Wow. Ok I'll start with the clam chowder. I like mine thick, creamy and not overcrowded by potatoes. Their clam chowder was absolutely perfect! I split the shrimp and scallop melt. The bread had the perfect level of butter and toasted just right. The shrimp and scallops had a nice creamy sauce, I think it was chowder.(yes I'm back on the chowder. Fresh seafood options galore. I have frequented this place many times. I usually get their tacos. However, today I decided to try their salads and I was not disappointed. I've been here many times but my first time writing a review. For this recent visit I ordered a salmon & kale bowl with quinoa. I really liked it. It was light and healthy. The salmon was cooked perfectly. I will definitely order it again. I also ordered the calamari which was ok. I wish the calamari were more evenly cooked. Some pieces didn't were fried good and some pieces were lightly fried. Weird. My bf ordered the fish and chips and a Baja style fish taco. Got a poke bowl and clam chowder. It was really quick. Order pay and then food came out pretty fast. The clam chowder is on the thinner side, but fine with me, just a different style. It was prettu good. But a lot of people prefer the thicker version. The poke was good. One of the few options in poway/carmel mountain for this type of place, and I was pleasantly surprised. I loved this place until tonight! My girlfriend and I have been dining here for over two years. Normally I wouldn't post a negative review for one bad order. But....the food we received was subpar to say the least! The clam chowder which I swear by...is different. Not sure if they changed the recipe or if we had a spoiled batch. But, it was sour and just disgusting. Took a couple bites, gagged, and threw it out. My girlfriend did the same. Then, the Blackened Ahi Tuna Bowls we ordered had a few thin pieces of tuna (which weren't fresh and were overcooked), on top of a ton of rice, and topped off with a piece of rotten avocado. Quick service and good food = awesome meal. We were craving seafood and this certainly hit the spot. I kept seeing photos of their fish and chips, and poke dishes, now I know why. The Fish District has been here for a minute, but I finally got a chance to go there for the first time. The service was exceptional and attentive. I believe J.B. (Sorry if I got your name wrong) was the one to take our order and he was very friendly while taking our order and let my mother try a taster of beer before making her decision. I used to be obsessed with their poke bowls until I got pregnant and couldn't eat raw seafood anymore. I don't eat ginger or avocado so I like to ask for extra seaweed instead but they always up charge me. I think it's pretty lame but whatever. That's not why I'm writing this review. Today I ordered the Mahi Mahi plate and the calamari appetizer. My total was $26.40 for a $13 plate, $7 appetizer and a drink. I got my order and thought that the calamari portion was exceptionally small. I asked both the manager and the cook (who was behind the counter already helping me) and they BOTH said that you get 6oz for $7. I thought WOW okay, lesson learned.... On my way home I decided that I would weigh the food on my food scale just to make sure. It didn't look like 6oz but then again I don't visualize 6oz on a regular basis so what did I know? Now, you have to give me credit for not eating the food in the car on the way home since I am pregnant and all hehe. I patiently waited and boy am I glad that I did!!! Here are the results: I paid $7 for supposedly 6oz of calamari. Well, I weighed it and they only gave me 3oz!!!!! So I decided to weigh my Mahi Mahi while I was at it. They gave me a whooping 3oz for $13! I gave the manager Henry a call right after... 1. He tried to tell me the calamari is weighed before it's cooked. Bullsh*t.. you're telling me that calamari loses half its weight when it's cooked? That makes NO sense and even if that's true then I get 3oz for $7? Wow. 2. Then I asked him how many ounces of Mahi Mahi should I get for $13 and he said 5-6oz!!!! I said wow okay because I got 3oz! Henry was nice and said that I could come back in and get a free meal on him. I'm not sure what that entails but I will find out soon enough. Lesson: Be careful with this place. I decided on a salmon poke bowl with wasabi soy sauce (small for $10) and it was super fresh and the salmon was tender. The fish district recently changed their how they make their Poke bowls and they also charge for sauces. It's their business of course, but I'm disappointed in these changes. I used to enjoy getting a base of rice and spring greens, and they no longer do that. Also, they now charge $.75 for a 2oz container of sauce. It's like charging for a condiment packet. I don't know if I'll return to see if they reverted any of these changes to update this review. read more

Five stars because their poke is BOMB.COM!! Okay, just to let you guys know I've been coming here all the time (probably at least once or twice a week) just for their spicy salmon poke bowl. And man I have to say, it's one of my favorite pokes in San Diego. The spicy sauce which I think is spicy mayo is so good, I could just drink it like water (lol jk I'm exaggerating). DANKS. The salmon is perfect, the rice which they use sushi rice is amazing. It also includes avocado, seaweed salad, cucumber, ginger, and sesame seeds. All are very yummy. Also, if you can't choose between salmon or ahi you can get half and half! And they also added a large size instead of just one regular size bowl. The bread pudding with whiskey sauce was a hit for our group. It's a pretty good serving size, so 2-3 people can share one. On my last visit I had the fish and chips that everyone raved about. I can see why people recommended it. It wasn't heavy on the batter and had plenty of fish. The entree usually comes with two pieces and fries, but you can upgrade it for three pieces for a little over a dollar. If you check in on Yelp you can get a free soup! Service is great. read more
