Definitely worth the visit. The beautiful view of the water and open seating create a relaxing atmosphere that's perfect for enjoying a meal. There are large picnic tables by the bay and a breezy covered area if you're not wanting to sit in the sun. Parking is a bit limited, and it can get pretty busy during peak hours, but the wait for our food was very reasonable. I had the lobster roll--it was outstanding. The lobster was incredibly fresh, perfectly cooked, and packed with great flavor. The roll itself was soft, warm, and complemented the lobster perfectly. The fries were just as impressive, with the ideal crispy exterior and a perfectly fluffy potato center cut to just the right thickness. There's an assortment of local canned beers available as well. Overall, despite the limited parking and occasional crowds, the quality of the food and the waterfront setting make this a place I'll happily return to. I had seen a media piece that this place has the best seafood in California. That's quite the claim! Since we were passing through Bodega Bay we thought why not find out. It's right on Highway 1 and shared with another restaurant next door, supposedly owned by this owner's parents. OK, the parking lot is large but even at 1pm on a weekday it was difficult to find a spot. Luckily, we did. Parking karma! People were even parked along Highway 1. This place is very casual. Imagine a seaside fish market with outdoor picnic tables and benches. There's a variety of places to sit, waterside to in a large open tent-like structure. Since it was rather chilly we ate in the sun. Truthfully it wasn't that difficult to find an open table. There are LOTS of them. First, you order your meal. There are two open air kiosks or you can wait to order inside at the counter. We did the latter after perusing the menu board on the wall outside. Several items are 'market price'. We decided to try the fish and chips which comes in one of the daily available fish choices. As we got to the counter we saw that day it was halibut, which was just fine for us. The line wasn't too bad when we got on it, perhaps 15 folks ahead of us. Once we ordered we saw the line snaking out the door for a good distance. They do, however, move it along quickly. Since it was toward the late part of lunch hour many items in the display case you pass while waiting were already depleted. They also sell a lot of merchandise. Ordering was simple and easy. We were asked if we wanted 'beer battered' and we did. They handed us one of those beeper alarm devices and we were on our way to find a table. When the beeper went off I went to the counter and our order was there on a metal tray. One order with two pieces of fish ($22.) and one with three ($26.). There are large dispensers nearby for tarter sauce, ketchup along with napkins and rather flimsy metal utensils. (What makes me suspect people actually abscond with the knives and forks so best they be cheap. At least they're not plastic). Settling in to eat, the taste and tender juiciness of the fish was excellent, undoubtedly some of the freshest fish and chips I have ever had, including throughout England. I was pleased that the fish pieces were large. The batter was crispy and good and the three pieces I had more than substantial a lunch. I found the tarter sauce a bit watery but tasty enough. There's also vinegat and hot sauces on each table. The fries were also excellent. A bit of ketchup, sitting in the sun near the water- what could be better? I was in seafood heaven. Things are pricey but for good. fresh quality seafood it is worth it. Now, I want to try more! As I love and crave seaside seafood this is definitely a stop. A classic stop for fresh seafood in Bodega Bay. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The beer battered fish and chips and the calamari are my favorites. They recently renovated and opened up the back building/patio area. It was my first time seeing the new space and I was impressed with how much additional seating was added. We were there pretty early around 11:30 after a round of golf at the links and managed to snag the last available table outside. There is a self serve sauce bar that has all the options you could want- tartar, ketchup, maui sweet sauce, cocktail sauce, chipotle mayo and more. The tartar sauce is my favorite and I always find myself going back for extra. The cocktail sauce is also amazing, with just the amount of horseradish in it. Whether you're looking for a place to eat or grabbing food to take to the beach, Fishetarian is always a good stop. read more

