The technicians here all have booze on their breath. Do I want a drinker working on my car? Nope. I was quoted an overinflated amount for a repair. They charge a flat $150 to 'diagnose your issue' and only compensate it back to you, if you have them do the work, right then and there. I didn't have them do it. In a way, I almost feel as if I'm reviewing an iceburg here - I've seen less than 10% of the business. In fact, I've never even stepped out of the vehicle. Keating Automotive sits between Whitney Avenue and some other road whose name I either don't know or can't remember. I've been working a seasonal job up the street. On an average workday, I drive by Keating multiple times, back and forth...and maybe once or twice a week for the past 5 months, I pull into Keating and park next to their pumps for fuel. When pulling into Keating for gas, the first thing you'll notice is their old gas pump. I'm not sure from which decade it is and I'm not going to venture to guess, but it's an old one. You don't see many of those anymore. The next thing you'll notice about Keating is that within 5 microseconds of pulling up next to the gas pump, an employee will rush out and say something you've heard in vintage films like "What'll it be?" or "Fill 'er up?" The worker fills 'er up and you pay and drive away without ever having to step out of the vehicle. It's almost 2020...where can you find places like that anymore? Hamden, CT, apparently. Every time I drive by I find it funny that the building looks so large yet all I see is the gracefully aging fuel pumps. I wonder what else goes on in the other 90% of the business while I evaluate them based on the friendliness of the employees who pump the gas and on not having to get out of the vehicle. It's November and it's getting cold. Maybe some day I'll check out more of their business? I would imagine they buy and sell and fix cars? For now, I'm talking about the gas pumps and convenience and they are right on point! read more

The staff is very pleasant and helpful and the mechanics really know their stuff. I feel like the price for the work was fair and that is very important, especially to single, very elderly women. A couple years ago I took my sons 1998 Nissan Maxima to Keating for a engine oil leak. After looking at the car they said the car was not worth fixing .It would be to much money.They said the valve covers are leaking or something else.They charged 90 dollars and did nothing not even clean the engine to see where it was leaking. I took it to another shop and they found the leak right away after cleaning engine. It was a simple oil sending unit. Cost 60.00 . I contacted Keating bros. For a refund. They said no so I will continue to give them a 1 star. Do not use this shop .They are dishonest!!!!!!!!! read more

When I moved to Connecticut I had a horrible time trying to find a trustworthy mechanic. I had an engine misfire with a code, I suspected spark plugs or coils in my 08 Mariner, and I called a couple of placed to get OUTRAGEOUS quotes - like 700$ to replace just the spark plugs and more for the coils. After two mechanics looked at my misfiring car one said he wanted to money to "dig around" and find the problem and the other said my catalytic converter needed to be replaced, quoting over 1000$. I needed another opinion so I went to Keating because my roommate, whose family is from here, recommended them. They're a family owned business and IMMEDIATELY it felt much better than the other places I had been. I took my car in, they said a single coil needed to be replaced and voila my car, which I had been unable to drive without misfiring for over 4 months, was fixed and worked perfect. More recently I had sold that car and went to Keating to get a used car pre-inspection. They did it for free and they spent over an hour looking at the car! Unfortunately I waited to long to put in an offer in for that car but I'll be back to Keating as soon as I hunt down another used car I like and I will be back for all of my regular maintenance and service needs after that. The prices are extremely reasonable, the service was excellent, and every person I talked to there was so nice and professional. Went in for a simple emissions tests. Told me my vehicle didn't have a VIN number. Got to my car and saw the VIN number right in the doorway. Take your vehicle somewhere else since they can't spot a simple VIN number! read more
