Extremely unprofessional and unacceptable experience at the Firestone location in Hamden, Connecticut. The interaction I had with the store manager, Brent (full name not provided), was discourteous, escalatory, and far below the level of professionalism expected from a Firestone representative--especially a store manager. On the day of my appointment, 11/22/25, I called in the morning to advise the store that I would be picking up the tires only and would not be needing installation, as the tires were purchased through my place of employment. I was not told this would be an issue during my call but that I could come at anytime. However, when I arrived, I was told I needed to speak to the manager. After waiting, the manager, Brent, informed me that he did not know whether I was "allowed" to simply pick up the tires due to my organization's contract. This was the first time anyone mentioned such a concern. When I asked how this could be confirmed, or why I was not informed earlier when I called, his tone became noticeably escalated and dismissive. I expressed that I simply wanted a good customer experience, as I could see he was becoming increasingly frustrated in both tone and manner. When I asked if there was someone above him I could speak with, he stated there was not. When I asked if there was a corporate office, he simply told me I could "call them," offering no additional assistance or clarity. My husband was present and witnessed the entire exchange. After Brent continued to escalate the situation, my husband intervened and asked what would be done today, stating he was not going to "go back and forth." Brent then retrieved the tires and threw them outside the establishment, clearly upset and making no effort to de-escalate or maintain basic customer courtesy. As he loaded the tires into my truck, I asked for his full name. He replied only "Brent," refused to provide his last name, and ended the interaction with "Have a good day and holiday," despite his behavior being in stark contradiction to respectful customer service. If Brent represents the standard of leadership in this store, then Firestone is failing its customers. read more

They don't honor what they tell you as far as price. When I explained about a price adjustment promised me prior, the dude on phone was sarcastic and tone was smug. Don't appreciate the disgusting "customer service". Take a training course on the meaning of providing good enough service for customers to return. I will NEVER go back here. I had come in last month to have them fix a tire leak. I called to see if I needed an appointment and they said come on in, we'll try to squeeze you in. They repaired the leak even though I had not purchased the tires there. At that time, I had them check my brakes and they did need to be replaced. The quote was less than Toyota so I returned yesterday with an appointment for the brake repair/oil change/tire rotation and everything was handled professionally and politely! read more

I came here in July for emergency maintenance and Eric suggested some additional maintenance that I couldn't afford right then and wanted to double check it with my regular mechanic. Regular mechanic found the same issues, but Firestone offered a more competitive price, even without the holiday discounts. At least this Firestone is honest, so thank you Eric. On a Sunday afternoon at 4 PM, I showed up at the Firestone on Dixwell Avenue, where I'd just purchased 4 tires a few weeks earlier, and where I'd taken my car to for years. My tire had a leak and I had to drive my son back to college that evening. I explained my predicament to the guy at the counter, and he said he couldn't help because I had no appointment. Meantime, there were two free spots in the shop with no cars on any lifts, and a couple of guys who'd nothing to do. I explained yet again that since it was a Sunday evening and I had to drive my son back to college, I'd be grateful if he could help. Nothing! I could have had a kinder and more compassionate response from the furniture in the store. I pleaded and pleaded. And the man was so unmoved. The upshot: I took the car to Costco's tire center. It was past the time they accepted cars on Sunday (after 4 PM), but the guy put my car on a lift, and said that even though the tire was not from Costco, they'd fix it, given that I was in a jam! Within half an hour, I was on the road, having paid nothing for the favor that Costco didn't owe me. The moral of the story: I'll never set foot in Firestone for as long as I breathe, and I have, and will ever be, devoted to my local Costco. A little bit of compassion and understanding can make a world of difference. But Firestone has none of it to grant. read more

