I can count the number of times I've eaten at five guys in my life. Thankfully, every experience has always been great! While traveling from Orange Beach, I decided to stop at Five Guys, and I was so happy that I did. There was a line upon entry inside the restaurant, but the line moved relatively fast. There were two cooks in the kitchen area, who moved swift and efficiently. What I love most about Five Guys is that I could watch the chef prepare my meal, and I know that every order is prepared with those fresh cut fries. This meal was so refreshing and worth every minute that I waited. I ordered the Cheeseburger (all the way, all toppings) a small order of fries and a vanilla milk shake. Everything was great!

    It's burger time!

It's a chain and I have visited several locations over the years but this is my first time here. It might have something to do with the fact that they are a few feet away from Whataburger, and well I'm a big fan of Whataburger, sooooo. There's a Five Guys in virtually every state with 112 in FL and even 3 in Hawaii (Mahola) with the exception being Alaska :-( There's actually 1700+ locations worldwide so there's a lot of 'em. For a location near you: https://restaurants.fiveguys.com/ Why give this chain a try? They only use fresh ground beef, there are no freezers at Five Guys, just coolers and they only use peanut oil for their fries. Let's talk about those fries, they're cooked to order and their crisp and usually hot and overflowing amounts, good stuff. Why do some folks go crazy over these fries? The secret is Five Guys fries their potatoes in two stages. First, they dunk raw slices in oil to "pre-cook" the potatoes. Then they fry 'em again, creating a crispy outer layer around a soft, mashed inner goodness. The Cajun fries are legit too. The burgers are easily some of the better burgers, no matter where you live, with fresh hand pattied beef served hot and juicy. One of the secrets to those juicier burgers is that Five Guys workers are trained not to press down on the patties, which retains the juices, know you know that inside scoop. Make those burgers your own with with a any or all of the FREE condiments mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, jalapeños & green peppers, Bar-B-Que, A1 & hot sauces. They only their standard burgers, hot dogs and fries on the menu but you can ask for the infamous secret patty melt, it's a grilled cheese with a burger patty inside :-) The other big mention is their milkshakes, they are thick and creamy with a dozen flavors available including peanut butter, salted caramel, Oreo cookie & BACON :-) Love it!! Whether you're eating in the restaurant or taking your food home, they serve everything in paper bags, their thing. Now for the elephant in the room, I usually hear how it can he pricey, especially with a large family with no kids menu or combos. But their model is different from others chain while a hamburger and fries is more expensive than your typical fast food restaurant, but that's because you're getting twice as much food. Each burger, unless you request a smal, has two patties, adding up to a half pound of meat. And while each portion of fries is technically meant to be measured in cartons, the employees end up dumping massive amounts of fries into the bag to the point where even the smallest size is more than enough for two people to share! Finally, I like the Five Guys story as it was a Mom & Pop, Jerry and Janie Murrell, who started this business and the Five Guys refer to their five boys. That's the official story but there were just Jerry & his 4 boys when they opened their first place but soon after along came along a 5th son :-) From their humble beginnings in Arlington, VA in 1986 they've done a pretty good job of bringing their idea burgers and fries to the masses, nice story. Bottom line: There's lot to like about these juicy burgers and fries and this location is as good as any I've been to. Recommended

The food & service was good & another plus is that it is close to the beach! Their fries are yummy & they have gluten free options :)

