I know I've said it a lot in my reviews, but I genuinely mean it when I say this place has been in my list of bookmarks for YEARS. Ever since I first heard about Fish oh so long ago, I'd been wanting to try them, but just never had much of a reason to come here. Other than to, you know, eat here. However, I had so much faith, in fact, that I even recommended this place to my buddy before I even made my way here. Thankfully, they didn't let me down, as both he and his wife loved the food here! More importantly, now that I've been, so do we! Although it takes a little bit of work to find them (they're on Bridgeway, but away from the touristy part and set back in a marina), Fish is well worth the effort. Not only is the vibe cozy and relaxed, but they've got a ton of seating both inside and out (love sitting by the water!). And, of course, the menu is awesome, as it's filled with so many options, from chowders, raw oysters, and salads to seafood entrees, pastas, and, of course, fish & chips. Plus, they also have menu boards highlighting the day's selection of raw oysters, crab, fresh fish, special entrees, "fish bits", and desserts that are just as interesting and unique! -- WHITE CHOWDER - Traditional New England Clam Chowder with Surf Clams, Cream, Bacon, Potatoes, Onion, Celery, White Wine, and Dried Herbs This was terrific! Although it could've been slightly thicker/chunkier, I liked the consistency of this - smooth but with chunks of potatoes. I also really liked how tender and meaty the clam was, too! -- RAW OYSTERS - Shigoku Oysters (WA) I had never even heard of Shigoku oysters before these, but they were terrific! The oysters were about medium sized with deep shells, which made them super to eat and I liked how they had a bit of sweetness and a bright finish to them. -- WHOLE ROASTED DUNGENESS CRAB with Tomato Sugo Drawn From Roasted Crab Shells over Soft Polenta I don't often order whole crabs like this at restaurants, but this was undeniably tasty. Aside from how messy this was to eat, the crab was sweet, the legs were pretty meaty, and I really liked how the sugo helped reinforce the taste of crab with the polenta. -- PASTA CON VONGOLE - Clams Served over Fresh Housemade Organic Egg and Semolina Linguine with Olive Oil, Butter, White Wine, Garlic, and Red Chili Flake LOVED that they didn't skimp on the clams, which were all so good, as well as the sauce and how it had a slight kick to it. The pasta had a very bouncy bite, too, but I wish there had been more of it and that it was able to hold onto the sauce better. -- FISH & CHIPS - Crispy Beer-Battered Local Rock Cod Served with Housemade Tartar Sauce and Wedge Fries Maybe my hopes/expectations were too high, as this was more decent than amazing. Mainly, while the batter was crispy-ish on the outside, it was a bit mushy on the inside. Still, the cod itself was pretty good and I liked the fries - crisp and not too potato-y. -- GRILLED CALIFORNIA HAMACHI with Housemade Pasta, Shishito Pepper-Cilantro Pesto, and Parmesan I'm so glad we pivoted to this when we saw it on the board - it was so good! The piece of hamachi was sizable, moist, and flavorful while the pasta was just as bouncy and held onto the sauce. If only they didn't use cilantro in their pesto (blech). Despite how Fish's food didn't amaze like how I had hoped it would, I think that has a lot more to do with the high hopes (expectations?) that had built up from the anticipation of finally coming here than anything else. Really, the only thing that might have been an actual bummer was the Fish & Chips, but even then, it was still notably better than others I've had. A popular spot! It operates like a fast casual restaurant but it's located on the water and served up great food. I had fish tacos and they were delicious, but the platter is small. If you're hungry, I'd add an appetizer or a salad. My daughter had a burger and it had a nice charred taste and came with insanely good fries. Was skeptical because of the 3.8 rating but I had to try it for myself. And boy am I glad I didn't listen to these reviews! Everything was tasty. My wife had the poke bowl, my mom had the fish smash burgers and my dad had the cheeseburger. The smoke on his patty was really awesome! If I wanted to nitpick about anything, MAYBE the guac could have used a little more salt. Don't believe the rating, I'm giving it 5 stars because it definitely deserves better! read more

So good we came back twice over Mother's Day weekend On Friday the wait was 15 minutes, and the food came out quickly. We were hungry and in a rush to get to our boat rental and didn't even notice the specials. We got the red chowder, white chowder, soft shell bao tacos, fish tacos, pasta con vongole, and Louie salad for a group of 5. We took everything to go and had it on the boat. Everything was great especially the white chowder, fish tacos, and soft shell crab bao tacos, except the pasta con vongole was too salty. After looking at the pictures we decided we have to come back on Saturday. On Saturday the wait was 50 minutes, and the line went all the way around the fence. So many of the specials including the whole fish, which we went back for, got taken off of the list while we were waiting...tragic. If you're going on the weekend beware!! We ate in at the restaurant this time as we didn't have a reservation to get to. The outside was pretty