I can see why this shop has so many good reviews. I have had alot of work done on my previous car so I have dealt with many shops but I think I have finally found my "main" mechanic. I live all the way in San Jose, but I'm in the area at least once a week. I usually get my tires done next door and I figured it would be convenient to get all my work done all at once. Decided to yelp this place first and gave it a shot. At first I was skeptical because I knew I had my light on but I also knew that I needed other things done. I asked the guy who quoted me how much for a full car inspection, he gave me the price, and that was that. Two mins later he tells me about what is triggering the code and started giving me rough estimates on what Im looking at. Okay thats fine, but was that the full car inspection? He said yea. But I kind of nodged him to check my brakes which then he started to visually check around my car and found a leak on my transmission pan. I asked him to give me an estimate and told him I would also need a tune up, so he jotted everything down with a price but didn't really explain anything. Im a girl of transparency, so it really threw me off, I started to ask him a whole bunch of questions. Wrote down his name on my copy, asked him to give me the code number, and still scheduled an appointment the following week. The following week comes and this is where I meet the owner Sam and all the doubts I had flew out the window. Not only is he a genuinely nice guy, but his work ethic is extremely professional. He was very transparent in his explanation for cost, what work will be done, and how long it will take. Not once did he try to up sell me into anything that I didn't need to do with my car, in fact he worked to find ways that were going to be cheaper. It was more of like "heres the problems, lets fix just that. " Im so happy with how smooth my car feels. The guy who worked on my car was so nice too. He did an amazing job, and although it was alot of work, they got the job done before they closed. I just couldn't leave without saying thank you. This place is definately worth the drive. I was contacted by the owner in regards to my experience, and he personally took responsibility for the situation and apologized. I thought it was professional, and that gesture was enough for me to want to revise my review. However, he also added that he wanted to throw in a free Signature Service for my car in order to make up for the negative experience. I was not expecting to receive such a generous offer, and honestly a sincere apology was already more than enough. I pushed back, saying I already had my oil changed and wouldn't even need that part of the service, but he insisted for me to come in whenever my car needs it. That clearly showed me how much First Auto Service does care about their customers, and that we definitely all just have off days some times. I will definitely be coming in again and giving First Auto Service a second chance. read more

UPDATE: They would provide me with touch up paint. Uh, cool? I had a similar incident with a tint place with me interior, however, he took full responsibility right away and got it fixed back to exactly how I dropped the car off. ------------------------------- I would do 3.75 if I could lol! I was at 5! Sam is straightforward and honest, hard to find someone like him nowadays. I had my oil changed and regular maintenance on my car this past Saturday. I didn't have an appointment, but he squeezed me in (which was awesome!). Unfortunately, I noticed today (two days later) a nice a size gouge on my car from where they put the lift to raise her. As expected both of Sam and his employee mentioned, had they put the lift where the gouge is the whole piece would of fallen off etc etc. I expected them to say this. My point is this, it sure as hell didn't happen from anything else, i would understand his point had I scrapped my front or rear end bumpers and I was blaming them (fair enough), this was on the side of the car under my rear passenger door. A horribly hard place for this to be a routine driving screw up lol, I understand Sam's point he is going defend his business and employees, respectable. But, don't tell me that weird things just happen on the road. The spot where it happened is in such a peculiar place for any hazards on the road to cause it. :( Furthermore, they had another car on the lift, and the arms were crossing over where the nice gouge is on my car lol. His employee was more defensive than he was when I mentioned that. Deep down I know he gets where I'm coming from! He's a coo ass dude and I get where he's coming from too, but still! lol I still like First Auto Service, I just wish his employees were a little more careful. This is the second car i brought here, I had great service when dealing directly with Sam. He kept an eye on the first car i brought to him, to make sure his employees were doing what needed to get done properly. I get it, shit happens. But she's still fairly new and it hurts, even if she wasn't new it would still hurt! lol It was a mistake on his employees part, a BIGGER mistake on my part for not doing a walk through of the car when I picked it up on Saturday morning. Lesson learned the hard way! Always no matter who it is, do a quick walk around when picking up your car from anyone! :/ Will I go back, yes!. five stars for attitude. I was have a PMS kind of morning and not really feeling like discussing synthetic oil or half synth blah blah blah. So, I was kind of rude and told him to do whatever just to end my agony. I have several topics i can talk about for hours but mechanical stuff is just not for me. The owner took me in right away and said it would be a quick job. He delivered. Not only that but He was totally understanding. I apologized for my moodiness and he said it was no problem. I am not saying go verbally abuse the guy, no way!!! This is just a place that knows people, knows their business, is quick, efficient, and affordable. Me and my spouse always get an oil change from here. They are very fairly priced and do a great job I am updating my review for this place. It used to be my foot place but I needed to update my review a while back. A while back the management changed. We used to work with the mechanic Goldberg, he's a genuine guy. The owner Sam is money minded and rude and his focus is only on making the most out of every visit. We don't go there anymore. As for oil change, many other places do a good job. I broke down across the street in the mall parking lot. While I was there under my hood, one of the employees (Andy) noticed me and came over to help. After helping me tinker for 5 minutes he said he worked at the shop and would help me push it there (either I get it up and running or they would fix it for me the next day). The owner, Sam, was locking up when we pushed the car in. Andy helped me tinker around for another 10-15 minutes and then I decided to throw in the towel and let them fix it. Left my key under the door with a note and left. Car up and running the next day by 3PM. Sam and Andy were both very helpful and accommodating. The rates charged for diagnostic and repair were very reasonable given Bay Area rates and the part was par with the price from a reputable parts dealer. All in all, I was very happy to have broken down there. Didn't have to order a tow, wait, figure out where to take it, etc. and was dealt with fairly and reasonably. read more

Found this place based on their great yelp reviews and they do live up to their reputation! I came here on a Saturday afternoon for an oil change, dropped off my car and started to wander to downtown Sunnyvale to kill time during oil change. Within 10 mins of dropping off my car, Sam called and notified me that my radiator was actually failing and I needed a new one. I asked if it was possible to get this fixed over the weekend and it was replaced same day! Sam was very accommodating and made multiple calls to suppliers to find a supplier who could send a matching radiator for my car to their shop the same day. I went in with my girlfriend's car, whose rear wheels were making a screeching sound once a while. The technician at First Auto Service had a quick glance at the car and immediately recommended a full replacement of the brake pads and rotors on all 4 wheels for $600+ (and was very insistent about it). Problem is the rotors are in pristine condition (no visible wear) and were changed just a few months ago... This shop may have raving reviews on Yelp but such an obvious oversell attempt is a deal breaker for me. read more

I found this place due to the location and the fact that they were open on Sundays. I've never been a huge fan of the chain-type shops, where they waste so much time trying to up sell you. Sam was great, he got my car in, oil changed in under 30 minutes and under $30. Sam mentioned a repair that I should consider doing in the future, but didn't pressure me to have it done at that time. I called them few days earlier than my "appointment" to make sure the can replace my cabin airfilter and oil change. The guy rudely told me in the phone that "why are we talk about it? Just come in.." I was okay. Then on the day of my appointment found out, they don't have cabin airfilter on stock and they have to order it... and by the way someone's car is already there, so I have to wait for the oil change. what???
