Hi, hello, I don't understand the rating for this place because I look forward to eating here every single year my family comes to San Clemente. This spot is basically the "snack shack" on the pier in San Clemente. Our family usually sets up shop on the beach near T-street, but we make the walk over here to grab lunch every day on the beach. The lines sometimes can be a little long, but they go pretty quickly. And ice cream has become such a hot commodity here that they have a separate pickup spot for ice cream. They also have plenty of seating (none in the shade though) so you can either eat your food there or you can take it with you to-go. I always order the cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger honestly reminds me of in-n-out and honestly, nothing better than a cheeseburger at the beach! I also LOVE their soft serve ice cream in a cone. I mean, it's $3! And they always stack it. I usually get the chocolate and vanilla swirl. This past time we went, they didn't do the best job in swirling them so I wasn't able to get a photo, but I have gotten good pics of them in the past. Seriously, nothing better than soft serve ice cream on the beach. Like I said, my family and I have been coming here for yeaaaars and it's one of our must-do things. read more

Right on the edge of the pier, there is this food stand that offers burgers, drinks, and ice cream. I feel like it's a bit unethical to serve soda drinks without lids, considering you're right by the beach. I totally understand that there's eco-friendly reasons to do this, but there's also reusable plastic for lids. I think they intentionally do not give Lids to drinks so people can spell their drink in the sand or get in their drink, and they are forced to order another one. To add, their service is fairly rude. There is minimal interaction, and I still felt all of the staff was pretty standoffish and almost felt you were bothering them by speaking to them. I strongly get this place and one star rating. I don't feel like they have good business practices and don't even have a there are minimum feeling of hospitality. read more

The fisherman's galley is the concession stand near the pier. They have a pretty extensive menu and the food is mid, buuuuut what's more fun than concessions at the beach! I'll be back. **NOTE - some of the menu photos that are posted by other Yelpers, are for the other side, not the Galley. If The Fisherman's Restaurant & Bar is at the top of the menu, you are looking at the wrong one. My family and I have dined at their other restaurant multiple times. They're literally right across from each other and we love the food. The Fisherman's Galley is more casual (not that the other side is formal) foodwise and is more like bar food. This is the side that houses that restrooms for both restaurants. It also has the bar. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with a view at either place. It's just a beautiful location anytime you need to grab a bite to eat. A few days ago, we decided to dine at Fisherman's Galley since we were a larger party this time around. Prices are just a little less but if you see the portions, the prices may be a bit too much for what you pay. The staff was friendly, they always are. I'll list what we ordered in a bit. Our food took forever to come out which was frustrating because nobody was talking to us to let us know. Eventually someone did apologize for the wait, and then we waited another 10 minutes after that. I am not sure if long waiting periods for your food is a thing at this location. It was our first time so I can't compare to prior visits. I kept asking for **ice water** but kept getting topped off with room temperature instead. Maybe she didn't know that the water wasn't cold anymore? I don't know. What we ordered: 1) calamari strips $20 - this was a 3/5 for us and a small portion. 2) fish & chips $19 - I THINK there was either 3 or 4 strips. We liked this one. 3) Caesar salad - $16 - this was a large portion which I shared with two other people as an appetizer. This was tossed with parmesan, croutons, tomato, egg & anchovies. Nothing special. 4) kids grilled cheese - came with fries 5) New England clam chowder - $10 - This was very salty. You have to eat it with bread or those oyster crackers for sure, just to get tone it down a bit. We've ordered the chowder from the other side which is also salty. I don't know why we keep ordering it honestly. Each time we've had the clam chowder, it has been over seasoned with salt. I guess we're just a sucker for clam chowder and hope that the next bowl will be better. Would I dine at the Galley again? Probably not. I think our family will stick to the Fisherman's Restaurant & Bar instead. We were always happy with our food at the other side. read more

Located across from the pier in San Clemente and right off the bike/walking trail is the more accessible and budget friendly Fisherman's Galley. The Fisherman's Restaurant and Bar is on the pier and offers a more extensive menu. The Galley has fish and chips, burgers, salads etc. We needed a good quick family spot after a long bike ride, and wanted those ocean views. We opted for the Galley. Good prices and decent portions. We ordered two orders of the fish and chips (3 piece) and a garden salad. Love fish and chips with a view and the Galley's were yummy. Not too much breading or too greasy. Fries were average. Salad was fresh and tasty. To top things off, they offer $3 soft serve ice cream cones in a waffle cone. They are huge. My boys were in heaven. A good spot for a quick tasty meal . Will return! We loved our dinner here. We went in to the bar for a couple of drinks and dinner and sat right inside the giant wall of windows. Can't beat the ocean views. Our food was delicious and our server was so sweet. The only drawback was that we ordered grapefruit based drinks and the grapefruit juice tasted like it was going bad. Fun place and the view can't be beat! The heaters work well when it gets chilly. We stop in here a couple of times a month and the food is good. Servers are friendly. I usually order fish tacos but tried the smoked ahi which was so dry i couldn't eat it. Everything else was good. Definitely try something with the hot bacon dressing! read more

