Tried this spot based off reviews. So, I'm a first timer, which I told the young lady taking orders. I ordered three pulled chicken sandwiches, 6 smoked wings, half slab of ribs, Mac and cheese, fries, and cornbread for my family. Pros: The pulled chicken sandwiches, the wings, and the fries all had a good flavor, seasoned! The honey cornbread was good. The ribs were tender too. I can't speak on the flavor because I didn't eat them. However, my son seemed to love it. The sauces are great! Cons: The Mac and cheese is noodles with nacho cheese. Also, I asked was the wings were fall of the bone tender. The young lady taking orders didn't know. She asked the manager (maybe owner). He responded saying they are tender and then turned to an employee and whispered "he's never been asked that before" as if he was offended. I responded to him to let him know I heard him. Well as far as him never being asked that question, I've never ate at their establishment. So, we're even. His next response was pleasant. Although the owner (manager) could use some polishing, he ended the transaction nicely and the food was really good. Therefore, I gave them four stars. read more

I was literally drawn into the restaurant because the smell of the barbecue from the outside literally made my mouth water, and I couldn't wait to try it. I ordered a platter for my girlfriend and I. We ordered brisket, baked beans, ribs, macaroni, and cornbread. The food looked pretty good, but was cold. The cornbread was dry and crumbly. I don't care how good your food is, I prefer my food hot. So I asked if my food could be warmed up. A lady in the kitchen said "this is the second time today!" She informed the other two guys in the kitchen and they were looking around dumbfounded acting as if they didn't know what to do. Then I was told they didn't have a way to warm up my food... Umm say what?!? They told me that the brisket sits in a warmer all day, the corn bread is ordered from a different place, basically nothing gets cooked there.... But they will try to warm it up. They brought us or our food.... Still cold. Huge appetite spoiler! I looked around and said to myself, "is this how y'all like your barbecue?" My friend finished most of it, trying to not throw all the food away. I left really disappointed. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. I love this place. The food is amazing. However, as we were waiting for our food, an employee was spraying bleach cleaner on to unoccupied tables. The spray cleaner is was saturating the paper towels intended on each tables use for patrons. This is toxic, and dangerous. I am in no means to post a bad review, but the laziness of a single employee can literally kill someone. Please up your game. read more

We went here for our wedding anniversary, which may seem like a weird choice considering the style restaurant but we had BBQ at our barn wedding in Wisco so we wanted to relive... We haven't though found good BBQ locally here where we live and we have tried a lot of places, until now! I was blown away by their ribs, which I feel like I'm pretty particular on how I like my ribs. They were both properly seasoned, and sauced, they weren't dry. They came off the bone with ease, but also didn't fall off either, just perfectly cooked. My husband had in addition to ribs the brisket, onion rings, and mac'n'cheese all of which were good (I couldn't help but try his too, all the reviews saying the mac was bad were wrong lol). He said if he had to choose ribs were better, but only slightly, both were good. He is a chef and cooks for a living, so to get his approval means something. I had with my ribs the potato chive and corn bread. Both my sides were good, nothing to write home about, but paired nicely with the food. Next time I think I probably would try fried pickles instead of corn bread. Atmosphere is cute, the smell so good and woody. Definitely coming back! read more

The area is very limited on authentic bbq. Firewater is pretty much hit or miss and they're a little more pricey than they need to be but it is what it is. The owner is not friendly, not even a little, it almost seems like having customers is an inconvenience for him. It must be an inconvenience to clean the tables or fill the sauces at the table because they're always sticky and you're usually missing a couple flavors at any given table. All the sides are pretty good, except for the cornbread feel free to skip that one. The chicken pork and ribs are usually top notch but the brisket is a coin flip. I've had brisket with absolutely 0 smoke ring and some done to perfection. Sometimes it has a lot of fat on it and I know it's a fatty cut of meat but there's a line to be drawn somewhere. Over all they're good. I'm not dishing out 5 stars because theres a lot of room for improvement. Maybe keep the owner in the back or he can clean tables instead. read more

Today I felt the cravings for some BBQ. I decided on firewater BBQ in crest Hill. Service was average also dining area is roomy large enough for large groups when they have the bar doors open. I ordered the brisket with fries & onion rings aka. Bucktown speciality drink . $12.31 w/tax. A bit on the steep side for cost. To my brisket sandwich.... um, dry is the first thing I noticed then I looked further and to my surprise no smoke ring at all!!! No smoke Ring!! Dope!! I also noticed way to much fat on this serving. In short it was like one of those roasts you over cook in the crockpot cause you forgot about it unbelievable! Fries were warm not fresh and onion rings were the only fresh item on my plate aside from the ice. Lol. At this point I was a bit disappointed on top of this one of the lady workers yelling back to her co-workers I would have to say something about the new changes on the menu. Firewater is not good BBQ. They do there best and have some decent items on the menu, but if people in the area want better quality BBQ the best spot is baby back blues in shore wood. Firewater does have good sauces and the right atmosphere, but being from NC it is a not a good example of good southern BBQ. read more

