    Cold cut board

We hadn't been to the oyster bar attached to the farm location of Hog Island Oyster for several years, and it looks like they're expanded the space. After going on a tour of the farm, we decided to get some more oysters at the bar. The chipotle butter oysters were piping hot and perfectly seasoned with a sweet earthy flavor. We also ordered a cold cut board and a cheese board for two people. The boards were a good size and we had some leftovers to take home. While the bar had more limited offerings compared to the SF ferry building location, the outdoor seating and views of Tomales Bay and farm are unbeatable.

Decided to come here on a Saturday without reservations and even though we had to wait an hour, it was well worth the wait. Please make a reservation unless you don't mind waiting an hour, ALSO you will get turned away if there is no seating (several people after us got turned away). During our wait, we walked the grounds, explored their general store and sat and talked which was great because there is no service in the area, it gives a chance for people to connect. The hostess was very nice even though it was busy. He was very attentive and even took our order so we can get food even time for the kitchen closing instead of having us wait for a waiter. We ordered the cheeseboard, bourbon butter oysters, and the miso oysters. All were great, although I may skip the miso oysters next time to try some raw ones with their mignonette. Wine was also great. They had a really good selection. This would be a beautiful place to come during the summer since it's right off the water and just the drive there was so scenic. It can get busy there so we parked on the side of the road but from what I can see there is plenty of parking. Lastly, they sell oysters at the general store sooo if you don't want to wait if you didn't make reservations. There's a table right in front of the store and you can shuck away!

I wanted to get good quality oysters right from the source since I've had the oysters in SF. They do have a dine in option where you can eat the oysters but there is a wait. I got 2 dozen oysters and shucked them myself. Got the Kumamoto and the sweet water. Flavor profile for both the sweetwater and kumamoto are fresh and salty. Meat was very soft and firm. Definitely a fun activity to do or to enjoy at a picnic near a beach. Warning: Parking is pretty difficult to find. I'll definitely be back here again to grab some oysters if I'm in the area

Make a reservation. Even if it's a random weekday... make the reservation! We drove 2 hours out eat here. Parking lot is VERY small, so we ended up parking down the road and walking. We were very fortunate to be able to get seating after a 20 minute wait, so.... for future reference, make the reservation! I have to say, those grilled oysters changed my life. Bless Hog Island for sharing their BBQ Chipotle Bourbon butter recipe online. I'm waiting to tell my friends this is what I want for my birthday. Everything was fresh, no complaints! It was worth the 2 hour drive and some car sickness.

Wow, definitely worth the drive. The oysters were fresh and great with their vinegar-ish sauce. Their bread has great sesame taste, nice with butter. The smoked cod dip was good but was kind of salty. Their hot sauce is kind of sweet, we prefer the tapatio. Service is welcoming and kind! This spot faces the water which is nice, can get chilly and cold though so warm up!

Oyster was good both fresh and grilled. Service is pretty good. It was about 40mins wait but it wasn't too bad. The ambiance, service, and oyster are the reason ill be back.

Oysters here are incredibly fresh and flavorful -- some of the best I've ever had. They offer a great deal on oysters to-go, which I'd definitely recommend. Both the raw and BBQ are worth trying; the hogwash pairs perfectly with the oysters' natural salinity. The shareable plates were also excellent, making for a light but satisfying meal. Staff were super friendly. We visited on a reservation-required day -- highly recommended for those traveling from afar, though walk-ins can work if you arrive early. We got there at 11:00 AM on a Sunday and snagged a table just before the place filled up. The location is beautiful, right next to Tomales Bay, and I'll definitely grab oysters to take home next time.

    Grilled oysters were so good!

We haven't been here since before Covid. I'm glad they're still here but sad that they removed the BBQ grills. We had two orders of the grilled oysters - they were sooooo good! The day we went, there was freshly baked sourdough bread that was to die for. It was windy and raining when we went but they still had several tables of people enjoying the oysters. Thankful for the enclosed dining area. The winds were crazy.

6/8/2025 Hog Island Oyster Farm 20215 Shoreline Hwy Marshall, CA 94940 My nephew and I went there on a Sunday Oyster Odyssey. It's located in Marshall on Tomales bay. We left from San Francisco and traveled on HWY 1 to Marshall in the middle of nowhere on a narrow windy road. The drive was scenic and stressful. Parking is on gravel roadside and was pretty full when we got there around 12:30 PM. There is a booth to get seated at the outdoor picnic table dining area, there was no inside dining when we were there, bring a jacket. Service was good and helpful. We got the Rockfish Ceviche and a dozen oysters. The Ceviche came with nacho chips and was very good, fresh and spicy. The oysters were fresh, tasty and came with a Mignonette sauce which was very vinegary, make sure you stir this well before consuming. I would have preferred a cocktail sauce. The cell signal gets weak or nonexistent about 10 miles around the place, so check your exit route before you get there. If I did it again I would go north to Petaluma then west to Marshal, the roads are much friendlier. The food was very good but pricey. Maybe repeatable.

Outdoor seating only, bring a blanket if it's cold out! Oysters were so delicious! Our group ended up ordering more grilled oysters and it was perfect for the cold windy day. Fresh oysters were also fantastic but the grilled ones are definitely worth waiting for.

