I went to the Solana Beach location. The lady at the register could barely speak English and I couldn't understand her. She was extremely rude because she had to keep repeating herself. This has happened twice to me now that I've been there. I ordered the three-piece fish and chips and they gave me one small tartar sauce. I requested another one and they wanted to charge me a dollar for it. The young guy assisting her was also very rude. They are clearly very unhappy, unprofessional, and the service could not have been worse. I will definitely not be going back there again as there are too many good places to eat in the vicinity where I can be treated properly. I actually give it zero stars. Beware! read more

We got there late afternoon, so it wasn't too busy at the location. We got our food very fast. We ordered New England Clam Chowder and Combo Tray. The Combo tray was nice for someone who couldn't decide between shrimp and fish. The Clam Chowder was amazing; however, my son said it's too meaty. Do you want to have a healthy, low-carb meal that won't break the bank? I got the Spinach Salad with the "Catch of the day" selection (there were 5 to choose from, but I got Mahi Mahi), and really enjoyed it. The fish was perfectly grilled, moist/not dry, flavorful, and the salad it came on was juicy, tossed with a soy-citrus dressing, and perfect crunch from the peanuts in it. The oranges were a nice touch (see photo). I've been to the other location on Carmel Mountain twice and they somehow didn't get the poke bowl and fish and chips right, but this location was great! The kids loved their kids meals and my wife enjoyed the poke salmon bowl. PROS: Reasonable prices. Flavorful spinach salad and poke bowl. Good variety of options for fish selections (5 to choose from for my salad). CONS: Medium seating capacity if they're full it might get tight but when we were there it was wide open with plenty of seating. BOTTOM LINE: great option for reasonably priced seafood with fresh flavors. If you're looking for a nice salad, check out the spinach salad with a piece of "catch of the day." This is a great place for lunch! I order ahead because this place can get pretty busy. They have tables inside along with a few outside. It has a very casual vibe and the people have always been friendly during my quick visits. I usually order a poke bowl or the Salmon & Kale (picture.) The poke bowl is great. My usual order is the ahi tuna with wasabi-soy sauce and I add avocado. The Salmon & Kale bowl is by far my favorite. I get the ginger-teriyaki sauce on the side and add avocado. Their shrimp ceviche is a family favorite. The chips are so addicting! The sweet potato fries were just right, not too soggy or too crispy. There was a day I was craving tuna and gave their tuna melt a try. Being a lover of grilled cheese and tuna sandwiches, I thought I would love it. The first bite was, "I think I might like this." Then the second bite confirmed tuna melts are not for me. I split the sandwich up and they both tasted great. So if you're a tuna melt person, I recommend giving it a try. The bread was toasted perfectly and the tuna was good. Overall the food tastes great and their portions are perfect. I definitely recommend this place. If you are hankering for fish and chips then you NEED to go to the Fish District. It was the best fish and chips I've had almost ever! We got a three piece and shared it along with fried calamari and seaweed salad. The fried fish was hot right out of the fryer and incredibly crispy without being oily! The fried calamari was only meh. It would have been excellent of they had used the fried fish batter. The batter on the calamari was more like a bread crumb dredge so the calamari was dry, hard and chewy. The seaweed salad was good and typical, cold and vinegary in a good way. We sat inside and the air conditioner was cranked up pretty high and the music was pretty loud. SO I would recommend bringing a jacket with you if you are going to sit inside and don't expect to be able to have an intimate conversation with the loud music playing. They do have a few tables outside which might be a better option. I highly recommend it for the fish and chips and the seaweed salad. I would pass on the fried calamari unless they can make it with the fried fish batter. read more

Unfortunately I have learned too many times the hard way that if you don't look in the bag if you are taking out, you are going to get home and realize they got your order wrong. This place is very yummy!! Extremely happy with the ceviche and chips, just enough to pair with one taco if you can't decide. The coastal style battered shrimp taco was very well balanced. Hubby really enjoyed the steak tacos and the siracha that came on it. My daughter loved the chicken tenders but did run into a piece that was too "chewy." The ceviche had tons of flavor but no spice. Service is walk up and order then sit, they will bring the food to you:) When crowded it gets loud because it's a small place but nothing crazy. We will certainly be back here! read more

The oil is a bit heavier yes- as it compliments the slightly crunchy but flaky, crispy batter. Very crispy outside and piping hot fish inside which traveled well in to-go container. This one is much less crowded, but I suspect that's just because I'm not coming during the weekday lunch rush. I love the individual dishes here, but I also love the variety. It doesn't matter if you want something light or hearty, healthy or gut-busting: there's a tasty option for you! There are even choices for people who don't like fish. Personal favorites include the sandwich melts and poke. The pole bowl does not have the crazy variety of toppings that poke-focused shops have, but the simplicity is delicious. It comes with the *right* toppings. The only thing that's ever disappointed is the shrimp ceviche. But even that wasn't bad, just unexciting. But I consider that to still be pretty good! read more

I really enjoyed Fish District. Their menu is pretty robust but we stuck with the old and reliable fish and chips & shrimp and chips. They were both excellent. Unlike other places the shrimp were not all batter but large and tasty shrimp. The fish was really good as well and seemed fresh/flaky. The fries were beer battered and crispy. Each entree came with tarter sauce, and a special spicy mayo sauce. The spicy sauce was my go to. The only thing I didn't like was their boutique soda which didn't taste like any major brand. I had one taco with mahi, baja style and the seared ahi coastal style. They were fine, nothing spectacular, and the generous portion of fish makes them a good value. So sad that I couldn't love this place as much as I LOVE the one in carmel mountain ): I came in on a Sunday around 2PM and the restaurant was like a ghost town. The girl at the counter seemed very annoyed before I even talked to her. The place is very small but very clean. I ordered the Regular (3 oz) Salmon Poke Bowl with Quinoa instead of rice (extra $1). I got about 70% quinoa, 15% actual salmon poke, and the rest was avocado, pickled ginger, seaweed salad, and sliced cucumbers. Needless to say I was a bit disappointed. I got the house sauce and it was very greasy and oily. My friend ordered the Catch of the day plate with swordfish and it was even MORE disappointing portion-wise. It was a small sliver of actual fish with two sides. We got the sauteed vegetables (which were pretty mediocre as they were soggy and bland) and the battered fries (these were crispy and good and sort of made up for everything else). This place is tucked away in the corner next to Massage Envy in the same plaza as Orange Theory Fitness so there is tons of parking. One of the BEST fish spots I have been to in a while. My buddy and I both had a great experience eating here and would recommend it to anyone passing by or staying in the area! I got the marinated skirt steak bowl with quinoa which was amazing. The steak cooked and seasoned fo a perfection. I also got the battered shrimp taco in their "Baja" style, great flavor and an amazing taco but I would of rather went with another style of taco that they have to offer.
