I hope the mechanic stayed warm--I happened to choose one of the coldest days in Austin for my service. When I arrived at 6 PM, right at closing, Mark still took the time to explain the issue and how it was fixed. Thank you for your excellent service! I'll be recommending you to everyone. And who among us has not felt they were taken advantage of when the bill arrives? Yup, unless you're mechanically inclined, it can be tough to know if the repairs are legitimate. After getting suspiciously high repair estimate from my friendly local dealer (whose name I won't mention to protect the guilty), I looked for a second opinion and found All Tune on Yelp. They were busy but were able to get me into the shop a week later. Well, it took all of 15 minutes to determine that I didn't need any of the recommended repairs. All Tune took the time to show me the parts in question and treated me respectfully. They also looked up my service schedule and let me know when I would really need to perform maintenance. Even more, they didn't charge me for their time. I'll be bringing my car back to All Tune when I need service. These guys are the real deal, the bomb. Thank you All Tune! Highly highly recommended.

The whole experience felt very interactive and customer-focused. I have three vehicles, and one belongs to my son, who is a brand-new driver. This would honestly be such a valuable experience for a new driver to better understand what is needed and why. I never felt pressured into extra services at all. Everything was explained clearly, and the team was transparent throughout the process. The service was timely, the atmosphere was great, and the pricing was comparable to other oil changes I've had. I also needed a coolant flush and was able to use a coupon, which was a nice bonus. Overall, I'm very happy with the service and will definitely be bringing my other vehicles here too. Shoutout to Miss Whitney, Tyreek, Trevor, and the rest of the team working today. Great communication and a great experience overall.

Although, there are tool marks on my oil cap now and I cannot take it off anymore. Take 5 is the last place to have touched it several times. Jetta - coolant flush and oil change. 2 weeks later, radiator is cracked and it's burning oil quickly. Maybe the radiator was ready to give up, but the timing was unfortunate. I looked back, and they also put the wrong oil (0w20) in the Jetta (requires 5w30 or 5w40). I don't know if it was German quality spec either. I have low confidence in the quality of service here. For JUST oil changes you might be fine, especially with a simple car, but they charge a lot of money for service. I'll probably go to the automotive center across the street or jiffy lube from now on.

Once I was moving, I only made it down the street before all power failed in my car and I had to coast to a stop. It is to my great luck and joy that I coasted to a stop in the parking lot of Oak Knoll Automotive. When I walked in, I was greeted by Bobby, who spoke to me like I was his friend and communicated clearly what he thought the issue might be, how long it would take and approximate cost. There were techs buzzing around the bays hard at work, so instead of making me wait forever, Bobby went out and took a look at my car himself and got it into the garage out of the 100+ heat. I ended up spending a couple hours in the waiting room (which was thoughtfully decorated and had plenty to read or watch) before Bobby told me they needed to keep the car overnight. This morning, I got a call from Bobby first thing where he told me the plan for the day and when I should expect to hear back from him. Like clockwork, he called me back to let me know my car was ready and gave me a price breakdown of the repair work done. All-in-all, this place was wildly helpful, communicated clearly about the work done, and priced fairly. Going into an auto shop as a woman by yourself can be intimidating, but this shop defies that expectation and rises to make for a terrific experience for all. I would recommend this place to my friends and family any day!

My car had died, and based on my understanding, I believed the battery was the issue. I had purchased the battery from this shop about a year ago and was told it had a 3-year warranty, so I came in expecting to have the battery replaced under warranty. Instead, I was told there was nothing wrong with my battery. The situation then turned into an issue with my alternator. I was initially quoted $1,500 for a new alternator, then $1,200, and eventually told Randy's "homeboy" could do it for $500 cash. I told him I didn't have $500, and he asked, "What do you have?" He eventually agreed to $200 cash. When I came back for clarification, I was told I was getting a brand-new alternator. However, when I returned, the same alternator was still on my car. I was then told that the positive wire on the alternator had been fixed and the alternator had been cleaned, and that was what the $200 was for. I was given a $0 receipt for the warranty battery, but no itemized receipt explaining the $200 cash charge. I left extremely confused and feeling like I had been misled about what work was actually being done. I don't know a lot about cars, but customers deserve honesty, clear communication, and documentation of what they are paying for. I personally feel like I was taken advantage of. Be aware of Randy and make sure you get everything in writing before paying for additional work.

