When I first heard that Five Guys was coming to Alameda I was remotely excited. I had the Five Guys in Irvine and up here in Hayward so I was familiar with the chain. My usual is just the cheeseburger with lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and grilled mushrooms. I've had this specific Five Guys two times and it was below standard. Two members of the kitchen staff seemed to be too preoccupied with flirting with each other to call my number. Simply put I will not be coming back here again - there are better burger places in the vicinity. Rather go to in and out instead of this establishment. read more

No employee cleans up the messes of customers and sadly neither do the customers so we had to clean up our own table just to eat. Also while ordering both me and my girlfriend were rushed through our orders so now we just hope the front clerk got it right and that our burgers don't come with relish or jalapeños or onion. And in addition, the floors are also filthy since the customers clean up tables by just swiping the crumbs of the table onto the floor. If I were to review his place solely on customer service they'd get 5 stars. Too bad I had to try the food...that's where the 2 stars come into play. Gross. I know the burger was made fresh but it just had that old taste to it....like it wasn't made fresh...like it had been sitting under a heat lamp. Nothing spectacular at all. And the fries? Yuck. Very good burger and lots of good topping choices. Bacon and mushrooms stand out, and not a thin slice of soggy bacon, either - a heaping topping of crispy bacon. The fries are excellent and there are peanuts to snack on while you wait. Parking in the shopping center lot is ok. A 4 or 5 star experience based on quality and service, but gotta deduct a star because the place is expensive! Excellent cajun fries. My wife and I don't eat beef, so she chose the veggie sandwich option and I went with the BLT. They were really small and overpriced. Too bad. If they were more fulfilling, or some other better alternative to beef patties, we could easily see ourselves coming here weekly. A great place to satisfy your hunger! The burgers here are freshly made, with fresh toppings. I always get the little burger with all toppings + jalapeno peppers. The peppers are fresh and not the pickled ones so they will give you quite the kick if you are into spicy foods. I love how they put a lot of lettuce and thick slices of tomatoes in their burgers making it taste very hearty. I love the french fries here, which they fry in peanut oil, and somehow that makes it taste so much better. If you are looking for an all around fulfilling burger, this is the place! read more

I'm so happy they've built a Five Guys in our own backyard! We visited here the other day and had a great experience. The people serving us were all very friendly and the food was great. I mean if you're looking for something meaty, greasy, and will fill you up for days to come, this is it! I like five guys and I've been to a few before, in SoCal when I used to live there and here a couple times. But tonight when I went with my husband, I felt like we were racially profiled. The girl that works there took our order, so me and my husband were talking about on who would pay if we had cash but he paid with his card instead, so the girl asked for his id which wasn't a problem. But we only paid for 2 largest fries, but whatever. But when another customer came a white male and ordered he also paid with card, he wasn't asked for his id... That there made me trip, why did they ask for our id for only $10 but when the man ordered no one asked for his id?.... read more

The food was just ok. I don't know why all the raving and hype about this burger joint. It is very heavy. And I don't think the fries were all that and I don't like the fact that they use peanut oil in the fryers. So beware all the parents with kids who have peanut allergies. Scary! Ok I hesitate in writing this review, as it really is as good as it gets. I should say as a disclaimer I was not raised in California, so i do not understand the obsession with in and out. I say that because without a doubt five guys is a lot better then in and out. They have a relatively small menu, fairly straight forward burgar place. The two things that set this francise apart from the others, the fresh abondant toppings. The patty is always cooked to perfection. I also love thier fries, there always seems to be more then enough for four people in the reqular size. The first time I went I made the mistake of oredering the double patty....that was too much food for me. Now I stick with the regular hamburger, it totally fills me up. I used to work at In N Out and was pretty loyal to them but honestly I prefer this place! The huge selection of toppings and when you order bacon they really pile it on! Burgers are great. Fries are really good too. One of the things I love is that when you order fries to go they literally dump a ton in the bag. Way more than can fit in the fries container. Score! The place is always pretty clean and they have a few high chairs (plus since I have a toddler). Oh and they have a box of free peanuts to munch on while you wait for your food - also great for keeping a toddler preoccupied before a meal. I'm not the type to write reviews often but sometimes excellence needs to be recognized. My dad and I were here for lunch today and this man came in and ordered his food, then started complaining quite loudly about how the prices keep getting higher. The woman helping him didn't understand everything he was saying, so she asked another employee (who I assume is the manager?) for help. The customer then began making a scene, cursing her out and making personally offensive comments. The other worker who came to help her before (a tall kid with glasses- again.. manager?) stepped up to her defense and, very professionally, told him to take his money and leave. The man then got aggressive and shouted threats and profanities and the worker continued to tell him that they don't put up with that there, he can leave. We were so impressed with how he handled the situation and looked out for his coworkers as well as the other customers in the restaurant. So awesome!! Also, the food was perfect as always read more

