Came here to pick up some food to go! Fish District is about a ten minute drive from my workplace so I called as I was leaving to place my order. Fish District is located in a small shopping plaza with a grocery store and a few other small eateries (The Cravory cookies is right next door!!!) so parking was ample and easy. I ordered the spring salad ($6) and added salmon(+$5) as well as a bowl of the clam chowder. The salad was delicious! It came with a sweet mustard sort of a vinaigrette, the veggies they used tasted really fresh, and the salmon was cooked to perfection. It was also a decent portion for the price! Definitely will order again. The clam chowder was a bit of a miss for me. I wanted something creamy and comforting because of the rain and it had a strange tangy taste to it. It wasn't terrible or inedible, just not up my alley palette wise. On the bright side, it had tons and tons of clams and they did a great job cleaning them- I didn't have a single grain of sand! read more

This is a great spot, just be prepared to take time to find parking and wait in line during the lunchtime hour during the work week. I visited here for the second time today and the food is delicious. You can really have any type of fish you want served any style; bowl, plate, salad, wrap, etc. Today I chose the catch of the day plate, I went with the salmon. With the plate you can have 2 sides, I went for the sautéed vegetables and the asparagus and everything was delicious! My friend enjoyed the ahi pole bowl which also looked good, I might have to try that next time that I'm there. Small spot, more of a quick lunchtime spot vs somewhere that you'd go on a Weekend evening. They have seating both inside and outside, several choices on their menu and the staff is friendly. Poor Rubio's. I'm sure it's hard being so close to such an awesome taco joint like this place. My hubs and I were stoked by all the options and freshness of the food. The updated, clean interior keeps this smaller space feeling open and inviting. Definitely well equipped with a nice staff that gave some good recommendations. Spicy ahi poke starter is bomb- superior grade ahi that melts in your mouth- subtle kick and great flavor; came via recommendation and we weren't disappointed. Very tasty with a few tweaks. The brioche bun is pretty bready and sweet, more like a Hawaiian bun. Even grilled the bun top stood about 1.5" thick. I was expecting a soft savory bun.The salmon burger was delicious but it wasn't a burger but a grilled salmon sandwich. The white clam chowder was delicious also , but not served hot but warm. Being the creature of habit that I can be, I was actually heading to a neighboring (and one in regular rotation) spot for a quick lunch on the way to work when I came upon Fish District. I realized I had bookmarked them awhile ago so, decided now was as good a time as any to branch out and try something new. I was greeted and able to order immediately as it was between rush hour lunch and dinner but, I imagine this place gets hoppin' around prime times. Seeing as how I made it in time for their fabulous happy hour I decided to give it a go and ordered one battered fish and one battered shrimp taco. Yes, I love fresh, grilled fish but, I also have a hard time resisting a good fried version especially when a long night at work looms ahead. I didn't have to wait long before my order arrived and was pleasantly surprised to see how generous the servings were for both tacos. I began with the fish: deliciously battered and crispy but, not greasy, with the most delicious sauce ever. I loved it so much I asked for an additional side of this creamy but, spicy delight. Next up: battered shrimp taco. Holy moly, it was incredible! The shrimp was obviously fresh but, also generously sized and perfectly seasoned and also laced with the glorious creamy sriracha sauce. The fish was a little too warm for my liking (poke should be slightly chilled to room temperature) and there was no flavor in the fish. First time to try this place and didn't go wrong choosing their swordfish plate. With items labeled for food allergies and plenty of side options it was hard to choose just two sides. They have used some of their front parking spaces for outdoor dining with a tent which is nice during mid day. They still have happy hour and a normal menu. I mentioned several times it was my first time there, but I got the feeling that the young lady ringing me up was a bit annoyed with my questions; it would've been helpful if she offered to explain the menu; first, pick your fish of choice - mahi mahi, red snapper, sea bass, etc. Second, choose sandwich, plate, wrap, etc. Third, choose your sauce: caper, teriyaki, siracha, etc. No problem, I figured it out without such assistance. I paid just over $21 for an entree and 16 oz of soup. Not pricey, but not exactly pocket friendly either. It took about 10-15 minutes for my order. I thought that was more than a reasonable time to wait for cooked to order