tl;dr If you're looking for a solid seafood spot near the harbor, make sure to check out Fish! We came around lunch time on a Saturday. I was a little wary of how long the wait would be since they don't take reservations and the COVID restrictions were recently lifted. There was a line, but it moved quite quickly. They put menus on the wall, while you wait which was a nice way to choose your items before you get to the counter. They do have daily specials that are only listed once you get inside. Once you order, they give you a number and you can find a table. There's a few tables inside, but the majority of tables were outside. It was a bit breezy, but they had heat lamps that did the trick. Boston white clam chowder: Nice flavors that comes with oyster crackers and a slice of bread. The chowder had great flavors and was not too Fish Reuben: With the rye, sauerkraut and dressing, I was initially a bit wary that the flavors would overpower the black cod. I was pleasantly surprised that it was on the mild side and the ingredients paired well with the cod! The sandwich also comes with a large side of fries. Hugely expensive and food below mediocre. My friend is Italian and said the linguine was rubbery and she couldn't eat a second bite of it. My fried oysters were mushy and unappealing. I don't mind lining ip to put my order in, but if you're gonna pass yourself off as a cute hole in the wall with a great view, eating on picnic tables, don't be gouging us. The atmosphere is very nice, we sat by the water and enjoyed a pretty view. Service was fast once we ordered but the line was long. We ordered the clam dip (7/10), fish & chips (8/10) and the pasta w/clams (5/10). For the prices of the food, I wasn't entirely impressed with the quality. We had just flown into town, crossed the iconic GGBridge and were starving! Decided to check out Sausalito waterfront and found Fish Restaurant. I was so inspired by my meal today, I had to come back on Yelp and RAVE about Fish. My clam chowder didn't have a single grain of sand in it, my kid was fighting for more. The fish and chips (minus the chips add salad), was SO SURPRISING and AMAZING, it will be a meal I remember. The house salad had beets, radish, and kumquats!!! Each bite was a flavor bomb of joy. Friendly staff and service. A small wait to order, but food comes fast. I can say, this is my favorite Bay Area restaurant. Love love love it!!!!! read more

I don't usually feel like I need to give a half star reviews, but I think this would be a 3 1/2 if it were possible. I wanted to like Fish better. The crowd, the harborfront setting, the promise of fish-market freshness, all made me think we would be really enjoying our seafood meal here. But I really don't feel it was good value for money. I'll start with the much loved fish and chips. Each of my pieces of fish was about 2/3 batter to 1/3 actual fish. I'd guess maybe 1 to 1 1/2 ounces per piece. And I could forgive that if the fish was super fresh or distinctive, but I had a hard time telling that. I didn't have a very strong flavor, fresh or otherwise. It could've been fresh, but it very easily could've just been the same cod that I buy in bulk bags at Costco. The rest of the plate was a double jumbo size portion of wedge fries. These were very good, but at $22 a plate, the fish should be the star of the show, not the humble potato. I felt the same way about the smoked fish Reuben. This was delicious, but sized like sliders. Each half of the sandwich would gone in three or four bites. Most of the plate was side dish, a coleslaw that had the cool feature of fish sauce added to it for salt and umami. But again, $24...for mostly cabbage. Finally the fast turn concept that you'd find at your friendly neighborhood Chipotle was great to enable faster table turnover, but didn't feel relaxing and that undercut the higher prices. I guess in the end I just don't see what the hype is all about. Did I enjoy my meal? Yes. Will I hurry back next time I'm nearby? Nope. I think it's one and done. read more

came on a weekend and waited in line to order for about 30-45 minute. once we ordered we found a table inside since it was hot but there's many nice seats outside! clam chowder was really good ! the fish and chips was good and crispy but did get a bit heavy. also ordered the clams and linguine which was really good and really enjoyed the amount of clams added to this ! also had the poke and chips. poke was really fresh and went well with the chips. would come back to try some other stuff on their menu! read more