This location is not as good as the ones I've been to in SoCal, but it has a lot of potential. For one, the service is great! Everyone was friendly, energetic and efficient. The burger was good, but a small part of my patty was really charred and I had to cut that part out (it was literally rock hard). I think I still prefer In N Out burgers, but that's a never ending debate. The fries were very very soggy, which was the biggest disappointment since I LOVED their fries at the other locations. Hopefully they fix this soon. The location is great and fairly spacious including the outdoor seating. I'll definitely give them another try since they just opened. read more

I'm distressed that we have to give a minimum of one star. Zero. Zilch. Ningunos stars might be more indicative of our experience here. I've eaten at other 5 Guys that rated a few stars at least, pretty good burgers. I got a Pathetic Burger. Ordered the regular hamburger with grilled onions and grilled mushrooms. What I received a good 10+ minutes later were two dry, overcooked cadaver-excuses for a fine beef patty tossed between a dry bun. Nothing else. Her BLT featured a thin slice of lettuce, no tomato. The fries were so greasy they squirmed out of our fingers. A steal for $22. Only we were on the wrong side of the stealing. Will never go there again. read more

Well the Burger is five stars but I gave 4 because they didn't put salt on my fries! I know it's a minor problem but hey have you noticed McDonald's put salt on their fries! My burger was good, also they didn't cook my mushroom enough so they were still hard. My father always says" I would never give you anything that I wouldn't eat" If any place wants to get big bucks and good reviews you better lower the price and make good food. It's not that hard! I'm a hamburger fan, so when I heard about Five Guys coming to town, I had to try it. I'm glad that I did. The bacon cheeseburger is the best I've ever had. It's cooked to perfection with the a huge variety of toppings. The service may seem slow at first, but remember that your burger is being cooked just for you. There are no heat lamps here. The fries are excellent, too. A large order of fries will probably feed 2-3 people. Yes, this is the most expensive fast food burger around, but it's worth it. For some reason every time I order here the order comes out wrong and I have to get the manager to get me pieces of the right order on the side. I ordered an extra patty, it's not there. First time and gotta say, it's pretty good for a fast food restaurant. Nice big juicy fat burger with fresh toppings. Mmm, making me hungry for one right now. One thing I don't like is that this place is a la carte and the prices adds up. Regular burger, fries & drink is $12. Ridiculous. It'll be nice if they have combo meals or promote coupons. There was a lot of people at this location when we checked in around 8pm. Took awhile for the food to be ready. The restaurant space is pretty small. The aisles between the tables & chairs are narrow. Not enough space to freely walk. Overall, good tasty burgers. I love this chain. In my opinion it's better than In N Out, but of course there are things that they have that Five Guys doesn't, for example animal fries. This place gets pretty busy so don't come during lunch rush. Anyway, it's your typical fast food burger joint PLUS a super great crew. Got nothing but mad love for those folks. Burgers and fries great as always. Maturity however, there was a lack of. Several employees demonstrated disrespectful behavior, such as 'roughing each other up' in front of customers, swearing, and not listening to directions and being rude to the employees who were responsibly working. The inappropriate behavior drove us to take our food home instead of eating at the restaurant; not a huge deal but shouldn't have to happen. This was a terrible reflection on the restaurant Five Guys should represent, and I wish the manager would assert better authority on the near reckless employees to bring back the pleasant atmosphere to Alameda's Five Guy's. read more

I just came in to grab some lunch since this has only been open for less than a week and its all hyped up. I've been craving it every time I pass by on my way to work, and can smell whats cookin'. This is my first experience at a 5 Guys, so I looked over the menu that's super simple. They have burgers, fries, hot dogs, veggie sandwich, BLT sandwich, Grilled cheese, and the whole bottom of the menu is toppings you can add for free to whatever you choose to order. So I just got a Bacon Cheeseburger and fries and a drink. It came out to $13 and I guess that what you pay at a fast food place nowadays but you know at least here your food is freshly made. So I waited less than 10 mins got my food and was kinda sad they don't have RANCH... Nothing to dip their yummy not super crispy just right french fries in! Either way this pace is cool. They have good prices for fresh burgers and nice employees (there's like a million of them working in the grill area).
