It almost seemed microwaved. Fried calamari had no flavor either. The breading was decent, but flavorless. My order of fried clam strips was not what I'm used to. I've had clam strips in Rhode Island that were actual clams, fried and flavored so well that it was the star dish. It could have been better. We ordered to go. The inside looked dingy so it's not meant to be a sit in restaurant. Overall, from this experience, I would say the food can definitely be improved, but I would look elsewhere.

On a positive note, our waitress was friendly and professional, and the young man who brought out our food was pleasant as well. The food also arrived quickly. Since this was my first visit to the area, I would like to explore other local restaurants before returning. Still, I would not be opposed to giving Oyster Bay Restaurant & Bar another chance and trying a different entrée--possibly the swordfish.

I asked the bartender if these were the normal presentation of the fries she said "oh yes they're hand cut fries" my question would be hand cut when and fried when? They were overdone and mushy. . And after exchange the bartender adopted a pissy attitude. Here's my thing to the managers/owners of this establishment: I have worked in various forms in hospitality and customer service. I'm also an older person, consumer, frequent visitor of restaurants and bars. Take this however you will. It's a Tuesday afternoon... The servers and the service and the food should be exactly the fucking same as it is on Friday and Saturday night. Feel free to contact me if I said anything out of line. PS I'm an interim innkeeper in Cape May and I will definitely be steering people away from your restaurant even though I've had decent experiences in the past. There's too much competition out there for too few dollars. Smarten up

The Fish House is a fun, laid-back spot right on Sunset Beach and definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a casual meal with a great view. Just know that they don't take reservations. We arrived around 5:00 p.m. on a Thursday and still had about a 45-minute wait, so plan accordingly. We were seated at a table right in the sand, which adds to the beach atmosphere. Each table has an umbrella, but depending on the time of day, part of your group may be looking directly into the sun, so I'd recommend bringing sunglasses. Also, keep an eye on your food--the seagulls are bold and won't hesitate to swoop in if given the chance! I ordered the chicken sandwich, and it was very good. The sandwich was generously sized, so I ate the first half as-is and ended up ditching the bun for the second half because it was just a bit too much bread. The fries were crispy and tasty as well. The service was another highlight. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and quick with drink refills throughout the meal, which made for a very enjoyable dining experience. One of the biggest draws here is the location. If you can time your visit around sunset, I imagine it's an incredible place to have dinner while watching the sun go down over the water. We finished our meal about an hour before sunset this time, so we'll have to plan a little better on our next visit. We finished things off with dessert, trying the house-made ice cream (the flavors rotate, so your server will let you know what's available) and the cheesecake. The cheesecake was especially good--light, fluffy, and a perfect way to end the meal. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely come back. Between the beachfront setting, good food, attentive service, and the chance to catch a beautiful sunset, The Fish House is an easy place to recommend. read more
