Visited this location 3 times and I think I can safely say that the food is good. Not outstanding, but a pretty decent alternative to the typical Miami breakfast offering. The staff has always been friendly and attentive and the place always appears clean and tidy. The only thing I would caution others about is the wait. We came on a Sunday morning at 10:30 am and didn't end up leaving until 12:30 pm. Between waiting a long time to be seated, to then waiting for our food to arrive on our table, it really took way too long for a simple breakfast dining experience. I hope they work out the kinks at this location. We've been to other First Watch locations up north, and while you always have to wait to be seated, you don't have to wait 45 minutes for a plate of scrambled eggs and toast. read more

Excellent breakfast and lunch food. Very fresh ingredients. I had the quinoa bowl with 2 eggs on top. Absolutely delicious. I always get the vegetable omelette when I come here. If you care about quality of your food, this is a good place to get it. The place was very warm and cozy, and the vibe was nice. This is a wonderful little breakfast/lunch cafe in Downtown Sarasota. The design is lovely and spacious. The staff is prompt and very sweet. The food is filling, but not heavy. Everything tastes very fresh and healthy! The coffee is great! My only grievance with this place is that they don't have outdoor seating. Today would have been a beautiful day to sit outside. Also, they switched my decaf coffee with my friend's caffeinated coffee... Their decaf and regular are not clearly labeled. I cannot have fully caffeinated coffee for health reasons. read more

Had breakfast here are three out of four mornings that I was in Sarasota. Excellent breakfast, very good coffee, and very good service. The breakfast potatoes were perfect, the ham was excellent, the eggs were always just right, and the excellent wait staff put it all - 'over the top'. I was traveling with a group at a convention. We found First Watch on Yelp- great experience. Accommodating to me, eating with just my two small children. The waffle was so light and fluffy! We loved it. Staff were friendly and quick. I love First Watch restaurants but this one in downtown Sarasota was the worst. The service was atrocious. The waitress brings me my fried eggs and the yolk is all over the place and I tell her and she goes "So what do you want? New eggs?" Well... yeah! We asked for large orange juice, she brings small and we had to ask her FIVE times for her to bring other small juices to make up the differences. The potatoes were so salty they were inedible. The coffee pot got empty and she never came back and we had to ask someone else to refill it. read more

This place has an extensive and creative menu which made narrowing down to one item tricky. I ordered their special multigrain banana, vanilla chai latte pancakes served with a drizzle of almond butter blend and fresh raspberries and bananas. It was beautiful as well as delicious. My husband ordered the multigrain banana granola crunch pancakes which he enjoyed and my son ordered my runner up choice, lemon ricotta pancakes with lemon curd. Everyone enjoyed their selections. I also ordered one of their special juice drinks with added ginger and turmeric, delicious and refreshing! I was also pleased by the varied selection of teas that I had to choose from and the large pot of hot water and oversized mug which accompanied them. In this review I give First Watch a 2 star rating based on some very basic restaurant rules. The wait staff should always bring you water, or at least offer it. Ours did not. The food should be delivered in a timely manner, ours was not. My dish was missing the most critical component for a breakfast dish. My eggs! She took my dish and said she would take care of it. Now here is where things should have gone differently, when there is a mistake in the kitchen, and you have a customer waiting on their food. The dish should jump to the front of the line to make sure that the customer does not receive the food back after his or her friends or family are already done eating. I was in this place for 1 hour and 15 minutes total. Judging by the low yelp reviews, I would suggest going somewhere that cares about the customers. Thanks for ruining my morning! read more

We visited this place after the Sarasota Half Marathon event bearing its name (as the main sponsor presumably). I had the Chickichanga with pancakes which hit the spot after an exhausting run. I had never heard of this chain prior to running in Sarasota but apparently there are locations in South Florida. Given my experience in Sarasota, it definitely seems like they are worth a visit. read more

The last few times I have visited this restaurant the quality in food and service has declined. The food has been greasy, quantity has decreased, and today the hollandaise sauce was so salty it was hardly edible. I have to admit-- I went to First Watch not based on Yelp reviews or convenience, but rather because there was a string of comments posted in the Food/Hospitality jobs section of Craigslist about the hiring practices of this restaurant chain. The comments basically said don't bother applying for a job if you aren't a young pretty girl. Hmmm... I was intriqued since every hash slinging joint I have ever visited had at least one old bag with dyed red hair, a career server named Madge or Susan straight out of Central Casting. Well, the comments posted on Craigslist were correct, there wasn't a server on duty over the age of 30. Stepford Restaurant. There was a guy, though, so pretty girls and one token beefcake server to be eye candy for the little old ladies coming from their million dollar Sarasota condos to have breakfast. Oh, wait, this is supposed to be a food review, so let's review the food. I ordered an interesting sounding dish that was Quinoa, a grilled chicken breast, dried cherries, goat cheese and some spinach. There was some weird gravy on this platter, a gravy that tasted like it was straight out of a can. The gravy was totally out of place and a direct contradiction to what otherwise would have been a healthy dish. I also did not care for the chicken breast at all because it tasted like every faux piece of rubber chicken served at just about every restaurant everywhere now. The kind of chicken breast with air bubbles in it, even though the menu specified it was a wholesome free range chicken that had a great life, a Soylent Green drive-in death show of idyllic farm scenes the chicken enjoyed before getting its head lopped off for this dining excursion. I felt morally superior going in to my day with hearty healthy Quinoa under my belt. The service was lacking. Stepford Server disappeared for minutes on end and left an empty water glass I had perched right on the edge of the table as a clue to a refill, but she walked by several times without offering to refill it or let me know why my order was apparently consumed by some contraption in the kitchen and would be delayed. It took a different Stepford Server to notice the empty glass and refill it. It annoys me to no end when simple things like refilling a drink or letting me know how long the food is going to be go left undone when the restaurant isn't busy. I think there were about 5-6 occupied tables when I was at this restaurant. There was a lot of construction going on out on the street in front of it and I think that effected the number of diners. I think the service should be spectacular when there are that few tables to service spread among several servers. Instead, I think it led to some huddle somewhere where phones were checked and texts were being sent instead of focusing on the job at hand. It is time for this restaurant chain to consider the older worker if this service is any indication. Servers actually serve, not just when the mood strikes them, but all the time. I think that part goes missing if a place is stealhily trying to be the Hooter's of the breakfast crowd while also trying to maintain a veneer of respectability that it is all about the food and freshness. It wasn't particularly fresh or particularly good-- it wasn't bad, either, but it was just 'eh' and a little bit pricy for a bowl of 'eh'. It seems cynical to me to think an attractive looking waitstaff will make up for a lack of actual serving skills or mediocre food. This seems to me to be a recipe for a decline in repeat business, but maybe the fact the location is in a spot that will always get tourists has been factored in and banking on that instead of better food or better service is the corporate template this particular chain has chosen to follow. read more