seafood. While I waited, I was offered a spoonful example of the ahi. The owner also asked if I'd like a drink while I waited. The atmosphere - I like the small casual feel of this place. The counter top bar seating area and selection of beers placed on the blackboard are nice touches. I went on a Friday evening and it was very upbeat and energetic. Clearly, this place has attracted an instant following. After tasting the fresh fish, I could definitely see how. The food - IMHO, for what I paid, the portions were on the small side. Just looking at it, I figured I'd still be hungry. Thankfully, I ordered the clam chowder as well. My sea bass was absolutely delicious. It was cooked to perfection. Loved the caper sauce that I chose to accompany the fish. The ratatouille (we call this succotash down south) was also excellent. The only downside for me was the tarter sauce and clam chowder. The tarter sauce was just not very good. it was way too tart. The clam chowder was too liquidy/runny for my taste. Personally, I enjoy a thicker clam chowder. I added salt and pepper, along with some oyster crackers and it was decent. I love a good chowder, I just wish it was a slightly thicker soup. Overall, I really enjoyed my dinner. This is a great location with fantastic service. They are so friendly and efficient and there are so many tasty menu options. I love the ahi as well as the salmon, my husband really enjoyed his fish and chips and the kids meals are generous too. Our first visit! We came in for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon and there were plenty of tables to go around. The setup is very similar to Blue Water Grill down south where you go in line to order food and then have it served to you at your table, except there's no ridiculously long line! Yesss! Our food came in about 15-20 minutes after we ordered. I got the beer-battered fish taco and the mahi-mahi taco and both came in nice large portions (about double to triple the size of a street taco) so the prices are very reasonable. The beer-battered fish was super crunchy and it came with fresh pico de gallo and greens. I took my first bite and *swooon*. Definitely one of the best fish tacos I've ever had. The mahi-mahi was well-seasoned and also tasted fresh. I don't remember which toppings it came with because I just inhaled it! Following another yelper's tip, I asked for both the sriracha-mayo and chilito sauces and used them together. Ohhhh man, best decision ever! These sauces and the fish are just made for each other. I absolutely loved this place! The parking lot is hectic as hell during the lunch hour. It is a small food establishment but it's so good! I walked in and out in under 10 minutes. I had their poke bowl with wasabi sauce and let me tell you it is one of the best I've ever had! All the food looks delicious. I saw most of the people ordering fish and chips and that is what I will be ordering the next time I go in. I can't not even to begin to express my excitement to discover that this restaurant is only 5 minutes away from my house. My wonderful experience started off by great customer service, they immediately greeted me as I entered and made sure I was comfortable with the menu before ordering. I wish I got the guy's name but he was so informative and helpful. He brought out a menu of all their sauces they offer and gave us samples. I fell in love with all their sauces and had trouble picking which one I liked better with my taco. I went with my two favorites the Siracha and Chilito sauce. YUM! Food: ordered fish and chips for myself, popcorn shrimp and fries for the kiddo. The fish was very bland!! The batter was good but there was no seasoning at all! Add seasoning and it would be ok but not the best fish and chips as described by others. It may also be because it's a cod and I'm more used to a halibut flavor but either way not a fan. Popcorn shrimp was good, cocktail sauce has a good flavor. Both left a pretty greasy after taste! Not a fan! Would I return? No! had a school-night, family dinner at FISH DISTRICT. part of the allure was nearby alternatives (KASI, RUBIO's and BOARD & BREW) if somebody (we were a party of eight) didn't feel like fish. twelve-year old daughter exercised her DAAL option (KASI) but everybody else settled in for seafood. we created a traffic jam at the register where we ordered complicated by our unfamilarity with the menu. we started with CALAMARI FRITES for the table. hot, fresh and crispy, dinner was off to an excellent start. it was (taco) tuesday and i had the ($2) FISH TACO special. fish portion was generous and i would say theirs was one of the better versions i've had lately. my second son, CALEB, had the SHRIMP PO BOY and generously shared a bite -- it was very good. the CLAM CHOWDERs and FISH and CHIPS both got high praise. the wife ordered the BACON-CHOWDER FRIES -- yeah, i know sounds odd but they were actually very good. i went back and forth between four and five stars and though i wouldn't say they were a solid five, place was pretty, darn tasty. read more

