The atmosphere was a lovely British themed environment and fit the theme of a great Firkin. The pub was was as typical. The calamari comes with bell pepper and green beans more to to the fill the plate. I have the chicken Cesar salad and sweet potatoes potato fries. Both lacked crispiness or a a taste of freshness. My cousin had the Cobb salad which as huge and amazing. The wings were so so depending on what flavour you got. The only truly amazing thing was the skyline. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to come here because it stays open late. When we arrived, we gave our server our drink and appetizer order. She asked if we wanted to order other food too, and I told her that we would order that later. The drinks took over 20 minutes to come. This was on a Tuesday night before 10 pm, not even peak dining time. Anyways, when we were ready to order our entrees, the server told us that they had switched over to the late-night menu... I was extremely annoyed. Why wasn't this told to us before? When we told her our drink order, she should have informed us that at 10 pm they switch over to the late-night menu. We would have placed our order with the drinks. The late-night menu is limited, but we settled for the nachos. When the food arrived, she told us that she took the nachos off the bill. I thought that this was a nice gesture and her way of recognizing that she screwed up. The food was mediocre. The Boozy Lemonade tasted very watery. Cool pub with a seemingly eternal amount of foot traffic. The place is loud to the extreme and quite poorly when it gets dark outside. Maybe they're trying to save on their electricity bill with the amount of TVs they're using, but I feel like upping the brightness would be nice so I can see my food. The loudness of the place makes it real difficult to talk to people next to you, but I guess that's just what pubs are like? I got the fish & chips and a sangria pitcher. The fish was lightly battered and nicely cooked so it's still fluffy. The fries were a bit lukewarm and I can definitely see a quality difference when compared to my friend's fries that came a few minutes later, which were piping hot. I likely won't come again just because the ambience wasn't my vibe. The food wasn't necessarily fantastic either, even the few samplings I had of my friends' foods weren't making me think I'm missing out. read more

Visited again and the mediocre customer service is keeping my rating at 3.5. The stone faced waitress provided the minimum amount of service. Definitely did not feel welcomed here. The food on the other hand was pretty good. We had the Sunday special which was shepherd's pie for $10. We also had the meatball linguine for $16. We just had our work holiday get together at the Firkin on Bay and had a great time and enjoyed some great food and drinks. Serenity was our server who was very attentive and checked in on how we were all doing with food and drinks. the space they provided our group was perfect for what we had planned- some gift exchanges and some games- and Serenity was great in helping to clear away food and dishes to make room for our activities. I attended Firkin on Bay Street's Grand Opening Event yesterday and it was quite enjoyable. I met several friends/other people I knew there and it was already getting pretty packed when I arrived, which was only about 10 minutes after the Event started at 5:30 pm. The venue is quite spacious, extensively decorated and pretty conveniently located, not far from the subway. Due to it being their opening Event, for the most part II only had samples - both drinks and food - but a couple others in our group ordered nachos to share which were quite good and a very big portion. I may be visiting one of the other Firkin locations in the suburbs for brunch or lunch soon and I've been to several other Firkin Pubs over the years, pretty much all of which are closer to downtown. I can't recall having had or witnessed any bad experiences at any of them and several are very conveniently located right on subway lines. I can therefore recommend visiting one, and they may be of particular interest to Tourists due to their convenience in getting to. I'll likely be reviewing another location if/when I visit one soon, in which case I can provide a more thorough review in terms of the service, etc. read more

Pretty awful experience last night at the Firkin on Bay; we arrived at 6:35ish to a pretty empty restaurant and were seated pretty quickly with some waters. After a very long wait, we were able to order drinks with a different waitress - a mojito and a coffee. Waited forever to be able to place our dinner order (again, with another waitress as ours never came back). Ordered starters and mains, and we were both pretty hungry and frustrated by that point. Eventually my mojito came, followed by our main courses - before the starters! We mentioned it to the waitress delivering our food (a third person - our original waitress had never come back to check on us), who blamed the one who'd taken our order for putting everything in together. That was fine - cancel the starters. We had to eat our food really quickly as we had an 8pm show around the corner - it was delicious, and we both wished we had time to actually enjoy it. We flagged a waitress to get the bill, and had to send it back to be updated as they hadn't charged for the drinks. After paying and going to the bathroom, we were just getting up to go when the coffee arrived - with our original waitress!! She apologized for the delay with the coffee taking a long time to make and said it was on the house. It was a very disappointing visit for something that should have been a pretty standard pub dinner. read more