Fishetarian, definitely a word I'm all about! I'm a seafood girlie through and through and so is my family. After horseback riding, my Mom was in the mood for lunch and chose to come here. We arrived on a weekday and it was somewhat quiet. I could see this place getting busy with weekend crowds. When you arrive, they have a couple tablets you can self order or you can go inside and order with the workers. Their market has food on display, little trinkets, drinks, and much more. It's also where you pick up your food. They have a lot of seating outside. Plenty of tables near the restaurant, tables inside an open air building, and tables bayside. It's common to share communally. Most items are self serve such as utensils, takeout bags, etc. there's also a couple bathrooms. Service is efficient and nice. My family and I got Chowda Fries, Bowl of Chowda, Grilled Rockfish Sandwich, and Lobster Roll. I enjoyed my sandwich which I got with sweet potato fries. The rockfish was mild and slightly sweet with plenty of tartar on it. I enjoyed the bites of my mom's delicious lobster roll and the creamy rich spoonful of chowder. I'd recommend these items and would get them again! Fishetarian Fish Market is a must try if you're visiting Bodega Bay. It's charming, relaxing, and the food is good. Fiancé and I have come here a bunch of times and it is one of my favorite food spots. It's a perfect post hike meal too. We have had their seared ahi tuna sandwich, grilled rockfish sandwich, fish tacos, lobster roll, raw and grilled oysters, clam chowder and fish and chips. The only thing we felt was a pass was probably their clam chowder. Our faves are the sandwiches and oysters. The sweet potato fries are also really good. The garlic butter is our favorite of the oysters. The lobster roll was a tad over buttered on the roll but was overflowing with lobster. Overall flavors are always good. We park on the side of the road and we always find a spot quickly. There is never parking in the lot. They recently expanded their deck so there is way more seating. I like that they have seating in the warehouse because it is usually less cold and windy there. It's always crowded here but they get the food out pretty quickly. Great experience! We loved everything about this place: the food, the beautiful views, and the relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. It's the perfect escape from city life, where you can enjoy fresh oysters while taking in the ocean breeze. And we had our pup! The ordering process is simple and convenient: place order on a tablet, choose any open table, and pick up your food when it's ready. We visited on a Friday around lunchtime, and it wasn't too crowded, making for a very enjoyable experience. We took a day trip up to meet with family and my wife's been wanting to try this place for years. First off, we had the pups with us so it was important to use that this place along with the neighboring restaurants were dog friendly! They even came out to see if we needed bowls of water for the boys. Cool evening with a little sun. Perfect setting! Lots of tables available just have to wait till people finished and cycled through. We weren't too hungry but wanted to try a few things. We had a 12 count of raw shucked and a 6 count of grilled oysters. Clam chowder, lobster roll, fish & chips combo and some caviar for my niece to try. Everything was great, oysters were fresh and buttery tasting. Calamari was cooked through and the breading stayed crisp! After many years of passing by the busy lot for Fishetarian, I finally stopped in for an early dinner, last Saturday. It wasn't too long of a line since it was around 4 and between the lunch and dinner crowds. It's all order at the kiosk or counter, where you get a buzzer and pick up. Considering the name, I was happily surprised to see some vegetarian options, including tofu tacos and a veggie sandwich. I opted for the tacos which were a good size portion and a nice mix of flavors. There's plenty of outdoor seating, with and without heaters, both covered and open. It offers a no fuss, simple bay view dining experience. Very casual (and chilly-dress warm!) with a friendly vibe. The staff were very upbeat and helpful. I really wanted to love this place but I was pretty disappointed. We came on a Friday and it was pretty empty so I think that contributed to the food not being as good as it could be. The bread on the fish sandwich was so soggy that it was inedible. The clam chowder was a bit on the thinner side and not too creamy but not the best I've had. I thought the fish on the sandwich (grilled) and on the taco (fried) was under seasoned. There's lots of seating so this place is clearly meant for large volume crowds and I think the food is probably better and fresher if you go when it's busy. They do make a big deal of having a bummer free guarantee which