Estimated time for pickup says ready in 20 minutes 7:13 pm - Arrive at Fish District and ask for an order for Bob 7:14 pm - Cashier goes over to a table with about 4-5 orders, looks at all the names on the tags and then walks away, Says nothing. 7:14:30 pm - I assume I've arrived too early and my order isn't quite ready yet so I stand aside to let other people pick up their orders 7:15 pm - Man and young son come in and place order. 7:23 pm - Man and young son leave with their order 7:25 pm - Say, could you please see what happened to the order for Bob. I ordered it like 30 minutes ago. 7:25:30 - Cashier with revolting man-bun goes back to same table he looked at when I first arrived. Picks up a bag that was sitting there when I walked in and handed it to me. Me: So my order has been just sitting there for 20 minutes? Man-bun: Looking at manager observing our exchange and says, "You said it was a phone order!" Me: No, I asked you if you had an order ready for Bob Man-bun:(desperate) "You should have asked for your order by last name, not first name" Me: But you just found my order by my first name on the same bag that you picked-up and examined when I arrived. No apologies. No "I'm sorry for the misunderstanding". No offer to make it over again so I could have what I paid for. Instead this immature kid who has no business being in any job that requires customer service tries to blame his mistake on the customer. I was craving for scallops, then came on here and saw this restaurant. So I went and got this scallop and shrimp melt.. Mmm so good satisfied my craving. My friend had beer battered shrimp.. They were huge and crunchy and the siracha dipping sauce was perfect for it..Great service also, and the guy, I think is the owner was super nice.. He gave me a sample of their lemon grass soup... Just had a bad experience on my bill which I tipped 15% but was charged to my credit card as 30% as an extra $10 tipped. Was CRAVING fish and chips! Anyone remember the old "H. SALT fish and chips" place? The crispy golden outside with flaky moist fish on the inside. This is unfortunately a bit of a rarity these days, so when a business executes on "quality" and "value" as flawlessly as you do, it does not go unnoticed by customers. Every item on the menu is fresh, well-prepared and inventive in some way. If you like NE clam chowder you must try a cup. Perfect consistency and they don't skimp on the clams, potatoes, etc. , Like anyone born and raised in SoCal, I consider myself a bit of an "expert" on fish/shrimp tacos - and the tacos here do not disappoint. Dare I say they are better than the Brig? I will (sorry Brig). Try them "coastal style" served with their super fresh mango salsa and spiced crema sauce - muy delisioso. My new favorite is the blacked mahi bowl (not exactly on the menu but they will sub mahi for ahi). Best fish bowl in San Diego. SO, SO fresh tasting and drizzled with another addictive sauce - their wasabi aioli. A symphony of flavors that makes my heart sing - seriously. Poki bowl is on point (I like mine "traditional" with a side of "spicy" mayo), and if you're not in the mood for seafood try the skirt steak bowl or tacos (My son's fav). And to round things out they have a great selection of beers on tap (nice local ipas), and even dessert (bread pudding with whiskey sauce - be still my beating heart). I brought my family here one night to try it out. I live nearby and love fish so it was a no-brainer. The interior of Fish District is very nice. They have some interesting lighting fixtures which set the restaurant apart from other nearby eateries. Stop in and grab a menu. For some reason the PDF menu on their website (even though clocking in at roughly 2Mb) is terribly slow to download. You might have different results. I would convert this page to HTML so it loads instantly. You can order fish four ways: sandwich, taco, wrap or on a plate. We went with two plates: halibut and swordfish, both with lemon-caper sauces. The sauce is very light, barely noticeable. I wish it came with more sauce, or maybe on the side in a cup. My halibut was pretty good. Not mind-blowing, but good. My wife's swordfish was ok. Again wish it had more sauce. We had to add salt to both dishes. Our side dishes were ok. I had the diced ratatouille and my wife had the green beans. My kids both had the tempura battered chicken strips and fries. They liked them. I also tried the lemongrass shrimp soup which was very good. I also had the Stone Porter. They ran out of the Dos Equis Amber :( Overall I'd come back to try one of the other dishes and fishes. The paper plates were strange but I suppose that's recyclable (assuming they try to recycle). I'd suggest they give the customer the option to add more sauce. They also could use a few other sides: brown rice, roasted red potatoes, spinach or roasted carrots. Just more options. Also add Newcastle, Alesmith Nut Brown or something similar ;) read more
