They are essentially gourmet burgers that try to pretend to be from your friends backyard bbq. If your friend could cook of course. The meat is good, the burgers are put together pretty fast, and a regular fry order is enough for two people to share. A large order is sometimes a lot, and sometimes the same amount you would have gotten had you ordered a regular order. Best part about them is the ability to order online. You can order it on your way home, select the time you want to pick it up, and only have to wait for the fries to be fresh made for you! If you are willing to hang out inside, you do get some free peanuts and they of course have the freestyle coke machine, to which the possibilities are endless! My biggest peeve and the reason I did not give 5 stars is because the online ordering doesn't work all the time, and they never seem to have a working phone. I have tried ordering ahead of time and been stuck in an endless loop of not being able to finalize, and calling the restaurant for information on hours or assistance with online ordering leads to either the phone being off the hook or the service being disconnected. Not cool when you are trying to get in and out of the restaurant with little hassle. All in all a good burger joint, with a lot of options for what goes on your burger, but a bit pricy for a 'non-gourmet' place. read more

I had dinner tonight with the family and we had a great time. The kids got a kick out of peeling the free peanuts. I don't eat here often so I think I confused the worker with my order. - Little cheeseburger with everything from the black ingredients list and a few from the red. ("Everything" comes with all the ingredients written in black. Extra freebies are written in red) anyway my burger came with toppings from the red list only. I noticed after already eating half my burger. I went to ask for the missing toppings in the side and the lady replaced the entire burger! She was very nice and they were quick and accommodating. I know that rumor has it that you get enough fries to share. Don't believe that. Get your own order of fries you can never have enough Cajun fries. So when this chain moved into the area, I was excited to give it a try. I went to this location because I was waiting on something at the Sprint store in the same mall. I entered the place and thought it was pretty cool with the peanuts and decor and stuff. Then I saw the prices. What a rip off. I ended up getting a hot dog, fries and drink and paid almost $10. For a HOT DOG, FRIES AND A DRINK. Seriously, wtf is up with that? NO meal at a fast food place should be that damned expensive. The food was pretty good, but come one....ten dollars? This is our go-to place for burgers. They're pretty large and very yummy- packed with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, mushrooms, pickles, etc. I even find that the little cheeseburger is big enough for a meal. They give you so many fries and add more to the bag (the hubs and I definitely have to share those). The Cajun fries are really good too. The atmosphere could probably use a remodel and it's not necessarily the most comfortable, but it's adequate. I do wish sometimes that their menu would have a few more items but for burgers it's great. read more

5 Guys offers up the typical fast food fare; burgers, fries and hotdogs. It's above other fast food chains, thought I don't get the hype. The fries are pretty good, hot and perfectly salty. The cheeseburgers are pretty standard, like the rest of they menu. Service isn't the greatest but what do you expect from a young staff. It's more on the pricey side for fast food, therefore I can't give them more than 3 stars. This was on my list to seek the best cheap burger in the chicagoland area and I was excited to find out there was one near my church. So I went and found the place pretty old fashion with simple sayings on their walls about how great their food is. The kitchen is open and I got to order my first burger... 5 dollars for a double burger... but as many condiments as I want. Not knowing how ridiculous the price was for the burger in the first place, they suckered me to think I was ripping them off by getting practically everything on their condiment list! Shows them whose boss when I'll take everything. So I took their grilled onions, jalapenos, green peppers, mustard, ketchup, pickles, A1 sauce on side, hot sauce on side. The double patty burger looked great, meat was tender, greasy but I got to admit the flavor just wasn't there. The taste of the meat was good but the grilled onions tasted plain and the only thing saving it was the condiments especially jalapenos. But for $5 its alright. And of course I got their cajun fries... which was awesome, spiced just right and really hit the spot. They grab a simple paper cup and fill it with fries and as they put it in the bag they take another scoop and place more in your bag! Now were talking. Some of the best fries I had, these stole the whole experience. And it gets better you can get free whole peanuts to eat while you are waiting or take some on the go. Free is always good. I would rank this place as a decent burger joint but I wouldn't mind coming back here from time to time when I crave good fries with a customizable burger. read more

