Normally they do a good ,but last trip, they misdiagnosed my non start by replacing the battery, but that was not the issue, turns out it was a electrical issue, the battery was checked by AAA, and said it was ok ? I will continue to use them, as I believe anyone can have a bad day. They did find a serious safety issue I am thankful for. On April 17, 2024, I made an appointment for rear brake work to be performed on April 29. On the 29th, I dropped the car off at 8AM with the intention of picking it up at the end of the work day (JP Auto closes at 5PM). I was told I would receive a call when the work was completed. By 4:15 I hadn't received a call so I called them. I was told the car had just been pulled into the garage and I would have to leave it with them overnight so the work could be done the next day. I was furious that after having made an appointment and having left the car there for the entire day, JP hadn't even started the job. No apology, no explanation. I was just expected to do without my car overnight and part of the next day. I immediately picked up my car and will find service elsewhere. JP may have some fine mechanics working there, but the business is run in a thoughtless and arrogant manner. read more

I've been going to jp for years. Sadly I will not go there again. I brought my car in for an alignment. $200 later still pulls to right. 2nd appointment, same thing. Was told they did an alignment. Brought it somewhere else, it was done right. Brought another car there via tow truck. Sat 3 months. Was never repaired. Brought 2 tires to be mounted and balanced. The price had doubled since the last time I had it done. And the good tire I wanted saved was not separated. As myself and a tech tried to figure out the good tire, the owner comes over, "what are you going to look at f$#n tires all day?" I took bother tires, put them in my car and Sadly drove off. I've had more bad experiences with jp on Stiles street than good. read more

Excellent and very professional service. After I scheduled my appointment for a tune up on my car, I received a text message confirming the date and time of my appointment. I was able to drop my car off the night before using a secure drop box to leave my keys, which I found convenient. While my car was there, the mechanic called and told me that I didn't actually need a tune up! The most important thing that I needed to have done was having the power steering flushed. They did a fantastic job. I even got a Mist air filter, which helps eliminate molds, pollen, and even Covid-19. I had my car back 4:30 the same day. JP Automotive is great! I highly recommend them for car care. And they do emissions too! read more

I stopped coming here for a bit because pandemic stress/I needed the ability to schedule appointments online and they were still phone only. Well, after several misfires I decided to go back to where I know people will not rip me off and came back. They now have an online appointment request form which is pretty easy to navigate and I got my request approved quickly, which isn't an easy feat as they are always busy. They still offer the same amenities (coffee, hand sanitizer) and touchpads/keyless drop off for COVID-19 compliance. This time I didn't tell them I go to local med school and they still treated me fairly, which I appreciated. There was a mix up at the front desk because there were two similar cars, one needed filters and tires replaced and I, knowing from my maintenance schedule, needed my rear brakes and oil filter replaced (among other things but those were the big ones). After telling me I didn't need both cabin and oil filters replaced, one of the workers came back and told me I did, by *bringing my air filters to me in the lobby where other patrons were waiting*, telling me "it's time to be replaced". It was weird because it felt like he was shaming me for not maintaining my car after someone else had a conversation with me about not needing that part fixed. I told him that I will do whatever I need to do in order to get my car running well, but told him about the mix up conversation I had and he was pretty rude to me about it. Ultimately, I paid for all the recommended repairs here even though I was quoted cheaper elsewhere because I like John, since I first met them, him and his team have always been kind and honest with me and I want to support local businesses. However, I was just, more than anything, really hurt by what happened. Maybe they just have a lot of customers being very rude/reactionary when it comes to servicing, but that's not me and it never has been. I know I haven't been here in two years but I still recommend JP to everyone who asks for a quality shop. I honestly still recommend JP, but I will probably talk to Paul or Art next time. Pros: Honest shop, off the highway, takes payment over the phone, covid compliance Cons: Gets swamped quickly, may take a while to get your appointment/finish repairs. The earlier the better, especially if they need to get parts. read more

The first time I went here during my first year of med school, they offered me a discount on the oil change, so I have been going here ever since. It's funny too because the young gentleman who was helping out with my car noticed that I go to the school where he'll be going for med school as well! Small world. I've never had an issue, and was able to call ahead to schedule my oil change appointments. The staff is very friendly and they do their job well. One time one of them noticed that the air filter needed to be changed. Highly recommend this place! Now I'm kind of sad because I'm moving back to California, so I don't know where to go to get my car oil changed. :/ read more

Outstanding work performed on our VW Tiguan. The shop owner is very meticulous and conscience of work his shop puts out, keeping vehicle till repairs are done to his very high standards. Can't say enough for his ethics as I've had a mechanic shop in the past and know how important reputation is. He definitely does not sacrifice quality for shoddy work, keeping the vehicle as long as necessary to get the job done right. Can't say enough for his work ethics. Shop is definitely recommended but even more so for difficult to find problems that the dealers have difficulty with. He had to fight getting wrong parts sent by the dealers, even when giving all the correct information such a VIN number. Had to personally go to the dealers several times to assure he had the right parts after receiving wrong parts. Can't say enough for the work the shop puts out!! read more

