Two days in a row I've gone to layered croissant. The layers are on point and it was fascinating to watch the bakers use a machine to roll out the layers. I tried the passionfruit mango cruffin and the brown butter crookie. Both were spot on with their flavors. The passionfruit cream was especially noteworthy for being packed with flavor and yet not too sweet. The layers of pasty were perfection. There's one spot to order, though they do a brisk takeout business. Once ordered, items come out quickly. There is some seating, and if you order to stay, then they'll bring your items to the table. Ohhh, I have been sleeping on this place. No longer. Visited in September 2024 and tried pretty much the whole menu of pastries: + LKA + raspberry pistachio + butterscotch Cruffin + Plum financier + Ham & cheese + Boston cream donut + Brown butter crookie + Classic croissant + Pain au chocolat Standouts were the raspberry pistachio and ham & cheese. Also loved the filling in the financier, and the brown butter cookie was top notch. Cruffin was another highlight. Iced coffee was alright. Will get the iced purple matcha next time. This bakery is definitely born from the Dominique Ansel/Supermoon Bakehouse era, and they are executing very well. (I've had some baaaad knockoff cruffins/cronuts/croissant hybrids, but this place is killing it.) read more

I've been here multiple times now and it always treats me right. The flavors are so creative and exciting, you'll always want to come back the next month to try the new ones. The brown butter cookie croissant was the only one we got that's on the regular menu, and you can't go wrong with it. Out of the October flavors I got to try, the great pumpkin was my favorite. I was excited about the pumpkin cream in the middle but found it to be a little lacking. The chai glaze brought everything back though. The service is good, and I love the atmosphere here. It is a little small so be prepared to have to take your treats to go. They also have a nice coffee and tea menu! I'd also like to point out that if there's a specific flavor you want, try to get there early. I went around 11:30 and they were sold out of half their items. read more

Super cute. Croissant/coffee shop! I stopped by here on the way out of Raleigh this weekend after seeing it on Instagram. I picked up a couple ham & Gruyère croissants to go. they had some really tempting specials (s'mores, banana etc) but I stuck with a classic option. wish I had been able to stay and eat them fresh but I was a little pressed for time. Service was great- only waited a few mins for them to heat up the order before I was out on the road. Flavor wise, they were tasty and fresh and so perfectly flaky. I do think the filling could have been a bit more robust, but overall they delivered. A bit pricy (after tax/tip, it came out to about $15), worth the splurge/to try but this probably wouldn't be a daily go to for me. Still recommend crossing it off the list though read more

Layered Croissanterie is one of my favorite places in the Triangle to get a pastry. The inside, though small, is stylish and always clean. Also, the serving staff has always been kind and attentive when we've visited. The highlight is, of course, the croissants. They have a great selection that is consistent between months, in addition to a rotating monthly menu of creative flavors, with fun themes. I've tried both the regular and the special flavored croissants. Neither will disappoint, but my personal recommendation is to try the special flavors. I think they do a great job on them and the fillings are always delicious. As an example, this month's croissants were video game themed. I had a Mario-shino Croissant Muffin, with a creamy cherry filling and a cookie like exterior. It was one of my favorites so far. I'm not much on pastries but when we were visiting our daughter in Raleigh, this place was on her list to check out so off we went! Easy to find. Parking could be an issue. There is a small lot and some street parking but don't be surprised if you have to walk a bit but it is so worth it. Very bright and clean on the inside. A few small tables and chairs. You order at the counter. They have a display of croissants that are available. They are removed one by one as each one sells out. For the best selection, go in the morning. We went about 1pm and there were out of a few. They close at 2pm. I've had croissants from grocery stores and local bakeries but nothing could prepare me for this place. They take croissants to a new level. We each got different ones to sample. I took a pic of the bill to show which ones. The lamination on these things is crazy! So crunchy on the outside and flaky on the inside with a rich buttery flavor that only real Butter can provide. The flavors and textures were wonderful. Not cheap as 3 flavored croissants and two coffee drinks were $29 but this was a special treat. It's worth the experience of going here. The staff was friendly and efficient. Lots of conversation going on at the small tables. I'm really glad we went. I'm relatively cheap by natured but I don't mind paying for quality food. This was quality. While recently visiting Raleigh, I stumbled across this amazing place while searching for something different to try out. I picked up a couple of crossaints and ate them hours later. They were impeccable! In fact, they were sooo good that I returned the next morning and ordered the same ones again, 3 new ones, and a tshirt. Staff was friendly and helpful when asking questions. It is a small shop and they can get pretty busy but I was able to find a seat in there to enjoy my egg danish. The egg danish was served nice and warm w/a flaky crust to soak in all of the goodness! The Knafel pinwheel reminded me of baklava and was a repeat purchase the next day since it was so good! The savory Popeye crossaint was filled with spinach and gruyer cheese in a creamy type sauce. It was another home run for me. The strawberry guava jam filled cruffin hit the sweet spot perfectly for me. It wasn't overly sweet, but just the right amount to complement the flakiness and the lime cream cheese on top was the perfect touch! Last but not least, the brown butter crookie is basically a chocolate crossaint w/cookie dough in the center, which complimented the crossiant amazingly well. The only thing that was a bummer was them not having decaf coffee nor sugar free syrup options. Not nearly enough for me to remove a star over. I'm glad that I live several hours away because this place would for sure help me find the extra weight that I lost years ago. Lol. They are closed Mondays and Tuesdays and close at 2 pm the days they are open. So get in early! read more

