Extremely disappointed with Fitness Connection and especially the manager, Jenifer. When I signed up, my membership clearly included a buddy pass. Now they're suddenly telling me my guest "wasn't on the list" and forced me to pay an extra $27. That's ridiculous. This is not what I agreed to when I signed up, and it feels like they're just finding ways to squeeze more money out of members. Jenifer was completely unhelpful, offered no real solution, and basically left me paying for something that should have already been included. If this is how Fitness Connection operates--making promises during sign-up and then backing out later--people should know before wasting their money here. read more

They closed the Westheimer @ Hayes location at the end of March 2025. That's inconvenient for myself and many guest members who live nearby. Now, need to drive far away to visit other FC locations. Canceled my membership today. Called customer service for a prorated refund of my annual club fee ($53). They refused. Amazing. Nice way to treat inconvenienced customers who had nothing to do with the closure decision. Would have been a nice gesture and a really small $ amount to own up to the facility closure. Stay away from FC. Many other gyms in the areas. FC, you are not the only game in town!!! read more

Jenifer at Fitness Connection is absolutely not manager material. Every time there's an issue, instead of helping or finding a solution, she makes things harder and less professional. When we tried to use the buddy pass included with the membership, she refused to honor it over something as ridiculous as a zip code not matching and then made us pay extra just to get in. read more

It's hard to write this but it has to be done. I joined this gym way back when they first opened. I have the original plan for $10 a month and I can go to any location. Which was the main reason I met my memeber ship as long as I have. Even when I joined other gyms with friends/gf's I always kept this one. When I started going to this location back in the day it was great, just like all new things. There was a cycling class, aerobics class, basketball court, pool, Hot tub, Sauna and steam room. Of course all the equipment was new being that the gym was brand new. The staff was friendly and helpful and always eager to answer your questions. I never had any problems with anyone nor did I have problems in the parking lot with my vehicle like others have mentioned. Last time I was here was 2015. Now in 2021 I started going back to this location and it's sad. They removed the pool and hot tub as well as the shared sauna. This Increase their weight area and the steam rooms that were in the locker rooms are now saunas. At first I thought that was a good idea until I went in there and smelled nothing but sweaty balls. Most of the TVs were not working nor were the charging ports on the cardio machines. I asked the guy working the front desk about classes and he said "we have them when the trainer shows up". I asked for a schedule and he said "don't have one cause it changes every week". I went to use the cardio machines and noticed large amounts of rust on the handles and decided it's time to part ways and find a new gym. read more

Gym it's self is ok when it's not peak hours and too crowded. Don't go 5pm-7:30. Because it's in Greenspoint I would on go in the day time anyway. Parking lot around abandoned mall is one huge pot hole after another. read more

This location makes the other locations look stellar... The first rep said the craziest thing to my husband and I when we asked about the childcare area. His response blew my mind, he says with a smirk "leave them kids at home yo" UMMM, excuse me sir?? I walked off and proceeded to look for the stairs and treadmill and NOTHING was open it was like a cluster of people using EVERY machine. I was able to find an available treadmill in the corner. Went over my the weights, OMG (it would have blew your mind) how there were no weights available and the weights were all over the gym. It was THE MOST ridiculous thing. Then there were those gym hogs that you had to be weary of, it was a HOT A** MESS in there. Like the others have mentioned it's HOOD and Ghetto. Looks like new management is NEEDED and more working machines and oh yeah not too mention some rules around making sure EVERYONE is aware of putting weights back to their normal place. Mr. Torres, very unprofessional manager of this establishment approached me in a way that was unacceptable. His first response to me was ma'am "I will cancel your membership if you don't put up your weights." Not noticing that the woman who was next to me actually asked to use them when I was finished with them. He approached me after I walked away from the women and the dumbbells. He was so focused on threatening me, he failed to ask me anything. Which is poor management and customer service skills. I am a long time customer at this gym and I have been coming to this place for years. I expected to be treated with better customer service. I was distracted after that interaction and decide to go ask for a manger. He was standing up front so I told him I didn't appreciate the way he spoke to me and I wished he would have been more professional. Signed up for a trainer because I thought it would help since I'm a petite person and a retired athlete, didn't really like it and they made me pay the additional next month to cancel so I did, I had 9 pending sessions, I had to get surgery and let the trainer know, when I came back healed and ready I got told that my sessions were lost and the over $500 was lost, THEY DON'T DO REFUNDS. After a while I get told they can only reactivate the sessions after a process but man the sessions weren't even good and I cancelled my gym membership and switched over to a professional gym Also way too many bad experiences and that's why I was okay with a male trainer because I have social anxiety and men just straight staring at me alone scares me also because I'm young But yeah Place needs a lot of help and it's in the hood also so be prepared as a women to be harassed unless you go to the womens section that has only one fan no actual A/C read more