I called and asked if I needed an appointment for an oil change...I was told yes, so I said I'd like to make an appointment. He didn't take my name or info, just told me to come back first thing the next Tuesday. I got there at 7:45 (they open at 8). There was a man at the counter, so I asked him about my appointment, and he said "Come back at 8". Seriously? We're both standing here, right now, but you won't speak with me until 8:00? I'm glad I don't give that kind of service at my job! So I stand outside for 15 minutes, come back in. I mention my appointment, and also the fact that the windshield washer fluid is leaking out. I pick up my car later on.....$180.00!!!! And my glove compartment is on the floor? WTF? He says "You're gonna need air filters, so you'll have to get in there to do it". Amazing place! I highly recommend JP Automotive! If I could give them more than 5 stars I would. I moved from California to Connecticut a few years ago and have tried a couple different mechanics. JP Automotive is by far the best! They always remember me when I come in and treat me with respect. I'm a young woman and sometimes I worry that mechanic shops may take your lack of knowledge of cars and try to tell you that you need unnecessary repairs (this has happened to me once before in the past), but JP Automotive is 100% honest, reliable, timely and respectful to all customers! Awesome repair shop. My car's air conditioning wasn't working right so I brought it in on a Monday morning without an appointment. The owner, John, was kind enough to drive me back to my house while my car was being worked on. After two hours, he called and gave me a fair estimate on how much it'd cost to fix and an hour later the car was ready to be picked up. The air works better than it has in years and I'm excited to have it for the upcoming summer heat. I couldn't have asked for more pleasant experience and I will be sure to bring my car back for any other issues that come up. read more

Saw the good ratings on Yelp, didn't want to go to a big box garage. Came in for basic brake fluid flush and switching my summer tires/wheels to winter tires/wheels, plus an alignment. They broke the lug nut key, initially over charges for the brake fluid flush, and forgot to rotate the tires (put on the winter tires with more tread on the non-drive wheels). I checked tread depth before driving away. When I came back so they could rotate the tires, which I had paid for, they couldn't get one of the wheels off because the nut was over tightened! 4 hours later I'm still here. Imagine if I got a flat and couldn't get the wheel off - that would've required a tow. And a call to my lawyer. I do not recommend this garage. It Is amateur hour over here. Go elsewhere! read more

I went back this year for my emissions, again staff was pleasant and overall this place is very quick. I had another great experience.

I needed brakes done, and asked for an estimate. The shop manager did a test drive with me in the vehicle, and it was *frightening*, especially with bad brakes, tailgating before braking hard and driving aggressively. He had me wait a long time while they inspected the car, which cost me an hour's worth of labor, and told me that it would be more than $700. I didn't have that much money available to me at the moment, so I asked them to put things back together, and I would pay them for their time. The manager was *very* angry, and slammed the brake discs on the counter while returning them, shaking the waiting room. I had been considering coming back to have the work done, but after that, and the scary test drive, I decided not to go back. I wrote previous review which has been deleted somehow, and not by me. The owner called and disputed the claim that I made in my previous Yelp review, but I know what I experienced, and it was unpleasant. The manager never apologized. I figured that I was better off, since their repairs were expensive. They did me a favor, and I got the work done for less than half of the price that JP Auto quoted. read more

This shop is crooked, steer clear. I decided JP Auto because Napa has a good reputation. What I received here for a basic brake job was a joke. I was grossly overcharged for parts along with services that were never authorized. Rather than accuse, I received second opinions from master mechanics at Firestone and Goodyear, who both told me I was taken for a ride. When I calmly and professionally approached John about it, he eventually asked "how much will it cost to shut you up" and aggressively asked me to leave his shop. I am very disappointed by the work that I've had done here. Each time there was a problem. Thses include: 1. Finding 2 quarts extra oil in my car after an oil change. 2. Breaking down in heavy traffic less than a mile from their location after spending over $600. 3. After expensive brake job the pedals must go much too low before they work. I don't know why these things are happening. Are they too rushed? Don'tA care anymore? The results are that I've spent alot of money there only to receive lousy results and rude service. And they didn't even apologize when I broke down in heavy traffic and risked an accident. I went in with my Lexus to have it fixed and I was quoted one price and I paid another. I was charged a cheaper price because they finished early. I got several quotes from a lot of other repair shops and JP was by far the cheapest. I'm impressed with this company. They were/are 100% HONEST!! I would defiantly go there again. I'm a woman and I was not cheated. The manager was very very nice and he took real good care of me and my vehicle and I saved a lot of money. I am not from the area but my daughter rides near JP Automotive. I needed an emissions test and called them. They were fantastic from start to finish. Couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating on the telephone and when I showed up, they took my car right away and I had it back within 10 minutes. I've never written on Yelp before but they were so exceptional that I wanted to post for them. I live in Milford but will bring our other car there and who knows....maybe use them for repairs.