If you're looking for buttery, flaky pastries, Layered Croissanterie is the ticket. Beyond classic croissants and pain au chocolat are seasonally-inspired treats, such as sweet potato + bruleed marshmallow and pumpkin-filled donuts. Personally, I prefer a softer croissant, and the sweet potato croissant was pretty crunchy on the outside - possibly from high heat action when toasting the marshmallow. We live in Winston so driving 1.5 hours there and 1.5 hours back is worth every penny when we order ahead: it's all about the order the night before! We get those goodies and either eat there and bring them home. This months flavors were fantastic: Frankencube, a passion fruit curd filled cube of buttery croissant layers (could have been more tart but that is a me thing), LKA, a favorite of mine with the sugary buttery goodness, Wednesday Cruffin, the best black current tart and sweet filling, topped with white chocolate whipped cream, Spell on you, an ube whipped and ube cookie delight, and the Carrie Donut, a perfect bite with soft dough and smooth cream. Absolutely mouthwatering croissants. We are staying in the local area and I deem this an absolute must stop. The passion fruit croissant is so fresh and fruitful. My partners favorite was the browned butter. Very sweet but partnered well with a nice cup of coffee. The almonds had filling through the entire croissant leaving you satisfied to the max. I absolutely loved Layered Croissanterie. Their pastries rotate monthly, really celebrating the seasons. I had their seasonal pumpkin crud in and the twice baked almond croissant. Both were perfectly flaky and had great flavor. I really enjoyed the inside. You are able to see a display of the pastries and also see them being made. Awesome and inventive pastries, and love that they were doing pickup options around the holidays and had a lot of great options. We tried a gingerbread-stuffed croissaint cup, croissaint twist with choco hazelnut mousse and orange pearls, and a cruffin with coquito cream and rum, and standard chocolate croissant. These were extremely well-made and high quality, and worth the extra price point. The gingerbread croissant cup had a delightful gingerbread cookie atop an ultra buttery croissaint exterior. The inside was unexpectedly a moist and bouncy gingerbread cake that nailed the perfect, warming spices and wasn't overly sweet. The croissant twist was another favorite - the layers of flavors from the rich chocolate mousse, light touch of hazelnut, and explosion of nuanced orange flavors from the pearls was excellent. And like our other orders, the pastry was extremely fresh and flaky. The cruffin with coquito cream was excellent and I wasn't expecting the hit of booziness. It was almost too much, but that might just be our taste buds. For those who love a little alcohol in their desserts, this could be perefect. Finally, chocolate croissant was in the classic French style and excellent in all the ways a pain au chocolat should be. The soft, buttery layers were not too crispy and crunchy, and the chocolate batons were rich and dark. A decent amount of butteriness in the pastry itself, without being too much. Overall, this is one of the best viennoiseries in the RTP area in our opinion. We've tried a couple of artisanal places, and not only are they good at putting their own fun spin on classics but do the classics right too. read more