hot and there's some seating inside and also in an adjacent room that nobody seemed to notice. We were still able to get 2 specials: rockfish ceviche and dumplings. The dumplings were so good - their homemade chili sauce is sweet and a mild spicy that builds. This is definitely one of the more popular lunch spots in Sausalito, so expect a line -- especially on a sunny weekend. Very casual setup -- you order at the counter first and then find your own seating. Thankfully there's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating so finding a table wasn't difficult despite the crowd. They have a standard printed menu along with a pretty extensive list of daily specials. I ordered the squid (one of the fish specials that day) over a Caesar salad and really enjoyed it. Everyone in my group seemed happy with their entrees too. We also ordered an assortment of oysters to share. One note was that the waitress dropped them off did so abruptly without explaining which oysters were which. I have been meaning to update my review. Fish is delicious. Pick something from their daily fresh menu. Our recent visit was exceptional. My only gripe if there is one is that when paying with a credit card, the lowest option to add tip is 25%. The food is pricey because it's fresh and you can honestly taste how good it is. So maybe the tip could go to checking in to see if people need more water or an extra plate to share food or to clear tables near you so the birds aren't hovering. Fish in Sausalito is tucked away and has always been a (if ya know ya know) spot for me, although judging by the lines, the secrets been out :) There's parking and interior/exterior seating by the water ~ bringing the kiddo for this trip, we actually sat inside with a highchair. They also have a kiddo menu, and we ordered the best fish stick (and fries) plate. So hearty! For the level of expense each dish is on the menu, we def never leave still hungry. This is a type of spot where you order at the register, grab your number, and find a seat. The service is great (we had a few spills), and it's just a relaxing place to venture to. The fish smashburger comes with two patties of seasoned trout with white American cheese, pickled onions, and house-made tartar sauce. Yum! Very innovative and quite honestly, the first time I've seen smash burgers with fish! And the crispy bao tacos came with Korean buttermilk fried cod in a Kewpie chili sauce with garnish..delicious. I've been to Fish a couple of times, and the food, customer service, and ambiance never disappoint. I especially love how family-friendly it is. My usual order is the fish and chips and a clam chowder bowl--they're always so good. This time, we also tried the crab rangoon empanadas and a poke bowl. Everything on the menu has a twist or a special ingredient--we had a hard time choosing. I have eaten here probably 20-30 times and it never disappoints. Seriously. I do not exaggerate. It's Fish. So fresh and so good.... Allow me to explain. The setting: Sausalito on the Bay is a short ferry boat ride across from the SF Ferry Building or the first exit when driving over the Golden Gate Bridge. Fish sits along the waterfront near a marina filled with beautiful boats and a wondrous view of Belvedere and Angel Island. It feels like it was once an old fish hut or a bait shack in its former days. They have a fantastic outdoor patio with seating, and a cozy back room filled with comfy chairs and a book nook. The food: I consistently order the following items, for not because I do not wish to try anything different, but because I love these dishes so much and I cannot get enough of them. The tuna melt is perhaps the finest tuna fish sandwich I have ever had the privilege of knowing. The portion is huge, enough for two people to easily share, served on thick sourdough toast, and with your accompanying side choice of french fries or asian flavored coleslaw. The fish and chips is a proper English style batter with a generous portion that can easily be shared by two or more. Delish. There are two variations of Clam Chowder; a traditional New England style and a red Portuguese stew that is delicious and anything but spicy. Both are good, although I wish this was served in a sourdough bread bowl. For a shared dish, try the kettle chips with the old bay seasoning. So yum. Side note: I have never tried the trout hot dog, which I'm strangely intrigued by, nor have I tried the fish Reuben sandwich. Maybe one day.... They also have a crab Louie salad that looks amazing. They have a few beer and wine offerings. The staff are accommodating and friendly. The prices are fair for the quality and freshness of the product. Fish. My friend made a recommendation to try this fish house in Sausalito. We took the ferry from SF, from the landing we did a 30 minute power walk to the restaurant. Boy was it worth the jaunt. Away from the main Sausalito bay tourist strip, we arrived standing in line for about 30 minutes, but once reached the counter, it was easy, menu was straight forward. We ordered the popular Fish and Chips and White Chowder. Worth the wait, hype is real, solid well seasoned dishes, tasty, crispy chips, the Chowder was comforting soup. Weather was so nice, 70 degrees outdoor seating, relaxing. Overall, good dishes, next time will try other entrees or starters to share, service was prompt and efficient.
