Nice little casual joint located amidst a shopping center in Solana Beach. The menu is pretty good and the service is average. That said, the Mahi Burger and the fries here are amazing!

PLAZA EATS (3.5 stars) - FOOD: average - PRICE: fair - SERVICE: good - AMBIANCE: simple eatery with tables Located in a plaza in the sleepy neighborhood of Solano Beach is this little eatery serving up fried seafood. Not very busy but feel like the people that do come here are frequent flyers. BATTERED FISH - KIDS MEAL ($10.5) - Two fish pieces, served with a side/picked French fries, and a drink. What can I say? I eat like a bird. This meal was very filling that I had to pack half of it. It was plenty for a kids meal but I always wasn't devouring it because it was just okay-average. The batter on the fish tasted like plain fried donut (no seasoning and kind of cake-y flavor). The fries were crispy but plain. You do have to reply on the dips and condiments for flavor. I squirted lemon and tried both dipping sauces (dill dip which tasted like ranch and dill and tartar sauce; tartar sauce was a lot better). RECOMMEND CUP OF NEW ENGLAND CLAM CHOWDER ($7.5) - Clams, creme, potato, onion, carrot, celery. I was impressed with their clam chowder until after my meal I had the urgency to "drop the kids off at the poolside". It was hearty and creamy, not stringy on the clam meat, and full of flavor. Was it my favorite? it was good but I've had better. RECOMMEND (TUMS Recommended) Until the next review....

I looked at the menu before and knew I wanted the clam chowder and fish and chips on this chilly day. The place is a fast casual place. Plenty of seating, you can sit down and they have a QR menu and you can directly order from your seat. Very reasonable priced, the most expensive item on their menu is $16. The food was great, we ordered clam chowder cup with a Half tuna melt for an extra $6.50; and fish and chips. Would recommend this place, from the tartar sauce, the crispy exterior well seasoned soft on the inside fish and chips. The tuna melt wasn't super mayo-ish and bread was well toasted. They had a selection on non seafood items as well as wine/beer list.

For a local chain this location rocks. Right off the highway with easy access to the hiking trails. Some of the best and fish and chips that can be easily customized that one can get . The real surprise was the bowl of clam chowder. It looked small for a bowl and was not a good start but it was super packed with clams and minimal potatoes which a lot of places just cram it with. Sides were small but tasty. Can't complain about anything

I visited around 5 PM on a Saturday. The place was quiet with plenty of seating, and we were the only ones there. I ordered the chicken teriyaki, upgrading to quinoa instead of rice for $1, and opted for vegetables, though cabbage is also available as an option. The service was excellent, and the food was incredibly fresh and flavorful. It took less than 10 minutes for the dish to be served.

I absolutely love this place! We used to have one in Orange County, but it unfortunately closed. My favorites are there fish tacos and fish and chips. They are fried to absolute perfection! The staff is always kind and their service is quick. This location is not too busy on the weekends too.Cant wait to be back!

We started with cocktails, including the Prickly Lady, which was watery and completely tasteless. I then ordered the trio of dips, which were equally underwhelming--nothing memorable or distinctive, and no better than what you could buy at Trader Joe's or throw together in a blender in a couple of minutes. While we were trying our best to enjoy the drinks and appetizers, we also couldn't help but notice the very blah ambiance around us. It was quiet, cold, and insincere. There was truly nothing charming about the place and the whole vibe felt off. That should have been our first red flag, but we tried to ignore it to make the most of our rare date night. For my entrée, I ordered the branzino piccata. This was especially disappointing because branzino is one of my favorite dishes, and when you commit to a whole fish, there's no turning back. While I'm used to navigating bones, I found a bone in nearly every other bite, which made the dish unpleasant to eat. Worse, the fish itself was incredibly dry and completely lacking in flavor, accompanied by nothing more than a few warm cherry tomatoes. There was no cohesive sauce or flavor profile to speak of. Dessert followed the same theme. The s'mores cake was also dry, with a barely-there chocolate ganache center and a marshmallow topping that was honestly laughable. Unfortunately, the food wasn't even the worst part of the evening. At the end of the meal, we were told we could not use a gift card despite having called 24 hours in advance to confirm it would be accepted when we made our reservation. This led to an interaction with the owner and chef that was shocking and completely unprofessional. He caused a scene, raised his voice, and yelled at my husband and me, the paying customers. He repeatedly cut me off mid-sentence while allowing my husband to finish speaking, which felt blatantly disrespectful. When I calmly asked if there was anything he could do for us, given that he's in the hospitality business, his response was simply: "No. You can pay the whole bill and leave." I have truly never been treated this way at any restaurant in my life. Between the consistently dry, flavorless food and the hostile, misogynistic behavior from the owner, I am genuinely shocked this place is still in business. Sadly, the restaurant seems to be run exactly the way the food is cooked--poorly.

We got seated quickly in their beautiful outdoor patio area with our 2 pups! The food was absolutely delicious! The wonton tostada, DEFINTELY my favorite!! I wish we got more orders! I was apprehensive about the tangerine in it at first, but it brought such a delicious sweet flavor to the tostada, literally devoured it so fast lol 20/10! The bone marrow quesadillas were good. The bone marrow was juicy, melt in your mouth flavor! I like to add a squeeze of lime on the marrow as well, tastes so good that way. The quesadilla itself was okay, tbh I could've done without it as it wasn't anything amazing. The bulgogi burger is on their monthly special menu! It's listed as sliders but when we came, our server informed us they only have it as a regular burger for the time being which wasn't an issue for us! It was delicious & filled with so much flavor! I loved the crunch from all the veggies inside as well. The fries it came with had some sort of sugar salt which wasn't my favorite, but still good. Overall we had an amazing first experience and will definitely be back & bring our family/friends!

The spicy tuna was delicious, the crispy wonton, mandarin orange pieces, and remaining flavors all went perfectly well together. Better than my two tacos. Our drinks were made well and it was a fun evening with the soccer game playing. We had to wait a half hour for a table, and it was worth it. The Baja fish was grilled and a little dry for my taste, but the mango salsa helped. They fry the cheese to their tortillas which was a yummy touch and these tacos were big and heavily portioned. Chicken Al Pastor taco had an amazing flavor on the meat, which was definitely seasoned well. Getting out of there took a lot of time as the restaurant was completely full, and we had to chase down our waiter to get the receipt and pay, fortunately we were not in a rush. Thank you I'll be back!!

Steak 48 absolutely lived up to that calling as my wife and I were celebrating our 10th anniversary together. I booked a reservation 2 weeks out online. Steak 48 has a strict business casual dress code. From the moment we walked in, the service was fantastic from our hostess to busboy to waiter. We were treated like VIPs which really elevated the whole experience. The interior is immaculately classic with that "old money" subtle vibe. In addition to a world-class butchery, steak 48 also has a fantastic fresh seafood bar. As with any elevated dining experience, my philosophy and recommendation is always to order a wide variety of dishes and curate them in partnership with recommendations from our waiter. This experience was no different. My wife and I ordered the house bread, roasted Brussels sprouts, and hasselback potatoes for sides and appetizers. For mains we indulged in a dry aged prime bone-on rib eye, shrimp, and each ordered a lobster tail from the fresh seafood bar. Cocktails were also ordered. We ended with a complimentary anniversary dessert. The highlights were the dry aged rib eye and the lobster tail. It was a feast worthy of a king. I will most certainly be back to steak 48 to celebrate life's next milestone with my wonderful wife. We did self-parking for our first visit but I think I will use the VIP red carpet valet service at our next visit. Sometimes it's worth indulging to reward yourself for hard work. Highly recommend steak 48!
