Fish (cod) and chips with pickle and tar tar sauce

Great food. The portion was fair for the price. My favorite part was how fresh and hot the fish was. I wasn't too big of a fan of their fries but overall the fish was the star. Would come back again!!!

Absolutely delicious fish n chips hole in the wall with grumpy service ...walked 20 minutes from hotel just to check it out ...worth it. Although London fish n chips is on average so much better than the states...this place is better than average!!

Perfect, off the beaten path, local place for our family. Fish & chips, meat pies, and service were all exceptional.

Lovely fish and chips in town. Great batter and great chips. Recommended if you are around. Will be coming back soon hopefully if im around again. Thank you for the wonderful fish and chips. Cheers! I hope this review helps

The fish was crispy, chips were kinda crispy. It was my first time eating fish and chips. I prefer the fries and fried chicken back home to be honest. I bought a meat pie today June 22 but halfway through I noticed the date on the wrapper says June 19.. :/

We loved it! Friendly and fast service and amazing fish! It's little and very casual but everyone there was nice and friendly even though we were a group of jet lagged Americans.

We were looking for fish and chips and tried this restaurant tonight based on the Yelp reviews. The food did not disappoint! The fish was perfect! Fresh, crispy and delicious. Everyone working in the restaurant was super nice and attentive. All things combined made this a perfect evening. If you are in town, do yourself a favor and give it a try.

    Cod and chips! Outstanding.

Straight up whole in the wall and local spot. Although by the time we got there, it was totally empty and dead. But this was not an indication of the food and service. I picked the cod. The fish was extremely fresh and cooked perfectly. The staff were very friendly as well.

After walking in a spiral trying to find the place without a proper map or wifi, I finally came upon Fish Bone. There are a couple of tables outside, three in front of the counter and a bunch in the back dining room. I asked the gentleman at the front what kind of fish he recommended for fish and chips. He was very sweet and had a bit of a sheepish smile, probably trying not to laugh at just how touristy I was being and the American accent to top it off. He said the cod and the haddock were both great but I went with the cod since it was the only one available in a small size. He also asked if I'd have anything to drink and I said, sure a beer. I thought I'd get something local but he offered up a bottle of Stella -- no draughts here. Perhaps Stella is a local favorite; the dude beside me was drinking one too. The fish was great. It was salted and the batter actually had flavor (this was not the case the last time I visited London and had fish and chips). The mushy peas had a fair amount of acidity (tasted of lemon) which I didn't expect and it definitely helped cut through the heaviness of the fry and the tartar sauce...but not my favorite preparation of peas. The fries were typical British fries, no salt and no real flavor. They weren't soggy though so probably successful British fries, just very different from how Americans are accustomed. A heavy hand with the salt shaker and alternating between the vinegar and more tartar sauce certainly helped. Seemed most folks outside and in the dining room were tourists. The dude beside me who was pretty much just hanging out with his iPad and talking with the owners and also the folks who got their f&c take away were the locals -- it was pretty clear! The pricing on the wall is only for take away: small cod £4.4, small chips £2 and mushy peas £1. My eat in order plus the beer was £13.2. Overall, a cute little no-frills mom n' pop place with very good fried fish.

This is a chip butty ready to be folded in half and eaten with glee!

Fishbone serves fish & chips in London. It's an old fashioned shop, not trendy with a gorgeous odd decor. You can order a slice of bread and butter to make a chip butty! Excellent wheelchair access. The owner was lovely and very warm and friendly. The food was delicious with crunchy chips and lightly battered fish. I found the regular size a bit large as the serving sizes are generous. Highly recommended to either eat in or takeaway.

Looking for a quick place to grab some fish and chips? Look no further! To sum up Fish Bone in one word (that isn't "YUM!") I'd use "FAST!" We were greeted warmly by two employees when we walked in. The menu was fairly standard for a fish and chips place, and ranged from cheap to slightly expensive. From my experience, the small sizes are more than enough to fill you. I placed my order--the small cod and chips--and took out my phone to fire up Yelp so I could grab a pic. Before I could load the Yelp page for Fish Bone, *our food was sitting in front of us.* +10 for speediness! The cod was excellent: lightly battered and crispy, and not overly oily. Like others here, my friend wasn't a fan of the chips but I thoroughly enjoyed them! On the plate was a large lemon that I sprayed over everything for the extra hint of freshness, but once I found the tartar sauce and vinegar the lemon sat unused and depressed on the corner of my plate. I'm not usually a tartar sauce fan, but this was some good stuff. I liberally applied it to my fish (and occasionally dunked a chip in it). If you're looking for super fast, affordable, and delicious fish and (arguably) chips, Fish Bone won't disappoint!