Always go to other locations but this is the closest to where I live so finally came immediately wanted to leave. Free weights are scattered everywhere and you have to go around playing scavenger hunt to get anything a lot of equipment is damaged and in general I had a terrible workout experience it's one thing going to a packed gym and waiting for your turn on weights/machines but having to look for any is another issue read more

I'm still a member of this club.. but will not recommend others to join this club... it is not because of the staff members which, in my opinion, do their best job. Greeting club members with big, friendly smiles and making us feel like home are a few things that I recognize them. The problems are aged/damaged equipment and group classes organized...I wished that I have pictures to upload to owners/managers to view. About 10 to 15% damaged equipment in the club as of today. Only 2 or 3 group classes per week or classes without instructors. People showed up for class but no instructor appeared. TV did not have good channels or not work. Wish this place would hurry and return to its old hours. Everything in the state is pretty much back to normal but this place still closing at 10pm and shuts down even earlier Friday-Sunday. When I signed up it was until midnight which was perfect! There were quite a few times I couldn't get there until 10pm. Other gripes and concerns are the bathrooms are disgusting! So, I'm torn about this review. This is a great location. We have been VIP members since the spring and I have been coming to this location since then. Mostly due to it's convenience for me. The main floor is perfect. At the beginning I had issues with the daycare, (they were to open at 8am but no one was there) but that was easily resolved. I take issue with the women's weight room. The equipment in there is a joke. The last time I went in there, (which was only 1 time, outside of the time, I walked through it, during signup) I couldn't even use the piece of equipment, because it was broken. I basically went in and walked right back out, it's so cramped and so decrepit in there! Have I been a member to a better gym? Of course. But am I getting more for my membership? This was my first day actually working out in the gym today. I work out in the morning for one reason... because I've been wanting to get a good workout in before going into my job and my current gym doesn't have a shower because it's one of those older $10 a month gyms and they indicated that the cost that you're paying per month is the primary reason why they don't provide showers. I called bull crap on that when I stepped into this particular gym this morning(I'm talking to you Fitness 19). This gym is inside of Greenspoint mall is essentially dead but the gym was opened a few years ago in a particular section that used to be an old Foleys store. It was incredibly well lit to be so early in the morning. I didn't feel like my belongings would be stolen because my guess is that all the hoodlums are still asleep. Walking in the equipment is very nicely laid out it's an incredibly huge facility and reminds you of your standard 24 hour fitness sport. The cardio equipment is very new and updated the problem that I have being a larger gentleman is that when I want to run a couple miles on the treadmill the running mat tends to skip that is usually an indicator of a cheaper treadmill but I did not have this issue at all with these when I got on the treadmill this morning. I love the fact that they have a very open concept of a gym that way you don't have to go upstairs or downstairs and can easily access your cardio and free weights or machines. I noticed that a lot of the actual machines do look a bit dated. But they are functional nonetheless and are very well-maintained. The fact that this location has a pool basketball court and expansive weight area is just incredibly crazy for $10. My guess.. because I used to work at 24 hour fitness back in college is that gym is banking on people getting memberships but not actually showing up to utilize it so that is a smart hustle. But you definitely get a lot of bang for your buck. My only issue with this gym is the shower area. I was never the type of person that was super comfortable in communal restrooms and showers back in my football days and I still am not. This gym has completely open communal showers with partitions in between each stall but the front door area is missing so essentially you can anyone can see your behind while you're showering and vice versa. If they get that rectified I will be a happy camper. I noticed that they posted a sign that they're going to be doing some upgrades soon and it looks like the pool area is going to be removed so that they can extend another 5000 ft.² of turf work out area for functional training so that's pretty neat because I'm not much of an indoor pool person anyway. All in all I am very happy and have not been charged more than $10.87 because I got the membership last month when they had a $10 down $10 per month no strings attached promotion going on. The only thing that you need to be aware of with these types of Gyms and any gym is that they usually have a yearly maintenance fee and this location is no different. The maintenance fee is roughly $30 and it's charged every July. If you'd like all club access I believe you have to pay a $20-$30 down payment if my understanding of their new promotion is correct. I would not recommend coming to this gym or any gym during the 5 o'clock to 7:30 PM rush-hour. I hear that this location being that it's Greenspoint can get pretty packed and some people have indicated that it's pretty "ghetto" but that doesn't mean you won't get a good work out. Usually those individuals that make the "Too ghetto"comments are you're more snooty closet-racist that are using coded language(ghetto) to talk about a specific demographic that they may feel uncomfortable working out with. That's just fine you can spend $60-$120+ at lifetime fitness while I'm saving all my dinero and getting the exact same work out for 90% cheaper. read more