Went here on a sunny Saturday for lunch and was really impressed. The menu has tons of options, all the classics like oysters, crab rolls, and fish and chips plus really creative options like a salmon bao buns and a fried fish smash burger. We sat at an outside table and our oysters came out super quickly and they were some of the best I've had. We also got a bbq albacore sandwich and a smoked trout Rueben which were incredible! I have loved fish and chips since I was a little kid, and I still do, but these days I have to watch out for my cholesterol levels so I don't get to eat it as often as is like.... but when I do, it had better be really darn good! The reason I really liked this place was because of its location just by the water, with views of the bay, and a large outdoor area with patio seating.... and yes, technically you're supposed to live up and place your order before sitting at a table, but very few people seem to follow this rule. Anyway, we got there a good 15 minutes before their opening, and thank goodness there was only one group of people ahead of us in the line. As the opening neared, the line grew longer, and after they opened the doors, the line just grew longer and longer.... so be prepared to stand in line to get inside to place your order. Since we got there early, we managed to pick a very nice table by the water's edge... and away from everybody else. So, since we really wanted to try as many items on the menu as possible, the four of us decided to go family style and ordered the Guacamole and Chips, two Fish and Chips, the Fish Tacos, a grilled California King Salmon over salad, a Tuna Melt Sandwich, and an order of Shoestring Fries..... yea, we probably ordered too many fried potatoes this day since the fish and chips already came with chips.... but I just wanted to give it a try even though I knew we likely wouldn't be able to finish everything. I thought the fish and chips was yummy good....a wonderful batter that was perfectly crisp, not too thick, not too oily, not too salty... unlike some other reviewers who complained that their fish was bland, all I will say is....white fish is typically very mild in flavor anyway....that's what malt vinegar, and/or ketchup, and/or hot sauce is for! All the seafood was really fresh and tasted delicious.... this was definitely a very pleasant experience to get to eat all this outdoors ,right by the water, on a wonderfully gorgeous sunny day, and with amazing views! What more can you ask for, eh? Yea, the prices are kind of high, but I guess it's the way these good restaurants stay afloat during these difficult times, and I'm willing to still support them just so I get to go back and visit once again in the future. Just one last comment about waiting for a table. What really bothered me is that when we were done eating, a family with young children were waiting for our table, which I had gestured to them that the table was theirs. Then, these two grown jerks rushed ahead of them and immediately sat down at the table and rudely told the family that it was their table! Seriously? Are there really these types of wild animals still roaming the streets of this awesomely beautiful city? Unbelievable. Anyway, thank goodness for the restaurant staff who witnessed these Neanderthals' behavior and had them move to another table. read more

It's casual, it's delicious, it's quality, it's quantity (!), it's just a good time here. There's usually a line when it opens so I recommend giving yourself some wait time, but not too bad. I love sitting outside. Despite it being right by the bay, the sun was always shinning the last few times I went. The water and boats are just gorgeous on a sunny day. The parking is easy. Fun for kids or casual hangouts. I've tried several items on their menu - some are my go-to items and others are seasonal/weekly specials. Some of my favorites are their queso dip, linguine with clams, calamari/octopus salad, and bombaloni beans. The bombaloni beans are packed with flavor! So good! I usually get a separate order of this to-go so I can have it the next day with sourdough. Next time you're hiking in the area, bookmark this place for a post-hike treat! read more

The food and service here is a definite 10/10. The workers are sweet and are happy to serve you. The food is amazing, i got the fish and chips and it was so fresh as well as the potato wedges they were crispy and flavorful. My boyfriend got the salmon sandwich which i tried and it was so good (i usually don't like salmon). We shared the clam chowder and that was had great flavor as well. As an avid fish and chips fan, I actually regretted getting the fish and chips here. The chips were really fantastic and at a perfect level of crispiness, but the fish got boring after one piece. The lemon slice was too small or not juicy enough to substantially cover all of the fish pieces. This dish was missing coleslaw, something more "fresh", or something with more of a kick to offset the monotonous flavor and texture of fish and potato. read more

This is a lovely restaurant overlooking the marina in Sausalito. The ambience is very casual -- you order cafeteria style and then they bring out the food to you while you sit on wooden benches. The service was no frills but polite and efficient. The food was delicious. Clam chowder made very much in the New England style and served with sourdough bread and crackers. We shared three dishes. A rainbow trout over pasta, grilled calamari also over pasta (for each of these dishes there was an option to have it served over salad or pasta), and a squid ink risotto with clams. All three dishes were excellent although my favorite was the grilled calamari. The pasta was also cooked just right al dente, with a simple sauce and lemon. The plates given to us were so dirty that we had to tell them to change them. The fish and chips - the batter is way too thick, no taste, and not good. Cerviche had potato in it?! Really?! Taco bao - not impressed. Strawberry cobblers are not that good either what saves these cobblers is the vanilla and matcha ice cream. This is between a 3 and 4...would give 3.5 stars if I could. Good: Parking is super easy as it's situated in a big spacious lot. Views are beautiful if you want to be right along the boat docks. They seemed to have a bunch of picnic benches but we came while outdoor dining was/is closed still. No so good: My husband gave his fish & chips a 3/5. He picked off most of the breading because it was soaked in oil. The french fries were good! Crispy and yummy, just didn't make up for what the fish lacked. The clam chowder was good and I enjoyed the substantial clam pieces in it. We spent about $55 for a bowl of clam chowder, a half Caesar salad and one fish & chips entree. I'd say the food really was just a 3/5 for the price. I appreciate their efforts to source sustainable food though, that drew us here. FYI - most of the area is just blacktop surrounded by cars and boats. There is a small grass area at the end of the lot with several spaced out benches, but not the type of field you'd really picnic in. It's muddy with gravel mixed in. Definitely plan on eating in your car with a view of the boats (saw several people doing so), at one of the benches if there's one open, or take it to go. read more

