By now, I am sure you're getting tired of my string of 5 star reviews for the Firehouse Deli in Gaithersburg. But I don't care because this little sandwich shop deserves all the praise I can heap on it. I had a tuna salad sandwich that was perfection! Heaping with luscious tuna, crispy lettuce and a sharp slice of cheddar. Heavenly! But, as good as that tuna sandwich was - as always - it is the professional, perfectionist, friendly and hard working people who run this place that actually keep me coming back. They are good at what they do, nothing more, nothing less. And they do it all with a smile! I will be back, of course, to the Firehouse Deli because it's at the top of its game. Monday 3/24/25 I made an order over the phone for the steak & cheese ("works) $10.98, seasoned fries $3.50, fajita melt (grilled chicken) $9.89, and the Italian sub $9.89. The service was good both in person and over the phone. The lady taking my order was helpful and made sure I was all good when picking up the food. - The steak & cheese was alright and was even better with some BBQ sauce. I think the sub could've greatly benefitted from having a house sauce paired with it to make up for the meat's lack of flavorful juices that you would come to expect from a typical Philly. - The seasoned fries were solid, they get the job done. - The fajita melt was solid and the chipotle sauce on it highly elevated the experience. I'm going to need more of that Chipotle sauce, please. - Now I'm more of a hot sub guy over a cold sub guy so I'm testing the waters with the Italian sub. Luckily, the Italian sub is a solid option. It's made very well and the bread is fluffy. Overall, I'd best describe this spot as simple, basic food that's executed very well. This place is an underrated gem! It's a little hole In the wall that'll make you feel like you're eating at a gas station but it somehow still feels cozy! They have a HUGE vegan menu and I've been looking for a little mom and pop sandwich shop since I moved to this area, because I had an AMAZING sandwich shop where I'm from. I'm absolutely delighted and angry I didn't try this place sooner. It was $34 to feed three people so the prices are also reasonable. Your order is taken old fashioned style and it may take a second to get your order if they're busy but I'm sure if you order ahead the wait isn't so long, since we ordered at the restaurant. Arrived not very hungry and based on Yelp reviews, chose the Steak and Work and was very impressed with the flavor, quality of the meat, and very soft roll. The shop looks to be truly mom-n-pop and adds to its charm. Also, really appreciate a very un-intrusive tipping box that actually shields the cashier-mom from seeing if and how much anyone tipped - very considerate. I can't believe I never dropped a review. My go to here is the 9 "vegan Italian ( no cheese). The owner is always pleasant and the sub is always delicious. The space inside is limited so it's best to order to go. They offer vegan cupcakes for those plant based people with a sweet tooth and have a variety of beverages to choose from ( get a fresh smoothie while you're at it). Service is smooth and wait time is reasonable. There are plenty of sandwich options for vegans and no vegans will do just fine here. I was in Germantown for an appointment and found this cute deli here on Yelp! I had to visit and see what all the buzz was about! The deli is in an office building right next to a Citibank banking office. There are a few designated parking spaces to run in and grab some yummy food. It was mid-morning on a Tuesday, so it wasn't too busy. I was greeted immediately upon entering the deli and placed my order. The Lady was very friendly and patient while I ordered breakfast (bacon, egg, and cheese on an English muffin) and lunch (yummy tuna sandwich on a croissant) for later. Staying at a nearby hotel, we needed a quick and easy spot for lunch before heading down into DC. I spotted this unassuming place in an unassuming building which had really terrific reviews...so what the heck, let's go for it! Sooooo glad we did! My wife ordered an avocado cobb salad with ranch dressing which she raved about; it hit all the right notes! I ordered one of my deli go-to's, the club sandwich on toasted wheat which I upgraded to a combo including a fountain drink and fries. You could also choose the main meat, I went with turkey. This club sammy was perfect...toasty crisp bread, just the right amount of mayo and fresh meats and veggies. I could not eat it fast enough! And those fries...oh, those fries. Honestly, one of my favorites delis in the area. I got to know the owners there and they are extremely nice. The wraps are amazing. I like their turkey ranch and italian sub. Everything is just fresh. The woman told me that the catering business is slow because the office jobs are starting to become More remote and people who work at the office isnt ordering catering as much. I have passed by this place many times and now regret it. The first point is they get is that they are a local establishment. I always love going local. So I needed food as I had neglected attaining sustenance at an appropriate time and luckily FD was there. Remember this place is quick, easy convenient food that would primarily cater to a lunch rush. If you want to be a foodie snob then GTFO. So with that in mind I had a delicious gyro sandwhich and was made quickly by a lovely polite lady behind the counter. This is a great authentic deli. Big menu, fresh ingredients, fast service, friendly and fair prices. There are so many crap "beer, wine, delis" around us that it's nice to find a place you can trust to make you a solid sandwich. The sandwich sizes are fair, what you'd make at home. It isn't going to be one of those huge sandwiches that you have trouble finishing, but they also don't charge $10 for a sandwich. If you're still hungry get a second serving or a bowl of homemade soup. It's a great place that does not have a front that would draw you in. I've driven past this place for years and I'm glad I finally stopped. I'll be a regular now for sure. There were a handful of small tables inside, a lunch counter to eat at, and three large tables outside. I felt like a tuna melt today so they grilled one up for me and it was perfect. Very good tuna fish that wasn't heavy on the mayo or celery taste. Perfect. I tried the MD crab soup which was also good. The reviews made me hope for more, a lot more. The food here is not my cup of tea, and in fact, I wish I had ordered more to comment on more, because, I do not wish to ever return. They have vegan food like meatballs, fake chicken, burgers (3 types of patties, one is Boca) and steak, all of which I imagine is from a local grocery store's frozen food section. In a nutshell, this place charges me for food that I could make on my own without being awake or knowing what I am cooking or even doing. It's fine for the home cook to make sandwiches like this and drag it to your weekday lunch, but to charge for it, though not a high price, well, it doesn't make me very happy. Let me state that the vegan food isn't terrible, though my sandwich was toasted so the bread was black in certain parts.... but it tastes like they just wanted to make some vegan options but didn't realize that vegan frozen meat substitutes tastes horrible just heated in the microwave with generic sauce/garnish/ condiments on top and placed on a plate for you. The salad choices are not vegan, but you could conceivably ask them to build you one with iceberg lettuce and the vegetables they have (avocado, mushroom, onion, tomato, bell peppers), but they will probably charge you about $8-9 for it because several of those ingredients seem to be "premium" $0.50 additional charge for their presence in your food. They have fried items like french and sweet potato fries, but, given the small scale of this operation, I would bet that they fry it with the other food items, so the flavors probably carry over to negatively impact the fries. So, if you need a vegan sandwich because you're here and are not allowed to go anywhere else, ok, you'll survive, but you will probably need something healthful and tasty every meal for the next week to make up for the insult to your palate and health here. If you are happy with vegan junk food that you can make on your own but are too lazy to do so, then, you will be very happy here. However, for the non-vegans, this place was very popular for its size and location. People just keep coming in for the sandwiches on white bread with iceberg lettuce and cheese/ mayo/ meat, etc. So, maybe it's great for non-vegan eating, but......... I can't comment on that. read more