in hindsight I regret not taking advantage of however I also didn't want to waste food. My wife had the lobster sandwich and I had the in-house lam chowder which was amazing and also the chowder fries. I was surprised they actually poured chowder over the fries and they were delicious. The location is absolutely stunning on the Boina Bay with views of all the boats in the water and the animals out in front. We got to watch the seal swim by and all the aquatic birds. Fishetarian has won the Bohemian's Best of the North Bay (Best Chowder, Best Oysters, Best Outdoor Dining, Best Seafood Restaurant), and They also recently earned the Slow Food movement's "Snail of Approval" award for their commitment to sustainable, locally sourced ingredients. They also added an additional covered seating area right on the water which was definitely needed with their current crowds. Their picnic tables outside curate a perfect vibe. It is so dog friendly, and all the pups were so well behaved. Their merch and store is so cute with the most aesthetic branding. They also have cute cards, postcards they will mail for you, books, tinned fish, sweets, and other delicacies. They have a wall full of drinks, both alcoholic and not. They also have a variety of sauces to go with their fresh seafood. I had the fried fish tacos which is what I normally get. Juicy fish with a crispy beer batter atop a corn tortilla with slaw and tartar sauce. Great bite. You get to try the fish of the fish n chips without it being too heavy. My mom and I split a side of fries, and I am glad we did because they were delicious. Great flavor and cooked well. A little bigger of a cut than I normally like, but I actually thoroughly enjoyed them. We got some clam chowder to take home and have for dinner. It was delicious. Not too thick. It wasn't gelatinous at all, which is my main complaint with some clam chowders. The pieces of clam were larger than the average, and you could actually tell it was clam, not some mystery mush. My wife "won" a gift certificate to Fishetarian at the Farm Bureau Crab Feed and we were excited to be able to use it yesterday. There's also plenty of seating available, both indoors and outdoors. We ordered half a dozen raw oysters and the combo fish and chips with fish and prawns. We opted for the panko breading. The oysters were fresh and delicious, the fish was flaky, and the prawns were substantial. The fries were solid as well. I also really appreciated their selection of sauces. Next time, I'd like to try the fish and chips with the beer batter. I have a feeling I might prefer that style even more. Fishetarian has the potential to be a great spot for fresh, local seafood. The location is absolutely beautiful and, honestly, it's the best part of the entire experience. Ordering, however, was disappointing. There isn't any table service--you simply order your food and pick it up yourself. Since there's no actual service, I chose not to leave a tip. Ironically, it seemed like that resulted in a much longer wait for our food, which was frustrating and honestly a bit amusing. We ordered enough food to feed a family, even though there were only two of us, so we had the chance to try several menu items. Unfortunately, the meal was underwhelming: 1. The fish and chips were bland and desperately needed more seasoning and sauce. I wish I had read the reviews before ordering them, not even the sauce helped. 2. All the hot sauces on the table weren't hot at all. 3. The clam chowder was, without a doubt, the worst I've had. Even the bread served with it was disappointing. 4. While the lobster roll tasted great, the price didn't match the portion size. Overall, I'm honestly at a loss for words. Given my experience, I don't understand how this place has earned so many 5-star reviews. When in Bodega Bay, do as they Bodegans do. Oysters by the bay, anyone? When you're ever along the northern coast, seafood is what you get when you're here. After a hike at the Estero Americano Preserve, my hubs and I were famished so we saw what was around the area. And this spot popped up. It was maybe a 5min drive from the trailhead, parking was easy. It's counter service so you just fall in line, order at the register and they hand you a beeper to let you know when your food is ready. We ordered the +octopus salad (delicious dressing) with a cup of +clam chowder ($5 more and you can add crab). But the piece de resistance *chef's kiss* had to be the +grilled oysters with garlic butter. For $25, you get a half dozen of these large fresh oysters plucked out in the bay smothered in garlic butter. We opted for warm sliced +sourdough bread to soak up the remaining juices. Order inside main market or at outdoor kiosk (hut when approaching building), multiple seating options available- down on the beach, out front, and the newest dock area/ warehouse with indoor/outdoor vibes. Bathrooms (2 stalls) available but possibility of long line. Staff helpful, friendly, and attentive with clearing dirty tables. Food was prepared and ready decently quick for how busy they are, so definitely check them out and wait in the line, it's not much longer after that you'll forget you waited while eating some of the best seafood out in Bodega. read more