Excellent fish and chips! After a long day exploring and hiking around marin headlands my friends told me about this place and we all went for a post hike feast. They said the fish and chips are amaaaazing so I had to try. Usually at seafood restaurants I get oysters and chowder or cioppino. Well they were out of cioppino and they kept raving about the fish and chips so I got that and clam chowder. Wow their fish is soooo delicious! It's 3 pretty good size pieces and it comes with steak fries which I got with malt vinegar. Also whatever tartar sauce they use is so bomb! It tastes like pesto and tartar sauce mixed together. The clam chowder was ok, mine was mostly potatoes. But man did I scarf down those fish and chips. They also had eagle rock on draft so I tried that and it was delicious! First time trying it. Foamy, super cold, crisp and refreshing. Perfect after a long hike. I'd love to go back here when outdoor seating is open again. They have tables outside right next to the water facing the boats. Kind of expensive. I paid $55 for the small soup, fish and chips and 1 beer. Honestly it was worth it. We stopped in at the Fish Restaurant on our recent trip to Sonoma. I chose this from the recommendations. It sounded like a nice place to go. You walk in and order your food and then find a table. We chose a table on the pier next to the water. It was a great location and we had a beatify day to be outside. I ordered the fish of the day, black cod with pasta and my boyfriend ordered the Washington oysters and halibut fish with salad. My cold was good but not cooked well enough. My pasta was so spicy that I could not eat it at all. The halibut was good and prepared perfectly. The salad was huge and had a lot of vegetables and fruits in it. Overall, I would say we had a great time due to the atmosphere but the food was not the best. read more

Would recommend getting the crab roll with fries! The roll itself was buttery and stuffed with generous amounts of crab. The linguine with clams was unique in that it's more like a noodle soup than your typical pasta with sauce. Not sure how I feel about the pasta that was used in this dish. It's been several years since I've been to Fish, and I'm glad I decided to go again. You can't go wrong with the crab roll. It's loaded with nice big chunks of crab meat. The roll is so soft and fresh. The amount of butter used is just right. It comes with fries, and the fries are so good too. I love the thinner cut fries. The outside has a nice crunchy texture but tender inside. The amount of food you get is quite a lot. I also had the clam chowder. It was good but not memorable like the crab roll. My son had the tuna melt. There were large chunks of tuna mixed with a relish and very tasty as well. The relish was a tart relish, not a sweet relish. The tuna melt also came with fries. We took the ferry from San Francisco to Sausalito, and then walked to Fish. (This was a long walk along a busy road -- if we come back, we'll bike over instead.) Tired, sunburnt, and unbearably hangry, we were elated to finally make it to this restaurant around 2 pm. However, we were unfortunately greeted by the sight of a colossal line stretching from the entrance well into the parking lot. At Fish, expect pretty good food and long wait times well into the afternoon. Highs: - My order of fish and chips was big, and the fish was cooked well -- crispy but not oily on the outside, and soft on the inside. The chips are thick cut steak fries, which I liked. This dish ($24) costs slightly above average (I think) for the Bay Area. - The clam chowder was good. I wished it was creamier and richer in flavor. More importantly, I think you should have the option to order it in a bread bowl. - Lots of outdoor seating. Half of it has a nice view of the dock and water. - Pretty quick service once you place your order at the counter. Lows: - Huge lines at lunchtime and in the afternoon. Stumbled upon this place after a visit to Muir Woods. We arrived right at 11 and the line was already past the gate! We ordered the crab louie and fish and chips and boy were we stuffed! The salad was pricey but they really pack on the crab with chunks of claw meat too! The fish and chips had a little too much batter for me but the fish was really fresh. They also give you a ton of fries! You will definitely have an excess of fries by the end of the meal. Super popular for a reason!
