Just installed a 60" plasma on a wall, ceiling mounted Episode speakers, Sonos, and installed 2 outdoor speakers for the backyard. Connected everything through an RF remote. Couldn't be happier with the end result. Ron was 100% committed to making sure we ended up with a system that fit our needs and budget. Due to some other projects going on in the house, I had to reduce the budget for this media room. Ron was able to eliminate "non-essential" components without degrading the entire system. Ultimately, we'll go back a later time and add on as needed. It just so happens that Ron works w/our electrician that we've used over the last three years in our house (Clingerman Electrical). This was a selling point for us, as Darrell knows the ins/outs of all the electrical aspects to our house. The other selling point for us was Ron's commitment to his work. He's passionate about his job and it shows in the final result. The sky is the limit when it comes to purchasing media equipment but I could appreciate that Ron took the time to find out what we wanted and how we planned on using the media room when deciding on what equipment to buy. I just re-read Ron's outstanding Yelp reviews and confirm from my own First Reflection experience that they are accurate and not hyperbolic. Ron has an audiophile passion for his work. I concur that he is diligent, meticulous, technologically competent, a good communicator, pleasant and even-tempered. Like others my expectations were not only met but exceeded. In short, same guy, same outcome. In my case I wanted to upgrade to current technology using my mature 5 speakers and a new Hsu sub-woofer, a new Smart TV, Yamaha AV Receiver and Blue-ray player. I wanted the whole thing to be controlled by a single remote that my wife could use. I was looking for someone to wire and program the system to fully optimize the systems potential. My entertainment system was update 20 years ago and despite some internet research I was not fully prepared for the implications for updating to the 21st century. I was to learn that the new remote devise required several hours of custom programming and my "cable" system was to be converted to Ethernet. What did all this mean? Thus began my odyssey into the technological unknown. I naively purchased all my new equipment and cables prior to finding a "designer/installer". I would have benefited from talking to Ron first. There are somethings to consider before you purchase new equipment. Connecting everything is really an art and requires quality cables of appropriate length. When reviews say Ron is meticulous they are talking about what he does behind your equipment. What goes on behind your equipment can either compromise or enhance the capabilities of your equipment. I have seen other professional installations whose work looks like finger painting compared to Ron's art; he is down right compulsive and that's a good thing. I love my Yamaha but Ron is more familiar with the equally outstanding Marantz Receivers which would have presented fewer installation challenges. Nevertheless Ron proved persistent in puzzling out the less familiar Yamaha although it made me unnecessarily nervous a couple of times. I was also introduced to Sonos which is essential if you wish to take full advantage of your CD collection you import to you Computer. You also get to listen to any radio station in the World. I would be remiss not to mention the need to have a specialist convert your cable connection at the entertainment center to the previously mentioned Ethernet connection which require devices at your computer and behind your TV. The whole business is so much more than wiring component and very esoteric. If this all sounds complicated I assure you it is. I was present for the entire installation of my entertainment system and was impressed with all that went into the custom program of the highly sophisticated remote control and meticulous wiring of my components. In the end you get a remote with a touch screen with in my case 3 options; Cable TV, Blu-ray and SONOS (all my music and radio). Touch the screen once and all interrelated devices are "ON" The remaining command are no more complicated that a cable remote. It was easy enough that my wife who rarely touched our previous collection of devices was comfortable learning the new remote immediately. Most importantly the quality of sound coming from my old speakers is better than ever and beyond my expectations. The Ethernet connections is cleaner and more reliable than WiFi and produces brilliant sound and pictures. If you wish to go this final step you will need the services of a pro. I write this review to commend and recommend Ron Jones as an exceptional professional who will get maximum performance out of your system. I feel that with his craftsmanship my old speakers and new components are providing me the best sound given their capabilities. I met Ron at Valet Custom Cabinets and Closets. I was intrigued with the joint business partnership he has with them and the great work he and Jerry (at Valet) can provide people looking for both a custom cabinet and A/V consultation services. Ron was hired to tackle the programming of a RTI Pro control remote and installing Sonos into my existing home audio system. Ron as mentioned by other reviewers indulges