This is an average, good restaurant. The pricing and portions aren't stellar nor horrible, given that this is located in a more tourist designed area. If you are on the cusp of breakfast and lunch and come around 10am or so, you might ask your waiter/waitress if you could put in an order from the lunch menu if you're not vibing the breakfast menu. When you look at the price and selection, you'll end up finding that the lunch menu is a better deal given it's a seafood restaurant and you can get waffles, eggs, omelets, etc. anywhere, but good fresh seafood is what people come here for. It's located near the metro train station, so is convenient in this quaint little town. The service, although friendly, can be inherently neglectful both being proactive as well as to flag-down, mainly because they're busy more so than rude or with attitude. I'd recommend this place for lunch and I'd love to come back for dinner. read more

Picked up 2 swirl soft serve ice cream in a cone yesterday afternoon while visiting the pier. Costs $3 each plus taxes. Affordable! Swirl is = chocolate and vanilla together. read more

We were staying w/in walking distance of this pier restaurant and the first night we went to the "oyster" side and sat directly over the ocean and Thru plexiglass watched the surfers. The wait staff is terrific, clam chowder fabulous along w the sour dough loaf. However...the second occasion we thought we'd try the "restaurant" side. We both ordered a seafood salad which was presently nicely however there was absolutely NO FLAVOR to the seafood. I was hoping since this is a seafood restaurant they would have exceptional seafood. I was mistaken. The outside is fabulous if you're going for a drink and chowder however I will not recommend them for their seafood maybe go for something besides a salad :) read more

We have been coming to this spot off and on for over 20years. We always sit outside for the great view. We have never had an issue. We came here on Mother's Day and when we arrived there was no wait for a table on the deck , very near the ocean. Service was by all accounts excellent and this review is not about the hard working servers who were stretched thin but they still were attentive and friendly. It's about the food- Salmon and chips were very bland, not much taste at all and the salmon was very overcooked. We made the Huge mistake of ordering a bay shrimp cocktail- It was initially served to the wrong table , near us. When the error was discovered, server placed shrimp cocktail with apologies on our table- about 5-8 min after it was at wrong table. I didn't think this was correct, we should get a fresh one, but I also had seen the shrimp on the wrong table and was sure that customer did not touch it, so we went with it. Husband took a bay shrimp and said it tasted off- I tasted and said, I think it's just salty... Well, no, After 60-90 min after eating the bay shrimp cocktail, it was very clear that I had food poisoning. We had left after our lunch, still feeling fine and planned to spend the afternoon on the beach- instead I spent 1 1/2 hours in the horrible beach bathroom having a severe and painful stomach issue with diarrhea. The connection was very clear. My husband who didn't get sick cause he only ate 2-3 bay shrimp, Walked back to the restaurant after 2 hours and wanted to let them know , so that no one would get sick- He asked to speak with manager, and he did. Informed him of situation and stated we thought they should know. Manager was attentive and inquired about what I had eaten...it appeared he took our report seriously. However, no name or official accounting was done or asked for. We had just spent over $100 there and I was really hoping they would refund our money. The day trip was absolutely ruined over this food poisoning. It took me 2 full days to finally feel well again. My husband noticed that all the bay shrimp cocktails appear to be pre made and we're all lined up in a refrigerated case that had no door or plastic covering it, right near the entry/bar area. I would be concerned that this could be problematic in keeping constant cold temperature. It will be a long time before we go back, which is really sad. Also I would have written all this directly to the restaurant if they had an email address. Couldn't find one anywhere on their website. Only a phone number. read more

The worst food experience We've ever had!!! I strongly recommend no one to go there because of their super low food quality, and customer service!! We came to this place on Sunday afternoon for lunch, my wife ordered chicken strips and chips, the look was good but after some bites we found out it was raw , I immediately told the worker that it is completely raw and disgusting and asked for the manager, but the worker said I can do nothing for you and the manager is not here, I got shocked because they refused to take the responsibility and did nothing. The disgusting raw chicken made my wife feeling sick and vomit the whole day!!!! I am wondering if We were the first one or there have been other people because the worker reacted very calmly as if it is a typical style here!! read more

