    Oil pan and filter

May 2023: Oil Change on 2020 Subaru at Foxfield location. Let me start this off with the question you may be asking - why on earth would we not get our oil changed sooner?? It's because the sticker Firestone put on our windshield said we didn't need another oil change for 35K miles. For some reason we didn't think twice about it or even question it. We saw a number and until our car reached that number, we didn't think we needed an oil change. We also were unaware of the 3-4 month time frame on oil changes despite the mileage, but we do a fair amount of driving and the number on the sticker has NEVER failed us. We are not irresponsible people with our cars, we just didn't know about the 3 month marker and didn't think to question the mileage on the sticker for some reason. We trusted the shop because I've always taken my cars to Firestone and never had a problem. November 2023: Smelled a chemical-burn-like odor once in a while, took the car to Firestone in Englewood. They cleaned up a small amount of oil in the pan, left the car running for about 10 minutes, no leak. The next day, my husband and I used it to jump our other car that we've been working on (2016 Chevy Cruze) and within a few minutes there was a HUGE oil puddle under the Subaru. We turned the car off, called around hoping someone could take us in that day. Englewood location refused because they didn't do the oil change, Foxfield said we just had to get it to them ourselves and one other shop said not to drive it if the check engine light was on after checking the dipstick and seeing there was enough oil to drive it to a shop. The light wasn't on so we started it up to take it back to the Foxfield location and more oil immediately began WATER FALLING out, so we turned it off and checked the dipstick again. We had little to no oil in the car anymore. We called around again hoping someone could come take care of it quickly as we didn't want to start the car without any oil in it. The Foxfield location said we had to pay to get it to them. The other shop said they would get a tow and try to get Firestone to pay for it. Unfortunately, it had been 6 months and 7,000 miles since our last oil change, so it most likely wouldn't happen.

Will helped me every step of the way--he was knowledgeable, transparent, and took the time to explain my options so I felt comfortable with the decision. I ended up not going with the full engine swap, but the entire process was handled professionally and efficiently. The communication throughout everything was excellent, and I really appreciated how helpful and honest Will was. Overall, I'm very pleased with the service and the experience. I'll definitely be coming back to Christian Brothers Automotive for any future automotive needs. Highly recommend! -Shaffer

I brought my car in for a stalling issue. The initial diagnosis cost $775 to replace a battery…read morecable and add a ground screw, which felt very high. Afterward, I was told the car had multiple oil and coolant leaks and was quoted an additional $3,500 for repairs. On a car worth about $4,000, this didn't make financial sense. When I declined the extensive repairs, there was no discussion of smaller, interim solutions or things I could try myself; the only suggestion was financing the full amount. The immediate next step was being asked to retrieve my vehicle. The shop was extremely busy, and I left with the impression that they prioritize large, high-cost jobs. Disappointed with the experience and lack of flexible solutions, I will not be returning. Update to my previous review: It's been two weeks since I picked up my vehicle, and I have not observed any oil on my driveway. This seems inconsistent with what I was told about the severity of the oil leak issue during my visit. I have checked the oil level multiple times and it appears to remain at the same level. After posting my initial review, I received several phone calls from the shop owner requesting that I modify my review. I eventually asked that these calls stop. Service details: I paid $180 for initial diagnostics, during which I was told there was an 80% probability that the problem was my battery cables. I then paid $235.19 for new battery cables, but it did not resolve the issue. A subsequent diagnosis costing $359.98 identified a bad ground wire, which was then repaired by tapping in a new wire. Additional observations from my service experience: When I collected my vehicle, I noticed what appeared to be a black, grease-like substance on the exterior door handle that was not present when I dropped it off. I also discovered that the front emblem was no longer attached to my vehicle. When I inquired about this inside the shop, staff located the emblem and handed it to me and told me it fell off when they closed the hood. I check my fluids every month, this has never happened to me. There was no offer to repair the damage.

Overpriced, dishonest, late and shoddy work…read more We had the misfortune of having a car break down on a Saturday, transmission, and they were the only place open that was within distance. It took them a week longer to get the work done than we were originally told. Once they finally installed the transmission, we were told that it came with a faulty sensor, and that they would have to get the part from Honda. They then charged us for the faulty sensor that came with the transmission -- almost $300. The initial quote for a new transmission was $10,000 parts and labor. They said that they could get a certified, refurbished one and drop the price to closer to $8,000. We chose to go with the certified refurbished transmission (while we were waiting for the work to be done, 4 hours after we showed up -- and it was still the next day before they finished it -- the manager was talking to us and saying that a brand new transmission for the car would have been $16,000 -- even though 2 weeks before he had quoted us $10,000). The final bill, with the other things they added on, was $9,700 (which turns out to be significantly more than what we were told and more than other shops would charge). They also told us a list of things that needed to be dealt with that were problems with the car. I was curious simply because I heard three other customers being told that they had similar issues that needed to be dealt with. Driving the car the next day, there was a weird squeaking sound. We took it to another shop to see if they could diagnose the problem -- a number of the bolts holding the transmission were loose! They tightened them up and the sound disappeared. Not only was the work very late and overpriced, it was shoddy. We also asked this shop to check the other issues that Saul's Autotek had said were issues that needed to be addressed, and we were told that those "issues" were fine.