He rattled off a bunch of options, but none of them sounded right. I found this place on Yelp, saw the reviews, and decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did. The menu is stripped down to the essentials: three burgers and three side options. Fries, onion rings, or frings. That's it. No giant menu trying to be everything to everyone. Just a team that has clearly decided to focus on doing a few things exceptionally well. The burger was outstanding. The smash patties had an incredible sear. The pickles were sliced paper thin. The lettuce was chopped instead of being a giant leaf hanging out of the bun. The sauce had a familiar Big Mac-style vibe but was clearly their own thing. Every ingredient was there for a reason. What really impressed me was the attention to detail. The temperature contrast between the hot burger and the cool toppings was perfect. The texture and layering of flavors were exactly what they should be. Somebody has spent a lot of time thinking about every component of this burger. The onion rings were hot and crispy. The fries were crispy, salty, and exactly what you want them to be. Nothing felt like an afterthought. The atmosphere fits the food. Simple, confident, and authentic. The staff had their own vibe, the place had personality, and nobody seemed interested in following trends for the sake of trends. They just make great burgers. I've already decided I'm coming back to work my way through the other two burgers on the menu. That's probably the highest compliment I can give a restaurant. If you appreciate craftsmanship and people who have truly studied their craft, this place is worth a visit.

On a recent boys day out I took a few of my Buds to check out this new addition for Arizona BBQ,…read moreyeah you read right, Arizona. Colt Grill BBQ & Spirits just opened in downtown Foley, AL, and I was curious to see how their smoked meats and Western vibe would fit in with our Southern scene. This place is a big deal for Foley, it's set up in the historic Foley Bakery building, a 100-year-old landmark that's been closed since 2007. The building, at the corner of North Alston Street and West Laurel Avenue, got a major facelift over the past year, and now it's home to this BBQ joint downstairs, with apartments and an office upstairs. Colt Grill started in Arizona, with four locations there, Prescott, Prescott Valley, Cottonwood, and Village of Oak Creek. Foley's their first venture outside Arizona, and they picked it because they loved the South's charm and Foley's small-town feel. Walking in, the place feels cozy yet upscale for a BBQ spot. The exposed brick walls and custom furniture, sourced from the owner's family of furniture builders, give it a warm, authentic vibe. Brenda Marie Clouston, the owner, has a background in interior design, and it shows. The setup is pretty unique for the area: you order at the counter, but there's a full-service bar where bartenders bring your food if you sit there. My buds and I grabbed a table, but the bar looked tempting with its lineup of bourbons and signature cocktails like the Foley Bushwacker and Colt Margarita but only one pal took advantage of the spirits. And they have happy hour :-) The menu's got all the BBQ classics, but it's not just ribs and brisket. They smoke nearly everything pork, chicken, turkey, even their mac-n-cheese over oak hardwoods. I went for the sampler platter to try a bit of everything that included baby back ribs with campfire sauce, pulled pork with Kansas City sauce, brisket, smoked turkey, and a turkey brat sausage. The meats were tender and packed with smoky flavor, and the variety of sauces let me mix it up. Classic sliced white bread was served with mine but we tried the jalapeño cornbread, which was a standout, spicy but not overwhelming. The guys got a brisket plate and a pulled pork sandwich. They liked it but I thought the brisket could have been a little moist and tender. Overall the food was good and I will return. Service was friendly, though it got a bit hectic during the lunch rush. The staff was hustling, and you could tell they're still finding their rhythm since opening in early this yesr. I liked that they give back to the community every "Cowboy Cookie" sold donates a portion to Secret Meals for Hungry Kids, a local charity. The atmosphere was lively and the Western decor made it feel like a little piece of Arizona in Alabama. Bottom line: Colt Grill's a great addition to Foley. It's not just another BBQ joint, it's got heart, history, and some seriously good food. My buds and I are already planning our next visit. If you're in the area, check it out and come hungry! I have a few faves like the cheesy mushrooms and the BBQ shrimp, and nowadaya you can't just look at the regular menu. You have to check out their daily specials board because they are constantly knocking it out of the park with creative new dishes and fresh catches. The atmosphere is just even more welcoming, but the outdoor seating is much improved with some sand and stage, perfect for enjoying the coastal breeze. They updated their operating hours too, so they are now open daily from 11 AM to 10 PM. Whether you want to escape the usual tourist trap seafood lines, watch a game on their big screens, or just grab a ice cold beer, or really strong drink, with friendly folks, this place just keeps getting better.