into the complexities of macros to get the universal remote working as seemless and efficiently for your specific A/V system needs. Prior to the actual installation, Ron communicates with you to prepare most of the programming for the remote. I was extremely happy with the end product and the simplicity to navigate my A/V system for day to day functions. Also, I am so excited to be able to listen to my old CDs that have been lying around. Ron is great. He is super easy to work with, efficient, and a great communicator. We recently had him put in our 3 zone Sonos. We never felt pressured into purchasing anything...Ron is really not an up-seller. He actually takes a pretty minimal cut. We have had the Sonos in for over a month now and it works perfectly! We were a bit concerned about the installation and how all of the wireless would work with Sonos, but Ron put us at ease. He totally knows what he is doing and put in a great system for us. WE LOVE IT! I would recommend Ron to anyone considering putting in a Sonos system. I have heard about people trying to manage these types of projects and having some real challenges. We recently went through a renovation upon moving and Ron and his team were excellent and extremely helpful in getting our home network and TV set up. He worked closely with us to figure out what we needed, how many connections or access points were right for our house, and where everything should go. We, too, met Ron through our work with Jerry at Valet Organizers. We ended up with a great-looking and sounding system for our room, but there were some bumps along the way. To Ron's credit, he managed through them all and put in the extra effort required to end up with a very happy customer. Our biggest issue was the budget, particularly the wiring. Ron is extraordinarily detail-oriented, which in this type of work is a good thing, but it meant many price increases as we worked through all the details of the installation. For example, Ron suggested more expensive speakers, which we approved, and then he realized he had not included all the power conditioners, which had to be added. Many changes were small-- an extra connector, for example, that Ron realized we needed. There were, according to Ron's count, almost 30 changes, which he says is typical. We needed all of these changes, but it meant the price crept upward during the life of the project. The other problem we had with this project was the electrician. Ron has a relationship with Absolute Electrical (of San Carlos) and although Ron tried, we NEVER got an estimate from them and the work was quite a bit more expensive than Ron had guessed it would be. In addition, the electrician installed the TV's on a day that Ron wasn't there and they were too high - it took a few days and several attempts to get them to the right place - and we were left with lots of holes to patch. Through all of this, however, Ron was a champ. He is extremely pleasant and even-tempered and not once did he lose his temper or get irritated. Really, we were paying for his expertise and he is awesome at what he does. He spent a great deal of time programming our new remote so that we literally only have to use one and it works for everything. The speakers sound fabulous and we are happy with everything. To Ron's credit, he agreed that the problem with the electrician should never have happened and he would change how he works with the company to prevent such a problem in the future. To me, the indicator of success of a company is the willingness of the personnel to admit mistakes and fix them - and Ron certainly embodies that attitude. When made aware of the problem, he did not become defensive and did his best to resolve it. I'm betting that no one will have the experience with the electrician that we did - Ron will make sure of that. They say "third time's a charm", and I tend to agree. Ron was the third audio video professional to work on my theatre room system, and it's finally working the way I expected... 8 years after the first professional installed it! That's not a misprint, and it bears repeating - my system is finally working the way I expected for the first time in 8 years!! Have I upgraded equipment in that time? Sure, 3 years ago, with the same results provided by the second professional - a prominent specialty retailer that operates in the Bay Area and provides home audio video solutions. Convinced my quality equipment was not setup to it's full potential by the last professional, I started down that road of no return that many of us are forced to follow - doing it myself. Armed with multiple owner's manuals, customer support, and my trusty Masters in Computer Science diploma, I began my adventure that quickly became my nightmare. You know you're in over your head when neither the owner's manual or customer support can tell you the difference between an optical and coaxial output. Did you know that correctly setting up your receiver doesn't mean "ta-da", and you're done? No, for optimum performance, you must setup the receiver, and each component! Do you know why you should select "small" speakers rather than "large"? I thought it was based on the size of the speaker - wrong! And I still had to properly setup the plasma, cable box, Blu-ray player, 7.1 speakers and Xbox 360. I needed