I was shopping for gifts for two of my favorite friends who happen to have their January birthdays one day apart. A group of us were meeting for a celebratory dinner, and I was on the hunt for a fun, unique gift for each of my pals. Though I gave the store a good walk-through, I didn't find anything that jumped out at me. I ended up settling for gift cards for each of them. One of the ladies Loves HG, so I knew she'd be happy to have a reason to go shopping. The other one doesn't need much in her home, but likes to have fun finds for their garden / patio, so that should work out well, too. Usually HG stores are very well merchandised and do displays that feature seasonal items, or different color schemes or themes. This location didn't have standout displays to catch my attention. It seemed a little unorganized. The line to check out was very long. Much longer than I'd have expected on a Tuesday afternoon. They could have used at least one or two more cashiers. Then the one younger woman who took care of me got confused on the gift cards and didn't know how much was on each one and had to get a supervisor. The amounts were different because I did have a smaller gift I'd ordered online for one of the friends. I didn't want to end up giving the wrong card to each birthday gal. It took even longer for her to find a supervisor who could help her. Overall, the visit didn't go very smoothly. I still love HomeGoods, just not this specific store based on the experience last week.

It's now jam-packed with a surprisingly HUGE assortment of small goods, often haphazardly strewn across loosely organized shelves. It's NOT all the same stuff found in other dollar stores. I especially enjoy taking time to systematically stroll through the aisles to unfailingly find useful "stuff." Most items are truly discounted, well below chain retailers. But a few (mostly brand name packaged foods) are priced well above. If you're knowledgeable, you'll be fine. The owner and the main worker/cashier know me and are always upbeat and helpful. They've even special ordered case-quantities of uncommon food items when I only found a few packages on the shelves. Best of all, the line is never long and moves fast. Is it a primary store/market? No. But it's a useful & convenient secondary. Highly Recommended.

They charge a $8 gift wrapping fee and you're charged for your selected ribbon and gift wrap. While it was expensive to get the gift wrap, I honestly didn't mind it since it was sooo cute. I would consider doing this again for specialty gifts but if I had more time I would have just wrapped it myself. Staff is always very friendly upon entry, very welcoming and they try to help if you're looking for something specific.

It was more toward the pricer end so she didn't purchase it. But then she saw a earring that matches her necklace and really wanted it. So I told her to wait until after we eat before buying just if she changed her mind. She didn't so we went back after our dinner and she purchased the earrings. Anyway, I stumbled upon the Calabasas Commons because I had looked up in that app, "Around Me" and found that close to one of my three jobs I worked while going to School for my Doctorate, the Calabasas Commons was on my way home from work to where I lived in West Hollywood. I stopped by right away because it mentioned a Barnes & Noble being one of the stores there. First, I spotted M. Fredrick. I saw those gorgeous, hand-picked by their buyer. I didn't realize quite how much less expensive ever was in LA compared to San Francisco. Now, this many years later, it's no longer a thought nor a thing because I've lived here so long, but it was astonishing to me back when I was freshly 22. I picked out about 20-25 pieces of the most beautiful jeans, sweaters, shirts, shoes, tank tops and dresses. I also bought a pair of sweatpants that felt like thick silk, but mostly, like a white tiger- they were the first thing I bought the next morning on my break from work; so, I vividly remember that they were $600 before tax, which, to be honest, I did think they were on the pricey side, but I didn't think of it again. The many items I had purchased the afternoon prior came to almost $23,000, but I never ever in my life looked at prices of anything, so, it was no thing and to this day, I remember probably 7/8ths of what I bought. The clothes were definitely worth it and I would do it again, even now. The only problem is that they don't make clothes how they used to. We don't have the materials or aren't willing to use them on designer boutique clothing. Every chance I could, I went to an M. Fredric store for the next 10 years.

I like shopping for Christmas items for the following year as well as giving some of the stuff to family and friends. Able to find some great deals. Now they have someone at entrance of the store in which before entering, they have you look up at the camera before entering. I guess its a way to provide a safer environment. Overall, I will be coming back to this location since it's a preferred location.