I like the gym but it is too crowded in the evenings. People tend to live on the machines. One would think that they actually own the machines. People ALL OF THE TIME are on the machines and actually using their phone for social media, texting, and whatever else they are doing. This really really really times 1000 gets on my nerves. I so wish they would get off of the machines so others can use them. Gym is so very crowded I can not stand it. The gym does not open early enough for me to go early in the morning before work. I totally understand the hours; because of the location. I wish their was specified designated police to guard the gym so the gym could open at like 6am and people can go work out before work. Oh well who am I voice my opinion. I struggle with going to gym after work because I am so tired from working all day and then sitting in traffic to get home to change and then go. That is simple too much. The guys I see as trainers seem really nice. One in particular. I do not know his name but he has a very pleasant personality and he always speaks. Really friendly guy. Overall I like fitness connection, but no one has gym etiquette at this location. There are never dumbbells on the racks because people never place them back. You have to go around the huge gym trying to find the dumbbells you need. I highly recommend a different fitness connection location. However I've never had an issue with the staff, they keep the restrooms clean and seem friendly. read more

The gym itself is good. But. Either don't go or go and risk your catalytic converter from be stolen. It was my first and last time there. Caught two guys in the act of stealing my dads catalytic converter. Luckily we scared them off just in time. They need security to be roaming around the parking lot. Especially with a lot of cars there. Yea ten dollars is good but don't be surprised when you lose 1,000-3,000 dollars. read more

Have been going to this location for years, they had my car towed for no reason, parked right in front of the gym in a proper parking space. I talked to the employees about it and they said people were towed all the time (Seven in one day), so just beware that your car may not be where you parked it after your workout. read more

I will NEVER EVER join this gym or step foot inside of it again in my life. It's always crowded during the week. You can barely use any equipment. Most of the time you have to wait for someone to Finnish. I saw a kid that wanted to play basket ball. He walked on the court and some guy told him to get off because a game was going on. He either had to sign up to play the next game or get out. Maybe some people just want to shoot around but to deny them of that opportunity when they are a paid member is just plain stupid in my opinion. I tried to cancel my membership. They told me I would have to do so online. I checked online and the website I was given said I needed a password and login. Called them back to ask for it I was put on hold for 30 minutes. I called back and they hung up on me. I called for a third time and I was finally given both. I found out I would be charged again and then a second time after canceling my membership. This place had a 4-lane pool, from 3'-5' deep. Has a jacuzzi and sauna. The chlorine felt balanced but after 45 min, my buddy and I were hurting since it was stinging our eyes. Otherwise the pool and jacuzzi did the job of stretching and relaxing sore muscles. The sauna IS packed with people and this was on a Monday at 2:30pm. It gets more packed after 4pm when folks get out of work. Cleanliness of pool: the pool appeared clean so that wasn't too bad. It wasn't packed so I enjoyed doing ab work there. The sauna had a good amount of heat, which was extremely refreshing; the sauna had a lot of bubbles, but the mound of bubbles in the center had "brown" stuff - which meant dead skin cells being aggregated by the water jets - it maybe needs a new filter. There are rinsing showers between the pool and sauna to rinse off with. ------------ Now for the important part: the gym itself. The setup when you enter is: at the front there's the kiosk to scan in. The cardio area is at the right with step machines, ellipticals, treadmills. It wasn't packed with folks. They have a floor area at the far back of the cardio area (about 10'x20' where you can do stretches, planks, abs, etc.; there's 3-4 benches where you can do dips but no weights like kettles or weighted balls (for abs or goblet squats, etc). They need also tubes or weighted ropes, but they don't have space unfortunately... Then from there you encounter the abs and leg machines, then arms and chests, then you have the pulleys and pull-up/dips areas. Lastly at the far end you have the free weights. This was my only complaint: the benches (about 10 inclines and 5 90-degree benches) are worn out and I did not see any wipes or at least a spray bottle/towels accessible. They were sparse therefore most of the guys didn't bother wiping down. Although there were a lot of weight racks (about 8-10 racks) with weights ranging from 10lbs - 95 lbs, the guys would hog the weights and keep them at their bench areas; but mind you, the guys are pretty nice and (with my experience) are not meat heads who shout and drop their weights. So I didn't have a good selection of weights for my supersets but as long as I had my money's worth - that's ok. But I could not find the wipes and the only bench (incline) I had available had sweat marks on it. And I used it since I was there to work out - not be prissy clean. They have a Zumba, kickboxing, trainer area for classes; the schedule is at the front desk. They also have a spin class. Showers: has a communal shower with NO doors, you just have separators between shower heads (about 12 stalls). Gross. Men's Bathroom: about 5 urinals, 5 toilets. Toilet doors need new coat hangers since I had no place to put my gear (the floor is wet from folks coming out of the pool). I would dress up out in the open by the lockers (different lockers sizes; it's a BYOLock), but some of the benches/floors are wet from those coming out of the pool. The plus is that the sinks work and are filled with soap. And had paper towels/air dry machines. For refreshments there's water fountains but they are VERY far away - so if I leave my bench, there's a chance someone may take it. There's vending machines too - overpriced but if you didn't bring your drink you gotta pay. Customer Service: Now, the staff are pretty quick with helping you with whatever you need. I got a quick tour and the guy gave me a nice membership offer - but I declined UNTIL I had my work out (the worse thing to do is to sign-up without even trying out the facility). The offer I got was $25/yearly renewal fee, $10/month membership. No contract. That's pretty good. However, I've had a gym before that DID NOT HAVE a pool, jacuzzi, sauna or the size of FC, but it was clean, updated Olympic benches and weights, with new machines. Also, they had everyday a class you can jump into (space willing). The price was $15/month, $20/ year renewal membership fee. No contracts. It's a matter of preference: cleanliness is a must for me since again this is a high-traffic gym. If you like a big gym with all these amenities but don't mind someone else's sweat on you. Go for it. I've heard of guys getting staph or methicillin-resistant staph aureus (MRSA); not cool. Summary: The price is good with what you get. But it gets crowded, needs better placed cleansing wipes, bathroom and jacuzzi needs maintenance. Oh by the way I can't finish this review without commenting that the little lady who was cleaning the trash, etc is very good at what she does; it's hard work but she did a FANTASTIC job emptying the trash!! read more

