So I was in the area and I saw this place. From the street it definitely looks deserted. From the parking lot, it looked worse. I had to call to make sure they were open. I can see what some of the reviews were referring to about how confusing it is to walk in and then walk to the register to order. I did not look over the menu because I wanted fish & chips. I went with the three piece and a soda. It bad for under $19 bucks. The wait was not long at all. Time to eat. The fries were decent. They were a battered style fries. As for the fish, definitely bland. Plenty of fish but even with the tartar sauce the food was bland. I had to toss in some Salt to give it a seasoned flavor. Would I come back, probably not.

Don't let the outside of the place fool you. Have been here a couple of times for the fish and chips. They are always cooked well and never have been greasy. Had the calamari and clams last visit. Calamari was soft and not chewy or tough. Clams were not over cooked. Liked the calamari more than the clams. Servers are friendly and orders come out quickly.

Had a late lunch today with my friend. Second time I have been to Fish & Chips Restaurant. I loved the cole slaw, the flavor of the breaded fried shrimp, and their crispy fries. I'm not much of a potato person as I ate too many growing up, but theirs were well seasoned and really delicious. I had a Pepsi, friend stuck to water. Bill came to $29, an excellent value. Hit the spot. Service was cordial and accurate. Recommended.

Pretty good! The breaded shrimp and fries were perfectly crispy. I wasn't much of a fan of the coleslaw or macaroni sides. It was pretty clean inside. Very good service.

Wow! I have not been here in many many years. All I can say is this place has done a complete 180 since I last ate here. The food and staff are great! Every plate was delicious except for the clam chowder bread bowl. My youngest was bummed that all the bread was dug out completely, but the chowder itself was good. Will definitely come back and try more! read more

Our "Dine Out Seniors" group ate there for lunch today. We had 16 people and the service was perfect. They saw we had everything we ordered. I ordered 3 piece fish with a baked potato and macaroni salad. The fish were large and beer battered. The potato was huge with butter and sour cream. The macaroni was home made and tasty. The owner has a deep love and appreciation for food and whips up some of best food you'll ever have been coming here religiously for almost 9 yrs the food is divine fish n chips is a crack in the wall that's gone un-noticed and it's a shame the menudo here is as close to home as one could ever imagine they have other Mexican dinner staples and also honor and do justice to the New England style chain they represent read more

Awesome posole and menudo on the weekends, highly recommend it best in town, the fish n seafood however is average especially anything fryed. The Cajun shrimp is good though. Overall highly recommend the menudo on weekends when it's fresh everything else is ok. read more

Fish and chips menudo is very good. I've never liked menudo from restaurants because it doesn't taste like my mom's, but fish and chips menudo is an exception after trying it for the first time this year. Today i actually ate at the restaurant and there service was great as well. read more

I have been eating at this place for over a decade and what can I say this is the best seafood place, not just in Salinas but in Monterey County. Even better than the seafood places on the wharf. Try the fresh ceviche tostadas. Always fresh and tasty, no filler just real seafood. The owner's father had the original restaurant on Alisal back in the day and it was good and now the son has this one on N. Main on the corner of Boronda and N. Main. Great food to satisfy any picker eater. read more

I ordered family pack. The fish was soooo bland no flavor whatsoever. It was not crunchy, it looked old. Fries were extremely oily, old and soft not crispy AT ALL. My husband ordered scallops HORRIBLE!!!! Size of a dime, soooooo much batter, more batter than meat, fries were soggy best part of the meal was the dipping sauce. Macaroni salad was only bland noodles and Mayonnaise. It was flavorless in other words DISGUSTING! Never come back! And if that wasn't all, we got sick! EXPENSIVE & DISGUSTING! Save your money and go to eat to other place to eat! Not worth it! read more

The menudo was the only thing that was good the night we went. The fish was very bland, I got the baja tacos and there was literally a pinky sized piece of fish in each taco with a mountain of cabbage. All I could taste was tortilla and cabbage. Cabbage tacos. Clam chowder was horrible. The baked potato was rotten, returned it for fries, fries were good. The services was great! Just wished the food matched. This place use to be great.... maybe it was just a bad night? read more

Chavelas are good here.. The single has more flavor. Okay Menudo daily.. and its good!. The soup is well made and is missing that poopy innards smell that you hope it not to have. They do get busy on Sunday morning after church but its all good if your willing to wait. I would recommend this place to my friends.. The fish and chip are decent as well. Food is ok. Service not so much!! Had to sit in the very back in the far corner when there was plenty of tables out front. People that can in after me got their order taken before me. Visiting for the weekend and wanted good food that was authentic. It was amazing! The food, the people and did I say the food! The Captain's plate was filling and had me wanting more! Well I must say that it's pretty disappointing that you aren't able to sub French fries instead of getting jalapeno strips for your meal. Sorry not all of us eat jalapenos with our meals. Came to eat here on a Saturday night and ordered take out. I had the Fish and Chips and Calamari. I couldn't wait to get home and eat. When I got home I ate some calamari and it was delicious. Finally, my quest is over. This is the best menudo I have had in a very long time. It's even better than my own mothers and she'll agree! The vegetables were nearly whole as in a whole carrot, a potato cut in half lengthwise, really. I was given this dish and never saw the server again. Somehow I was supposed to eat this with tortillas and a spoon. After tasting the thin, red broth and being absolutely disgusted, I went to the register to speak to my server. I told her I didnt like the food and didnt eat it. With a straight face she rung me up and charged me over 30 dollars for a meal I didnt like or eat. That's the first time I've ever left a restaurant for bad food. Bad food, bad service, stay away from this one.

The food was good but the prices are too high and it makes you not want to tip or have more stuff. I guess it's not a well known fact that doing volume in sales is always better than charging too much to your customers and then when you don't allow your staff to make good tips then the good workers won't hang around. Oh well you guys won't see me and my family unless your prices get a reality check. Thanks read more