help. As I reflected on my investment (and a potential donation to Goodwill!), I remembered a neighbor who started an audio video business and seemed to exemplify the knowledge and expertise that earns the title "professional". Within an hour, Ron began his magic. I could already hear and see a difference in my system. When Ron was finished, I was truly appreciative, not only by the exceptional results to my system, but also the attention to detail given to each component, the cables, the connections, the cost, and documented invoice. Seriously, Ron provided an invoice that tells the whole story of what was done to my system, not just a single line item. The invoice is a work of art! Almost a year ago I contacted Ron at First Reflection AV to get some AV design guidance and advice, before installing some custom cabinets. The goal was to build a whole home audio system that included: speakers in seven rooms, two TVs, satellite radio, a 700+ CD collection, a Playstation, Nintendo Wii, two DVD players, and DirecTV. And of course the various inputs needed to operate independently in each room or "zone". Without question, this was a BIG job. Not only did it include installation, but purchasing equipment, designing the system, and minor electrical/cabling work. The best thing I ever did was to have the system designed BEFORE construction started on the custom cabinets. The second best thing I did was to hire Ron. I couldn't have asked for a better partner to help make the dream a reality. Ron was sensitive not only to my budget, but in making sure I got the best value for money. That meant giving guidance on when it made sense to spend the extra $x for one model of speakers over another, and when not to. I never felt I was being railroaded into a particular purchasing decision. I particularly appreciated the fact that I was able to source my own equipment in order to get the cheapest on the market. I didn't do it for every piece of equipment, but there were certainly some items I wanted to buy on my own. Many contractors won't let you do this but Ron was great about it. The only downside is that the electrical contractor that Ron was using at the time was an absolute scuzball, ruining 100+ year old wood floors, putting holes in walls in places we hadn't agreed, leaving food, trash and dirt all over the house, and grossly underestimating the job. The guy was a total piece of work. So much so, that if this review included the electrical work, it would barely get one star. That said, Ron bent over backwards to put things right, even though it was the subcontractor electrician who screwed up, hence the five stars. Since my job, Ron no longer uses this subcontractor. Thank God. I highly recommend Ron. If you're thinking of any kind of AV system in your home, a few pieces of advice: 1. Hire Ron. 2. Get Ron to do your design BEFORE you start building or buying anything. You'll save money in the long run. 3. If you're doing renovations or a new build, get Ron in there when the walls are open. It will save you money when it comes time for installation. Even if you're not sure of your design, you can get speaker and other cabling run. 4. You don't HAVE to use a licensed electrician for MOST of the work, depending on your design. If it's simply running speaker cable through your house, that only takes a handyman with decent skills. If you're adding circuits, doing anything on a panel, or upgrading services, that's another ball of wax that will require an electrician. 5. For your electrical components, give Ron MORE room that you think you'll need. Not only do all those electronics heat up like summer in Death Valley, but you want to give Ron plenty of room to work his magic. Ron truly cares about his work and getting it right. We hired him for a complex job with many components and he went above and beyond expectations. He did everything he could to get it right the first time, and if for some unforeseen reason, something didn't work in our system as planned, he made sure he found a way to make it work correctly. He set up a new home wifi network, a new security camera DVR system, a new wifi based radio/music system (Sonos), and several adjustments and upgrades to our existing home theater systems. He also cleaned up our home's AV wiring hub (I think they called it "the can", but we called it "the hive"). The access door couldn't even close due to the sheer amount of wiring and equipment that had been put in there by previous owners. It was intimidating to look at, but now it is minimized, organized and logical. We have been happy with all of it. Since our original experience with Ron, we have called him back for much smaller jobs twice and would not hesitate to call him back again. He is friendly and just a nice guy in general. Ron, owner and master AV expert/designer/technician of First Reflection Audio Video (FRAV), recently designed and installed a top-notch AV system in our home. Two words best describe Ron : meticulous audiophile. Here's a little background for context. We bought a ten year old house with a recessed area for an entertainment center as well as in-ceiling speakers in several rooms (although they were never used). We began working with Valet Custom Cabinets in Danville, who referred us to Ron at FRAV for the AV installation. In the end, we