Our central AC unit quit working at 4pm on a Saturday. It was during a heat wave and we began calling for service/repair. After half a dozen calls, all resulting in availability the following Tuesday, we made one more call to First Choice. We were happily surprised that Leo said he would be at our home by 4:45pm that day. We'd been meaning to call for service as our AC had been making horrible noises struggling to turn on, so it was no surprise that we needed a new compressor. Long story short, friendly, respectful, all questions answered cogently, no pressure, with an on time terrific staff, and a system tailored to our needs at a reasonable price that has our home cool and comfortable again. In order to have our flat roof redone, our roofing company (United Roofing) required that we hire someone to move the condenser (so the roofers would have access to the entire area, unimpeded), then have the condenser moved back into place. Our roofer recommend First Choice for the job, so we hired them to do the work. (Leo came to our house and provided us with a free, written, detailed estimate of what needed to be done.) Leo offered to coordinated with United Roofing, which was a big help to us! The work ended-up being done during the last week of April. First Choice showed-up shortly after United Roofing did, and did what they needed to do so the roofers to get their work done. The next day, First Choice returned and moved the condenser back into place and reconnected it to the system. We also hired them to service the condenser, as well as a second condenser we have for a separate A/C system. The work went fine, and the tech was very careful to make sure the job was done properly (which it was), and he completely and thoroughly tested the system to ensure it was working properly, once it was reconnected. Overall, we were very pleased with our experience with First Choice! The work was completed as promised and for the price as quoted. We plan to use them in the future for having both condensers checked on a yearly basis. We recommend them; since their estimates are free it makes sense to call them. Completely worthless. Called them out to service my air conditioner that clearly was leaking water and not working. He went into the attic with a flashlight, told me everything was fine....charged me and left. Two weeks later my air conditioner completely broke when the heat was at its worst. I was looking to replace my Los Angeles home's original furnace and ducts with a new system. I also wanted to move the unit from a closet next to the family room up into the attic space where it would be quieter. I got a lot of different opinions as to what I should get, how to relocate the unit, etc. Everyone I spoke with seemed to have different answers to my questions. And I always felt like I was being pushed into something rather than getting a solution that best fit my needs. Finally I contacted First Choice. Mike came out and answered all of my questions. He cleared up a lot of the confusion that the other companies' representatives had created. So I went with them. As for pricing, they were significantly lower than several of the companies I had quotes from and in line with others that I didn't think were at the quality level of First Choice. We scheduled a time for them to come out (this would be a two day project). They showed up on time as scheduled. Mike was there the whole time to make sure what we had talked about was done. His crew was very professional, knowledgeable and did a great job. The quality of the work was excellent. As this is something that I had never had done before, there were a lot of things that I didn't know to ask about. After the fact, I was surprised to find that they had used very high quality materials throughout and had put dampers in all the ducts to make for easy fine tuning of air flow down the road. These were things that they could have cut corners on and not done. That they did them even though it wasn't spelled out in the quote, in my opinion is a testament to how they view doing business. I was completely satisfied with First Choice and would recommend Mike and his team to anyone. In fact, I was so happy with their work and the results of moving the furnace up to the attic, that when my neighbors asked me about it, I recommended First Choice to them. We needed to replace a 14 year old Ruud split system. The air conditioner was only 10 SEER and using a lot of electricity. Leo came to our house the same day we called for an appointment. He explained our options and showed us several issues from the prior installation of the old system. He also suggested a different type of roof fan that he believes will reduce our electric use by 25 percent. We made the appointment to have it installed and they were able to get us on their schedule right away. Junior and Ceasar arrived early and went to work. There were several others that came by during the day and they were all top notch. There were no add on costs to us even though they had to replace the electric panel powering the air conditioner. There was a small issue (not their fault) and Leo came over late in the evening to fix it. The other owner Mike came too. These guys Gave us a fair price and no hard sell. Their guys did an excellent job and we are very happy with our purchase and the quality of their work was also excellent. We would highly recommend this company. They also do not use subcontractors. RIPP OFF!!! Couple weeks ago a guy came out, I think it was Leo. He installed a new transformer for my AC, it blew out 3 days later. At first he didn't want to reimburse me for an overpriced job he did that blew out! Called the company and told them it