I love coming to places like this and enjoying the outdoor vibes with fresh seafood. Unfortunately for me, it always happens to rain when I try :') Not all the tables here have umbrellas for some reason, and all the ones that do were fully reserved. This was a bit spontaneous for me, so I was out and exposed in the rain. We ordered 2 dozen raw oysters ($88), 4 grilled oysters ($18), and smoked oysters ($12). The raw oysters were whatever today's special was, and we could not choose. I don't think the staff mentioned what they were either. I do wish we could've had more variety in the platter. Not sure what I was expecting for the smoked oysters, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised at the flavor. Definitely recommend trying! The prices were exactly the same as in SF when dining in, and being the idiot I am, I assumed the retail menu I saw online were going to be the dining prices. Got a huge sticker shock for sure. Then, they add a 5% surcharge on top of that, which I'm never happy about. Overall, I don't think the price was worth the long drive and overall experience considering how it's not much different than staying right in the city. I'd like to check out all the other local gems in the area next time instead.

    Edison H.

Same prices as the ones from the Ferry Building so was the drive worth it for the extra freshness?! I'm telling myself it was. Still can't escape the surcharge fees though . There are limited outdoor seating with umbrellas. I highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time so you can secure those seating. It's hard to predict the weather in North Bay. We were lucky it was just a light sprinkle by the time we got here and ate. Decent view all around! We ordered their oysters of the day, grilled oysters, and smoked oysters. The smoked oysters stole the show. They looked nothing like what we expected but the taste was really good! The Japanese influence definitely appealed to our taste buds. Overall an good experience here despite the rain.

Absolutely worth the shuckin' trip to Hog Island Oyster Co. in Marshall! The raw oysters were so fresh, they practically winked at us--and don't skip the hogwash mignonette, it's like a flavor mic drop in your mouth. But the real star? The grilled oysters with chipotle bourbon butter. Smoky, buttery, and outrageously good--we even bought a tub of that magic sauce to take home (yes, they sell it for $15 and yes, we have no regrets). The cheese board for two was fancy without trying too hard, and the spicy clams with nacho chips? Unexpectedly awesome, like a seafood fiesta in every bite. The staff were super friendly too--10/10 for vibes. Just about an hour from Point Reyes, so if you're nearby, make the detour and come hungry. Your taste buds will thank you (and maybe ask for a second round).

Ask the Community - Hog Island Oyster

What's the restroom situation for The Boat?

We have two gender neutral restrooms for guests to use - one has the urinal + toilet and the other has the changing table. There are also honey buckets on site if the restroom line is too long.

I have a reservation for the boat. Can we buy bulk oysters and BBQ with that? Or is it just the restaurant?

It is just the restaurant. There is a separate area for buying to-go orders. My understanding is you used to be able to eat on the grounds outside with a to-go order, but not now.

I'm heading up this weekend and wanted to get some oysters and mussels to go so you do that? And do you take pre orders online? Was gonna head up this Sunday

We'll be in the area on Sunday. Since reservations are all booked, do they offer takeout?…

Hi Rob! Yes they do have take out. There was a separate line for takeout. There might also be an online offering system as well but I'm not 100% sure.

Since only take out is available at this time, are the oysters packed in ice? Is hog wash offered to go as well?

Yes. We will pack the oysters on ice. We sell 7lb bags of ice as well. We are offering Hog Wash to go as well.

Are we still able to bring our own alcohol?

Nope! No BYOB during this time.

Since they serve to go order only, is there any picnic area that open around there? Thanks.

The Point Reyes Seashore has a plethora of beaches and parks. Visit the park headquarters at Bear Valley visitor center. Dillon Beach is 10 miles North. Bodega Bay is 20 miles North.

Do I need to bring the glove to cut open the oyster? Or the farm will open them for you?

At this time we are offering Oysters to go. All oysters are Live in the Shell. We sell gloves and Shucking knives. If you want Shucked Oysters, visit us at Tony's Seafood just one mile South of the Farm and we will do all the work for you.

Trying to make a reservation for the Tomales Bay location, post COVID-19 re-opening, and not having any luck. Online reservation system doesn't seem to work, and cannot reach anyone by phone. Any suggestions?

Hog Island provides rental Shucking knives and gloves. They are included in the $5 per person picnic fee along with lemons, hot sauce, and Hog Wash.

How far in advance can I make a reservation?

I make my reservation one week before and got my table.

Is it warm enough to go in January? Do they have heaters?

Yes. They do but I recommend reservations.

The restaurant's menu pivots on the tides--oysters shucked to order, clams plucked from the same waters, and pastas that arrive as both comfort and celebration. On a recent visit, the food was excellent, with the singular misstep of the clam chowder that did little to dampen an otherwise great meal. Tony's oysters, served on the half shell with a squeeze of lemon and a brisk walk along the water, are the star of the operation. The meat is briny but clean, with a crisp sweetness that speaks to careful stewardship of the bay. Whether eaten straight or with a whisper of mignonette, they possess the sort of effortless elegance that makes you forget you're in a casual, no‑frills dining room. The clams and bucatini, another menu highlight, combine plump, well‑cooked shellfish with stubby, toothsome strands of pasta in a light, shell‑infused broth that feels more like a seaside celebration than a gut‑bomb of cream and butter. The dish is both comforting and refined, letting the iodine‑tinged sweetness of the clams take center stage. The clam chowder, a house signature, arrives with plenty of fresh Manila clams and a dedicated gluten‑free preparation, but its texture--was thin without the clam brine seeping through. Tony's charms stem as much from its setting as its plate: a low‑slung structure by the water, speckled with live music on Sundays and the kind of easygoing service that suits a place where people come to linger. For all its modesty, the restaurant delivers something that feels like a small revelation: seafood that tastes like the bay that produced it, ideal for a day trip from the Bay Area where the drive is half the pleasure and the oyster another.
