Came here for a Red Elvises show. Dinner at Wishbone and drinks and free wifi at Sidebar while waiting for the main club to open, as there was another show before the Elvises. I must say that Fitzgerald's truly has all the bases covered. My friend even found an amazing parking space. read more

I'm not sure if it's the bar or the amazing shows that I've seen at this venue. Well, I know it's the Red Elvises show, but I think the FitzGerald's bar added to the overall experience. The bar is old and bit up and it gives it a very homey feel, the drinks are cheap and the service is fast. The two times I've been there the place was not overly crowded although it felt full. I think it's easy to find a table or a bar stool if you be there early enough. The sound in this place is great and I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking to see an amazing live show! read more

The acts at this venue are usually very talented and the sound is great. You can order in your own food from local take out places. There's a bit of an older crowd here...definitely not a city club. (Although I did spot a few hipsters here once...guess it depends on the act.) read more

Fitzgeralds is a very nice venue to enjoy a show. However, Capri restaurant advertises carry out to eat during the show. I placed a order and was told 15-20 min for pick up. I mistakenly assumed this would be perfect timing to catch the show as it was 25 min before show time. When i arrived 20 min later i was met with blank stares from the staff. After being stalled for 15 min i was told they were really busy and my order would have to be re taken. Another 15-20 min wait. I asked to speak to a mgr. Again blank stares and ' We are really busy tonight '. Not to worry, there are no shortage of regular customers at the bar to tell you how great the place is while you are missing your show waiting for food that doesn't come. Mine you, I was there to see Ronnie Baker Brooks just days after his legendary father had passed hoping to see a once in a lifetime tribute to the man. I missed the first 30 min of the show dealing with a non responsive staff. When i related all of the above, I got not even a fake sincere apology. I cancelled my order and received an 'ok no problem ' from the staff. I will never spend another dime at Capri restaurant and will encourage others to do the same. FYI just 1 block West of Fitzgerald is a taco place just waiting to feed anyone around with nothing but gratitude and decent food. I'm sure nobody at Capri will ever care about this review given their attitude last night. read more

Ok so I grew up in Oak Park and this past Friday wanted to listen to some music so suggested Fitzgerald's to my friend. After a $20 Uber ride from Hinsdale, we hung out in the side bar for a bit and then went to check out the main bar and was greeted by the bouncer who I now cringe at the thought of. We were hesitant to go in because it was a $20 cover and did not know of the band but he put on the hard sell, talking about the great band Lonnie Brooks that was going to be playing and assured us that if we couldn't find a seat, he'd help with that. He wouldn't take a credit card (wondering, hmm, is he pocketing it?) and my friend didn't have cash so I paid for both of us, now up to $60 before the night even really got started. We wandered around looking for a seat unsuccessfully and then asked this bouncer if we could pull up a couple of stools to the bar since it was completely empty and he said no because they leave the bar open for people to get drinks, kind of strange we thought, but he brought us over to a few bar stools in the middle of the room with some coats on it and told us we could sit there. Ok so far so good. So the band started and they were great and we were having fun dancing and the band makes an announcement for requests. So I went up and requested Uptown Funk, to which they replied no and then Play that Funky Music White Boy which also got a no. Ok I'm 54 so maybe even though these songs to me are fun to dance to, maybe not their thing. So I texted my son in NOLA and asked him for a suggestion of a great jazz/blues song and he texted me one and now, and in hindsight to my great regret, when the song the band was singing ended went up and asked them for this one. They again said no and I went back to my seat since I had just ordered my second glass of wine for the evening when all of a sudden the bouncer is standing next to me and in front of a room full of people and tells me "You are disrupting the performance." Now I go to black ties and fancy galas regularly and will admit this bar scene is a little new for me (in the middle of a divorce after 27 years of marriage) so I was instantly totally shocked, hurt and kind of confused and super humiliated. So after a moment's thought I say "Hey, just so you know, the band asked for requests and that's what I was doing." He replied with "You know I'm the one who got you these seats. You don't even care about the show, you are talking on your cell phone." Was it because we were dancing and having fun and not sitting in our seats that he approached us?? There were certainly other people also dancing. Were we blocking the view of the people sitting behind us? Then why do they put a dance floor in front of the seats? Why not just put a big sign when you enter that there is no dancing allowed! We would definitely have walked away. At this point I just wanted to get out of there, I was so embarrassed at my age to be reprimanded by a bouncer for "inappropriate behavior??" Then I said to him that we would be leaving and he rudely replies "That would be good" and walks away. So we left there and left my $9 glass of wine ($7 plus tip) on the counter. I spent almost $100 for an evening at Fitzgerald's to basically be humiliated. The band asked for requests, I didn't go up there uninvited. I wasn't talking on my cell phone, I was just texting my son to get a name of a fun song to request. There was no sign that said "No dancing during performance." So I would basically say that if you are an outgoing person, don't go here. If you like to dance to great music, don't go here or sit in your seats quietly, that's ok too, just not for me I guess. They eliminate the opportunity to socialize by removing all the bar stools and leaving just tables. Use your cell phone with caution. And by all means if the band asks for requests, DON'T DO IT!!! The band won't play your requests and the bouncer is watching and waiting to embarrass you in front of everyone if you do make a request. read more