Before this was a Firkin UK style themed pub it was a different pub that could have easily been mistaken for an older style Firkin. While the interior has changed tremendously and has become more open and less intimate with the sprawling booths that once were now gone it has still maintained a good vibe despite going corporate. The staff are more than accommodating and downright friendly and helpful as most items can be made to fit dietary restrictions. I am personally a fan of their avocado tacos and drink special. read more

Firkin on Bay Street is your next new spot for chilling with friends and colleagues after work (or even during lunch and afternoon)! It's around three small streets south of Bay and Bloor, which is also super close to Firkin on Bloor, the location I generally go to. The restaurant entrance is not obvious as it's somewhat hidden behind various pillar/walls and lumped inwards. When I entered, the atmosphere was nice and walls were decorated well with the most random artworks. I've already taken it as Firkin's normal. However, I found it slightly darker than preferred overall especially when it's still daylight outside or dark. I came with a large party of around 20 and it was still pretty tough to fit everyone in. They tried their best to accommodate us in an area with 4-5 tables combined and wrapped in an L-shape. Nevertheless, we still had a good time! Since it was around dinner time, I got to try some of Firkin on Bay Street's food: French Onion Soup ($7), Pickle Fries (11), Bangers and Mash (13), and a Pommies cider. First time trying the pickle fries and it was interesting. Weirdly enough, I actually like it compared to just pickles but wouldn't eat it every day. As for the French Onion Soup, it made me warm and fuzzy. They filled the soup to the bowl's top and you will definitely spill some as you take your first sip. Taste was good and not too strong, cheese with the bread and onions were well mixed. I wouldn't mind more cheese though :P As for the Bangers and Mash, it's basically large sausages with mash potatoes on a plate. I've never tried it until today and was worried it isn't worth it - but now I take that back. Everything was sufficient and delicious, from the tender sausage meat to mash potatoes flavoured just right. Likewise, it was a huge plate! Lastly, my Pommies cider tasted as good as a Somersby apple cider - totally recommend for anyone who enjoys a nice cider any day! Overall, it was a good experience but nothing overwhelming. Service was pleasant as the waitress was quite attentive when we needed something. Happy to know she also remembers relatively who ordered what, and didn't forget getting me a spoon while she took someone else's order. P.S. The music gets louder and louder as the night goes. I felt it was a bit too loud in the end, makes it more like a club and we had to talk really loud busting our throats out. read more

Let's be honest. There really isn't such a thing as a good Firkin pub. At least not anymore, but this one may be the worst of a bad lot. We generally go out and keep it a bit more upscale, but we go there sometimes, just because it's in the neighborhood and we want to keep things simple, like a quick beer and burger. There have been times where they have good regular servers but for the most part since Covid, it's a revolving door of mediocre to barely competent servers. In fact, one of the reasons we go back is it's quite likely that the last crop of bad servers we had will have been replaced, and maybe, just maybe, we'll get a gem instead. Anyway, they seemed confused tonight by the 2 cent tip. To clarify, it's not that I don't know how to work a credit card terminal, it's just my way of acknowledging your poor service. read more

Went with a few colleagues after work on a Wednesday to try out Wing Night. $10 for 1 lb of wings is a decent enough deal! $6 pints of Canadian too (full pints, not those small glasses of beer other places call 'pints'). Each day has a special. We ordered a plate of calamari & shrimp to share, which was probably the best I've ever had at a pub. It was really good! Sadly it was a bit on the small side for sharing, but I'd still highly recommend it. I had 1 lb of wings, which were pretty good but nothing to write home about. Just kind of average and a tad on the small side (though you do get a few more because of that). My friends seemed to enjoy theirs more than me, for what it's worth. Sadly they charged me $1 for a side of hot sauce without telling me there would be a charge. Reeeeally don't like when places do that. Atmosphere was nice. They've really done a nice job on the place compared to the old Foxes Den that used to be there. My only complaint would be the locations of the TVs. There's a lot of them, and some are pretty big, but they're all near the tops of the walls, and this place has high ceilings! Makes viewing a literal pain in the neck. The bar area is pretty cool, but if you're going to have seats on all sides, why aren't there TVs on all sides??? (only on two). The Staff were very pleasant but seemed to forget about us from time to time. I guess it's still kind of new or maybe it was just an off night for that. 3.75 out of 5 - I'd go again. read more

