    Hwe Dup Bap Bowl
    Alicia R.

I've started traveling up the thruway recently and this is the perfect location for a dinner stop along the way. The staff are always super friendly, the location downtown Kingston is quaint and lovely. I love getting the HweDupBap bowl, sometimes I add extra tuna. I make it my own by swapping the spinach for seaweed, adding ginger and pineapple. The bowls are filling and a complete and satisfying meal, without making me too tired to keep on driving. The fried rice is nice, sometimes a little salty but a nice addition. If this were closer to me I'd be here ALL the time! I catch myself craving their poke bowls far too often, and other poke bowl places just don't compare to their variety and combinations. DON'T miss out, stop in today!

This could quite possibly have been the best poke bowl I've had. I'm not going to break down everything in it but the proteins were salmon and tuna. Absolutely delicious and I absolutely recommend trying this place out.

Went into First Capital Poke Bar after reading the reviews and definitely was not disappointed! Staff was welcoming and extremely helpful! Food was very fresh and tasty! Highly recommend and will definitely come back on future visits to the Kingston area.

I've been coming to FCPB since it opened and have loved to watch it grow over the last four years. Not many places can say that their food's quality doesn't diminish with time and FCPB has been serving up incredible dishes since their doors opened. I'm a picky eater and there's plenty of options for me to choose from, or to make my own special dish. The staff are always incredibly helpful and attentive to my needs/wants. Not only that, they are a PLEASURE! Friendly, welcoming, and it feels like they genuinely enjoy being there. The owner, Max, is also a treat; always cooking and helping out on the counter or as a cashier. It's so refreshing to see a business owner who really cares not only about the product, but the experience one has from start to finish. With plenty of seating and fun decor, eating in is a great option. But, of course, you can take it to go; whether that means home or the benches outside! They even have a grab-n-go cooler with fresh pre-made goodies (all of which are great) Personal favorites: vegan bowl, chicken teriyaki bowl, pickled plum onigiri, and the chicken katsu masubi! FCPB is great and an important staple of uptown Kingston. I'm already thinking about my next meal!!

I wanna start by saying the food is good nothing crazy but decent. They have a nice selection of proteins, veggies and toppings. The only issue I have is pricing . If you want a fulfilling meal you'd have to spend more than what you may be willing to spend on lunch. Not a bad place to eat but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Love this place! Such fresh poke bowls, they have ramen on the weekends and shaved ice specials which are so good! Lots of drink options and customization to all bowls so you can get what you want

I love smoked salmon, but I definitely underestimated my ability to handle wasabi! I thought the spread would mellow out the flavor a bit, but nope--the wasabi really lingers in your mouth and does not want to leave. I ended up wiping some of it off after a while because it was just too much for me. That said, the toast itself was so good--soft on the inside with the perfect crunch, and the salmon practically melts in your mouth. The whipped ricotta was even better! Overall, really enjoyed the food and the cute café atmosphere. Just go easy on the wasabi if you're not a fan of strong flavors!

I get it support local restaurants and the prices reflect the current wages blah blah. Service was very attentive and helpful. The seating in there has mostly 2s and a couple of 4 seaters. I thought it was odd when we walked in there with our baby in a car seat, they didn't offer to put him in a chair cuz I don't think there was a high chair. I woulda asked but home skillet was ktfo and I wasn't tryna awaken the beast. That isn't discrediting the service or this place at all. My 3 star is purely at a cost to quality standpoint. I found out that there's other towns that are like 15min drive with more diner options and I missed out on that.

This one also has an assortment of ramen, noodle bowls and bubble teas. "Hawaii" is a chain with a remarkably large menu. I came in for poke but wound up with a rice noodle bowl, instead. Orders are placed at the counter just like a fast food joint but this isn't really fast food. Most of the food is actually made to order. The staff is really patient. They'll help you navigate the massive menu with many options. If you're dining in they'll bring your orders to your table. I picked thin rice noodles with spicy miso broth and pork belly. I also asked for most of the free toppings and the free hard boiled egg. The pork belly turned out to be a fatty cut. That was on me. Next time, I'll order BBQ pork l,instead. As for that "spicy" broth, they mean it. Next time, I'll also ask for a little less heat in my broth. Still, was a delicious meal which was prepared just for me. I added a large Lycee slushie to my order. It was pretty good but too large. I have to go medium next time. I couldn't finish the meal. I took it home and ate it again for breakfast the next day (I have a cast iron stomach and can eat spicy breakfasts). If this business is part of a chain where are the other restaurants? The manager said most are on Long Island. The Castleton restaurant is the only one in the Capital Region and the restaurant is largely a family-run operation. It's clean, bright, very modern and cute. There's cute wall art. Some illuminated. Others are wallpaper depicting food, pandas and the Chinese god of wealth. This is one of those places with a menu so large that you can keep coming back and not have the same meal twice.