blew, guy came back and said I needed a new unit for $3500. Did not trouble shoot at all! I then contacted a different company who fixed my AC for a low cost and my AC is running fine, my transformer did not blow and was charged a lot less $ for the job. Frank Campos, one of the service technicians, is totally unreliable. He was in the area finishing up another job. I stopped by and asked him to stop by to see why my unit was dripping water like crazy. He spent 20 minutes, looking at the drain lines and found that the tray is slightly tilted so the water wasn't draining. Furthermore he recommended a condensation pump. Took my money ($50) for the service call and said it will apply to the total of $350 to realign the tray and install condensation pump ($50 on Amazon). Schedule me for Friday 3pm, but would bump me up to noon if possible since I had other plans. Fine, I'll wait. I keep waiting for the guy and then never shows. I called the office too, and no answer. He then texts me and says the current job is longer that he expected. Fine - sometimes things don't go as planned. I asked, "Are we still on today or not?". No answer, like he doesn't speak freaking English anymore. Avoid this guy at all costs. Save your money and find a small local guy. My old AC/Heater unit was about 30 years old and it broke last month. I interviewed 5 companies and received 5 quotes. After comparing the proposals, professionalism, knowledge level, sincerity and price, I selected First Choice Heating & Air. I checked their license online and also confirmed on Lennox's official website that they are Lennox's Premier Dealer. It is a big investment and some contractors would take advantage of the situation. I received other quotes that proposed unnecessary additional construction work or recommended the highest-end units. I'm glad that I found Mike Gerts who understands the consumer's needs and professionally advised on different options with a reasonable plan. The installation was completed within a day on 2/26/2020 with quality workmanship. The crew was professional and pleasant. They used covers to minimize dust and cleaned up afterwards. My father had recommended this company as he had used them several years ago. I had a new heater/air conditioner installed by First Choice. The Gas Company came out later that week and said everything was installed well. My only minor problem with First Choice is that they arrived 2 hours later than scheduled. It would have been nice to get a courtesy phone call so I knew they were still planning to do the work on the assigned day. I called one day ago for an appt since our unit was not functioning well and we had been without heat for days. Unit was turning on, blowing out heat sporadically followed by tepid air. I called to set up an appt since I had Friday off and was given a next day appt. A very polite and professional woman answered and gathered my information. A tech was set to come Friday (today)between 12:00 and 1:00. When no one had arrived slightly after 1PM I called just to confirm since I had to make some arrangements to have my son picked up from school. A polite woman informed me that the technician's truck was having some trouble and they were not able to come today. What could I say? I understand that things happen but a timely call would have been helpful so that I did not waste my time waiting. I am very patient and understanding but because I could not tolerate one more night of cold I called another company who sent someone right out. BTW she did offer a next morning appointment but in the interest of not wasting anymore time WITHOUT heat, I opted to call someone else who was able to send a tech right away. I am sure they are a decent co. but businesses need to understand that people don't love to spend their days off waiting only to have someone cancel and not even make a courtesy call until after the fact. My father used these guys to completely rewire and paint his house in Downey. They did a good job but the reason for the low star review is because they never finished the job! My father is physically unable to move around well...there are still quite a few face plates and plugs that haven't been installed. He has contacted them several times and no one has come back to finish this job. If they can't finish something so simple...why would they care about your project. Our air conditioner went out on the 4th of July. Had a contractor over about 5 times replacing different parts and it would work for a day. I got fed up with this after about 6 weeks. I decided it was time for a new system. I got a new air conditioner,new heating furnace,new evaporator coil, and new ducting! I got 7 different bids. I have to say Leo came out, he's very soft spoken, doesn't try to scare you or up sell you. He may mention a few things that might help you like a better filter system if you have allergies or pets. He had a no-frill contract unlike some of the others who try to impress you with their computer generated 15 page reports. I don't normally go with the least expensive bid, however in this case I really believe I received the same quality units and workers as well. We had 4 men over to the work, each one was polite and would answer any questions we had. They covered our floors and were very careful about how they treated our home. In this day and age it is very hard to find a good contractor who says and does exactly what they promise. If you need heating and air work I would recommend 1st Choice Air without a doubt. We had First Choice install our Rheem almost 15 years ago. Whenever we have a problem, they show up right away. Unfortunately, our unit seems to be a bit of a lemon. We had the motor replaced a second time yesterday. But it died Friday night and Mike got the parts on Saturday and came Sunday to fix it. Can't do better than that! I don't check around for prices, but he's the only one I've used since we got the unit. He comes once a year to check things and replace the filter. I recommend him. read more

