New restaurant? Great! I have eaten at almost every single restaurant from Henrico to Richmond and beyond. I don't typically write reviews because A. I am busy, and B. I usually enjoy my food. This is not the case today. My mother and I came on March 3, 2019, at approximately 9:20 A.M. We were told for a party of 2 that there would be a 30-40 minute wait, no problem! We finally get a table after 40 mins, and everything is smooth so far, coffee, water, cocktails, all great! Eventually we place our order for food...and then, we wait. 10 mins, 20 mins, 30 mins, 40 mins, 50 mins...finally food! Waitress NEVER checked in on us, nor said they were experiencing longer than usual wait times, or offered us something to keep us occupied...fruit, muffins, nothing. Food came, looked decent. Toast cold and like a brick. Sausage microwaved. Eggs mediocre. French toast tasted like white bread. Nothing was good at all. Bill was 40 for two people, not worth it. Here is the best part, after paying our bill the lady at the register asked, "How was your experience?", and I replied that the food and service were both terrible. She said, and I quote, "That's too bad". Well, you know what is truly too bad? After we left we told a party of 10 in the parking lot that the restaurant was absolutely terrible, and they left, and now I write this review. Too bad. read more

Went here for breakfast/brunch one morning on a Saturday, was immediately seated and greeted by a very friendly host. The menu is awesome with lots of options to choose from and as a vegetarian and I was able to find plenty of choices. I ended up going with one of the fall specials which was some sort of egg scramble with mushrooms and truffle and it was DELICIOUS. The portion was huge and I couldn't even finish it all. My husband also got a dish that he really enjoyed and could barely finish. Definitely a warm and friendly place with some darn good cooking. read more

When I heard First Watch opened in Richmond I was super excited! We ended up going on a Thursday during lunch time. It was pretty crowded when we got there but, they still had open seating. After waiting for a while, we sat down. The service was ok but, that did make up for the food! The space is also super cute and very clean, who doesn't love that? I got the smoked salmon frittata, it was very good and it the portion was big! I can't wait to return and try something else! Could not be more disappointed! I never write Yelp reviews but was compelled due to the wait time. Wait was 75-90 minutes for walk ins. Priority is for people who schedule with the app, which we did not know. However, at one point it was only us and a few other people waiting for a table in the waiting area - the staff were calling out names of people not there who had scheduled on the app. We left after waiting 30 minutes - still had 12 people waiting ahead of us and a 60 minute wait time. The food may be delicious, but reserving a table with an app taking precedence over people physically in the building waiting for a table is poor management. My review for First Watch could increase if this is managed more appropriately, but at this time I will not recommend this place to anyone! We went to the Daily down the street and had a 15 minute wait - certainly First Watch can improve. read more

Visited on a Sunday about 1 week after opening. Packed as expected and they handled logistics well. Took about 50 minutes to get seated (party of 3) - again very expected. I felt like the quality of the food didn't justify the price. I ordered once of their juices (Orange, ginger etc) and it was served over a glass full of ice which quickly diluted the drink. We had 2 omelettes at the table. The Mexican style with chorizo / chiles and the ham / gruyere. The Mexican style barely had any chorizo and was bland as can be. The ham / gruyere was served almost like a sandwich - folded in half and overstuffed right in the middle with ham and cheese. Seemed like a lazy way to make an omelette and the supposedly cage free eggs were far from the star. At $11-12 or so, I expect a lot better. The bread they serve with omelettes is heavy and dense but fresh and good with the jam it comes with. Can't imagine eating it without butter or jam. The salad option is an interesting choice (and bland in its own right). My son ordered choc chip pancakes, a side of bacon and a choc milk. That combination set me back about $18. The bacon that they sell as a signature was average and not with the almost $5 cost for a small plate. Ridiculous. Unique addition to the area but not sure I will be overly compelled to return. Almost $60 including tip for 3 people and barely average food just isn't worth the trip and the wait. read more