International Relations. What? So here we are, all twelve of us after doing a project for a major corporation. Included with the twelve of us are four associates from Thailand that couldn't speak an entire sentence of English if they tried. Apparently BBQ translates well regardless of the language spoken, because our Thai guests couldn't eat another bite. Not because it was bad... Far from it, but more-so because their smaller physical size doesn't allow as much meat to be consumed like us hearty "Merrrrcans". It's no surprise that the greater Chicago area isn't known for barbecue, but this place can easily do so in one fell swoop. The meats all of us consumed were tender, flavored just right, and in giant quantities that made even this chubby guy filled to the brim. I sampled off just about everyone's various plates from the brisket, to the chicken, to the sausages (you have to say it like George Wendt from the SNL skit), but the real killer were the pulled pork cheese fries. Good lord this is sinful! No one person should consume this tray of meat, tater, cheese, and saucy overkill, but your ability to share is entirely up to you. If you can eat all the fries, then you are more man than I, and I salute your manliness. Our Thai friends thoroughly enjoyed their visit to this place, and the service was excellent. In the South, we have plenty of BBQ places, but on this island of thick pizzas, beef sammiches, and haht dags, this place is a pearl. Keep doing what you're doing. If (and only if), we have to come back, I am definitely stopping here again. read more

I was witness to the owner having an attitude with a customer. Customer asked for all brisket (not asking for a freebie or anything) instead of 2 meats. Owner was very rude. Note: If you don't want a customer to do that, explain why. Don't get upset. People don't know what you're thinking. Explain another way of ordering what customer wants. Communicate with the person! Made me nervous I'd be treated like this. Like I said, rib tips and brisket are very good, but people can go lots of places nowadays. My wife and I were in town for the race. We looked up bbq and found Firewater Bbq. The ribs were fantastic. Perfect smoke, with great rub. I hardly used any sauce since the ribs were so great. The baked beans were simply wonderful. My wife ordered the brisket sandwich and she loved it. If we're ever back in the area we will definitely be back at Firewater BBQ. read more

Food is amazing if you like bbq and service is pretty good. There are two rooms and it is like a country vibe. Take out and dine in. It can be a little pricey depending on what you get. Getting in can be a little tricky if you don't know the area well. There are a limited options, there are a couple different things that you can get, but basically every single thing that you would get there is barbecue there is literally nothing else. Ugh. Some of the most disappointing brisket in my life. I ordered one of the 2 meat combos: sliced brisket & rib tips with beans and a side of garlic fries. The brisket came out in extremely thin cut grayed out strips that were completely overcooked and as dry as possible. Knew there might be a problem when the order taker didn't bother to ask for moist or dry cuts. I prefer moist, but have readily eaten and enjoyed dry brisket in the past. There was absolutely no discernible smoke ring to the thin slices merely they were grayed out in consistency. Thankfully Firewater provides 6 different sauces to drown your meat in which made the brisket slightly edible. This was my first time ordering rib tips ever. I usually shied away from them as the cartilage wasn't something I was up for dealing with but overall they were pretty tasty. No dipping sauces were necessary with only a small effort with the cartilage. If returning, I would probably stick with the pork based BBQ as they easily strike out with the beef brisket. The side of fries were okay though I really could not pick up much garlic seasoning on them. They give you a boat load so be forewarned that two people can handle them and then some. Other patrons seemed to get off on the pulled pork fries. Though a dish like that does not make a true BBQ joint. I was not impressed much with the length of time needed to wait for my single order of food. At 30 mins and people ordering behind me getting their food way ahead of my simple 2 meat plate seemed to make my order feel unappreciated... maybe they spent all that extra time over cooking my thin strips of brisket? read more

This place is cool. We've been here a few times and finally honed down our favorite foods. I'm not a huge pork bbq girl but I love the grill master burger. It's a burger topped with Gouda, pulled pork and bacon. It's ridiculously good. Definitely something to enjoy just every once in awhile. I pair it with the sweet potato fries which are sprinkled with some kind of cinnamon sugar. Mmm My husband likes to get the two meat combo with pork and brisket, he gets potato salad which he raves about and always adds an extra bun. Stopped by on our way to Warrior Dash (IL). My husband, in-laws and toddler accompanied me! We're big BBQ fans so we decided to try this place out. We ordered pork, brisket, salad and Mac & cheese. The place was not super busy, but staff was somewhat rude when we asked for more condiments. It was like we were inconveniencing them. We eventually were given more ranch for our salad after asking a few times. The pulled pork was ok. Salad was delicious, and according to my hubby, the brisket was "the best he's ever had. Firewater BBQ catered my engagement party and the food was amazing! I served 35-40 guests with no problem. They recommended 15-18 pounds of meat with two sides. I ordered the pulled pork, chicken and brisket. The brisket was gone in twenty minutes! Everything was packaged and bagged very nicely. No spills or leakage. They were very accommodating and easy to work with. I would recommend them for any event, especially outdoor events. read more

I stopped by here on my way home from work one Saturday for a to go order and got the brisket with no bun and fries. Brisket was tender and juicy and was served in slices, unfortunately fries were soggy. Because i love brisket, I have returned 5 times since my first visit and been dissapointed each time. 2nd time I got the brisket with no bun and Mac & Cheese, although the Brisket was shredded this time not sliced it was a little on the dry side. Mac & Cheese was on the spicy side with some sort of cheese Wiz like sauce, Not a favorite of mine. 3rd time i tried the Brisket Tacos this time my brislet came sliced again and the portions were decent but when i got home they forgot my cole slaw. 4th time another Brisket with no bun and cole slaw. Brisket was sliced this time again but very dried out and hard, very disapointing. Slaw was good 5th and last time i got figured i'd try the brisket tacos one more time. Sorry i did brisket was sliced in half very thin strips, dried out and hard although i did get the slaw this time it did not make up for the fact i could not eat the tacos because the brisket was so hard and dried up. So as you can see i really, really gave them several tries as they are right on my way home from work and i love BBQ. The problem is they are not consistent i never got the same cut of meat every visit Not sure if it depended upon who was cooking or carving but each time was different very dissapointing. read more
