This was 1 of the 5 spots I tried spanning over 2 weekends in bodega bay. This was not my favorite clam chowder. The chowder was hearty, but it tastes like chicken noodle soup. I couldn't really taste the clams. I would not get this again. The fish and chips were solid, I would get it again. You get 4 pieces of fried fish on a bed of fries. The tartar sauce could be better, the coating on the fried fish was crispy and did not have too much oil. The fries were just okay. Small parking lot in front, I can see it overfilling during weekends or holidays. There are tables and chairs inside with a cool view of the road, more seats outside and also in their outdoor dining room. You order inside, find a seat and they'll bring your food out to you. This is a great spot! Maybe a locals favorite? I've been coming here for decades, and it has hardly changed. I love that What is important is that the food has, of anything, only improved. One if my favorite spots in the Sonoma coast. We love the fish and chops, but the prawns, clams, and other items like the fish sandwich are excellent as well. And the blackened fish with the red onion in the sandwich was a great combination and balanced the sandwich nicely. Service was quick and friendly. And the rustic seating gave it that authentic touch. We were fortunate to have had nice weather that made the outdoor dining perfect. My family has lived in Sonoma county since the 1930's and this was my first time. Other family members recommended it, but the limited parking required finding the right times to dine. Lol! About 15 years ago, my parents would hop on the Harley and ride around here, they would always stop at The Boat House. It's a tradition of mine to come to the area once a year, go on a hike, walk the beach, (even if cold) and stop by here for lunch before I head home. My favorite thing is the calamari and fries. Partner and I stopped to grab a quick lunch around 12 pm on a Saturday. It was empty when we arrived but picked up by the time we left. We ordered fish and chips and calamari. The guy at the counter taking our order was super sweet and delivered our food to our table outside. Food came hot and fresh, very yummy. Fries were a good texture but I personally would have liked more seasoning. Fish was alright, though I preferred the calamari. Note: Calamari comes with fries also! I'm picky with celery since I always taste it but not with the chowder from here. They did add a little less salt on the clam chowder I got today but it was good nonetheless. This is the best! But there are things wrong with it. Like it is an hour+ away from us, and the Fish and Chips are so good, that it is all we have tried on the menu. I've heard good things about other choices, but when you are getting the best fish and chips that you have ever had in your life, it's hard not to order more. It is said that they have a boat and harvest their own fish, and I believe it because there is no other way it can be so good. The batter is a cross between standard batter and tempura, just perfect. For 'old school' it is very refreshing that there is nothing grumpy about it. The staff is great and the owners are jewels. Plenty of choices of where to eat inside or out, take your time and pick what you like. As you are driving to Bodega Head, look for the nets and buoys and pull in. Nice place, but for some reason Bodega Bay was swamped with people on a Monday (12/29/2025) and they were out of clam chowder 3 hours before closing! I get that demand was high, but who runs out that early? The parking lot is tiny and the small outdoor dog-friendly section was also--it seems like most of the restaurants in Bodega Bay are the size of postage stamps attached to the curves of Highway 1--so we parked at the store across the street and ordered to go. No chowder, but we got fish and chips, calamari and chips, and some poppers. Back at our Vrbo, everything was good and large portions. The fish breading was just right and the fish was cooked perfectly. They are open later than the other restaurants in the area, which is a plus, but 4 stars for running out of their signature chowder. read more

This was a nice place with a variety of food to eat for lunch while also avoiding the winds the weekend my husband and I visited ! I wanted some seafood, being in Bodega Bay, and my husband wanted something more burger/sandwich-y - and the Boathouse has both. I had a clam chowder bowl and my husband ordered a chicken sandwich, and we shared an order of fish and chips. Honestly, everything just tasted O.K., nothing was terrible but it also wasn't very flavorful, either. The food came out really fast so that was nice on the service end, and the restaurant itself for sure has boathouse vibes which was cool for visiting Bodega Bay. Parking is tricky though, since it is really small. We ordered the crab cake sandwich and there was really no crab or cake.. it was just a small sliver of something flat that did taste like crab.. but there was so much bread (and the tomato felt thicker than the crab cake) so if we return it wouldn't be for the sandwich. This is where my boyfriend & his family have been going to when they'd spend their summers in Bodega Bay when he was young. I've been really looking forward to trying out this place. The raving reviews on Yelp as well as my boyfriend's have gotten me ecstatic. We came in during peak late lunch hours. For anyone coming for their first time, there's plenty of seating, but most of the seats were filled when we came. Luckily enough right as we walked in to order, a table for 2 was free. The woman taking the orders was so sweet. My boyfriend and I got clam chowder in a cup, fried calamari, & fish & chips (not pictured). We had gotten the clam chowder so quickly but the rest of our order to a while to get to us. Clam Chowder in a cup: Loved how much celery & carrots were added. It wasn't too heavy. Could use some more flavor. We really enjoyed it overall. Not the best clam chowder I had. 7/10 Fried Calamari: The serving was HUUUGE. Crispy and delicious! Came here on a sunny Saturday afternoon for lunch and left very satisfied! They have a little parking lot which can fill up quickly but patrons don't linger too long so the turnover is quick. Same goes for the tables. Service was very efficient and polite. Order and pay first when you arrive then seat yourself at one of the tables inside or in their outdoor patio which is covered but plenty sunny. They even have heaters mounted for chilly days. Tables are clean and they are quick to clean up the tables after they're vacated. Food was great! I was so pleasantly surprised by how good the bread bowl was. The bread was warm, toasted on the outside and soft in the middle. Just perfect. A little too much potato in it for my hubby's taste, but I didn't mind so much. Fish and chips were good. Fish was fresh. Batter was crisp on the outside but I didn't care for the bit of slimy batter that was adjacent to the fish. Tartar sauce was creamy with just a bit of tang. We had the clam strips too, which I thought were fine. Felt like I was mostly eating batter so it was my mistake to order it. It was nicely crispy. The fries (in both baskets) could've been more well done and crispy. They were quite soggy even though they were clearly fresh. Overall, really nice lunch. Excellent food and very friendly service. I think the fish and chips were some of the best I have had. We (adults + kids) preferred them over the ones at the bird cafe. The kids made me go back a second time to get another order. Service at both times was wonderful, the people behind the counter were very warm and welcoming. The boat house was the perfect stop for a light lunch after a hike by the beach or coastal foraging! We stopped by on our way from fort ross coast since we saw a lot of people coming here when we drove by initially. There isn't too long of a wait but seating can be hard to find especially on weekends with nicer weather since the location is very small but that's just even more of a reason to order to go and have a nice meal while enjoying the beach views. Very cute small little place. Saw it when driving by and decided to stop by. The service was good and fast and they bring the meals to your table. I saw all over town about BBQ Oysters and decided to try it. They were good and it was my first time eating an Oyster hot. The BBQ part of this meal is just some BBQ sauce on top. I really liked it but i had to add the lemon to get a better taste. I definitely would come by and try this place out! My boyfriend got the corn dogs as well and he loved them.