Can't beat the location and views but always seems like the service and food quality are unreliable. Too bad because it's a great place to grab a bite and have a drink. I took my daughter and the grandsons and we were pretty lucky getting a table as it was a beautiful day. First come first served. You have to get used to people hanging around waiting for someone to leave so they can grab your table. We ordered a Wedge Salad, smoked Albacore anime Mozzarella Sticks All good. Ahoy Mates! Welcome to the Fisherman's Galley! My boy friend and I met up with Soo H and his daughter at San Clemente Beach to eat at Sunsets. We searched high and low for the Hawaiian Restaurant and we found out that they closed down at the pier. After doing some research, I discovered that Sunsets has another location near Capistrano Beach (maybe one day we will make it to this location). Since the crew was getting hungry, we ended up eating at the Fisherman's Galley. Location (just a note): -San Clemente Beach -located in front of the pier -near the bathrooms Parking (just a note): -meters, but parking is free after 5 pm -parking lots Service (3 star): The staff is pretty friendly. They let us know that we did not have to rush eating since they were cleaning up and closing the shop. Although, the chef forgot to make our cheese burger so we had to wait an extra 5 minutes. Decor (2.5 star): It just looks like a small little shack with no decor whats so ever. The seating area is outside. There are tables with umbrellas that will block you from the hot sun. It is a very nice view towards the beach though. Food: Ahi Burger (3 star): The burger was okay. I haven't found an Ahi burger that has tasted super amazing yet. FIsh Tacos (3.5 star): These fish tacos were huge! It was the same size as a burrito. The fish was crunchy and decent to eat. Cheese Burger (can't star): The boy friend ate the cheese burger so I cannot star this. Sweet Potato Fries (3 star): Tasted like any other sweet potato fries, but it was nice and crunchy! Alrighty... so it took me a LOOONG time to figure out the actual name and address of this place in order to review it! It is located in front of the pier on the "boardwalk" near the side where restrooms are located. I had misplaced my receipt and checked credit card records online only to find that the two don't even match with regard to name! This place is still owned by the more well known Fisherman's Restaurant but used to be called "The Crab Pot Restaurant and Beach Eatery". Now, you'll find similar-looking awning and the same structure as seen in the photo, but the name "Fisherman's Galley" is there instead. This is your nicer-than-average beach snack shack right by the San Clementer Pier in an area called the the "Pier Bowl". The location is located right in front of the train tracks of the nearby Amtrak station. There is a small area for seating. The menu is fairly limited but there isn't just your standard fare of bad-for-you goodness. I ordered a tuna salad sandwich for $7.34 incl. tax at the first window (near the center). Then I was instructed to wait for my order number at the window on the far left, which a young lady so nicely announced by bringing up an actual microphone to her mouth! I found that amusing, gathered my fare, some napkins and went off to sit on the beach with my peeps. The sandwich was decent with nice grilled wheat bread with actual grill marks on it! Tuna was a bit salty for my taste, but the lettuce/tomato/onion inside were fresh and tasty complements. You can't beat the convenience factor or pricing given the other food options on the pier (unless you like bait, then it's cheapy worms and such for you at the other "snack shack" on the pier!). read more

Cheap beach eats! I was at a beach, so I was expecting to pay for some highly priced junk food like at certain theme parks (cough Disneyland cough Knotts). I ended up getting some chili cheese fries for 3 bucks. It was kinda like looking at an upgraded high school cafeteria menu where everything there tasted exponentially better than that crap we had years ago. I came back later b/c a friend recommended getting the rootbeer float, which BTW hits the spot on a scorching summer day. I was amazed at how well the float kept it's carbonation. Sip after sip was glorious fizz and creaminess till the last drop. They used vanilla soft serve, which i thought was weird b/c it wasn't REAL ice cream, but it worked out great. read more

I wasn't too impressed with the food but if you want to hang out at a restaurant with the best views in town, then I highly recommend Fisherman's Galley! There are a ton of options in the area so I would try those out for their cuisine first but this place is a great spot for people watching, good drinks, and ok seafood. read more

The Fisherman's Galley is at the land base of the pier. It is the best place to get soft serve when you are at the beach. They have chocolate, vanilla or swirl. Service is dandy- you order and pay and then go to the last window and they give you your food. It is regular soft serve but after a few hours in the sun it is perfection. It is your best option instead of being screwed by the Beach Ice Cream Place across the street. At least here they give you a great portion. THere is an actual restaurant called the Fisherman on the pier so it is all very confusing. read more

Don't make the same mistake we did. We were having a great day in the area until we went to this restaurant for a meal. The service was terrible. Other than the sourdough bread, the food was barely edible. Our server often ignored us. You should not have to ask for a straw three times and then go inside to find one. You should not have to ask for barbeque sauce twice and then find another server to help you. We ordered three different entrees, and none of them were good. On top of that, the bill was expensive. This location can't be beat! Food is just okay, drinks are decent, but you go for the view. Fun for a happy hour, especially on weeknights when it's not as crowded. You have to seat yourself and people are always hanging around scouting for the next table, but if you know what to expect then you'll have a good time. read more
