This is the go to work lunch spot for fish and chip around carlsbad. Pre pandemic there is usually a line and the inside would be packed even on a wedneaday. Now i just order ahead and walk in pick up and am bavk in the office in 10 minutes enjoying my meal in the confort of my front seat. read more

The food was amazing, quick, and moderately priced. I asked the staff which one of her personal favourites she recommended. I always ask since they are acquainted with menu. So be it, taco COASTAL style, she replied. I was sipping a cold beer from a cold glass. I observed the young lady moving from the register to taking orders and conversing with the cook while answering the phone. Taking out the trash and cleaning the tables. I thought that she had to be the Mgr. When I asked, she politely replied, "No, just an employee." If I owned a business, I would want (her name is Amanda.) to work with me. What a fantastic employee. Stopped by for happy hour. Got baja tacos and a cup of chowder. Place is clean and bright. Little outdoor seating area. Fish on tacos was large and well cooked. Tortilla was a bit thick for my likin. Soup creamy and tasty. Will be back. read more

This place is awesome! We've been visiting Carlsbad for a few years and always lingered around the usual spots "near" the beach. Decided to go inland a little and visit this place for lunch. What a win, beer is good, food quality is superb, and the staff is great! If you like great fish dishes at a decent price this is the place. They even gave us free desert, wow! Will be back again for sure. If you like to pay the extra $ for looks and show this is not the place.. just good food in a family environment. read more

Fish District delivers on fish tacos, hands down. Being from the East Coast, we don't have many options for quick and high-quality fish tacos. Since I was in the area, had to take advantage of what Fish District serves up, and I was not disappointed. The inside is cozy with adequate seating (was really busy when I was there), and the decor is like a cross between nautical and shabby chic. Staff was really friendly and helpful. I got a battered fish taco and grilled shrimp Baja taco - both loaded with fresh vegetables, great seafood, and delicious flavors that just made sense. Paired with a Coke, it's California in a meal. Overall, can't say enough about Fish District, and definitely will hit it up if I'm back in the area. read more

Perhaps we went on an off day, but our experience was not on par with these reviews. We eat fish frequently and this place did not reach the mark. Baja Tacos were not good at all. The fish and chips my husband ordered were fine. The ceviche was also fine, but not memorable. The best thing I may have eaten were the popcorn shrimp from my child's kid meal. read more

5 stars for the lemongrass shrimp soup. If you love Panang curry, you'll love this soup. Soup isn't hearty, but the flavor is spot on. Music was upbeat 1950s type music. Parking is always busy in Bressi Ranch. Tendy lighting and wooden top tables. Service was helpful and cheery. I just can't get enough of Fish District! There such a variety of a modern take to seafood. From all the poke bowls to wraps to mahi-mahi burgers my favorite are the fish tacos. On Tuesdays, they serve Taco Tuesdays for about $2.50 to $3.00. I love that you can pick the type of flavor you want your tacos to be like. I like the Baja and the coastal which offers bits of mango to the tacos. They are pretty large for a typical fish taco so be prepared to order a little less since they are quite large. read more

4.5 stars I thought this was a sit down restaurant initially and was surprised when I saw it was more casual. But I think it works. The the decor is fresh and clean. It's a nice little gem with fresh seafood and some happy hour specials. They have paper copies of their menu as well as the electronic board on the wall so you can read through things without looking up the entire time. I was surprised by how extensive the menu was for such a small place but all the food came out pretty quickly and was tasty. I got the mahi burger (4 stars) and while the flavors were good, the ratio of fish to bun was a little off. I think they could have gone with a smaller bun to bring out more of that flavor. The mahi was lost in several of my bites but it all tasted fresh and balanced. Definitely get the FISH AND CHIPS (5 stars!). The fries are on point and they're super crunchy/crisp on the outside with that softer fluffy potato on the inside. The fish had a light batter and didn't feel weighed down/heavy after being fried. The pieces are also pretty substantial in size and hold up pretty well. They were a little greasy but that's what you get when you get a plate of fried foods. Tarter sauce was also good and very flavorful. For some lighter, less fried options, they also have salads and wraps. I could see this as a great place to grab lunch if I worked nearby. read more

I broke apart the fish so it would cool faster. The fries were perfectly crispy and delicious. The chowder was thick and tasty but mostly potatoes and very few clams. The shrimp were perfectly cooked inside the thick batter. The fish was well breaded and tasted good. I just wish it was a bit less greasy. This is definitely a divey spot but it's an Oceanside institution and hits the spot when I'm craving fish and chips.

Whoa, hold your sea horses, folks! I gotta gush about a little place called Fish District, the unsung hero of under-the-sea dining! First off, their fish and chips? Straight from Neptune's personal kitchen. I ordered a two-piece, and let me tell you, those bad boys were so perfectly crispy I could've sworn they'd done a stint at the Iron-Chef School for Fried Goodness. Zero sog. The batter was light, the fish was meaty. Pure culinary wizardry. Then we get to the chips. Can we just have a moment of silence for the crispy majesty that these taters embody? They could put the most tenacious newspaper to shame with their crispiness. But let's cut to the chase - the unsung hero in this seafood saga? The caper sauce. Usually, I'm a double-dipper, one foot in the malt vinegar, the other in the tartar sauce. But this caper sauce, it's got me reconsidering my life choices. No need for malt vinegar when you've got this semi-green goddess at your side. Also, their draft selection? Went there to pick up lunch today. First - the good part. The kid behind the counter was pleasant and took my order efficiently. He was a little rushed, more on that in a bit. The Calamari was pretty good. The toast that came with the Chowder was good too. Now, the rest. The Chowder was the thinnest, runniest version I've ever had. $8 for a 3/4 full small container. Not what I would consider a "bowl", which we were planning on splitting. The guy I mentioned before was trying to fill cups of tartar sauce and put lids on them during a mini lunch rush. Seemed odd to be doing side work during busy time. Seeing the tartar sauce made me want some, so when my order was ready, the manager/owner guy handed me my bag and I asked for some. He charged me .81 per container, $1.62. Gruff, no smile, bordering on rude demeanor. Customer behind me asked how long they've been charging for sauce and was rudely answered "about 6 months" with a stare. Then manager guy came out from behind the counter and was visibly upset that a couple didn't clear their own table. So, apparently I should have stopped coming here "about 6 months ago" won't make this mistake again. read more

Wow was I impressed witht this new place. Wow am I a bad typer. This new joint took me back to manhattan with tile up the walls, marble countertops, killer beers on tap and totally relaxed service that doesn't suck. Think about that. Good service. These guys are good and the fish is better. TARTER SAUCE!!!!!! Fish and chips was amazing. My wife's scallop and shrimp melt sandwich was a new experience that I am instantly addicted to. The first time I came here, I ordered the calamari strips. They were about 4 inches long and breaded served with tarter sauce and the portions were generous and delicious. The second time I ate here, I ordered the same thing but was served a very small portion (1 to 2 inch strips). The waiter told me that's how they've always served it. Then the waiter proceeded to prove me wrong. Did not like the way they handled my inquiry. This was a customer service nightmare. I didn't want my money back nor a free meal. I want to see improvement the next time I come around. Come on guys, you can't afford to be crappy in customer service like your neighbor Luna Grill (they are the worst). read more

This place is great! I come here often. Not far from my house and I love bringing my daughter, grandkids and all of my family here. We especially enjoy the soup and steak bowls. The steak is cooked perfectly. They also have some homemade cookies, very thin and delightful. The prices are good. It matches the quality of food that you receive. After watching hours of the food network we decided to hit the road. We went to this place off the yelp and Google reviews. Although not by the beach it's close enough.
