Tasty and guilt free! We decided to try the place out on a Saturday morning. Whoops.. bad decision. We obviously had no idea how popular this place is! The waiting area only has 8 seats, you can fix up a cup of coffee with a wide selection of creamers and sugars during the ~30 minute wait at 11:15am. I seriously had a hard time ordering because everything on the menu looks so tempting. There's a smaller seasonal menu that has a breakfast, brunch, and lunch entree, along with fresh in-house juices. We ordered the smoked salmon frittata, hash skillet (farmhouse), and the seasonal item pot roast hash. The hash was cooked as expected and they did not skimp out on avocado! The toast was thick, chewy, and crunchy paired with strawberry jam. We were, however, disappointed with the frittata. It was very flat and it did not have a fluffy shape - in fact it had no shape at all.. it seemed like scrambled egg whites. The meal was very small, with a slim piece of ciabatta bread. Despite how busy it was, we had a very friendly and attentive server. Overall, most of the food was good and the setting was great. The meals are somewhat pricy for the small portion sizes, but likely because of the fresh/healthy ingredients. Not amazing, but still pretty good. read more

Really impressed with my first visit to First Watch. I was excited to hear this place was opening up close to home. I'm always looking for a healthy lunch close to the house where I can also get some work done. And they have free wifi. I was thinking it was a fast casual type restaurant but you actually sit down and are waited on. They serve breakfast all day and have great lunch options as well, everything from salads, sandwiches, soups, and more. You also have a "choose two option" where you can mix and match for under $10. It seems like they always offer specials and keep it seasonal as well. This visit they had an entire specials menu with all things butternut squash yum. I had a tough time deciding but went ahead and ordered the house-made veggie burger, the waitress confirmed that it was a good choice so that made me feel even better. The veggie burger came out in about ten minutes or so and was perfect. The veggie burger was very tasty and served on a nice wheat bun with a side green salad lightly dressed. Not sure of the sauce that was served on the side of the veggie burger but it was also yummy and I was happy to have it served up on the side like that. This is a solid lunch spot and I can't wait to get back and try some of the breakfast items. If you're over in the Pleasant Valley area off of Glenwood ave. definitely check this new spot out. read more

We were looking for a relatively quick brunch option on a Sunday and I remembered that this First Watch location opened not too long ago. We arrived around noon and had a 10 minute wait for the 2 of us. They had about 2-3 parties ahead of us but everyone was seated pretty quickly. I love the menu and the decor inside! The chalkboards everywhere with decorated word art added a nice sunny feel to the place. It was wonderful to see so many creative and healthy breakfast and brunch items on their menu. Eventually I settled on the "Tri-fecta" which was your staple menu selection of 2 eggs, choice of Belgian waffle or pancake, choice of turkey sausage, sausage link or turkey bacon. I also got a side of potatoes (yikes $2.99 for side). My friend ordered their kale power juice, and eggs Benedict. Our food came out very quickly which I was impressed with given the amount of people in the place. Everything was cooked perfectly--it's pretty hard to mess up scrambled eggs and sausage. Writing this review reminded me that they did get me the wrong sausage item but I was so hungry I didn't care. The waffle was perfectly crispy on the outside. The weird part was the berry compote that came with it: it was salty. A really weird flavor that I did not enjoy....not sure if it was seasoned incorrectly. I tried some of the juice as well: you couldn't taste any of the ingredients except for apple and the sweetness of the juice. It was actually a little over sweet for a kale juice. The eggs Benedict were delicious! I loved the flavor of the creamy hollandaise sauce. Overall it had everything I look for in a restaurant (minus some quirks): good and fast service and food. This place has only been open about 2 months now so I will give them some grace on their wait staff. The food comes to your table fresh and fast it's just that you don't see your waitress after that. The place is clean -sterile feeling w/a touch of modern. The menu is not your typical menu. Yes you and get your "Classic" bacon-eggs-toast, but then it gets a little more interesting or should I say grownup. The food is Good. Just a quick review to say that we were very impressed by First Watch. The food was prepared well, and the wait staff were friendly, attentive, and really great (Side note: I didn't expect wait staff at all...I'd expected a go-get-your-food-on-a-tray place, so a full wait staff was a pleasant surprise...a business willing to employ people beyond a basic kitchen crew makes me want to give them my business). I don't tend to eat out for breakfast...expecially in this area where pretty much everything is fast food and not generally worth paying for (I can scramble my own eggs, thanks). But First Watch has a really interesting menu, and they're nice people, and a welcome change to the options on Glenwood Ave. We'll be back for sure. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with my experience at First Watch. I thought initially this was a quick serve restaurant but it is full service restaurant. The service was good and wait staff was very attentive. My server frequently check on my table and others without being intrusive. First Watch has free Wi Fi and they have newspapers available for reading. I have two Gigantic Chocolate Chip Multigrain pancakes and bacon. They give you a pot of coffee when you get there. This location much like the others I have been to is fantastic! Great food, large menu selection, good service and is usually pretty quick even when there is a line! They have lots of options even for the pickier eaters and they cater to several diets and/or restrictions. I've had a few different things on their menu and everything I have had is delicious! Price range is good too and they are good for small or large groups! read more

