Had breakfast there today with my Dad after our morning walk. It looked like the place to go since there was a good crowd and the place is definitely inviting. The service was decent and the food was fresh and offered at a reasonable price. Everything seemed fresh, the Kale Tonic was refreshing and the bread was awesome. Ok, so now for the negative. I had the Farmhouse skillet and was not really thrilled with the flavor. First off it had sun dried tomatoes and not tomatoes as advertised, which has a completely different flavor profile and I probably wouldn't have ordered it if I had known. The preparation seemed OK, but the problem is that it had a bitter taste. I couldn't figure out if it was the sun-dried tomatoes, which are usually sweet, but maybe they were slightly burnt or if it had too much Paprika, not sure, but not very good. I understand that it's difficult to knock one's socks off when it comes to breakfast food, but I was very excited about dining at First Watch. The locals seemed to love it. We had eaten at Word of Mouth for breakfast the day before, so I suppose the bar was set high. One Saturday morning my fiance and I left our hotel (which served free continental breakfast) for some breakfast downtown. The wait was not long - fifteen minutes - and it was fun people-watching. The complimentary coffee was nice, too. You could tell this was a local hot-spot for coffee and eggs. I ordered the avocado, bacon, and tomato skillet along with a side of blueberry pancakes. My boyfriend got the Eggs Benedict and shared my pancakes with me. The skillet was wonderful - but as always, could have used more of the good stuff, notably avocado. No points off for that. The fruit bowl was, however, extremely tiny - I was a bit surprised. But what can you expect for a breakfast under $7? The pancakes, by the way, were not the best. I am a pancake connoisseur, and these pancakes failed my pancake test. They also were not stuffed with blueberries, how blueberry pancakes should be, in my opinion. However, if you enjoy their pancakes, you're in luck because they're huge. This place was above average, but only by a smidge. I would have given it 6.5 out of 10, if possible. Stop by and visit if you're looking for a simply good breakfast. The prices are fair and everything is fresh. read more

customer service and attention to detail is certainly lacking in this establishment. placed an order for pickup. chef salad no bacon no turkey and my daughter ordered a soup and sandwich. It was called in and was specified that the salad have no meat on it due to vegetarian diet restrictions. they assured us that there would be no meat on the salad. my daughter ends up picking our order and asked the hostess " no meat on the salad right?" she didn't bother checking it and just said no there's no meat. so she brings the food to my work so we can enjoy lunch together. I open my salad and there's a ton of turkey all over it. I couldn't even eat it it was disgusting. her sandwich was fine but her soup cup was only half-full and it almost looks like somebody drank half of it before putting the top back on. tried to call to talk to the manager but was put on hold forever so ended up hanging up. maybe it's me but I just seem not to have good luck with takeout orders at First Watch cafe since this wasn't the first time this has happened. read more

Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Water had a foreign body in the glass and had to be replaced. Ordered veggie soup and got tomato. Had to be replaced. Ordered a hot sandwich (roast beef), bread was warm, meat was still refrigerator temperature. Tired of sending things back by now. 3 strikes and at check out, blond accented woman was indifferent and dismissive. Strike 4. I won't return, too many other options within walking distance. I suggest avoiding this place and get a decent meal anywhere else. read more

Our first meal in Sarasota was DELICIOUS! We stopped in for lunch and really enjoyed it. I had the honey pecan salad, which was fantastic in that it was both light and filling! I found it to be well balanced with greens, additions (sliced chicken, avacado, etc..) and tasty dressing. I also had a side of the cheesy grits, but I didn't love them. DH had the roast beef and Havarti sandwich with a bowl of Italian Wedding soup. He really enjoyed his meal too. The place was busy, but the service was pretty good and it's worth a stop in if you're downtown. read more

Amazing fresh juice selection, we all had amazing meals, but my Avocado toast with poached eggs was literally perfect. We shared some pancakes as dessert - it was a perfect brunch. We sampled the "Kale Tonic" and "Day Glow" from the fresh juice bar. Both were super delicious and healthy! I ordered the Traditional Breakfast and requested scrambled eggs. I had to send the eggs back, because they weren't actually scrambled. It was a fried egg that had just been chopped up a few times. The breakfast potatoes were dry and a bit overcooked. My first visit to the First Watch on Cattlemen was less than complimentary as I noted the restaurant had great food but poor service. With my two grandchildren I visited again to determine whether my first visit had indeed been an aberration. I am very happy to report that that seems the case. I frequented both this location and, for a time, the Lakewood Ranch location when I was meeting a friend who lived out that way. We are Sunday morning regulars at First Watch and always enjoy our breakfasts. The general manager is friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. The servers do a good job as well. Our only complaint: two of our group have been requesting iced coffee for several years now. Since there is none available, I pour a cup of coffee into a mug, let it cool for a little bit, ask for a glass of ice, and then I make myself an iced coffee. Yes, it is a bit watery, but it is the best I can do since you don't sell iced coffee. I have been told that "management" is working on an iced coffee recipe. What is so difficult about making a pot of coffee, letting the coffee cool in a pitcher, and then serving a glass of cold coffee? Well, this morning, I was served an iced coffee that had been made from a syrup. It was not potable. I tried to drink it, but it did NOT taste good. It was too sweet, not enough of a coffee flavor, just plain BAD! Again I ask, why can you not make a pot of coffee, let the coffee cool, pour it in a glass with ice, and let me put the amount of sweetener and milk that I choose? read more

WE have been FW customers for 22 years. WE are so unimpressed with the new menu, have taken our weekly business elsewhere. The service at FW is still wonderful, coffee as well, prices in line with others. The new oatmeal is not a bowl of oatmeal, it is a bowl of fruit with a small portion of oatmeal on the bottom. Our friends tell us the bacon is no longer as good as before, the fruity chicken salad had been dropped from the menu along with the marinated veggies, but someone has said the salad is back, I cannot say because we have stopped going there. Ordered two scrambled eggs and was a very small portion. Food was not served steaming hot. We understand times change, we are much older, and restaurants have to appeal to younger appetites. Thank goodness there are plenty of breakfast/lunch places that have been able to fill our tummies with delicious bowls of steaming oatmeal, pancakes with warm maple syrup, and plates of scrambled eggs that are yellow and fluffy and lite. read more