The hazelnut chocolate orange marmalade one had good orange flavor but I would have preferred a less sweet chocolate coating and more hazelnuts The spinach popeye one was really good - not too cheesy and the crispy cheese on top was a surprise. But i think a bit more salt or spice in the actually filling would have made it a lot better read more

Hands down the best laminated pastry I've ever had. This is a must try for anyone who enjoys pastry. The ham and Gruyère croissant was the perfect balance of salty and flaky. The cafe itself is fine. I was in the mood for croissant did a Google search and decided to head to Layered... The Space is really cute and clean. I love the see through glass to watch the chefs at work. I decided to get the Sangria Twist. It's a croissant topped with a rose, strawberry and Black currant jam... I didn't realize it wouldn't be warm and I couldn't get it warmed because of the topping but it was yummy. I'll definitely visit again and make sure I can get a croissant that can be warmed or just finished. I also had a classic vanilla latte which did the job. All in all a cute spot that's a little hidden but for a slow Sunday morning, worth the trip. read more

This place sat in my list for too long, and I finally am sitting in the bakery myself. Very Instagram worthy exterior and interior design. I ordered garlic parm pretzel with purple matcha (with oat milk unsweetened). Feeling like trying something new, I didn't go for my favorite croissant, this garlic parm pretzel is not bad either. It has the crunchiness with the buttered layers, garlic flavor is not too strong, so even if there's a rendez vous afterwards, you should be fine the purple matcha doesn't have heavy matcha flavor, you can taste the purple yam (Ube) and of course, the oat milk. Service is good too, not overly nice but just right. The only thing is that there's only limited street parking, but there seems to have plenty of that. read more

This place has some really good croissants and unique ones that rotate monthly. I have always walked in and ordered, but sometimes they can sell out of specific items even early in the day. I love trying different croissants, but I do think they are overpriced for the size and what you get. It's definitely a place for croissants with limited coffee options. I've gotten an iced mocha from them that's good, but unfortunately they use paper straws. There are better options out there as alternatives to paper straws like compostable ones that don't disintegrate over time. The space is small with only a few tables, so you may or may not get a seat to eat inside. read more

Fantastic find! Very evident that the pâtissière is highly trained. Beautiful croissants and delightful baked goods done quite well. Coffee drinks on point as well served in an efficient and friendly manner. This place is managed very well and should not disappoint. We ordered 3 beverages and 5 baked goods to give good measure. The only issue I had some reservation with was the breakfast hash croissant and ham and cheese sandwich served at room temp would have been much better warmed up. Maybe this done on a request basis... but we will definitely be back and will ask for heated items to eat in. read more

Since Layered Croissanterie opened last Summer I've been in countless times. Each time I visit I'm just as impressed as the last time. When my mom travels in from RI, this is always our first breakfast stop. Their egg danish is insanely good. Like insane! The caramelized onions, with the egg, seasoning, and all that flakiness. Yum! My mom always goes for the everything danish. I also always try to head in to try out their seasonal offering since those are just as impressive. The croissant they had for Valentine's Day was one of the most memorable I've had. The brown butter cookie one is also a favorite. To be honest I haven't had one that I didn't like!! With social distancing, it is still a great time to support them. I ordered through the app linked on their Instagram for curbside pickup. It was so easy! All I had to do was pull up, click a button on the app to let them know I was there, and bam they walked right out and handed me my croissants through the window. read more

Don't make the mistake that I did... which was drive right past it, park on the side of the building, almost tug on every door to the building, then realized that the place was right off the Main Street. The concept is really neat. If you love pastries, then this is your spot! They have sweet pastries, tarty pastries, meat pastries and more. I grabbed two different pastries and I can't remember the names of them but I do know I grabbed the 'everything' pastry and it was awesome. The decor is pretty cool. They have a glass wall up so you can see straight through the kitchen. I love spots that do that. They have nothing to hide.
