Very comfortable and good food. Their vegan soup was absolutely delicious, rich, and a must try. The burger was pretty average, but the description sounded very gourmet. Their desserts were excellent, decadent, and the star of the show.

Oh my word. Why have we never been here before?? We have looked in the window, gawked at the fantastic treats that call to me like the Batman symbol... but this day we finally stopped. Everything on the menu looked amazing and I saw many menu items come out prepared and I knew I HAD to come back. Today, we got the fried chicken - hot honey - on cornbread. This was nicely proportioned and tasted amazing! That breading is to die for. Enough said. Now the real gem was this peanut butter torte - I cried a little inside!

Great experience overall, but the desserts we had were not my favorite (so maybe the reason for 4 stars is my own fault). Listed in order from favorite to least: 1. Carrot cake - 10/10 great flavor, great cream cheese frosting 2. Peanut butter mousse torte - 9/10 I love pb so it's easy to love 3. Triple chocolate cake - 5/10 not a huge chocolate cake person but I enjoy a good slice and this one lacked flavor somehow 4. Boccone dolce - 4/10 the bananas inside through me off, didn't love the flavors, texture was not bad though Will be back to try more and then maybe my rating will change

If you want a classic white table cloth, gourmet dinner with some of the most romantic desserts, this is definitely the spot! Make a reservation. Or just get some desserts to go from the dessert counter!! I came on Valentine's Day for a phenomenal meal. It will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth!

    Four shrimp around cocktail sauce

FOUR shrimp does not a party make! $16 shrimp cocktail was so sad looking with only 4 shrimp that you could finish off in two bites. At least tell us it's 4 shrimp and try to serve on a bigger plate to make the thing seem more enticing.

Such a romantic restaurant- especially on a rainy day when they have the fireplace on. Great food and service and of course, desserts. The key lime cheesecake is so delicious!!

I always love the ambience at 23rd location. Staff is incredibly kind and helpful. The menu on Valentine's Day was a bit limited. Not sure if that's normal. We got the special pasta of the day, turmeric pasta with scallops. It was a light taste which was pretty tasty. The raspberry Gateau is very decadent. I should have asked for more raspberry sauce. My friend got the cheesecake which usually I'm not a fan of cheesecake, however it was not as sweet as others and lighter, I loved it and would order the cheesecake next time. Kids enjoyed their hamburgers.

This place always nails dessert, but I finally tried their breakfast/brunch, and wow, it was seriously good! The French toast? Absolutely divine - melted in my mouth and perfectly sweet without being overpowering. My new favorite for sure! The sweet potato hash was pretty good, with sweet potatoes, sausage, cinnamon, and a guacamole sauce, all topped with two sunny-side-up eggs. It leaned a bit too sweet for my taste; I think it could've used a little kick or some crunch to balance it out. But seriously, dessert here is always the highlight, and the service is consistently fantastic - super friendly every time. The ambiance is so chill, like you're just hanging out with friends over breakfast. Can't wait to come back and check out their dinner menu!

My napkin and my fork were dirty when I sat down at the table which I don't mind but it was a bad start to this experience. They tried to seat us in the back uglier section of the restaurant even though there were so many empty tables already set up in the main white section and they had us wait for no reason. We ordered the food and the eggs benedict was mid like I could make it better and the carbonara was too salty I couldn't eat more than two bites. Overall I felt that they were rude and the food was terrible so I will not be returning.