Unbelievable experience tonight. Walked in there with my buddy 1hr ago, 1customer up at the bar and we had to hunt the waitress down to let us in. Sat down, and waited 10 mins before I had to finally track her down up at the bar chatting with the only customer. . I waited approx 3 mins and we finally said to ourselves, we're out of here. We walked up to the front door and I said to her while she was still engaged in conversation, 'I think we are going to leave.'.Her response to me while walking away was ''You're not the only customer. ' as she knows I was displeased with the service up to this point. My blood started to boil, so I made some sarcastic comment that yea it's packed. She came back with the next disrespectful response so I stupidly lost my cool verbally. I swear if the service was good we would have never go through this. Shit service with dumb staff 1. Walked in and waited for 5 whole minutes on a Friday night and got no service. Then walked around with no one to seat us even though there were about 3 to 4 staff waiting tables! Guess they didn't get trained on greeting new guests? 2. Final kill - at the start of the order waitress- SAM told me for $2 I can add a side. I initially decided not to order one but then right after the order, called her and asked her to add the salad for $2. When I got the bill I was charged $3.50! When I questioned our "efficient waitress" Sam about it, then her response was "I had already punched in your order, couldn't change it". REALLY??? How stupid do u think I am or how ancient is your ordering system?? It's not about $1.50 more it's about not telling me that she was going to over charge me WHEN I ordered! She could have easily told me earlier that I can't get the salad for $2 anymore and now it will be 3.50. Then I could have decided what I wanted to do. 4. Bonus kill - everyone who knows what is a Caesar salad knows it had dressing in it!! But not this damn place! My Caesar salad had NO dressing! ZERO dressing! So I chewed on lettuce, bacon and some cheese like a damn cow cuz they were taking too long to fix my order! When you open a place like this in downtown, u NEED to have efficient staff and good service. Every corner has a competition opening up! We recently organized a retirement party for a well-loved colleague who warranted a thoughtful send-off into his post-work life. We had a live band that was willing to perform if we covered the cost of their parking and drinks, and about 75 people from all over who expressed interest in attending the event. Firkin on Bay Street was able to not only accommodate our needs, but they assigned two staff persons to serve the guests at our party and they were absolutely terrific. Anna and Maddie managed to remember individual guest's names and provide them personalized service with respect to their drink orders. They were organized, professional, quick, personable and so courteous! The band played on the venue's raised platform; we had speeches, a song tribute from our unit to the man of the hour, and a trivia game about the beloved retiree. All was met with cheer and gracious behaviour from both, the other patrons at the restaurant, and the staff. While we would probably choose different finger foods next time we host a large party (nachos quickly congeal and get soggy, and people much preferred hot hors d'oeuvres like chicken fingers and samosas over crudite platters -- who knew?), we would be absolutely thrilled to host another event at this venue. It is spacious, bright, accessible (we had some guests with visual impairment who needed to bring their service dogs and they were welcome, too), and the service was outstanding. I figured it was time for a review after visiting on a few occasions. Every time we visited, we had great service and food. I had the beyond veggie burger with beet salad, and my friend had the broccoli cheese pasta. Both our meals were incredible. The place is very spacious, and not too loud either. read more

Really terrible service. I went on a weekday night with a friend and his girlfriend. It wasn't very busy. But the service was very poor. Both the server and bartender seemed like they didn't want to be there. The server had a bit of an attitude, and a vibe like she didn't want to be there, and made us feel as though everything we asked for was a chore for her. The bartender made a comment that came across as sarcastic. It was also really hard to get their attention, even though the place was so empty. We had drinks and food. Shame, if the service was decent and staff were friendly, we'd go back as it's a convenient location for us! read more

We attended a Live Music night to hear my brother in law play music he had written. The facility was nice and clean, but the staff and security need to learn to deal with customers. While I understand my husband was in the wrong, he brought a bottle of pop into the establishment, the way they dealt with the situation was not proper. The waitress had caught him with the pop and told him he was not allowed to have it in the pub. He got up to take it to the car but decided to go to the washroom to dispose of it. Our waitress told one of the other employees what she had seen and he followed my husband into the washroom. When he got back to the table, 2 security guards came to the table and asked if they could speak to him and they escorted him out of the facility. They never asked him what was in the bottle or what he did with it, and never told him why he was being escorted out. They came to our table and told us that he was not allowed back in, as he was making his own mixed drink in the washroom. I know for a fact this was not the case but there was no disputing it with them. Yes, my husband was in the wrong, but they should have investigated it or given him a warning. He had ordered 2 rum and cokes, so therefore the alcohol they smelled on him was their own alcohol. I will not be back to this particular Firkin Pub but may check out a few more around town. read more