Yum! This is my favorite fish & chips place in London because it's close to Regent's Park (so you can bring your food there on a nice day) and because the portions are huge but the prices are reasonable. The staff is really friendly and nice and the interior was recently renovated (within the past few years) so that it looks a bit "fancier" (not 5-star, but less grungy than it did before). Everything I've had has been really yummy (cod, rock, and skate). The fish is fresh and the batter is light and crisp and airy. The chips are sort of weirdly chunky but some people like that. I like to generously douse my fish & chips with malt vinegar and I love asking for a gherkin on the side.

I've been in this place in September 2015. The restaurant itself is a simple one, not very charming but functional. It's a classic fish 'n' chips shop ran by a very friendly macedonian owner. I really enjoyed the food. We had an haddock with chips and it was tasty, not at all as strong-smelling as I thought it would be. A photo of the menu is attatched, as well as one displaying some stickers on the door from the Government department charged of evaluating the hygene (the restaurant scored 4 out of 5). Be aware that there's a relevant difference in price between the take-away formula (around 7£) and the service at tables (around 10£). The owner remarked that before taking the order however, so the service was quite fair.

The chips were thick-cut, properly salted, and tasted like real chip shop fries instead of frozen fast food fries. The place was completely packed, so I ended up eating on the stairs about a block away, honestly felt like part of the experience. (I heard the non GF version was also excellent.) Platter came with flavorful mushy peas, tartar sauce, and a spicy mayo (or currry for the non GF platter). Chips were large and delicious. Portion was huge, and easily shareable. Delicious!! Service: It was ok. We waited in line for a really long time (more than an hour) but we were checked on from time to time. Once we were seated and ordered, no one really checked in, but we asked if we needed something. Ambiance: Cute outdoor seating. In door seating was okay. Reservations get to go into a back room which seemed nicer. Lovely side street in a crazy busy popular area. It's a solid 4.5 stars for what it is because the food was so good. I'd return. Tip: Make a reservation a couple of weeks in advance, or be prepared to wait...a long time...Or, skip the line to order takeaway and go enjoy your food!

It was so busy on a Wednesday evening, we took seats at the bar. We had lovely cocktails (I a wonderful G&T and my husband a pear Bellini). We had an amazing starter of beef tartar made from well seasoned hand cut sirloin with a fresh chicken egg yolk. Since I am gluten-free, it was nice they offered GF crackers instead of bread with the tartar. My main dish was shepherd's pie which was presented as a round of shredded/ground beef with a topping of mash flavored with Monterey Jack cheese and cheddar. My husband had the monk fish and shrimp with sweet potatoes in a lovely curry sauce with coconut milk and sliced almonds. It was heavenly! The service was very nice and we felt very comfortable and at home.

It took 25 mins to place our drink order- then about 30 more mins to get our food, after placing that order. Then we had to wait to place a dessert order. Then we had to wait for the check. One word for this comes to mind...'waiting'. We found ourselves waiting every step of the way for our waiter to acknowledge us. Honestly I can forgive A LOT if people are nice but that wasn't the case with our server. Low energy, not very warm and welcoming and slow. Actually to be fair, I got a smile from the busboy when I was on my way to the restroom- perhaps the 2 should switch roles if the restaurant is looking for repeat visits or nice reviews. Btw- the manager...not exactly sure what he was doing. One last thing, I've had sea bass in many restaurants and never had anyone leave the skin on-Just not what I expected. This restaurant gets 2 thumbs down for me. Go to Bills right around the corner - save some money - and get a smile from the staff and a nice greeting.

They had room for party of 4 and it was Monday night, so "butcher" pricing, which means you pay what they pay by the weight for your meat. There was a chalk board that listed all the cuts by weight and as they sold, they crossed them off. There were still plenty available in a variety of cuts when we arrived around 8pm. I love that the entire restaurant is underground. We ended up getting an 800kg ribeye and it was the perfect amount of meat for us. We did supplement with lots of sides including the bone marrow, mushrooms on toast, beef dripping chips, and sweet potato. My favorite was the sweet potato, which was ash roasted for 10 hours and you could taste it. They all went will with the steak that came out in about 20 minutes, pre-sliced with a nice presentation. We also got a few of the cheese and pickle, which was a hit with my wife. Our server was great and we enjoyed our time and meal very much!
