I was excited to dine in a spot that used to be the great Music Millennium. At first impression, the ambiance was inviting on a beautiful end-of-summer morning, with soft warm music humming from the speakers. The service was quite slow, but I was hoping the the food would be redeeming. Our order (three people, who happened to order the same eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast meal, which should make for a very simple table for the server) didn't come out right even after three failed attempts to and from the kitchen. I hate to write such a bad review; perhaps it was just a bad day. This dining experience left much to be desired nonetheless. If you're walking by this establishment, I'd suggest you keep walking. Beautiful restaurant in a lovely part of Portland. Weather was gorgeous so we opted to sit outside and it was quite a treat. Ordered the bruschetta and the grilled olives which were divine. First of all, what a great looking restaurant. Love the lighting- the perfect mix of natural and dim overhead lighting. However, my friend and I opted to eat outside since it was a lovely 75 degrees out. They were kind enough to bring out a high chair for my little one. We just ordered appetizers and no drinks, but we had our water refilled multiple times and we were checked on by our waitress as well. Overall, I was pleased with the service but I have to agree with other reviews- small portions for price. Fireside, please give me more than two small slices of bruschetta on which to spread my smoked salmon dip. It was sad to eat my salmon dip with a fork :-( read more

Not bad. Good food, bit there's a lot of good food in this area. It took forever to get our check. Decent wines by the glass though not a huge selection. I'm always on the lookout for a great brunch spot, so when Fireside started serving brunch, I had to check it out. The decor and ambiance inside is one of an upscale cabin. There are tasteful woodsy touches throughout and the two fireplaces/pits give the place a warm, cozy feel. The white cheddar frittata was good, although not great. I couldn't ttaste the cheese at all and the dish was a tad underseasoned. My wife ordered the croque madame and we were both impressed by its flavor, gooeyness, and just plain deliciousness factor. Highly recommended. Also ordered the campfire espresso, which was served in a Turkish coffee pot. That was a neat way to slug back a few cups of extremely potent java. The amazing thing was that for a group of 4, which we had in our party, there was no wait at all on an early Sunday afternoon. That's unheard of for any halfway decent Portland brunch spot. Outstanding! Service was terrific and prompt but not overbearing. The chili was the BEST I've ever had in my life! Sauvie Island trout was pure heaven - perfectly cooked and seasoned amazingly (great pop with the grilled shallots). Brussels sprouts were phenomenal - nice addition of the peanut sauce. I was pretty disappointed with the food here. A really cool environment with outdoor seating that's great in the summer. I expected more from their food. Our waiter seemed to forget about us outside. This place is casual fancy (upscale casual) and food is delicious. I think there is a rotating seasonal menu, so don't be set on ordering what you see on yelp. It has a very "Napa Valley" feel to it (I spent a lot of time in Napa and this reminded me of there). Service is wonderful! Should have left this review a while ago, but had an awesome meal at The Fireside back in May. My friend and I had the grilled olives- they were so good. I had the flatiron steak, and because I eat Keto, they let me substitute the carrots and confit potato with grilled asparagus. One of the best steaks and asparagus meals I have had, and believe me, that is a typical dining out option for me. The server was very attentive, and it was fun to people-watch there. read more

Grilled corn on the cob appetizer was fantastic with good sweet and spicy flavors, the cob is cut into 3 pieces so makes great sharing app. The warm lettuce salad was tasty and the S"mores were rich and sweet. My main was seared albacore which was luke warm and a bit tough. Wife had hanger steak which was ok but not melt in your mouth good.. We will go back and explore the menu a bit more. Exquisite. Came in on a beautiful Saturday for lunch. The place is open and fresh. Staff is tentative and friendly. Ambiance is absolutely relaxing and easy going. I got a wedge salad that ended up being crazy good (turns out that pickled green strawberries are really good! How creative!). Music... Sucks but it's the ONLY thing I would change. Went there for lunch with a client. Got the lunch fish special that was "at market price" Thinking it would be reasonable Meaning around $18. They charged me $24 for a tiny portion of a meal that tasted bland and interesting and downright bad. I like to go to restaurants and I have not been so underwhelmed in and impressed in a very long time. Everyone else's entrées looked very small as well except for the French dip sandwich. I would never go there again And was starving after the meal if it's going to cost $24 it should at least taste good. The one star is for a nice ambience. read more

My mother and I have a very hard time choosing a place to eat together. This place has great quality food with a lovely presentation and good booze! They also have an amazing happy hour. We live in the neighborhood so the Fireside was a welcome addition with its combination of a fine dining menu at a reasonable price. But the real kicker is the execution of the menu. It is spectacular. Whether you order the bistro burger at lunch or the steak offerings at dinner, you'll find it delivered just as you ordered. The farro salad (be sure to order the duck egg and trout additions) is a complete meal. The mussels are a succulent dish and come in a large portion under the small plates part of the menu. Recent specials included a perfectly done half-chicken. The sturgeon melted in my mouth. A well-priced wine list includes top-of-the-line wines by the glass as well as appealing bottles. My significant other has been captured by the gin and house-made tonic and it's the tonic that makes the drink. It's a perfect summer setting with open windows and seating on the sidewalk. In the winter, the two fireplaces warm the entire restaurant. And, as an extra bonus, the bartenders and other wait staff are knowledgeable about the menu, wines and bar offerings and make it clear that any menu item can be modified to meet dietary restrictions. (My allergies and dislikes would offend most foodies, but peppers, cucumbers and olives disappear from dishes when I make the request. read more
