Classic clam chowder that you absolutely cannot go wrong with. Big plus- you can grab your bowl of chowder and enjoy it while walking along the marina or even the beach down the road! The food comes out almost immediately after you pay as well, so you won't be waiting long for anything. Unless you maybe order a whole crab and they have to cook it to order, but at least you can see your food being cooked in front of you! They also have a super cute outdoor seating area and an old buggy being driven by a giant crab. A little dangerous, but I'm sure they would only choose the most responsible crustacean to operate an old time vehicle. We took a drive out to the coast yesterday from Healdsburg to cool off in the summer heat. It was a nice windy drive through Graton and Freestone. We eventually arrived there around 12:45 PM. Spud Point is a cute little shack right across from the harbor, but the parking is terrible so keep that in mind. We waited in line for about 5 minutes and ordered two clam chowder soups which were $9.99 each, one crab sandwich which was $21.98 and one seafood sandwich which was $19.99. Menu is pretty limited and no fish and chips. They immediately provided the food so I assume they were pre-prepared in the back and you could see the pots of soup boiling outside. We brought our dog as there are only outdoor picnic tables to sit at, but there seemed to always be a spot open. There were also benches across the street overlooking the bay where you could hear the harbor seals barking, to view the fishing boats. The clam chowder was very good, one of the best I've ever, had not too thick with a lot of cut up smaller clams and a bacon flavor. There's only one size which could be split with two people, and we still have leftovers. The sandwiches on the other hand are incredibly small and served on almost a hot dog looking bun. You definitely need one for each person as it would be too small to split. I am used to the crab sandwiches at Nick's Rockaway in Pacifica, which are absolutely delicious and feed two people for about $42. The crab sandwich (1/8 lb) here was very fresh and the seafood sandwich (1/4 lb half bay shrimp and 1/4 lb half crab) was also very good. I believe the owner has his own fishing boat and he catches the seafood and fish daily as there was also halibut for sale in market shelf. Weather was cold and foggy as is normal in Bodega Bay. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone if you were in the area, but I would try either Fisherman's Cove or Ginocchio's next time for the crab sandwich if you wanted something more hearty. read more

Always a must visit when coming up to bodega bay tbh. This time I ordered the half red half new england chowder, chili, & of course the seafood sandwich. I can't express this enough its always a hit for me. The seafood sandwich is fresh and packed with meat. Its creamy and light and if you know sometimes i dip it into the clam chowder and it just elevates everything. The half red & half white chowder was recommended to me by a local my last visit so this time i had to order it and wow they were right it was definitely delicious!! I also ordered the chili and wow that was so good to! It was super rich and meaty and exactly how you expect a chili to taste like. Finally got to try one of the most popular places around this town - Spud!! We were around the area for camping so we decided to get breakfast here on a Saturday morning right when it opens. That way we can skip the line and get a taste of this first thing in the morning! We thought this was gonna be a heavy breakfast, but I think portion came out just right. Between my partner and I, we shared a Crab Sandwich, Manhattan Clam Chowder and a Bay Shrimp Cocktail. Pretty much no wait for our order since there was no line. They have a seating area outdoor, but it kinda looks like they just manage the kitchen and everything else is self service. The Crab Sandwich was delicious!! There was a generous amount of crab stuffed in a roll that came out warm. It wasn't too saucy and the sauce didn't overwhelm the taste of the crab meat. The roll was neither too dense or fluffy - has a bit of a crunch and bite to it. I think my favorite this morning was the Manhattan Clam Chowder though. Probably because it was a grey and chilly morning, so this bowl was really comforting. I like the mild tartness of the tomato base. There's also lots of chewy bits in the chowder from the seafood they add on there. It tasted really good! Last but not least, the shrimp cocktail. Taste was great, but I just wasn't feeling this for this morning. My partner liked it though! Fresh tasting little bites and the cocktail sauce was great in adding some extra tangy flavor. We picked a beautiful day to go out to Bodega Bay. I had heard so much about their clam chowder that I had to take a trip out there with My husband. Let me tell you it was worth the ride!!! When we got there there was only a few people in line, but by the time we left there was a pretty good size line. It moved very quickly. We ordered two clam chowders, two crab sandwiches and then drinks. Our food came out quick. Let me tell you the hype on the clam chowder is definitely worth it. I kind of wished I brought some home but I finished it all there. Next time I'll make sure I bring some home! Crab sandwich is good. The ambiance was even better because it was a perfect day out there. It's definitely a must try. I don't think you'll find anything close to a good tasting clam chowder as this one. On a beautiful day, we saw a rainbow cloud as we made our way to Spuds. It was amazing so we knew the food was going to be good. The line appeared long and there's limited parking. We parked across the way in this big lot and my husband walked over. He said the line went by quickly even though it appeared long. We ordered a crab sandwich, clam chowder, crab meat and bay shrimps. We shared everything and it was a perfect lighter lunch. They sure stuff the crab in the sandwich, it was still quite small though but stuffed with crab meat. Delicious! Then the crab meat and bay shrimps were so good too. Good addition. Then the clam chowder, it didn't look like much in anybody's pictures, but it was definitely delicious! The Spud is always our go-to spot for clam chowder. We've tried clam chowder at many other places, but this is still our favorite. We usually order the clam chowder and the crab sandwich--both are consistently delicious and never disappoint. The service is fast, and they have multiple menus posted while you're waiting in line, so it's easy to decide what to order before you reach the counter. That really helps keep the line moving. There isn't any indoor seating, and the outdoor seating is very limited. We usually get our food to go, drive to a nearby beach, and enjoy a picnic with an amazing view. Showed up to get in line before 9am. The workers were extremely slow at opening their doors, taking orders, and handing over food. It took them almost 15 minutes to serve the first customer in line and the food looks pre-made (chowder and sandwich meat). I ordered the crab sandwiches and white clam chowder. Nothing special about their famous chowder. The crab sandwich is basically a hotdog bun with salty crab meat. The line is long and the wait times are slow because of the workers. First time at Spud Point and I finally understand the hype. We stopped by 4th of July before a hike in bodega and the line and wait for food was surprisingly reasonable. We ordered both clam chowders, the seafood cocktail and crab sandwiches. The seafood was unbelievably fresh, the chowder was steaming hot (perfect for the cooler bodega weather) and despite the amount of food we ordered, I didn't feel overly heavy after our meal. Service was quick and efficient, you order and they hand you your food at the register. Overall, 10/10. On a sunny and very windy day after visiting Bodega Head, my friends and I were looking for a place to eat on the way heading towards home. If you want oyster crackers, be sure to ask for them. I didn't, and I had to eat it without them... and I love me some oyster crackers in my chowder. The crab sandwich was a bit on the smaller side, and I wish it came with some sort of sauce or melted butter. Despite being plain, the crab itself tasted good and fresh. If you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, keep in mind that this place doesn't really have any non-seafood options like some of the other restaurants in the area (except for their chili and bread loaf). One of the people I went with was vegetarian, and they got food from the restaurant next door instead. They have seats outside but they were all taken so we decided to sit in back of our car to enjoy the view of the water and eat our lunch. The clam chowder was ok just too much garlic for us.