Been at this gym since August 2007, before the "$9.95 /mo" dealio was going on. Ever since, this location has been very friendly, clean, and well maintained. They've gone through a lot of changes it seems - new managers, personal trainers, and counter people. They have a busy kids daycare you can drop them off (you can monitor them on tv screens throughout the gym). They've recently expanded the Spinning room (it gets 100% max occupancy and many nights even after the expansion! It took over a previous manager's office), they added rows of more cardio equipment and added some more ab machines and a bigger area for stretching and floor work, also made the private ladies' workout room bigger with several huge flat screen tvs. There now are one of those temporary lockers you can use to store things if you forget to bring your lock. It has a basketball court that is always occupied, a swimming pool that seems to go through regular maintenance and water quality testing, a dry sauna and hot whirl pool (a bit small in my opinion, about 8-10 person?) The changing room/showers/toilets are clean and well maintained. They have at least 1 staff member during gym prime time constantly walking around and wiping down machines. I frequently go to their classes they offer - they have a good staff of instructors. I see the sales team walking new potential clients around the gym all the time. And I see personal trainers with their clients all the time as well. This place is BUSY! This location used to be the Greenspoint Mall "FOLEY'S" and an insightful individual brought Fitness Connection here to compete with the Bally's on the other side of I-45. Although it is in a 'ghetto' area I have never felt threatened or nervous about regularly going. There is a security patrol car that drives around and the parking lot is lit with a camera or two (also on display on the tv screens). All it is missing is a running track and racquet courts! Wow. Yelping once again. The past 2 and half months have been hell for me on ALOT of different fronts, so I took a hiatus from alot of things in my life. Sadly Yelp was included. It seems that I'm back on track now, so Yelp....Welcome back! I get a free membership to work out at Fitness Connection through my job (which rocks), however it wasn't until about 3 weeks ago I started to use the damn thing. The Fit Con at Greenspoint is literally across the beltway from my job. Although the area is referred to as "Gunspoint", I NEVER once became worried about my safety. This place has your usual gym setup. A plethora of cardio machines and your usual strength training machines on one side. Free weights on the other. A very well kept pool and Sauna in the back and a nice sized basketball gymnasium on the left hand side. They have a female only gym for the ladies, and also a daycare for the kiddos. The only CONS would be the fact that they are not open 24 hrs/day nor do they have racquetball. That's not cool. I don't play it, but I want to. Badly. HPD has a substation manned 24 hrs/day right next to Fit Con which has cut down on alot of the crime. I always prefer to go work out right after work (which is around 615AM). I don't think too many criminals want to break in my car that early. All in all, I don't think you can beat the quality for the price you pay (or don't if you're like me). $9.95/month is just too good to pass up. read more