Food is usually good but can be hit or miss. The service is incredibly slow even when they aren't busy - it takes a long time to even get water or coffee refilled. When carrying out, orders are never ready when they are projected because the restaurant prioritizes in-person orders. I understand this, but when they are busy (such as on Mother's Day or Father's Day), they should suspend online ordering. It shouldn't take 2 hours to make some pancakes and an omelet. Honestly, the food and service at Boychik's down the street is better; even when they are busy on holidays, I've never waited more than 30 minutes for an order. ETA: After picking up my order, it wasn't even correct. My Italian frittata didn't even have the dressed greens with it. read more

Attended the soft opening of First Watch today and everything from the greeting to the food was amazing! Started off with some coffee and the kale tonic. The kale tonic was crazy good...who knew healthy could taste so good! I forget the name of the hash Bowl I got but that too was so yummy! And the million dollar bacon is a MUST for any bacon lover! To top all that off all proceeds from today are going to the Children's Hospital of Richmond! I will definitely be a repeat customer! read more

Excellent brunch! My husband and I got the chickichanga and smoked salmon Benedict. Both were delicious! I would highly recommend the chickichanga if you haven't tried it. It's a must! I apologize for the pictures of the half eaten food. I normally take a photo before we eat but after waiting an hour to be seated then another half hour for food, we where hungry. The bacon was great and came in our bloody Mary's which was a bonus, my daughter liked her chocolate chip pancakes, my husband wasn't crazy about the avocado on his eggs Benedict BLT, my eggs where good and i loved my waffle which was like fried bread dough. Took my mother here for Mother's Day. I expected it to be very crowded therefore I called a couple of days beforehand and spoke with one of the hostesses. She informed me that I was not able to make a reservation, but if I used the First Watch app I would be able to "get in line" before I even left the house. I downloaded the app and place myself on the waiting list. The app kept me updated and I chose to arrive at the restaurant about 10 minutes before I expected to be seated. Was so excited to try this place based on the reviews. Myself and my 16 year old daughter went on a Sunday midmorning. We had researched the menu before coming, so knew exactly what we wanted. Love love the atmosphere, however, they really need to turn on the A/C, quite hot and stuffy, but maybe it's my age (54). The waiter was upbeat, attentive, and so very helpful. Ordered the fresh cold squeezed orange juice to start, yummy, cold and pulpy just how I like it. If you don't like pulp, you don't want this juice. My daughter had nothing to brag about, a coke :). Breakfast was classic eggs benedict, homestyle potato's, million dollar bacon, and avocado toast. Lets start with the benedict. I so want to give a good review, but it failed significantly. The eggs were not poached, they were hard boiled, that alone will ruin classic eggs benedict. The hollandaise sauce should have been called "lemon sauce". I love hollandaise, but the flavor of lemon was so overwhelming it ruined the entire dish. However, I have to say there was so much ham on the dish that's all you could see. The homestyle potato's were nothing to write home about. Really no flavor. The avocado toast my daughter said was "really good, just too much avocado". The million dollar bacon was yummy. It would be even better with a little more cayenne to break up the sweet of the maple syrup. Would I go again, yes. I think one bad experience does not make a restaurant. You have to remember, it was a Sunday midmorning and very busy. I think my overall opinion would have been changed if the darn eggs would have been poached. read more

The food is impeccable. The flavor feels natural, mature, full of nuance. The portion size is perfect, it is sating but not so large that it's unhealthy. The ambiance was unimpressive, the lighting seemed wrong, the noise level was unmitigated by the design. Restaurants need to consider ways to diffuse sound. The service was slow, the waitress was awkward, and the hostess seemed a little checked out. We requested an indoor seat but they led us outside. This would've been fine if it were warmer. I'll likely give it another shot at some point due to the food, but I'd rather not reward the negatives. read more