My boyfriend and I tried this place the other day, and we were not impressed. I don't eat red meat so I planned on getting their veggie sandwich. When I ordered it, the gentleman asked what I'd like on it. I had no idea, it didn't say what it came with. He told me it was the bun with ingredients you add to a hamburger. A lettuce, pickle, mayo sandwich doesn't sound appetizing on a bun, or worth $5. I went with the grilled cheese which was so small, my boyfriend asked if it would even be enough (I'm petite). My boyfriend got a hamburger which fell apart before he was halfway done eating it. The fries were ok, but not amazing like all the signs say in the restaurant. For both of us to eat there, and we shared a pop, it came out to nearly $20. We were throwing away our garbage, and noticed that they had peanuts you can eat while you wait for you food...except they were on the garbage can. I'm not sorry I missed them! Five Guys is currently the closest thing a Chicagoan can get to the In & Out Burger experience without hopping on a plane and flying at least 3.5 hours away. They make their burgers and fries fresh and to order, with a wide variety of free toppings that include some you just don't see at the standard burger joints. Toppings like mushrooms, grilled onions, peppers, hot sauce, BBQ sauce, A1 sauce, etc. The burgers are juicy, delicious and taste like they were freshly made (rather than being delivered by a freezer truck the night before). My step-daughter actually proclaimed her cheeseburger to be the best she has ever eaten in her short, 13 years of life on earth. I'd say a Five Guys burger could fall within the top 10 for me, but I've had many more years of eating burgers than she has! Getting back to the freshness, even the fries are made on site, where they take whole potatoes and cut them into strips for the fryer. This is evidenced by the large bags of fresh potatoes forming a wall between the waiting area and the rest of the restaurant, as well as the sign on the wall proclaiming where today's potatoes for the french fries came from (usually some unheard of city in Idaho with the name of the farm where they were harvested). Another nice touch are the free peanuts (still in the shell) that Five Guys has on hand for you to serve yourself while you await your order. The inescapable feeling about this place is that everything here has a natural, unprocessed feel about it...despite the fact that it's still fast food with the greasy bacon cheeseburgers, deep-fried potatoes, carbonated water & high-fructose corn syrups and all. There is one very important thing for newbies to understand about Five Guys: there are no photographs on the menu to see what you're getting. They have the burger menu divided by "Burgers" and "Little Burgers." One would think that the term "Little Burger" would mean "Kiddie-Sized Burger" and therefore, not to order it. You would be wrong. When you order the regular "Burger" or the regular "Cheeseburger," you are in fact getting a DOUBLE patty that is quite substantial in size. Most people (adults) would be satisfied and full with a "Little Burger," which is about the same size as a McD's quarter-pounder. Unfortunately, when you go into a Five Guys, they don't really explain this to you and nowhere on the menu does it state the difference between the two sizes of order. So, unless you specifically ask, you're not getting the information. I went to Five Guys with my kids the other day and had forgotten about the size differences. We all ordered the regular size and were shocked to see the giant double-stacked patties when the order was ready. I think at the very least, the dude at the counter should have taken a look at my tiny 11 and 13 year old daughters and said "Are you sure you want the regular and not the little-burgers for them?" But nope. He just took the order and pushed it through. By the menu's absence of a size description and no photos anywhere on it, my guess is that corporate likely encourages this behavior in an effort to raise sales and push more product out than is necessarily desired by the customer. This isn't so cool and leaves the customer feeling slightly tricked, but you soon get over it when you taste how good the burger actually is. Despite this little complaint, the staff is very friendly, highly efficient and the restaurant was impeccably clean both in the dining area and in the kitchen. I witnessed the kitchen crew completely scrub and clean the grill and surface areas of the kitchen 3 separate times while I was seated in the dining room for about 40 minutes. It seems that they are instructed to completely power clean the entire working area after each batch of orders comes through. I'd highly recommend Five Guys, but just be highly aware of the size differences in burger options before you place your order. read more

I have heard good things about Five Guys, so I was excited to see there was one opened on my way home. I decided to stop in one night and try it out. The guy taking the order wasn't the most friendliest person I have met. There was nobody else in line but he seemed like he had something else to do. Regardless, I needed to find out about this place, so I asked questions. If you have not been there, the difference between a burger and a little burger is that a little burger only has one patty. I am glad that I asked. Anyways, on to the important part the review. The burger was awesome!! It was juicy and delicious. I loved the variety of toppings you could get on it. It was great and one patty was more than enough. The fries were equally as awesome! I love fries that have the potato peel on them still. It was a great meal and well worth stopping for. The regular fry is big enough to split with two people...unless you really like fries. There were not a lot of people there, so it didn't take long to get my food. I can't really complain about the food, or the place, but I can't rave about it either. The burgers are decent, but you can do much better at pretty much any non chain burger around. Alfie's in Glen Ellyn comes to mind immediately. And putting cayenne pepper on fries does not make them Cajun. My biggest problem with this place is the price. Two regular burger, a small burger, a regular and small fry plus three drinks was 32 bucks for lunch! You can take your kids to Wendy's and feel just as satisfied for about half the price. So my family went to eat at the five guys in Bloomingdale today. When we went in we saw that it said the fries were made in peanut oil so we told our daughter she couldn't have the fries because she is allergic. Well she started crying, as any 7 year old would when you tell her she can't have fries. The cashier felt bad and said she would take care of our meal, which she did. We were very appreciative. So then we were eating our cheeseburgers and one of the employees walks in with an order of fries from Mcdonalds for our daughter. If that is not customer service I don't know what is. I just have to say, writing this review is making my tummy grumble for some more Five Guys right now. Before I get too pumped up to say anything bad about this place, let me clear up why I did not give it 5 stars. Really, these burgers are just like when you have that neighbor that makes super good burgers on his grill and even though you don't really like him, you will still come to his cook outs to eat his burgers, because they are that good. Nothing gormet or super different about them other then that they are cooked perfectly and are topped with your choice of fresh toppings (all free!). The bacon is crispy and the cheese is melty. Its just a good burger. The biggest (only?) complaint that I have is that its a little pricey for a good burger (but certainly not pricey enough to give me any sort of pause in my decision to come back). They give your a ridiculous amount of fries (so fresh!) and free peanuts while you are waiting! Seating is crowded, but it gives the right atmosphere for the type of place it is. The variety of available (free) fresh toppings makes a huge difference and makes it worth a try! I know I'll be going back. read more