There are only a few seats lined up against the wall (bar style) and one table of 4. There is a piano too, and they have a sign saying they teach piano. As small as it is the menu is even smaller with maybe 10 food items. But they sell authentic Hawaiian coffees and special grains of Asian rice. Many choices of smoothies & juices as well. Them mango smoothie was a nice size and delicious! I ordered my food to go and had a very short ride so the good was still hot. We tried the Hawaiian Garlic shrimp. Small size was plenty as it had 7 shrimp over sticky rice with some mixed vegetables in a cheesy buttery sauce. It had nice flavor. Also tried was the Hawaiian Ahi Bowl ( poke) which had plenty of fresh tuna with same veggies. Again a small size was plenty. Lastly I tried the Musubi which is a slice of Spam on top of a bar of cooked sticky rice with seaweed paper around it to get it together. Hawaii has been the # consumer of Spam for many years so I had to give it a try. The salty, smokey flavor of the "meat" along with he sticky rice was a good combo, but the seaweed wrap just gave it a slight fishy taste I could do without. I would say to try U'I for a change up for when you are in the mood for Asian food.

I saw another review that you could have a wedding here and I agree. The service was nice-- we had two servers-- one sister training the other? I attempted to order a drink twice-- they had neither in stock-- before getting a Diet Coke. The big area of opportunity here is the food. My husband ordered the scallop risotto, which came... wet. It looked like rice swimming in water-- the flavor was similar, unfortunately. The cook on the scallops ranged widely in the dish. I ordered the salmon-- the cook on the salmon was nice but the quinoa was inedible, as were the veggies it was served with. Our meal was late and it felt like the food was held over from earlier preparations. We got the bread pudding, which was fine-- but the proportion of ice cream to pudding ratio was way off. The restaurant has so much potential but the food is the big problem to solve for, in my opinion.

Who knows what the employees have to deal with on a day-to-day basis to result in service this bad. We were extremely disappointed with our experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff came across as rude and unwelcoming. We asked if we could sit at one of the tables closest to the waterfall, and the response was simply, "Well, it's dirty." Mind you, about 90% of the restaurant was empty. We expected something like, "No problem, give us a moment to clean it off." We're very easygoing and would have completely understood waiting a few minutes. Instead, that interaction set the tone for the rest of the meal. We even pitched in to help the bussing staff. When our waitress finally returned, she immediately said, "Oh, you don't have menus? You forgot them. I know I already gave them to you along with your place settings." Apparently it was a set-your-own-table experience. At that point, it almost felt like we were expected to bring our own service as well. The food quality was underwhelming--We've had better charcuterie on a plane--especially considering the prices. Several ingredients that were listed as part of the dishes were missing. When we asked the busser about it, she said she would check with the kitchen, but she never returned with an answer or any follow-up. Honestly, we would have expected the server to check back regardless, but other than taking our initial order, she never returned to our table, even when we tried to wave her over. So yes no one came back after our food was served to ask how everything was, whether we needed anything, or to address the missing ingredients. Once our order was delivered, we were completely forgotten. Good service means checking on your guests, addressing concerns, and making sure they're enjoying their meal. None of that happened during our visit. When we finally approached the manager, the first response was, "Well, did you eat any of the food?" Yes--we each had a couple of bites of the kale Caesar because we were starving, despite it being served without the advertised pork belly, which was the main ingredient. We had already tried to address our concerns in real time, but no one ever followed up. We're far from people who leave negative reviews. In fact, we think this is only the second bad restaurant review we've ever written. The experience was simply that disappointing. Overall, the combination of rude service, poor management, disappointing food quality, missing ingredients, and a complete lack of follow-through made for an incredibly frustrating dining experience. Unfortunately, we can't recommend this restaurant, and we won't be returning. The view is absolutely gorgeous, but you're better off grabbing a sandwich somewhere else and enjoying it from the nearby bridge.