The gym is good and what you pay for, however I am upset that they were supposed to have the new steam room done by now and they haven't even started on it. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT sign up for trainer sessions. NOT WORTH the money, just get off your bum do your research and get the work done. I am actually sending in my 30 notice to cancel training sessions as I write this review. Their employee/trainer turn over is horrible, I've had 3 trainers now in one month and my last session with the new trainer, she didn't even schedule me for my next session. She was nice, don't get me wrong, but the whole system and set up is screwed when it comes to that part of the gym. I'm not thrilled about the people currently running the daycare either. First off there's always at least a 15 minute wait to sign your child in or pick them up. When you walk in the women are yelling at children and sitting them up against the wall not even ALLOWING them to play on the provided jungle gym or sit in the movie room or play in the game room. The women look at a lot of the children in disgust and I am just horrified. I have to tell my child to just stay as far away from the women as much as possible and hang in there until I am done. Fortunately for me, she is a sweet girl that listens and acts good and so she doesn't get the brunt end of their frustration. I just don't think you should be working in a daycare if you can't stand the "bad" kids. I am ready to try another fitness connection but I am afraid with my luck the salesmen that signed me up might not have signed me up for all gyms like I asked him to, but I suppose we will find that out soon. read more

A co-worker referred me to this gym and I was very apprehensive at first due to the area it is in but I still gave it a try. The first couple times I went it was ok but very crowded. Smelled funny. People were waiting to use the machines. The girls at the front desk are young, have attitudes and not very welcoming so if you have any questions dont ask them because the dont want to be bothered. They have trainers walkin around trying to get you to sign up for sessions which I did and it was not worth it. A waste of $90/month. If you dont mind being starred at the whole time by old man and high schoolers and girls half naked then this is the perfect place for you. You get what you pay for. First off, I apologize for the 1 star review. I was not able to rate any lower than that, as it should be 1/10th of a single star. Less even. Fitness Connection bought out my old gym recently, Sound Fitness off of Westheimer. I was never notified of this by email, phone or mail. I found out because when I went to the Sound Fitness location to go work out one night, the building was empty and a taped white paper on the window stated that they were now Fitness Connection. This was complete news to me...no heads up? No courtesy call? No nothing. I went home and checked my bank statements to see if I had been charged for the recent month. There were new membership charges from Fitness Connection that same week. Not once did they contact me allowing me the choice to accept the new membership with them or to cancel. Instead, they decided to charge my account without me knowing. Is that illegal? Sounds like it is. I contacted the gym, and they told me I can only cancel my membership via their corp. office. I did so, and they told me I had to mail in a paper request of cancellation and that it will take 30 days to process ONCE they receive it. From the comments I've read here and pretty much everywhere else I did a search on these scammers, I feel certain that my request will never be filled and go unanswered. We will see. To be taken advantage of like this, to see other people scammed and to have no control over it makes me feel helpless and victimized. I'm not in contract with them, but if I block them from charging my card with my bank, or if I cancel my credit card, they have the power to screw my credit up as well. I would have a hard time supporting this business. They have an automattic dialer for collections, that calls my office every day. Every day for over a month now. No one at my office has ever been a customer of this company. It gets worse. When I call the number their auto dialer gives, it's voice mail hell. If you press any extension, to try to talk to a human, they put you on hold. What a miserable way to treat your (potential) clients. They have left us on hold for at least ten minutes on every call. In fact, they typically never come back to the phone. I highly recommend 24 Hour Fitness. They are amazing, and, they answer their phone! I've been a customer there for 12 years. Run, save yourself, avoid Fitness Connection. I'm on the phone holding right now, for over 15 minutes. Just trying to stop the call we get from them daily. What a pain. read more

first off this place is shit! especially with customer service!! i have been on the phone for almost an hour trying to cancel my membership! a employee said we can cancel on the phone that to just follow the steps on the phone call. i tried to email them and couldn't do that either! i caled the manager and she said i had to go in and give my signature to cancel?! why the fuck would you need my signature to cancel my membership?! i never had to deal with this before! i even asked a fitness connection employee at a different location and they said to just call and cancel if i chose to cancel!!! they are basically robbing me of my money at this point! and on top of that there is no cancellation option on your membership account! save your money and work out at home! these gyms are just going to rob you of your money! read more