We have been loyal Firestone customers for over 20 years using different locations. This location has a terrible manager. My son dropped car off for oil change and witnessed manager screaming at another customer on the phone then was rude to our son. We wanted the charge put on our card so my husband and I attempted 3 times to talk to manager to give him our info and he yelled and cursed and hung phone up 2 times on us. Horrific experience. I hope the owner realizes the magnitude of his managements demise of a good referral. Never will we use this location again. Avoid at all costs unless you want to be abused verbally. They are very misleading and will proceed to add repairs that are on a diagnostic check that are not agreed upon to fix. Nick and others treat their customers like trash and are quick to dismiss anyone who simply asks too many questions. I did my oil change there. Even though I had an appointment, it took over 2 hrs for the oil change and a flat tire. On top of that I was surprised by the attitude of one of the front desk employees. He was aggressive very uncourteous and impatient. On top of that, once I told him that the other firestone is doing the same thing for significantly lower price, his response was "so go do your thing over there, this is how I do it here". So far so good- I had a tire that was losing air, it was a Firestone tire (this car was used, I had bought it with these tires in it), so I figured I'd try them- since it was their tire. I called ahead, and was told roughly $20 for the tire. 1:00 - Went in, its clean, and the beardy dude behind the counter was really very nice. 1:33 - discovered that there were some problems with the tire's lugnuts in to the lugnut-housing. They gave me a worst-case best case scenario with a quote. They also showed me that the tire had a Screw in it near the sidewall which they couldn't repair. Of course I thought they were trying to get me to buy a new tire in the back my mind, but I honestly think that these guys are being truthful with me. I don't think they want to take me for a ride. They seem like genuinely nice human beings, and basically let me go with no charge. They were nice, and professional throughout the whole event's drama. Got an oil change here with a coupon a couple of months ago. Didn't take too long, they were pretty friendly, everything seemed okay. Fast forward 3,000 (or so!) miles, and I brought my car in to get an oil change at the Firestone in New Haven, at which point they told me that someone tightened the oil pan too tight and destroyed the threading on the screws, so it cost me an extra 55 bucks to have someone drill out new threads. Maybe the New Haven Firestone was lying to extort me for money. Or maybe this Firestone did 55 bucks worth of damage to my car. Since I lack the requisite knowledge to know one way or the other, I'll just save wave my metaphorical angry fist in Hamden's general direction. read more

The $20 oil change deal is what made me start coming here for them about a year ago (I used to go to A1, but they obv charged way more). I have never been disappointed here!! The staff is so helpful and friendly, and definitely trustworthy! The appts you make are kept with no wait and it never takes longer than an hour if theyre really busy. (I think I only waited an hour once). They also just recently changed my windshield wipers at record speed and didnt charge me for labor. Supposedly these wipers are high quality, especially good for the snow. I would not have known the difference but they hooked it up as usual! Highly recommend these guys :-) read more

If I could give this location negative stars I would. Went in for a simple tire replacement this month and now am without a vehicle. The idiots put the wrong size tires on my AWD vehicle! Not noticing this damaging mistake I drive to work in Westeen MA from CT the following day and before I get to the state line I get a message on my dash saying 4WD OVERHEATED/TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE. Pull of the highway and shut my car off to let it sit. Upon starting it back up there was a horrendous smell of gear oil but it doesn't stop there. As I'm driving back, the front axels start to hesitate and momentarily lock up causing my vehicle to pull hard and jerk over to the next lane almost causing me to get into several accidents. I brought it back to Firestone the next day and they admitted fault and got the correct tires on my vehicle but it was too late. After further inspection from a reputable repair shop, it was determined that both my front and rear differential along with the 4WD transfer case were compromised and damaged from the overheating which was caused by the incorrect tire sizes. Since these parts are non serviceable they need to be replaced. When I called to discuss this with firestone they were less than helpful. They told me incorrect tire sizes wouldn't cause this. Are you kidding me!! There are numerous amounts of documentation regarding Jeeps and the need to have all 4 tires the same size. Firestone then proceeded to hang up in my face and refuse to pick up the phone when I called back. PLEASE, save yourself the nightmare headaches by going elsewhere for your tires. I will be filing a lawsuit against this branch if they continue to refuse to pay for the damage that they caused. read more

I took my work van there and explained to them the issues it had (among them the driver's side front tire wearing uneven and needing an alignment, vacuum leak in the HVAC system- even told them where to look) and for an oil change. Dropped it off, gave them my number. Never got a call, I had to call them. They recharged the a/c, said they couldn't find any leaks, and replaced all the tires even though most of them were fine. Didn't get a sticker for the oil change. I asked them to put it inside for the night as I have expensive tools inside, but they obviously didn't as it was in the parking lot the next morning before they opened. What they don't say, and then with a straight face tell you it doesn't include labor... WHAT?!? Fast , reasonably priced and pretty honest.....all you can ask for. There are always coupons which come in the mail as well to help save $. Beats the competitor across the street, Pep Boys, in every way....I probably wouln't get a major auto repair done there - as I have a trusted mechanic for the big jobs. But - if you need tires, brake job, etc - especially over the weekend, I wouldn't hesitate to go there. On a side note - bringing my car in for multiple small repairs, they realized that they forgot to give me the oil change which I asked/paid for. They called me at home and asked me to come back. I came in for a 4:00 oil change appointment at 4:05, after I had called I had called in to say I would be a little late. My keys weren't taken until 15 minutes later. I was told it would take 45 minutes. After an hour, I had gone to the desk and asked if my car was ready. They told me "oh let me go check." I knew they hadn't because they had not taken my car yet from the parking lot. I didn't get my car back until 535. While I was waiting, a woman had gone in to ask for them to check her tire pressure. They told her to park in a particular spot. She came in 20 minutes later saying "I've been waiting in that spot for the past 20 minutes." They said "oh you're there? OK we'll go check it now." There weren't too many people waiting in line, but the service was incredulously slow. read more