I'm wavering between 3.5 and 4 stars so... 4 it is. We've come to the Bloomingdale location before and, as with previous visits, it's very clean, including in the restrooms, and the staff are very friendly. I suppose I shouldn't complain about the amount of food you get for the money - a regular order of fries could feed about 4 by itself - but I need to learn to order the single-patty burger because the two patty burger is too much for me. I can't say if the meat is great quality or not because I'm one of those people who drowns hamburgers in condiments - and yay for all condiments being free (except cheese, though I may be the only person who considers cheese to be a condiment). That said, for the condiment-lovers out there, the buns are a little weak and with all the good stuff on a burger, you'll wind up with, at a bare minimum, a fairly damp bun, or, like my husband, need to finish up with a fork and knife. Overall, though, tasty burgers. And the fries... I do love fresh-cut, skin-on, not-skinny fries and these ones are pretty delicious. I don't love the Cajun seasoning you can get on the fries but the plain ones are some of my favorites. Those of you with peanut allergies may want to rethink your visit as there are peanuts in shells for people to snack on in the store and, based on the amount of peanut oil used in the "decor", it would appear that is what they fry foods in, as well. This is a nice, clean outpost of a chain that's not bad at all if I feel like fast food, a couple times a year. The burgers don't look or taste mass produced. Thumbs up for that. The 'regular' is actually a double patty, if I remember correctly, which was a bit too much for me, the second time I got the 'little cheeseburger' which is more my pace. The first time they forgot my grilled onions AND bbq sauce, which I paid for, and didn't find out until I got home, so check your order here. Good place, good fast food. read more

Was greeted from the moment I walked in by a friendly person. Very nice young ladies run this place. I love going back just because the level of respect they treat me and all the other customers. The food takes a minute extra vs. a fast food burger place, but it's well worth the wait. Great burgers, great fries, and great service. I'll be going back probably at least twice a week. read more

I agree with many of the comments already made here. It's good, but a bit pricey. Bacon cheeseburger, large fries and large drink were $14 and change. The large fries are served in a cup about the size of a medium soft drink. They throw in another large scoop of fries in the bag on top of that. Will get the smaller size next time. Cajun fries were excellent--just the right bit of zing and the seasoning wasn't overly salty. You could tell they were fresh-cut. The burger was very good. It reminded me of an In 'N Out burger with better toppings. Not the best I've ever had, but I will definitely make this a regular stop. Service was quick and friendly and the restaurant was very clean. The kitchen area is fully visible from the dining area and I appreciate that you can clearly see what measures they take to keep things tidy. I don't get the Wendy's references--the food is here considerably better, though more expensive with a much smaller selection. Comparisons to Jimmy John's aren't wholly inaccurate, but it seems like that's to describe the general experience, which isn't a bad thing to me. This place cooks their burgers to perfection. It does not have the fancy burger toppings like the other places or the other appetizers, but the juiciest, thickest, tastiest burgers in your life. The fries are simple-just a bit of seasoning but it is perfect in my mind, as it does not overpower the fries. They also have touch screen soda machines that have endless drink selections and free peanuts, so you can take however many you want. And for offering this, it is very clean. It also is very easy to see and great parking in front. If you want a hot dog, chicken sandwich, or anything other than burger and fries, go to any other place but this is great for burgers. read more

Happened to be driving by and have never heard of this place before, but heck, I will try anything once. They have a simple menu, fries, burgers and hot dogs. The prices seem a bit steep but they have signs everywhere claiming how good the food is....anyhow, it took about 15 minutes to get 2 burgers and an order of fries. The fries for the large size to me, weren't worth $4.99, served in a 22-ounce sized styrofoam cup. The burgers appeared standard-sized but were very good and tasty. I love fresh-cut fries but didn't like the price of them. next time I will try the CAJUN fries. Yummy. The place was packed. I didn't like the employees attitudes, when I had questions about the burgers, like the hamburger has 2 patties ( essentially a double burger) and the "little" hamburger has one patty. Like I knew that! Geeeez, this WAS my first time here! Crappy service tt me, but I will give it antoher whirl next time I am in the area and see how it goes.
