I hadn't tried any of the First Watch restaurants in a very, very long time. My only other experience was at the one near Triangle Town Center in Raleigh, and it was so bad that I was sent gift cards to cover us, and to lure us back and I gave them away. Yes, that bad. Today was better. Hostess was pleasant, it's cute inside and our waitress was wonderful. So, try to get Nicole! Loved her! Wondering WHY I even went? Well, 1st date, breakfast! The food, in MY opinion, is okay. It is not food that will have you making embarrassing sounds. It's not, for me, food I'd crave, go out of my way for, or for that matter, buy myself. First Watch took over The Melting Pot. This one's closer to where I live in South Durham and easier to get to. My doctor's office is upstairs. Breaking my lab work fasts is more fun thanks to First Watch. I often meet friends from church here too. Expect a similar menu to other locations but a smaller, more cozy dining space. Opt for the dining room with a view to the kitchen or for the brightly lit bar. I enjoy their high-tops when the natural light is bright. I can drink my Morning Meditation and enjoy a good breakfast. First time we came here with the family, and this place was buzzing with energy from the moment you opened the door. I had the breakfast skillet that you could have two people easily share, but everything was delicious. Our waiter found out we were from Wisconsin and was very personable with us, and did an amazing job serving our table, A+! The food was amazingly fresh, delicious, and generous portions. You WILL NOT leave hungry. Everything from the coffee, to the fruit, to the bread was absolutely amazing. I would recommend to call ahead to get a seat as this place was very just and always had people waiting, but they did a great job continuously seating people . It was going to be a 15 minute wait, but we were offered the choice of immediate seating at the bar which we chose. This is the first First Watch I've been to that has a bar - half of which is inside and half of which is outside. Terry, our server, was friendly, accommodating, and efficient. He had our drinks within minutes. Their coffee is very good and I love that they bring you your own personal pot (the delight of true coffee drinkers everywhere, ha). I ordered their "Bacado" which consists of bacon, avocado, Monterey Jack, topped with all natural sour cream, and served with a side of house made pico de gallo. It was excellent!! Excellent healthy food choices, exemplary service, and reasonable prices will be a major reason why I continue to support and recommend First Watch. Came here because I really wanted an eggs Benedict. It looked pretty nice, and the eggs were poached well but the hollandaise sauce was a little bland. Service was good, pretty standard. It was also darker than I expected inside, but we were seated by the window which made it brighter. Overall not a bad brunch spot. read more

Haven't been to First Watch in a while, but I am so glad that I was able to check them out on Sunday with a friend. I received my birthday reward earlier than I thought and was blessed to do a BOGO! I decided to try their Barbacoa chlaquies bowl, and my friend got their own view on a trifecta. And wow, the Barbados bowl was thick, full, and amazing--literally. It felt like an enchilada with a splash of eggs and black beans exploded in my bowl. It was so full of flavor! Wow! This was not was I was expexting from First Watch. Even my friend mentioned that he wished that he would have ordered what I did as it looked amazing and was so full! I literally have made three meals out of this!! Minus one star for the lackluster service. A lot of other people OTHER than our server served us, which is sad as she was clearly helping others. The staff at this location has been great! Very friendly and makes an effort. The menu has a wide array of brunch and breakfast staples not especially unique but there should be something for everyone in your party. Some of the menu items such as the "Million Dollar Harvest Hash" use a few ingredients you may not have at home like Mikes hot honey (honey infused with chili peppers for kick) but generally you're not getting surprised here. They do try to create a seasonal menu based on what veggies are typically in season, I say try because being a wide reaching chain it's not possible to develop a menu for every region but they hit some of the main ones such as corn, asparagus etc. During the fall they grab onto the pumpkin spice trend which I took a picture of my pumpkin spice pancake that I would rate as good (yes you get just one per order). Ambiance is warm and inviting for the most part, maybe a bit boring but for a primarily breakfast/brunch location that can be a good thing as it gives a more toned down comforting vibe. I don't review a lot of chains but there's enough locations around the triangle now that some people are trying them for the first time. You won't get "wowed" most likely but it's also not going to ruin your day and you'll get a decent meal. I will say also that their website is amazing for being able to determine the nutrition information about your specific meal. Each ingredient is itemized and given it's own nutrition info and you can see exactly what ingredients are being used to create your dish. I wish every place did this! read more