FIRESTONE - HAMDEN, CT - COMPLETE RIP OFF Complaint Description: I bought 4 Primewell Tires 7 days ago and after 5 days of driving on them, one went flat. Brought tire back to Firestone, they said that I must have hit a curb. I did not hit any curbs or potholes, there were no marks on the tire. When I changed the tire to put on my spare I had 3 people check it to make sure that I wasn't responsible for the reason the tire went flat. Firestone of Hamden, CT would not give me a new tire. After I checked with my boyfriend about what I should do, I called Firestone to tell them that I was taking my car elsewhere for a new tire. They said it was too late. They already put on a new tire. My breaks failed. Had my modified handicap van towed here because it was within 3 miles allowed by AAA. I had the most responsive, polite and helpful team. I was nicely greater and treated from the time I called to inquire if they can deal with a modified van through dropping the van off and up to the time that the car was ready to be picked up. Car was ready when promised. Staff made me feel comfortable with their level of repair expertise. So now that I have my car back, it drives well and my breaks are back to normal. I would never go back here. The "manager" tried to get me to have my brakes done. He said they were close to the "legal limit" and needed to be turned and new pads needed to be put on (I had come in for an oil change). I asked him what the "legal limit" for my car was and what the actual measurement his crew took... He said he didn't have that right in front of him. I said I did not think that he actually had a measurement or a document indicating this "legal limit." I asked to speak to his supervisor. He started back-pedaling and saying it was more of a strong suggestion than a requirement. I asked him to get me my car and let me know how much I owed for the oil change. I know a lot of shops try to sell these add-ons, but my car was far from needing a brake job. I went another year or two and never had anyone else suggest it needed a change. I expect this kind of treatment from pep-boys or Walmart auto, but I had hoped for more from Firestone :-( read more

So I wrote a review a week ago and it is not posted..I'm confused...I actually stated that I joined yelped for this reason! So I will make this one short and sweet..been going for many many years.... was told that I had air in the brake lines and got quoted a price by the gentkeman behind the counter. 15 minutes before I ess to pick it up the same genglemen cakes and told me they recommended I pay for a diagnostic. I agreed. One hour later I got told it was going to be 700.00 for rear capiler and rotors..I had already agreed to a oil change. The right side was frozen according to their mechanic and the left would need to be be done in less then a month. I asked for my keys..the mechanic told my I needed to have our towed.. I refused! I took it home and my husband called..they told him it was smoking when I arrived and it almost on fire!!!!!!!!!! Really????? So we called our regular mechanic who got back from vacation and he checked out out....no...rear brakes were great! There was air in the brake lines.... and he said the seals were worn in the FRONT!!!!! Not the back! So my question to firestone is...after they charge ne 40.00 for a oil change and 17.99 for diagnostic fee...that was wrong.. I never ever paid more than 21.00 for a oil change.. and the diagnostics as wrong how do they justify this? So if I would have authorized the work that didn't need to be done then what?? 1400.????? So firestone is not what they used to be.....I will never ever take any of my three vehicles to them and we took all vehicles to them for oilchanges and we trusted them...until last year when they charged 200.00 for a hose that was over priced...10.00 my mechanic said...We got hosed....so I knew better this time..... read more

The customer is right. Always right. (Regardless of how wrong they may be). I went into Firestone looking for a four wheel alignment. This was necessary after having slid into a snow bank and the rear alignment had gone off a small amount. The guy at the front desk immediately starts saying that parts will have to be replaced, without having looked at the vehicle... They continued to disprove any possibility that it could be adjusted and set straight even though they hadn't looked at it. Plus their tire mileage warranty is only affective if you've been going for regular alignments which they did not tell me upon purchase. read more

My "check system" light went on and the indicator light for a tire pressure problem. Had to get it checked out even though tires were checked twice for air, leaks and damage. They said I had a bad tire sensor. Promised to have the work done by 12:30 pm. At 1:15 pm, I noticed the hood up for a job not requiring any work under the hood. They said the battery died while they were working on tire problem. At 1:30 they said they replaced the part (which no competitors' coupons would work for) and they did not have the ability to turn off the "check system" light (admitted my type of car gave them problems in the past-I wish they told me that before they started working on it). Then I get in the car and the seat, steering wheel and shift was covered in sticky grease and dirt! And the light is still on! If there is something they can't do completely, they should tell the customer first. read more