This restaurant is a staple in Portland. They have two locations, this one in NW and another in SE. Both have amazing food and desserts, with quality ingredients. I've never had a subpar meal or dessert here. Parking can be tricky as it's mostly street parking and this area in NW is busy. There is a paid parking lot behind the restaurant, but it fills up fast, and can be hard to navigate with a full-size vehicle. I took a friend here to celebrate her birthday. I made reservations online through Open Table. We came on a Sunday around noon. We were seated as soon as we arrived. We were lucky enough to get a window table. It was perfect! The entrance can get a little congested because the host podium is located right inside the door. The decor inside has a nice and cozy vibe. Sunday mornings and afternoons they offer their brunch menu. There's a nice variety of breakfast and lunch options available. We each ordered the burger and fries. The burgers were cooked perfectly. The fries were nice and crispy on the outside, and not greasy at all. They only had ketchup for the fries, no ranch available. I just ordered a side of mayonnaise to mix with the ketchup. Our food came out timely and was the perfect temperature. For dessert, we ordered the raspberry gateau and lemon chiffon cake. They were both so decadent and delicious! We took half of both home. They are a little pricey. I spent $85 for our lunch, including a 20% tip. Seems pricey for lunch, especially when we didn't order drinks, just water. Our server was attentive, friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our time here. I would highly recommend.

Staple place for desserts! We went for dinner, drinks, and dessert this time; some of us were smart to get salads because the dessert portions were hefty! I got the ragu and it was tasty! It is a solid portion so finishing it was a meal of its own. Beware if you want dessert in the same sitting. The cranberry shrub was also tasty and is kind of reminiscent of kombucha. The special pear ginger panna cotta was amazing but unfortunately couldn't get that far post ragu. The restaurant was bustling for a weekday night. The street parking was similarly busy! Clean restrooms and nice service.

Some places are more than restaurants -- they are Portland institutions woven into the very fabric of the city, and Papa Haydn is exactly that. Since 1978, this beloved NW 23rd treasure has been spoiling Portlanders with the kind of desserts that make you close your eyes on the first bite. My sweetheart surprised me with a warm Sunday evening date on their charming outdoor patio -- the kind of spontaneous, romantic gesture that becomes a treasured memory. Our server was warm, unhurried, and genuinely helpful in helping us choose between an impossible array of beautiful options. We settled on the Chocolate Raspberry Torte -- a rich chocolate crust filled with silky chocolate mousse, crowned with glistening fresh raspberries and a ribbon of raspberry sauce -- and the Chocolate Truffle Cake, a towering masterpiece of dark layers, ganache, and a cloud of whipped cream. Decadent and delightful don't begin to cover it. What makes Papa Haydn extraordinary is that behind every dessert is a real story -- a Berlin baker's family recipes, a sculptor sister who turned pastry into art, a dream that has now spanned generations and 700 tons of chocolate. That history lives in every bite. If you haven't been, go. If you have, go again. Portland is lucky to have them.

Came on a Wednesday night for live jazz at 7pm at Jo Bar, who were fantastic! We ordered off their Portland Dining Month menu, which was pretty good. The scallop dish and pate crustinis were good but the highlight was probably the passion dessert! I had high hopes for the cafe au chocolate but it was quite thick and heavy.

The interior is attractive and very modern, and there is a large covered and heated patio if you prefer to sit outside (we did). The service was a little bit slow, but not egregious and the server was very friendly. The menu is not extensive, but it has good variety and everything on it looked excellent. All of their ingredients seem high-quality, and they have a number of gluten-free and vegetarian offerings. I ended up getting the eggs benedict, which came with a little salad. The salad was fresh, not wilted, and came with a light vinaigrette. The eggs benedict was absolutely stellar-- perfectly poached eggs, creamy hollandaise, and grilled halloumi to give some well-received brine to the bite, all atop an english muffin. For the price point and the quality, the portions are good. My one wish was that I could have subbed my salad for some of their potatoes! My partner got the pork belly hash, and thought that the potatoes were cooked perfectly-- crispy and well-seasoned. He did notice that there were only a few pieces of pork in the dish, but we chalked this up to the ingredient quality. We ended up staying for Happy Hour, which was fun! We got the fries with garlic aioli (so good!) and I ordered their daily cocktail special, a margarita. They gave me a good, heavy, pour, which is always appreciated. Great brunch spot if you want to go somewhere a little chic.
