We had a 24 hour layover in Orlando from Cancun back to Texas. This place was a stones throw from our hotel so we decided to drop in for dinner. They had live music inside this night but we decided to sit on the patio since it was cold inside. Two of us had the catfish dinner and the other diner ordered the bacon cheese burger. The catfish was amazing, it is exactly what I expected being in Florida. I was going to go to high tide Harry's but they were closed luckily they had tagged this restaurant on their page and I decided to give it a try! I was very please from start to finish. You seat yourself but they were very attentive and came right over. I got a fried fish sandwich (grouper specifically) and my bf got the gator bites. We both started with Caesar salads and the dressing was different and more vinaigrette-ey but I really liked it! My sandwich was really good fresh and hot. Wish the breading/seasoning was a bit more but that's a personal preference. Bf loved his gator bites as well. The tartar sauce was yummy and the prices were very reasonable. I was fortunate to go on a Tuesday, sat at the bar and had impeccable service from a seasoned bartender (her name escapes me)who only works there Tuesday and Thursday. I had their special of the night, blackened red fish sandwich with crinkle cut fries. The sandwich was fantastic! I'd get it again and again! The fries were ok. Crispy, but not hot. My wife and I did a family night here at Fish on Fire. There is live music Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The music was great and the food was great. This is a "hometown feel" seafood place. They have seafood, wings, salads, soup, tacos, baskets, and hand formed hamburgers. My daughter had the shrimp basket and my wife had the chicken finger basket. These were "lightly" breaded and very good. My wife and daughter loved them. Comes with a side or two. My stepson has the steak and ordered beans and corn as sides. The steak can rival other well known steak places. He said it was well cooked and juicy. I had the pulled pork and chicken plate. The chicken was great, just enough sauce for me... and the collard greens are made fresh every day. Don't even get me started on the slaw.... one of the best I've had anywhere... order the slaw if you are into that. I forgot to mention that we come here for the hush puppies. The menu is like a good sports bar meets a Carolina fish camp--a great selection of food from wings to grilled tuna. I over-ordered like I usually do in an attempt to sample as much as I could--I started with the BBQ/Buffalo shrimp. Wow!! Steamed shrimp in a spicy, Buffalo-like sauce--good way to start the meal. However, I would recommend easing up on the shrimp and loaf of buttered loaf of crisp bread, if you want to anything else. I then had a blacked mahi sandwich was very good. Great service for such a busy location. There are business people and locals coming in and out of here all night. It's right next to the freeway and a hotel so that is no surprise. The fish is fantastic and so is the fried gator. Shrimp was a little on the meh side smelled off but tasted great so yeah. Waitress kept the glasses full all night even after the food was gone and we were all just sitting around socializing. Not a quiet place and they are setup with a stage for live music although I didn't witness any of that the night I was there. So I would call this a nice Bar that serves food and has really nice people working the tables and the bar. Super clean restrooms. It's a repeat for me. Some places shine by not trying to be anything other than what they are and this is one of those places. Side note: lots of old timers cruising in and out of here with classic cars and nice old Harley's. Free auto show is a plus in my opinion. read more

Food came out fairly quickly and it arrived at our table about 15 mins after we ordered. We had the tacos, 1 shrimp taco and 1 mahi taco. Both the shrimp and the mahi were cooked & seasoned perfectly! Totally recommend getting this is you like seafood. She greeted us by dropping off menus at table, not even a "good afternoon or welcome" Then completely forgot about us after dropped off food, didn't check to see if needed anything, no refills on drinks...nothing! We had to ask another server to help us get our check! Debbie was friendly and apologetic for her coworker, filled our water and cleared our plates. This place was recommended by our hotel/airport shuttle driver as it was within walking distance of the hotel we were staying in. As the only other options within walking distance were to get some "all day dirty hot dogs" at the 7-11 or the McRib at the neighboring McDonald's, we thought we'd check it out. There were four of us and what we ordered were a good sampling of what the menu had to offer: I ordered the fried catfish platter, which came with two sides. (I ordered black rice and beans and fries), my wife ordered a bacon cheeseburger, our friends ordered a grilled cheese with a side of fries and a grilled mahi sandwich with fries. My dinner was awesome! The fish was fresh, flakey and delicious. The fries were excellent and the black beans and rice is probably the best I've ever had. I think the next time we come here, I'm going to order black beans and rice, doused in hot sauce, served in the deepest, frisbee sized bowl they have, lean back in my seat, set the bowl on my belly like an Otter and gorge myself. (you're welcome for the visual) My wife LOVED her cheeseburger. It looked delicious. I asked her if it was as good as it looked, she responded with an emphatic "Yes!" My friend said the Mahi fish sandwich was great. He finished it in record time. We sat there "fat 'n happy" at the conclusion of our meal, dreading the 1/4 mile walk back to the hotel. (11/26/2021). Came for a late-ish dinner after picking up a friend from the airport. For being hotel-adjacent, place seemed to be full of locals, there was a real cracker vibe to the place. It was almost like the start of a bad joke, "a black, a Jew, and an Asian walk into a bar...". It's seat yourself, when we went inside. The eardrum-busting Van Halen on the speakers drove us out of the empty dining room to the crowded patio. Our choices were narrowed to sitting between the table of 6 drunk dudes playing some fish hook game yelling and screaming at the wall and the 3 drunk dudes smoking under the "no smoking" sign. Yeah, I know it's Florida, but come on. Started with Smoked Fish Dip, ubiquitous in Florida. It was tuna and mahi mahi, finely flake, hastily blended (still large white chunks of cream cheese), decent amount of cayenne pepper in it. Was served with the obligatory Ritz crackers, and some welcomed celery sticks and cucumbers. Shrimp on Fire were tasty enough, easy enough to please most, it's bacon, cheddar, and shrimp with a cup of butter for dipping, stray jalapeño dice or two. Our visitor went for the Allie's Gator, of course. The pieces were hard-fried, dense, chewy (as alligator meat usually is), small and uneven, but we'll-seasoned and crispy coated. The White Fish Tacos were battered and fried, mild flaky white fish (from frozen, some freezer burn to it), either cod or haddock in a cold flour tortilla, came dressed as described, pretty bland. Black beans and rice side actually probably the best of the plate, highly seasoned, shredded pork, well-cooked. There were 4 beers on tap (short list). Our server was nice, but looked like he was kinda desperate to get out of there. We ate up and high-tailed it ourselves, the din and smoke getting a little overwhelming. The menu appears abbreviated from pre-COVID times with an increase to items overall by about $3.00. Wondering if the flap from the owner's Facebook post about lazy America has died down yet or not. I like Fish on Fire because of the ambiance and the people who hang out here. My friend is a "regular" and used to live like a block away. Perhaps I have a biased opinion but this one of the places where the Orlando locals hang out. Seriously not many places in Orlando (as opposed to the coasts) where they will "cook your catch." I visited FOF after an absence of 10 years. I used to come here often and first discovered it while on an Army Reserve weekend just down the road. I was a customer before the fire that destroyed it and led to its renovation. Well, I always ordered the blackened Mahi sandwich as my favorite.