food was decent and service was okay. having a fish market by the ocean is very fun and there's lots of outdoor seating. good for large groups. easy to order system with ordering tablets or waiting in line to order. my order got forgotten. had to ask about an update and they seemed to lose track of it but luckily they started making it right away. after receiving the food, we realized they got an item wrong, giving us fish when we ordered prawns for the fried combo. it still tasted yummy so it was okay. honestly all the food was missing a little flavor so i really enjoyed all the sauce they had available. the lobster roll was really rich and the bottom was super crunchy but there was a bit too much bread. the baja fish tacos were good but you definitely need the sauce for it to be yummy. we got sauce on the side to make the food not too soggy but you need it for the flavor. the old bay, tarter sauce, and the maui wowie sauces were required to bring the food from a 4 to a 8. fish itself was so fresh; the batter was just not that great. this place is more of a 3.5 in my opinion but after the lack of flavor from all the food and no crispiness from the fried food along with the order being forgotten, i had to round down. the sauces however. 10/10. keep it up with that sauce bar. i also love all the merchandise available for purchase. got some tinned fish and packaged chips so im excited to try those together. this place definitely has potential but i feel like my experience was just an unfortunate poor one read more

Came here on a double date and we snagged a table right in front of the water. The kiosk was easy to use to put in our orders and the staff was so friendly they brought our dog Caddy a water bowl to enjoy. They call your name on the intercom and I am happy she said Jennay as I spelled it so I knew it was our order. We ordered the lobster roll, crab sandwich both warm, bbq oyster, dozen raw oysters, fried platter of fish, calamari, shrimp, and clam chowder. You know just a large tasting menu for us 4. On our way up to Fort Bragg, the Fishetarian was one of our stops to grab lunch. We ordered the fish and chips with beer batter and panko, and the grilled oyster. Everything was suuuuper fresh and so delicious! The breading on the fish added a nice crunch and the rockfish was suuuper flakey and delicate. We ordered the garlic and butter and Maui wowie sweet chili grilled oysters and those were really tasty as well. We able to sit outside in the far back area with benches. Took a scenic route on our way from San Fransisco up to Santa Rosa, which took us through Bodega Bay. We stopped at the Fishetarian on a Thursday afternoon for a quick lunch. The restaurant is also the gift shop, with lots of souvenir-type items. My wife and I shared some fish and chips and a bowl of clam chowder. Both were made fresh and served hot. We enjoyed our meal very much. It's wasn't "the best ever", but it was good. The clam chowder was not as thick as I would have liked. It was a little bit on the watery side, but still was hot and tasted just fine. Something that was pretty unique were the drinks. All of the drinks (soda) were the same price and you could select from many different flavors. They did not have your normal Pepsi or Coke but instead some unique soda flavors. Stopped by Fishetarian Fish Market in Bodega Bay while out on the coast. Great location right by the water and definitely a busy spot !! We ordered online about an hour ahead, but still had to wait another 20 to 30 minutes once we got there. Staff looked a bit flustered, but it was clearly very busy so it was understandable. Fries were standard and did the job. Grilled Oysters (Garlic Butter) These were the highlight for me. Buttery, garlicky, and flavorful. Simple and done well. Had a quick trip to bodega bay and stopped here for lunch. Ordered a fish and chips and grilled oysters. The fish and chips were different than traditional, it had a panko outer crust so it had a little more crunch than usual. Fries were solid. The grilled ousters we ordered with butter and garlic, no complaints. They had outside seating and you order inside where they also have different souvenirs you could buy.