have a fully integrated and beautifully performing AV system in our family room as well as speakers in two additional rooms working through Sonos. Ron is not only an expert on everything audio, he is extremely passionate. This love for his work manifests itself through Ron sweating every detail from design to installation. An example - Ron installed equipment-mounted thermocouples to activate small cabinet-mounted fans if equipment is starting to overheat. Ron also worked closely with Valet Custom Cabinets to ensure that the cabinet was designed with the right dimensions and features to allow for the optimal AV system setup. It's clear that there is a lot more work involved in setting up an AV system properly than a non-expert would originally think. The best thing about Ron, though, is his down-to-earth, trustworthy, and friendly character. There are only two points for consideration - they are not necessarily cons. First, the AV design process is iterative and does take time from the customer to properly scope and decide upon. Secondly, the price to do such a project is not cheap, although I would find it hard to imagine getting such an integrated and thorough service at a meaningfully lower price. Home Theater setup can be fairly complicated these days. All I knew is that I wanted it done correctly so that my system would be fully optimized. Ron Jones, the owner of First Reflection Audio Visual came to my home to discuss setting up a new TV, A/V Receiver, Blue Ray player, and universal remote. I wanted to utilize my existing home theater and "zone 2" speakers. Ron had great suggestions on A/V equipment and provided a detailed estimate of what the project should entail. He quickly earned my confidence with his knowledge and he was amazingly responsive in answering questions and revising the scope of work as I requested. Once we had a plan, it took about a week to gather the equipment and get the installation scheduled. Ron stayed in touch and I felt fully updated along the way. I needed to refresh all of my audio and video equipment and didn't want to do it myself this time. Ron did a great job helping me select equipment and integrate the system, including cooling fans for a cabinet that used to get very hot. I now have big screens in two rooms along with all new electronics and a very flexible Sonos music system. On my main home theater setup he also did a great remote control where one button turns on and resets the system for TV, DVDs, streaming apps or Sonos. Ron is 10 stars in my book. I had a jumble of ancient equipment (15-40 years old) that I decided to upgrade to current technology. Bought a new HDTV, receiver, speakers, ordered a new cable box & had an electrician friend come over to hook everything up. Nothing worked and for 6 weeks we struggled to fix the problem. I finally went to yelp and called Rudy from Custom Home Theatres but he never showed up and never returned my frequent phone calls. I'm so glad because I found Ron and he was at my house the following morning. He spent several hours (and this was just the free consultation) going over what equipment I had and what my needs were. His knowledge and enthusiasm was a god-send. He took the time to explain several options available to get everything working at optimal level including coming over on his own time to demonstrate some of the upgrades I was interested in. I called First Reflection based on the positive reviews and was not disappointed. My dad needed someone to troubleshoot an issue with his home theater audio before he left town at the end of the week, and he was already jaded by the original contractor who did the install and did a poor job. I called a few listings but Ron got back to me promptly and was pleasant, knowledgeable and reasonably priced. He squeezed us into his schedule for a couple days later and got everything resolved perfectly and quickly so now my dad's home theater sounds the way it should. He was able to install a top quality system with invisible speakers, woofer, etc. installed in the wall and ceiling. He also recommended and consulted with Village Collections in Belmont who designed a custom cabinet to house our audio-visual equipment.. I highly recommend Ron at First Reflection AV. Ron and John were extremely efficient and provided excellent results. We have struggled with the last 2 AV companies and their ability to complete the work as they promised. Ron installed the new RTI T3x remote control w/ 3.5" color LCD touchscreen and programmed our Oticon hearing aid device to work together with our new Onkyo receiver and other home equipment. He also installed 2 new Apple TV's and programmed all of our equipment to work with the new RTI remote. Ron did not try to over sell us on products we do not need and he was very thorough and professional, which I greatly appreciated. The work was researched, analyzed and completed in a matter of a week which included the ordering of all equipment, the labor time to install and program. We were very pleased!! I agree with all the positive reviews below. Ron is truly one of a kind. He was so patient and flexible when looking through various options and costs for our outdoor rock speakers. He was very fair in his pricing. He and his team arrived on time and did excellent work installing the speakers.
