We always make it a point to stop by Spud Point whenever we're in Bodega Bay. There's usually a line, but their clam chowder is so good that it's always worth the wait. This time, we also ordered the crab sandwich. It was tasty, but a bit small for the $20 price tag. I understand that crab is expensive, but it's definitely not large enough to share. Even so, the quality and flavor were excellent. Overall, we enjoyed everything we tried, and Spud Point remains one of our must-visit spots in Bodega Bay. You place your order, pay, and receive your food at the window all at the same time. There are tables you can sit at outside, but they can get packed easily due to how busy this place is. Me and my partner shared the white clam chowder and the crab sandwich. While the clam chowder wasn't the best I've ever had, I still thought it was yummy and that it had a good amount of clams. The crab sandwich was a bit on the smaller side, and I wish it came with some sort of sauce or melted butter. Despite being plain, the crab itself tasted good and fresh. If you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, keep in mind that this place doesn't really have any non-seafood options like some of the other restaurants in the area (except for their chili and bread loaf). One of the people I went with was vegetarian, and they got food from the restaurant next door instead. My husband and I ate here for the very first time while we were in Bodega Bay. We shared a bowl of their New England Style White Clam Chowder and Crab Sandwich. The chowder was creamy, seasoned well, and had a good amount of clam and potatoes that weren't overcooked. The crab sandwich was meaty, had real crab meat, and wasn't overpowered with too much sauce which we enjoyed. The bread was warm and toasted too. However, I did encounter two small pieces of crab tendons when eating the sandwich, but it didn't ruin the overall sandwich experience for me. After a long drive checking out all the beaches and seeing the redwood trees, we wanted to find a good place to get some lunch. We landed on this place. Parking is off street so can be hard but we were able to score a spot. There was a line but it moved fast. We ordered a bowl of clam chowder, loaf of sourdough bread and crab sandwich. You wait in the line and order at the window. Then they bring the food out to you. There are some picnic tables and sunshades out front. Very easy and no pretense here! Here's what we ordered: Italian sourdough French bread $5 Red chowder $10 White chowder $10 2 crab sandwiches $20 each Albacore tuna sandwich $11 When ordering the bread, make sure you get some butter. The bread was absolutely delicious with crusty exterior and chewy inside. Perfect accompaniment with the chowder! We loved though New England white chowder. The Manhattan red chowder was fine, but we barely had half of it and took the rest home. The crab sandwich was great too! Tuna sandwich was good! Guests were in town for the holidays so we took a drive out to get our favorite clam chowder. Boy was it cold and windy but it was worth it. Their New England clam chowder is our absolute favorite. It is creamy with potatoes, large chunks of clams and other secret ingredients which hits the spot. Superb as usual and everyone enjoyed their soup immensely. You order at the window and if you prefer to dine on the premises, they have several picnic tables with umbrellas outside. I have no idea why it took me so long to review this establishment & i've frequented this restaurant so many times. I travel from sf/oakland to come here just for the clam chowder. This is by far THE BEST clam chowder I've ever had. I've tried all the clam chowders in the Bodega Bay area & down here in sf. But nothing will beat Spud Point Crab Company. Every single bite i have a clam im chewing on. Its the perfect consistency its not to thick not to thin, its got that flavor. I also ordered the seafood sandwich today, and you know what? i'll now be ordering it again vs just the crab sandwich. The shrimp gave it a good texture with the crab. Yes, its quite small but it is packed with meat & Its fresh and delicious. They have a quite few outside tables, couple parking spaces next to the restaurant but if its busy there is a marina maybe 2 min walk from the restaurant. The line moves very quickly the workers are nice & I just really enjoy it here. I personally don't opt to eat here, I find a beach nearby to enjoy the food. So, it's not about the quality, but the Quantity. We drove out to the coast for a change of scenery & some delicious seafood to enjoy up on the bluffs. My go-to has always been Spud Point. My companion wanted to go next door & get her meal. She got an order of fish n chips. Three large pieces of fish with an appropriate amount of fries. A nice meal with enough to take home for later. For the same cost, (~$20) I got a Dungeness sandwich. An appetizer size "sandwich". Was it good? Yes. Was it enough for even one meal? Not even close. For $20!! Look at the review photos & you'll see just how small it's gotten over the years. (I wish I had before ordering). The addition of a pickle spear or small bag of chips or even a side of cole slaw may have made it so but there was none of that. Disappointing! 100%! I was enticed by the Shrimp Cocktail on the menu. For another $12 or $13 I got, what, maybe 4oz of SMALL shrimp that appeared to be undercooked. I wasn't about to chance my gastric health on eating them. $12 in the trash. :( C'mon, SPUD POINT! Finally braved the more than 30 minutes line and made it to the famous Spud Point Crab Company in Bodega Bay. The food was good but definitely overhyped. It's a popular little roadside place dishing out a constant stream of fresh seafood located on the road to the Bodega Head. There's no parking, restrooms, condiments or even complimentary water, there's just a few outdoor benches to sit and enjoy your food while watching batches of fresh seafood getting boiled. Parking however wasn't an issue; we found a number of spots near the marina on the opposite side of the road. We ordered the New England style white clam chowder ($10), the famous crab sandwich ($20) and a tuna sandwich ($11). The clam chowder was the best among our three dishes and though it had more potatoes than I would have preferred, it was rich, full of clams, hearty, and comforting. The sandwiches were fresh and good, but nothing to rave about. I was frankly disappointed with my crab sandwich, especially after having read all the 5-star reviews. While the crab meat itself was fresh, it contained too many pieces of crab shell and was doused in too much of mayo or whatever condiment they had used, feeling overly salty and not too appetizing to me. Also, I believe good bread is the foundation to any good sandwich and I didn't particularly care for the bread they used; plus the bread was soggy from the excessive use of some sort of sauce.