I wanted something in a particular dish and asked them to replace the meat with veggie or a different protein and I was told it's not possible. So we got a basic market veggie omelette and honestly it's probably the worst omelette I had. The veggies were raw and seemed uncooked. We've been to the Bradford location and it's always been a hit but this location is terrible. We won't be back. The two stars I am giving is solely because the food was okay. However,the service was absolutely horrible. I should've known since this location is in Durham it was going to be a mess,but I had somewhere to go afterwards in the area,so I took a chance. Tables were dirty the whole time I was there and they were telling people it was faster to eat inside,I'm assuming because they did not want to clean the tables outside,because again,they stayed dirty the entire time I was there. A server was talking about a customer negatively because she had a very valid complaint, as servers and hostesses were not efficient at all. They were a bit busy which I understand,but that can only be an excuse for a small part of the experience. You have to be completely delusional to think you should ever talk about a customer when your some of your staff should definitely be in another profession. I am typically very patient with waitstaff because I understand they are running around trying to do a lot but that was complete ass. I had terrible customer service with the GM (Kyle) of the store. He is unstable and totally not mentally capable of servicing the city limits Durham, NC community population. I had 3 burned omelets prepared at closing and was unable to return due to having to get my aunt to the airport. I kept all three and the receipt to return on Monday, 10/27/25. I called to speak with a MOD and was on hold for 10 minutes. My fiancé called from his line and got a manager asap. The manager was impatient, irritated and insensitive to our experience. He was laser focused on the fact that we did not call the store on Sunday because they were there until 6pm. I advised, when the internet says the store closes at 2:30pm what would make me think that they will answer the phones after returning from RDU airport. Because he was so insensitive about our hold time and accused us of lying, he kept posturing a position of being attacked. We are both Directors for major companies and explained, sharing our experience is not an attack it is context. He wanted to be the victim with the phone inquiry when we are the victims of paying for food we did not open nor eat and have the receipt. He stated to my fiancé that since we did not call him back on the same day, we would have to send an email for a refund. I went to the store to place an order around 2pm. The location was out of pumpkin pancakes, so we opted to just have 3 omelets made. The egg white omelets were super thin, skimpy and burned as if they did not have enough egg whites to make two full omelets and the regular omelet was burned and torn apart. We saved the product so the MOD could share what the order looked like with the kitchen for training purposes if necessary. Instead of Kyle saying, thank you being a loyal customer by eating here Saturday and attempted to come back on Sunday, please return the food so we may remake it for you, he goes into defense mode justification mode and became super emotional and unstable in his posture and selection of words. After my fiancé shared, I was reaching out to corporate, Kyle then says he can do some store bucks to use as a refund immediately, which he never messaged from the beginning. The caveat is we only wanted to reorder the food we did not eat. Had Kyle who was in his feelings chosen to listen; be resolution-minded and competent leader would have led with would you like to use these bucks to replace the meal or just get the bucks to use elsewhere? He was beyond dismissive and presented himself as if he did not want to be given an issue to resolve and lead the customer to a resolution. He never said, what may I do to make this right, which is standard restaurant 101 rebound language. His end goal was to be argumentative, justified, and treat us as if this was our fault for not calling the restaurant after late closing hours, we were unaware they were going to answer. We are major First Watch supporters and absolutely love your model and food. We probably have spent over $1300.00 a year on First Watch dine in or online orders. It is unsettling to have the face of your brand use our inquiry to combust after having other issues over the weekend, we had nothing to do with. As an organization, you all can do much better than Kyle as the leader of this restaurant. Durham has 3 First Watch locations and Raleigh has multiple; there is not one Store manager who has the uninviting posture of Kyle as it relates to servicing the needs of the patrons. We are bewildered at this experience, and it does sting because we had to sit on the line explaining to him our loyalty and simply request for his understanding. Kyle stressed us out with his energy and on my day off with a taste for some yummy First Watch, it was not an ideal experience. We do not support restaurants, grocery stores or stores that have difficult return policies or customer service management issues. We will pay double the price to have peace when coming to an appointed manager for resolution with an issue. Kyle is not it at all. I regret there are probably more concerns sent in about him than compliments. I am going to share this on google reviews and other platforms because the community must know in order to dine at his location, one must follow his preferences which is accept kitchen's end product (right, wrong or indifferent), do not escalate a concern to him without a submissive posture of mutual accountability for something and display humility of being able to afford to eat at the Kings Table of First Watch! Kyle does not need to work with people in the restaurant industry. Kyle needs to either work independently, unloading trucks to balance the mental energy of having to respond to random requests or find another industry where he may feel comfortable being insulated from various issues and consumers. read more

Yet again second time within about a two week span we came to this first watch, yet again another issue. I ordered the chorizo omelette with potatoes this morning, and as you can see in the photo below the potatoes are burnt. The potatoes were so hard I could hammer a nail into a wall. My husband's potatoes, which you probably can't see that well in the photo was damn near mush. The last time we done and order was takeout and they burnt my cornbread which I posted on my Google review. We literally come to this location quite often going forward. I do not think will come back. Will go to another location. I just don't get how the food can be so inconsistent on a regular basis. The only thing that was decent at this restaurant was the service. The waitress was extremely nice. However, when we did enter the first watch the person sitting us, didn't say anything at all, and walked away so quickly, and when I checked out, it was so inconsistent and rude they didn't speak as well . The service and the food was 5 stars but the yelling and the rudeness coming from the general manager Butler made the experience unbearable. I understand that it was a busy Sunday afternoon but there is no reason to be rude to your staff in front of the customers and to go into the open kitchen and scream at them where everyone could hear. I need to sing the praises of First Watch! I am the VP of the PTA at Rogers-Herr Middle School. We operate on a very small budget. I reached out to this location and asked if they'd be willing to help us celebrate our educators within our budget. Michael went above and beyond! He supplied an entire breakfast for the staff, with enough leftovers that they could also have lunch for a price that was below our budget! He delivered the food and set it up for us. The food was fresh and delicious and our educators raved about it! We created a special and magical meal on a shoestring budget. Michael is an avid supporter of education and truly cares about Durham's educators. I cannot say enough good things about our experience! We've established a meaningful relationship with this community partner and plan to work with them for years to come.
