At first it kinda smelled funny when I walked in so I didn't want to eat there. They were friendly and helpful from start to finish. We had never been there so we probably did look a little lost but they were quick to explain how everything worked. We decided to give it a try. I got the Turkey Bacon Ranch. I'd say it's a little expensive, but worth it. I've been back once since, and will be returning to try new things. They boil/steam all of their lunchmeat which I think is awesome because it gets rid of all possible bacteria on the meat. I am excited that there's something new in Tucson to try, and the second time I returned it was VERY busy which was a good sign. I liked the sweet tea too! Their subs are awesome! You can get hot or cold and there are many options for meat, including brisket and meatballs. Better go hungry, their subs are pretty good sized. They have one of those fancy new computerized Coca Cola machines. They have a custom drink too--cherry limeaid, very yummy. I have to admit, it was awhile before I tried Firehouse subs. I thought it was just another sub shop. Not so! The manage to come up with a VERY tasty combination of ingredients. I am now hooked on the hook and ladder. Bread is very fresh and tasty. Meat portion just right. Of course, you must get it fully involved. Only down side is their drinks. Nasty tasting. We come to this firehouse regularly. Today we called in our order. Which you can pick up at the window. They missed a med dub from our order. The supervisor named Regina (which we never asked to talk to). Came to the window, apologized and then proceeded to give us the sand which at no cost. She then said "this is our fault" and gave us a card for a free combo. This is by far the best customer we have ever had. Not only are the subs amazing. Let me just say that the food is great. But service, is lacking. Went there at around 730 and didn't leave until after 8 for a takeout order. The place was empty. This is the slowest service I have ever had at any Firehouse Sub in the US. I waited 35 minutes on Tuesday evening with only 3 people in front of me. I ended up cancel my sandwich, after 35 minutes they hadn't started on mine alone with several other people asking about their sandwiches. When asked for my money back, was confronted with rude service. They guys were all to busy in the back room doing who know what. I drove to the site at 475 W Wetmore Rd #135, Tucson, AZ 85705. Walked into establishment right before lunch, not a single person inside yet it still took them 10 mins to fix my sandwich. We were first time patrons and instantly fell in love with the place. We had our 3 young children with us. We told the young lady at the register that this was our first time and she had no priblem explaining exactly what we ordered!! Best subs I have ever had. The ONLY place my kids will eat a turkey sub from and the Hook and Ladder and the Turkey, Bacon and Peppercorn Ranch are by far my personal favorite! This place is very clean and the BBQ cheddar brisket sub is quite tasty. The big problem we had was that it took forever to get our food, and my husband's sub was wrong. When he pointed it out to the staff member, he was given an attitude and told that was what he ordered. He then spoke with the manager to explain it was wrong, and then she told him they would fix it but told him next time he needed to be more specific. She was quite argumentative and rude so I can see how the staff would follow suit. Place is overpriced and service was lousy. Very disappointing. read more

Best sub Ive had in my life hands down. Wife and I tried this place after my father in law and a few coworkers suggest we try it. I had such a hard time picking what I wanted, I finally settled on the sub they claim put them on the map. The Hook and Ladder, quality of the meat was great and so full of flavor. It was my first time experiencing Firehouse Subs, and I will never go back. To begin with, they had three employees and none of them greeted us. It would be excusable if it was busy, however we were one of three couples in the place. I had never been and spent a good amount of time scanning the menu, in that time I wasn't asked if I had any questions about the menu or shown how it generally works. My girlfriend wondered aloud about the sizing, and all three employees ignored us until I explicitly asked. Our food didn't take much time, though I would have waited longer for a meal with more care. Our sandwiches were haphazardly thrown in the bag. I had the club, which looked good, but all I could taste was mayo and sweetness. The honey ham overpowered the entire sandwich. The bacon was wet and limp. It seemed microwaved. My girlfriend's New York Steamer was a mushy disaster. It tasted like a microwaved gas station sandwich. We are pretty easy going in regards to food and typically give restaurants more than one try but this experience was awful all around. read more

I pass by this sub franchise daily on my way to work and school. I have never tried it until yesterday. I must say I was impressed with the food. I had a steak-and-cheese sub (hold the mustard) and it was a decent take on a Philly cheese-steak. The atmosphere of the restaurant is a little less than inviting, has the total franchise feel to it, but the deliciousness of the food makes it easy to see past the gaudy decor. Hubs likes firehouse more than I do. To me, they're a step above a Subway or Quiznos-style sandwich place, but it's not like they're anything crazy special. They are very family friendly (and even give out little plastic firemen hats for kids) which earns them an extra tip of the hat because I've got twin 3-year-olds and I never have a problem eating here (some restaurants are just out of the question when you're wrangling twin 3-year-olds). But the kids love Firehouse and the parents like it, too. Plus, they have a drive-through lane so you can call in your order ahead of time and drive through to pick it up. I literally just changed my rating from 3-star to 4-star for that feature, alone (again, a very nice feature for a family with young kids that can be challenging to get in & out of the car). So maybe not the best/most gourmet sandwich of your life. But it's a very decent sandwich at a good price and they are great at accommodating families. 4 stars from me! : ) read more

Mmmm my new favorite sandwich joint. Goodbye subway will never be back. They use better quality of meats and breads. Your meal also comes with a side of chips; drink and a pickle; and they have a huge hot sauce bar. I tried the club and it was delicious. So we stopped here for a quick bite....let me just say, taking 30 minutes to make a sandwich...and asking repeatedly during those 30 minutes what was taking so long...is unacceptable. This type of restaurant is known as a "Quick service restaurant", not fast food, however 30 minutes is just not ok when people are on a lunch break. The food is decent but not worth waiting that long. We called the owner...haven't heard back. Not a shock. The kids behind the counter (and I mean kids, no one over 25) were overwhelmed and it's not their fault they were mismanaged.