I had a grilled ham and cheese - no eggs - and coffee and with tip it was just shy of $17. I watched many leave large amounts of food on their plates. My sandwich could have fed three. Cut the portion size and adjust prices. You will cut back food costs and waste. It has potential. But I can't really afford $17 dollars for grilled cheese at breakfast. Most dishes are around $10.50 plus. That is for two eggs, bacon, toast and potatos. No coffee. A bowl of oatmeal is $8. So a bowl of oatmeal, with coffee is 10.79. $13 with tip. I don't understand the hype about this place. A few items are ok at best. The AM Superfoods Bowl is alright, but it's $11+ for some fruit and chia pudding. The to-go portion is even smaller, and they've forgotten the toast on a couple occasions, too. I tried the French toast today, and it's the reason I won't be going back again. It smells good, but it was STALE. And not just a little bit, either. It was not soft at all, almost had a rubbery consistency, and there was barely any egg wash on it. The syrup was like water too. I threw it right in the garbage where it belongs. They ask for a tip so they can leave your stuff on a shelf up front and not even interact with you. Met my daughter here for lunch today, when we got there it wasn't very busy. After being seated and asking what we wanted to drink, water, it took at least 15+ minutes to get water. We ordered food when the waiter brought the water, 20ish minutes later the waiter delivered food to the table next to use, who was already seated when we got there, so I thought we are next to get our food. After delivering the other tables food the waiter said that they were OUT of Açaí and my daughter needed to order something different. At this point I knew my food was most likely ready and sitting under a heat lamp. 15+ minutes later my food showed up, dried out from sitting as expected, my daughters food didn't show up until a few minutes later. My food was luke warm and not great, my daughters food was thankfully fresh and good. After looking around the restaurant I think I counted three waiters. Our waiter was taking care of 6+ tables and part of the bar so it was obvious to me why myself and other tables were receiving bad service. This was my second and last time eating at First Watch. With so many other options in Short Pump, I'm surprised this place is still open. read more

Saturday morning, jumped on Yelp to find brunch type restaurants since it was already 10 am. First Watch had Salmon to offer. It's not easy when your wife doesn't do eggs, meat, or cheese to find somewhere accommodating. When we arrived, there was a line, so I called while in the parking lot. They explained the best way was to download their app and get on the wait list. I told them I was outside and would prefer to get on the list in person. We went inside. It's an open layout so it was kind of loud. We approached the Hostess. We were told 20-40 minute wait but it might be sooner. So we waited. 40 minutes passed and I went to check on the situation. I overheard the hostess say that people who use the app; once they check, will jump to the top of the list. When I asked about our seating time, I was told another 20 minutes. While waiting I downloaded the app and checked it out. It provided the wait time and the window when I should check in. I wish I had known this! Another 20 minutes passed and the hostess-Jay, sat us. I have to give credit to Jay. This place was non-stop with customers checking in. She stayed calm as hungry customers would lurk around her. Our server, Kristi came right over and took our drink order. She came back within 5 minutes with our order, a glass of champagne and a Million Dollar Bloody Mary-it was only $8, but that's what it's named. I ordered the elevated Egg Sandwich, comes with fried potatoes! While the wife requested the Salmon Benedict-minus the Benedict (substituted avocado). Kristi was super nice about it. The restaurant was pretty busy, so I took down the time. 8.5 minutes later our food arrived. I was disappointed since the easy over egg was cooked over well. I didn't know what to expect after looking at the 3.5 rating on yelp, this restaurant is really busy, there was a 30 minute wait but it was well worth it. I ordered the BLT Benedict it was cooked perfectly, very tasty. My sister had the blueberry pancakes, chickichanga which she loved, loved, loved!! Mmmmm First Watch we have missed you! We sat at the bar and were spoken to quickly and had drinks in front of us within two minutes. I had their Spring juice, the Pineapple Express and it was great! I loved the mint crystal rim. We also got an order of their Million Dollar Bacon and it was worth it (no, we did not pay a million dollars for it). It was perfectly salty, a little peppery, and the maple drizzle added the sweetness that makes it worth its name. Yum! For our food I ordered the Sweet Honey Pecan salad, I'll let you know how it is. Hubby ordered the Tri-Fecta with eggs, Belgium waffle, and sausage. Food came in an acceptable amount of time. The pecan salad was not for me. I'm not sure if I ordered poorly or if the salad was made poorly. It was a large glob (NOT a drizzle) of honey Dijon bacon pecan and chicken on top of field greens. Way too much dressing. It was the stickiest salad I've ever eaten and I couldn't finish it. It is VERY dijon mustard heavy, it made my tongue burn. Super disappointing. Sad face. I didn't get the toast with it either.