I wanted a new HVAC system for my house in Chatsworth. I am a mechanical engineer with a background in HVAC and First Choice came highly recommended by two of my co-workers. They were significantly less expensive than another quote I had for the same system. Leo came out to give me a quote and was on time and very courteous in explaining the systems and options available. He didn't try to up sell me or bait and switch and was very straight forward. I wanted a very quiet system and that is exactly what I got. In his first quote Leo told me about a rebate Lennox had. A few days later he called me back to let me know the rebate was soon ending and didn't want me to be surprised that it was ending. Installation took about 15 hours spread over two days. There were some issues that came up during installation that needed special attention but Leo and his team took care of it without charging me extra. The team was very well mannered and hard working. I would not recommend this company to anyone. I had a furnace incorrectly installed by the owner and his team in October 2009 that stopped running in March 2011. In March Leo overcharged me to have a part replaced that was under warranty and that was not the crux of the problem. Only when pressured, he refunded part of the fee I paid him. The manufacturer of the furnace confirmed the roof vent was also improperly installed. Leo refuses to correct that unless I pay him additional money. These are just some of the unpleasant encounters I have had with Leo, the company's owner. He has proven himself to be untrustworthy. read more

So about five years ago I had a new unit placed for my second floor. Unfortunately it broke and I needed a replacement. Leo came highly recommended from my father in-law who understands construction and quality work. Prior to getting in touch with First Choice I had two other a/c repairmen come to give me quotes. He came with four guys who replaced not only the a/c unit and its components but also replaced some ducts to improve the air flow in my children's bedrooms. I called and spoke with Leo who scheduled me for an appointment for the following day between 5:00 and 6:30 pm. Well, 6:45 pm came around and not even a courtesy phone call to let me know they're running late and/or behind schedule. Called and got Leo's voice mail. Left him a message letting him know that no one had showed up and no one had even called me (out of courtesy) to let me know they're running late or whatever! Received a call from someone 17 minutes after that; didn't catch his name and honestly at this point I didn't care who was calling me. This person told me they'd be on their way to my house next. I told him not to bother coming by anymore, since he was only calling me, because I had called Leo. He apologized and I hung up. The lack of courtesy and disregard for my time says a lot to me about a business/person! So, no I do not want to do business with someone like that. NOTE TO THE OWNER OF THIS COMPANY: train your employees to have common courtesy and make that phone call that would make a difference in whether or not you get that potential customer's business! I've been very happy with the service they have provided when they installed our unit about 6 years ago, but 2 weeks ago our ac stopped working, called the next morning and they sent a guy to take a look at it. He said the motor was shot and needed to be replaced. $445 for the service. I thought the motor would be the size of a car battery, it wasn't, it was small enough to fit in the palm of his hand. I asked how much does that cost? About $85, and so you are charging me over $300 for 30 minutes of work? His answer, his 30 plus years of experience! These people are the worst kind of sellers. After spending 5 grand on a new unit for the roof, turning it on and having it freeze up after a few hours, had steam coming out of my ears. After several calls and waiting a week for them to return, and take a look, the fix was simply shut the unit off and wait a few hours for the ice to melt! What they should have done was inform me when installing the new unit, that the unit needed larger intake and out take work. It is a 3 ton unit, and they should have been replaced. l now need to have it fixed to the tune if 1600.00. Their solution was install another unit inside the house! They are rude, and filled with attitude. I would never use them. If you want someone who is trustworthy and knows what they are doing I suggest ESP HEATING AND AIR. They have saved me. Fist Choice?? Last August of 2012, it had to be the hottest day of the year and of couse my ac went out. I called a few companies and no one was able to come out until the following week. I finally got in touch with First Choice, they said that they would be able to squeeze me in the next morning but it had to be early between 5-530 am. I was happy to get the appoitment. When the tech came out he told me the bad news that my compressor went out. they quoted me price by putting in a new ac unit. At first, i was suprised at the cost of the new AC unit. but i did some research and i realized that the price was below the going rate in the industry. They did the job the same day and the rest of the summer was nice and cool. Now a couple of months later i got my first DWP bill and the guys at First Choice were right, my electrical bill did go down 40 - 45%.
