Poor customer service. The service promised was not given and I would look elsewhere before ever going here again.

From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by their knowledgeable and friendly staff. They provided straightforward, no-nonsense information about costs, which made the selection process much easier. When it came time for installation, I was thrilled to see that we got exactly what we wanted at the best price available. Dave and his crew were not only courteous but also incredibly helpful in guiding us to choose the perfect stone and mantel that fit our budget. Their expertise made all the difference in ensuring we made the right choices. The installation itself was impressively efficient, taking just 8 hours to complete the fireplace setup. I appreciated their attention to detail and professionalism throughout the process. The stonework is scheduled to follow in the next couple of weeks, and I am eager to see the final result. Overall, I highly recommend Jim's Country Fireplace for anyone looking to enhance their home with a beautiful fireplace!

Unfortunately, after months of unanswered concerns and failed attempts to resolve serious issues, it is clear they have no intention of doing so. When my husband and I built our dream home, we envisioned a beautiful wood-burning fireplace that would help heat both levels of the house. Our builder recommended United Brick & Fire (UBAF) for the purchase and installation. While we weren't impressed with their limited selection, Nate recommended their largest and most expensive wood-burning unit based on its heating capabilities. During planning discussions, we specifically explained that we wanted to distribute the heat throughout the home, particularly to the basement. Nate told us the fireplace could be tied into the HVAC system to distribute heat throughout the house. This was a major selling point for us, as we hoped to reduce heating costs by relying on wood heat. The problems started before we even used the fireplace. The gas fireplace UBAF installed in our basement arrived with a dirty interior. When a technician came to inspect it, he blamed us and suggested it was caused by a TV mounted above it, even though it had been dirty since move-in day. He also repeatedly directed questions to my husband, implying I wasn't capable of discussing issues with my own home. When we finally tested the wood-burning fireplace, it wouldn't operate properly. Fires went out when the doors were closed, and smoke filled the living room when they were open. After researching the issue, we discovered the fresh air intake had been installed with a 4-inch pipe instead of the required 6-inch pipe. UBAF initially insisted we were using the fireplace incorrectly, but after inspecting it, they confirmed the installation error. Correcting it required cutting into the drywall in our newly finished master bedroom, creating a significant mess and additional inconvenience. Once that issue was fixed, we discovered an even bigger problem. The promised HVAC connection for distributing heat throughout the home didn't exist. After months of trying to figure out how to make it work, we learned from our HVAC contractor that they had been specifically instructed not to connect the fireplace to the HVAC system because it would be unsafe. We were never told this. Even worse, we later learned that connecting a fireplace like this to an HVAC system is not permitted in Wisconsin and should never have been suggested in the first place. The manufacturer also informed us that this fireplace is intended for rooms of approximately 1,000 square feet or larger. Our main living area is only about 500 square feet. UBAF had our blueprints, measurements, and full knowledge of the space, yet still recommended this unit. As a result, the fireplace makes our living room unbearably hot, often exceeding 95 degrees, while the basement remains cold. We've had to modify our HVAC system and install an additional thermostat just to maintain comfortable temperatures in our children's bedrooms. Ultimately, the fireplace we spent more than $20,000 on is effectively unusable and has become nothing more than an expensive decoration. We trusted UBAF's expertise to recommend and properly install a fireplace suitable for our home. Instead, we experienced installation mistakes, misleading information, and a complete lack of accountability. After nearly a year of trying to work with them, they have largely stopped responding.

The tech arrived early and discussed a couple things with me prior to starting. The cleaning took approximately 45 minutes. After he was done, he went through a list of things he'd found and suggestions. Basically the inspection came down to "don't use this thing again". Unfortunately for us, the pipe coming from the stove was not installed correctly and was too thin, the backing material on the wall to protect against heat wasn't fire proof. The hearth area was too short and the distance of the stove to the walls was too close. He also inspected the chimney which runs through an upstairs bedroom and found that the flashing that surrounded the pipe coming through the floor was not fire proof and the pipe itself, while sufficiently insulated, needed to be enclosed per code (something not mentioned by our home inspector). Basically the entire set up is a fire hazard. We won't be using our wood stove again and luckily know now that the entire thing is a fire waiting to happen. The tech didn't offer to correct these things or suggest additional work he could do. He did the cleaning, gave a professional opinion (even though it was all bad for us) and his rate was reasonable. I'd definitely recommend Zim's and suggest an inspection of any fireplace or wood stove before using.

When they came out, they got my wife (I work all day, so my wife had to deal with these people). Upon doing their inspection, they told my wife the following which was texted to me by her (see photo 1). We went ahead and hired this company to do the work and make those replacements (see photo 2 on how it looked before the work was done. What they said was going to be a week took almost three weeks and several phone calls with an update on what's going on. They came and did the work and we paid them. I'm going to assume they weren't going to think we were going to look at their work (please see photos 3 and 4 which is what we paid roughly 1800 dollars for). Needless to say I wasn't happy, and neither was my wife. She reached out to them and communicated what I thought was going on with their workmanship (please see photo number 5 for their reply). For them to actually argue that the collar they put on wasn't almost completely if not totally mangled and bent is absurd. Their reply was beyond mind boggling. We decided to have them come out and replace the mangled and bent collar (see photo 6 for the replaced collar). Also see photo 7 of the mess on my lawn they didn't clean up. The fact that they replaced the shoddy workmanship did help and ultimately prevent a complaint with the BBB and/or a potential lawsuit, but that is the last business I will do with these clowns. I will be giving my money and repeat business to a different chimney/fireplace company. Please take this review into consideration if you choose to go with this business.

They admitted that they did not have enough experience to diagnose the issue, and needed to have their boss come out to take a look and would charge us, not only for their time and not being able to diagnose the problem, but an additional cost to have the boss come out for a look and diagnosis. We chose to end things there and go with another company. However, even after speaking with the boss and him admitted no services were provided by not being able to even diagnose the problem, we were still charged over $250 for nothing. We are at square one and are going with another company who has guaranteed a diagnosis or there will be no charge. The techs who came out were extremely nice and hard working. I do not fault them for what has happened. I 100% fault the owner and the terrible business practices they have. If someone more experienced had to come after the first techs, but did not charge an additional fee for their own inexperience, I would have gladly paid. Save yourself a lot of time & money - I would highly suggest going elsewhere. PLEASE read other one star reviews because they are EXACTLY what we experienced.