This is a nice breakfast place. Frankly my main complaint is in this brand-new building, their old-timey ceiling lamps are too low. I'm 6'3" and have to duck to walk to the bathroom? That is not normal for a restaurant. It's also a little bit cramped, by which I mean lots of tables close together. But it's nice to have a carafe of both water and coffee. I wasn't a big fan of the coffee, but maybe I'll try it again. The egg chikichanga was pretty interesting and good. I could actually have used it to be a little bigger. It certainly was different from what I expected. It's sort of like a burrito made from a thin omelet instead of a tortilla. Eaten with a knife and fork, of course. The staff was really brusque, but so am I, so maybe that's why. read more

We have been going to this location for over 4 years. It not only has consistently delicious food but a truly exceptional staff. We love everyone there and are treated with first class customer service. Sherry is one of our long standing favorites. She always, always has a smile and a positive attitude. First Watch Glenwood has done a truly amazing job finding the best people in Raleigh besides making sure they feed you truly great food. Full disclosure: First Watch sent me a gift card after my first review in apology for my initial experience and so I could try them again. I took along my adult daughter this time. I won't go into the full details but instead point out the major differences. EVERYTHING was much smoother this time. Nothing was out of stock that I could spot (including the crayons for the children's menus!) and everyone seemed much less rushed. The manager actually had time to circulate and keep an eye on the front house instead of doing triple duty back on the grill. Our drinks were filled and refilled promptly and we didn't get the impression that they were too busy to take care of us well. A marked change! The food was a several notches above last time. The toast wasn't stale and the food cooked per our order. This may sound like faint praise but it's noteworthy considering our last experience! This is a key to a good restaurant and they got it right this time. My daughter has been back on her own several times since then after our visit and enjoys it greatly. I must point out that three stars is NOT a bad review from me. I enjoyed my meal but they are not on my short list of restaurants I visit often. For those who read my other review I can say that First Watch is worth a second look! read more

First watch is the dining experience we all want! The food is fresh, hot, and delicious! The service was amazing. Our server was extremely fast and apologetic when my wife received toast that was not Gluten Free. He quickly removed and replaced the toast with the gluten free option they provide. My third time visiting this chain, but my first time visiting this location. I like the covered patio area and the outside waiting area, but you have to walk on pebbles, not a fan of that feature. Our wait wasn't long for a Sunday morning. Our waitress was Ashley, she was pleasant, patient and polite. She listened to our requests and wasn't aggressive as some servers can be. Our food came out as requested minus the missing toast, which we informed Ashley about and she corrected the mistake. We'd probably visit this location again. read more