Been going here for years an just had my first not so good experience. Had extra tickets for what I was told, by management, was a sold out show. I was directed to the person at the door and told that he could try selling the tickets for me. We spoke and agreed that I would let him try and sell the tickets. I offered to let one be given away as a good will gesture. He asked me to check back a bit later. I checked back after the show had started, 8:00, and he asked me to come back at 9:30. When I returned at 9:30 I was asked to check back later. Checked back at 10, told to check later. Went back on my way out around 11 and he was nowhere to be found. Either he gave the tickets away or sold them and pocketed the money. I was told by Bill Fitzgerald himself that the tickets were in high demand and that people had been calling the club asking about tickets for this show. Seems very unlikely that the tickets did not sell. The whole thing left a bad taste. A great show was tainted by what I felt was a lack of honesty. read more

I'll say it...we are 68 and this is one of the few places we still go after a lifetime of concert going in Chicago.... because of the atmosphere. Our friends love it. We can sit and hear the music. The audience is respectful for a listening type concert, and dancing is joyous when the dance floor is open in front of the stage. The acts are a wide range of styles, but the talent is always excellent. The price is actually too low.... Frekonomics would say charge more to keep some of the crowds down a bit. If you want a seat go early, order food from next door, get your drinks and relax. If you are there to dance, come anytime. I don't want to be a crank, but I really want to hear a singer-song writer and not have the audience yacking through the songs. At Fitzgerald's that has NEVER happened, and I think if it did they would clear the idiots out. Sets start at a reasonable time and are often straight through so you leave at a reasonable time. Drink prices are practically free. There may be no better music value in all of Chicago. read more

Attended the 33rd American Music Festival and had a great time quaffing Blue Moon wheat ales and wolfing down a Po Boy Andouille Sausage sandwich, which was excellent. When I am back in the area, I am going to back for some more fun. read more

Fitzgerald's is the kind of venue that spoils you. While covers can drift a little high sometimes, it's usually because of the quality of the musicians that come in and how close you can get to them. Bill Fitzgerald puts many different types of groups on the stage, so check the schedule ahead of time to make sure you don't show up expecting geriatric jazz and get "Los Straitjackets," or vice versa. read more

Celebrated my wifes birthday here in their private party / banquet room. Nicely decorated room with a warm homey atmosphere. Great staff and their party planner made everything easy for me. Everything was setup well in advance so we could put up decorations. We loved our waitresss!!! I was able to cater in food from Capri restaurant next door and brought in my own deserts. All-in-all, a fun, affordable party. read more

I have been at Fitzgeralds about a half-dozen times now and each time it gets better. The place has a friendly vibe. The stage location puts you up close no matter where you are in the room. There is also a very quaint back bar that we recently discovered that is worth checking out. There are a few other bars on the Roosevelt Road strip in Berwyn like Friendly Tap that are good to stop at for a pre-fitz cocktail. read more

We went here to attend the American Music Festival on a weekend afternoon. Thus, this review is based on that experience as opposed to the experience that would be experienced during the rest of the year. We were attracted by the music line-up for the festival. The festival is held outside in a tent filling what I believe is the parking lot and there is also a smaller venue inside as well. The place had a nice feel too it and had Bell's Oberon on tap. They have a variety in music, sometimes southern blues, rock-a-billy, jazz, tribute bands...I really like that since I like variety in music and trying new things. Good crowds, having fun. Din't waste your money on this poorly managed venue that is only concerned about how many people they can cram in so they make a buck. The last time I was there I said never again, but the lure of Marcia Ball was stronger than my bad memories of the last time I was there. The acts NEVER start on time, there were two sound breakdowns during the first half of the show, it was overcrowded with no seating unless you went into the tent (and you couldn't hear anything from in there) and it was so hot it was unbearable. We left at intermission. Marcia Ball deserves better than this. Stick to The Old Time School of Folk Music, Marcia! Oh, and if you ever get a smile or a greeting from any of the people who run this place, let me know. read more

This year's American music fest had one glaring deficiency-------fully 50% of the seating had been removed. Therefore only those with the stamina to stand long hours in the heat should bother with this festival next 4th of July weekend. Find another venue! read more

Love this place! Adding it to my list of favorite venues. Fitzgeralds, as far as I am concerned is a concert venue on par with SPACE in Evanston and City Winery. Fun, clean and great acts. May not be as posh as City Winery but who needs posh when the artists and sound quality are so good. Bonus: Really clean bathrooms. read more

Apparently this bar/club has a "Silence is golden" rule. Even when music is playing and loud. I went with a few friends for an evening. As we chatted, at a respectable level the owner came to tell us we needed to "stop talking" while the artists were performing. Before he interrupted us, we were talking about our now grown children's response to the movie Home Alone. We weren't especially loud, nor were we obnoxious. The last time I was there which was 7 years ago I received similar treatment. This leaves me to wonder what environment this dude is trying to create. Does he want a silent crowd that is enraptured with which ever artist he chooses to place on his stage? Does he want me to finger snap my approval after silently absorbing the sounds he approves? I thought it was a bar, meant for the patrons to have a beer, enjoy some music and socialize with their friends. I was wrong. I struggled to enjoy the artists (even though they were talented and entertaining). I quickly finished my beer and left. I will never patronize this place again for fear my presence indicates approval. Having said all that, the server was prompt and delightful and the artists were skilled and entirely enjoyable (had the owner not sullied my experience. Rumor has it he's trying to sell.
