Seemed to only have 1 person taking orders and also distributing orders so things were slow. Nothing special about their famous chowder. The crab sandwich is basically a hotdog bun with salty crab meat. The line is long and the wait times are slow because of the workers. Prices are high, $22 per sandwich and $10 for a cup of chowder. On a beautiful day, we saw a rainbow cloud as we made our way to Spuds. It was amazing so we knew the food was going to be good. The line appeared long and there's limited parking. We parked across the way in this big lot and my husband walked over. He said the line went by quickly even though it appeared long. We ordered a crab sandwich, clam chowder, crab meat and bay shrimps. We shared everything and it was a perfect lighter lunch. They sure stuff the crab in the sandwich, it was still quite small though but stuffed with crab meat. Delicious! Then the crab meat and bay shrimps were so good too. Good addition. The Spud is always our go-to spot for clam chowder. We've tried clam chowder at many other places, but this is still our favorite. We usually order the clam chowder and the crab sandwich--both are consistently delicious and never disappoint. The service is fast, and they have multiple menus posted while you're waiting in line, so it's easy to decide what to order before you reach the counter. That really helps keep the line moving. First time at Spud Point and I finally understand the hype. We stopped by 4th of July before a hike in bodega and the line and wait for food was surprisingly reasonable. We ordered both clam chowders, the seafood cocktail and crab sandwiches. The seafood was unbelievably fresh, the chowder was steaming hot (perfect for the cooler bodega weather) and despite the amount of food we ordered, I didn't feel overly heavy after our meal. Service was quick and efficient, you order and they hand you your food at the register. Overall, 10/10. You place your order, pay, and receive your food at the window all at the same time. We always make it a point to stop by Spud Point whenever we're in Bodega Bay. There's usually a line, but their clam chowder is so good that it's always worth the wait. The clam chowder is a perfect thickness, comes out piping hot and has a lot of clams. We got the loaf of bread to go with the bread which is massive for $5 however the bread is very mediocre. It said it was extra sour sourdough but didn't taste sour at all and I was expecting a much crustier crust. There was a good amount of crab in the sandwich for the price ($20) however no big chunks of crab and it tasted a big fishy so that was off putting. Also the sandwich was smaller than expected. The bread was nothing special and wasn't toasted so it didn't add anything to the sandwich. The line is not worth the wait and in fact I'd go next door for a better crab sandwich and a shorter wait. Guests were in town for the holidays so we took a drive out to get our favorite clam chowder. Boy was it cold and windy but it was worth it. Their New England clam chowder is our absolute favorite. It is creamy with potatoes, large chunks of clams and other secret ingredients which hits the spot. Superb as usual and everyone enjoyed their soup immensely.