Buddha's Garage is the second one. Dave has the energy of a man who has looked directly into the screaming mechanical abyss of humanity and simply sighed, grabbed a wrench, and fixed it anyway. I swear half the vehicles in that shop arrive after being spiritually wounded somewhere else. Other mechanics will look at your engine like medieval doctors diagnosing ghosts. Dave looks at it once, tilts his head slightly like a jazz musician hearing a wrong note, and suddenly knows your alternator was installed backwards by somebody named Tyler in 2019. And here's the wild part: he's honest. Like deeply, suspiciously honest. The kind of honest that makes you uncomfortable because you forgot businesses could still operate without trying to sell you seventeen imaginary emergencies. Dave will straight up tell you cheaper alternatives, better options, things you can wait on, things you DON'T need. I almost wanted to ask him if he understood capitalism. The customer service feels less like a business and more like your truck wandered into a monastery where everyone took vows of kindness and diagnostic accuracy. Meanwhile other shops are out here playing roulette with socket sets: "Hmmm yes, perhaps your issue is... all of the parts." Then Buddha's Garage fixes it in an afternoon and somehow charges you like they still believe in human dignity. Also -- Dave knows an absolutely terrifying amount about vehicles. Not "guy who watches YouTube tutorials" knowledge. I mean ancient-library-hidden-under-the-desert knowledge. The kind where you start explaining the noise your car makes and he already knows the answer before you finish making the sound effect. At this point I'd trust Buddha's Garage with anything mechanical. My car. My lawn mower. A damaged submarine. If NASA called and said a shuttle was making a weird clicking noise, I'd probably hand them Dave's number. I'm going there no matter what. After a "check-up" at my car dealership, the dealership listed a number of "immediate concerns" that needed to be address and would have cost a pretty penny (basically, oil change, tire rotation, wheel alignment & balancing). Hesitant to just sign on, I took my car to Dave's to confirm that these concerns were indeed immediate and would indeed cost the amount that the dealership estimated. Gave them a call to give the list of "needed services" based on my car dealership, and they were great about fitting me in quickly. Also, am going on a hefty road trip soon, so they added a free trip check. After the trip check and basic inspection, they did identify that there was a slight alignment issue. The other things didn't need to be address, but I decided to just go for it because of the trip, low cost, and it'd honestly have to be done at some point anyway. What I really appreciate was the fact that they communicated these things with me, showed me numbers that caused the "issue", gave me a reasonable price and let me make the decision for myself. So that's kind of odd. It's obvious that the mechanics don't drive the car after they've repaired it because that light was shining in my face the whole way back home and I don't see how they could've missed it. They also tried to sell me a bunch of other repairs and serviced, which were probably not needed. (I'm on a very limited budget). I appreciated the info and simply turned down those other tasks which I could either do myself or postpone for another time. I think the lesson learned is if you have an old car and you're on a limited budget (and aren't we all) watch out for suggested repairs which are simply based on the estimated age of the item or a maintenance schedule, and not an actual malfunction. I've attached the email chain in four pictures. As you can see in there, I explicitly told the technician that the car was brought in for oil pressure problems, and the oil pressure light was coming on. Also, I should add that since I received the car back the engine is running smoothly, but not a single drop of oil has dripped off the engine so I'm pretty sure there's no oil leak. In any case, a small leak would not prevent me from driving the car however, the oil light being on all the time would prevent me from driving it, and I don't think the car should've been handed back to me in that condition.

Or even worse this could've been a manipulative way to get more money out of me and they did it on purpose. I have no way of proving the fact that I know it's the shop's fault and they are trying to make me pay $200 to fix it. If a nail had busted the tire, then it would've only deflated. If I would've hit a curb, then I would've known! My father died last year and passed this car down to me.
