I'm still unsure if I like this place. I want to be impressed with a good sub, but overall-- I'm not. Last time they messed up my order. This time, they just didn't ask anything. They just lack pure service. No question of what sauce. No question on white or wheat. How about the size. Nope. Nada. Not even offers for free add ons (that I saw after I ordered on a cardboard menu. Not even a drink offer. I'm like... huh? So just letting you know: (1) check your sandwich before heading out the door to home & (2) Ask for extras -- they are on a cardboard sign on top of the counter-- & (3) don't forget thee drink! Oh... if you take it to go, ask for any wet sauces like Italian in a plastic cup to go so your bread doesn't get S-o-g-g-eeeeeee.

I stopped in and asked the lady behind the counter if they had Krakow. She said yes and pointed to a sausage in the case. I said no, that was not it as it was much smaller around than what I grew up eating, which (in the midwest) is around 6" across. The lady said they've been making Krakow for 40 years, and "that's the way people like it here", and that's that. I asked her if i could show her a picture of what I was talking about. She said it wouldn't do any good (to show a picture). She pretty much ignored me and went on to other tasks. I asked for a taste and she sliced off a piece. It's about 80% taste-wise of what I grew up eating, not nearly garlicky enough but close enough to buy a pound. As she was slicing it, she said "he" makes it once a year right after Thanksgiving and when it's gone, it's gone. So I asked for 2# and said I was going to freeze some. She said it would dry out when frozen so I only got 1#. Perhaps she was really busy, but she didn't seem to have time for me. She was pleasant enough with my requests but not very friendly. Not sure I'll go back.

Noon, on our way out of town moving her home, I made it our final stop. Should've come here years earlier. I had no idea of the longevity of The Sausage Deli until entering this place. I read the framed articles on the wall and learned how beloved they are. They mainly have sandwiches and are made to order, old school style. The sides are prepackaged in the deli case at the counter. I had the Italian Grinder, my wife had the Salami Sub and my daughter had a make your own sandwich. I had the sides of macaroni salad and potato salad. These sides were bland but maybe that's to compliment the flavorful sandwiches? I loved my Italian grinder and all the items inside it. The prices are fairly reasonable here and the service was great. You order at the counter and they call out your number when it's ready. Thinking back on my experience here, I don't remember seeing sausages anywhere....Hmmmm......Wonder why?

I went during a lunch break and the food both myself and my coworkers got all ended up being incredible. There is seating in the back of the store but a massive selection of all kinds of Italian goods, both in freezers and in a deli-style section. The menu has all kinds of classic favorites and I tried a sandwich that had fresh burrata, which was the exact thing I was craving. The prices are decent for the size of the portions and I also ended up snagging a bag of Baci candies on my way out! This is a great lunch spot with something on the menu for everyone, including a whole array of deserts like cannolis.

The feast of the seven fishes is our yearly tradition during the holidays, and when it rolls around, Angie (I'm not making that up, that is her real name--I told you she was Italian) will grab stuff from Roma by the armful. I am of the opinion that the prepared foods from here can range from the, "Mama Mia!" (really really tasty) to the, "Eh, Cosi cosi" (you know, it passes) range. I'm a people-person and love to observe the patrons. Many of the customers appear to be of Italian descent and, like my bettah half seem to really-enjoy the traditional and authentic staples of, Il Bel Paese (The beautiful country). Food from many different regions of Italy are available. The decor is kinda fun. In my mind, when I think of what an Italian trattoria should look like, this place comes to mind... it's got the classic red and white checkered table clothes, maps and landscapes of Italy adorning the walls, and an energy of a place that is well cared for. A religious icon or two will also dot the interior landscape. The aroma of slowly simmering tomato gravy, cut garlic, roasted meats, chopped onions, and olive oil fills the air. It's an experience. Sometimes life imitates art, and hand to gawd, on my mutha's life... the last times I went, der was deeze tree guys sitt'n in dah corner. I swears, dey cou'da been cast members from the Sopranos. Ayhhyyee! Was'amatta, youse? The staff is generally warm and enthusiastic about their offerings. They generally have been super helpful, and if it's not too busy, are more than happy to make suggestions for new items or how best to prepare the items we have purchased. When we have visited, 90% of the time, the place was crack'n (meaning: super busy and full of life!). Sometimes, as we drive away and I take a peek at the receipt, I will exclaim, "Davvero! È così caro!" Loosely translated that means, "Really! That's so expensive!" My wife, who only knows a few words of Italian, has no idea that I was pooping my pantaloni over the cost... but, bless her heart, she seems to think the food here is worth every penny. Generally, I agree. So next time you go, remember to leave the gun, but take the cannoli. Mangiare!

It's been several years since we have eaten at this location. A craving for a large loaded potato…read moreand a Yankee Sandwich found us returning to what was a great option. The menu for the most part appeared to be pretty much unchanged. I ordered the loaded Mexican Potato, the hot corn beef & pastrami yankee sandwich and a half corn beef sandwich for our son. The price for one and a half sandwiches and a baked potato with three small drinks was $57. Seems a little steep even in today's economy. I scanned the salad bar as we went to get our drinks and it was displaced and a little messy. Dressing we spilled onto topping and the salad looked a little old. We sat down and or food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Which was not a good thing. When the food came I asked the server if he could bring a side of mustard which I ordered with our food but didn't get. As we waited for the mustard my wife cut into the potato and found that it was barely warm. The cheese not even partially melted. We didn't want to ask for it to be reheated because the other toppings would have been heated like the lettuce and tomatoes and we were on a time constraint. After sitting and looking for the server I decided to go up to the counter and asked for it myself. After returning I took my first bit and realized my sandwich was ice cold. Cheese was unmelted on both my sandwich and my sons. My wife said the potato was okay and would have been better if they had cooked it the way they use to. Remember it coming out steaming hot. We finished our meal and departed being extremely disappointed. And no, the server never returned with my mustard. I would say that based on our visit Jason's deli is no longer the place we knew a few years ago. For being not busy. There's no excuse for a cold "hot sandwich" and a lukewarm loaded baked potato. There are far better options for far better value.
