The burger was great, but I definitely won't be back . The service was horrible, and the place is just nasty. We sat right at the bar, and there were only a couple of people in the place, but the bartender just kept ignoring us. It didn't seem intentional. I just think no one ever told her she's actually supposed to wait on the customers. Worse than the service was the cleanliness. The place is just a health hazard. People were smoking in the kitchen, not washing their hands, the walls of the kitchen covered in grease. I went to the bathroom, and one of the employees walked out of a stall and out the door without washing his hands. Hope it wasn't the cook. I went to wash my hands, and no paper towels. I can't believe the Health Department lets this place stay open. Anyway, the burger was good! Hope tomorrow I don't regret having ate it read more

First off, this is a hole in the wall dive bar. It's dark, smokey, old bar stools held together with duct tape and foam falling out. You can tell they're not much for tourists, but honestly don't blame them how some of the out-towners act. Just be respectful and not be obnoxious like some of the younger ones that showed up after we got there. We came for the burgers and bar food after seeing their name for being the best burgers around Orange Beach from many people on Facebook. The burger was pretty dang good. It was well done (I prefer medium-rare to medium) other than that it was exactly what I was expecting for a bar burger. The veggies on it were fresh and the fries awesome. My wife got the fried sampler platter, and everything on that was great. Mixed drinks are strong, and well worth the price. Overall, definitely a great dive bar as long as you can tolerate the high levels nicotine in the air (my boys could smell it in our vehicle the next day and we even drove with the windows down the night we left The Keg). this place works for me! Always "Friendly people" workers and customers. Keg burger w/cheese ROCKS but better be hungry or plan on two meals! I'm not a big f/fry person however sometimes I order Keg fries only as a snack or when I need something to eat like "right now" with my beer, which is always very cold. Only way I like beer! I recommend "The Keg Lounge" as my kick back and take a break bar. Plus Bartenders are very cool and make you feel comfortable being there, a gal by herself. We ate here tonight for the first time in a few years. They still have best hamburgers anywhere. I had the double cheeseburger with jalapeños and finished my mother's keg burger. The onion rings are also great. The bartender was also very nice and helpful. I'm surprised to see all the negative reviews and complaints about the service. Heard the burgers were exceptionally good, so went at noon...had the loaded cheeseburger & cheesy fries. Both were good, but not over the top great. Very dark atmosphere, but hey, it's a bar. My Son recommended that we go to The Keg for their amazing Cheeseburgers. I read some of the reviews and saw a lot of people complaining about the smoke or the owners/bartenders being rude. I felt I needed to write a review because my experience at The Keg was top-notch! I sat at the bar and had beers with some other very friendly patrons, who seemed to be locals. I did not get the overwhelming cigarette smoke smell that so many other reviewers have complained about. C. Anne was bartending; she is super fun, very attentive, and no-nonsense. My to go orders came out and all I had was an American Express, which they do not take. C. Anne, went full honor system on me and told me to go back to the hotel and call her with another card number. No one does that these days with people they don't know. I called her immediately when I got back to the hotel and she told me that some or one of the locals had paid my tab. I was shocked and so very appreciative!! The Cheeseburger I had and the Grilled Chicken Sandwich that my Wife had were nothing short of AWESOME!! I highly recommend that anyone who enjoys great Cheeseburgers like I do go to The Keg. However, a key takeaway here, after reading other reviews, is when you are from out of town, don't go somewhere, be rude, give attitude, act entitled, or be a dick. Just be cool! The Keg Lounge & Grill is apparently the oldest bar in Orange Beach that opened up back in 1980. This used to be the place to go to after Flora-Bama closed and they could stay open really late/very early. The Keg was to Gulf Shores as F&M's is to New Orleans. I had some great times during some early morning crazy times with fun bands playing here. Sadly they have changed their laws in Orange Beach so that they no longer let this great dive stay open late and I'm afraid that will have killed its main draw and left it a shadow of its former self. For a long while The Keg had become just a very smoky place that was very hard for non-smokers like me to tolerate with so much smoke in the air. Fortunately it seems they have finally stopped smoking inside and the air is once again breathable!!! There is a great back patio here and sometimes they have live music. They do have a pretty awesome huge burger here for a great price which is great during their happy hour. I would like to advocate we all bring forth the Party Party in Orange Beach to bring back late night bar hours or even better 24/7 bar hours like we have in NOLA to get The Keg back to its former glory. I would also advocate for Go Cups for our adult beverages as part of the Party Party Platform and since they already allow that at OWA and at The Wharf we are already well on our way! The radio constantly plays an ad with the proclamation "Best Burger on the Island" or "Best burger in Baldwin county" well allow me to disagree. There are so many burgers that are WAY better, so there's that. If you just want a burger and you're into "dive bars" then you might wanna consider this place, but if a dimly lit, smoke-filled, locals bar is your jam then you may be right at home, maybe. I assume that a late-night joint was one of their draws but Orange Beach changed the rules and they couldn't do that anymore, so there's a weird membership requirement. I did it because I wanted to try that "BEST" burger. After the let-down from the mediocre burger, at best, wasn't really worth the free membership, honestly I am at a loss of what is exactly the attraction. Yes, the onion rings were pretty good, the beer is cold, the shrimp boil looks good and there might be something redeeming here but I'll never know. Nope I'm not going to give this one another try. The service is sorely lacking, the attitude stinks, or is that the smoke, and I couldn't tell you if the place was clean or not because I couldn't see a thing. They also have "lounge" in their name, nope lounging does not come to mind, that's a seriously scary thought. One final note, they're not been the best late-night burger, that would be at The Cove in Gulf Shores, Bottom line: It's not a family-friendly environment, it's smoky, dated, a bit dinghy and it's not the best burger. This place has the absolute worst service. We only went because a friend invited us and I severely regret having to give that place my money. Bartenders are rude and only there to chat with their friends before helping anyone waiting. 10/10 do not recommend. One of, if not the, worst bars I have ever been to. Super uptight for no reason given the bar is an absolute dump. I mean I have been in sewers with better atmosphere. Owner doesn't care about anyone but his drinking buddies. Me and a group of 15 buddies showed up to drink for St. Paddy's day and they ended up snapping one of our ID's just because they claimed to "not have a scanner". After arguing with the management we wete repeatedly told to "get the fuck out of the bar". Just don't understand how you would willingly turn away hundreds of dollars because you wanted to keep your run down mud put bar a safehaven for your townie buds. read more

The bar tender looked us at walk in and look at the menu when he yelled at us "GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY BAR"- I was with my Mother and 5 other kids. The reviews stated it was a late night eatery. I wanted to call the police. I was shocked he spoke to a MOM with kids in such a horrible manner. He deserves to have his liquor license taken away with all the underaged drinkers in his bar. This is a dive bar with one of the best burgers I've ever had. I made my fiancé stop here after a dinner with family at a different local restaurant where I hated my meal, and wow. I just wanted something to put in my stomach that wasn't fast food, and I ended up eating the ENTIRE Keg burger (definitely a 1/2lb patty) with no ketchup. I don't know what they did to their magic meat and frankly I don't care. The bar had quirky people, quirky employees, and floors I wouldn't eat off of. The staff was very friendly, but in absolutely no hurry. If you want a chill place with cool people that would probably be a fun time, this is your go to place. If not, still try and get the burger some time when you aren't in a hurry because it's worth it. read more

There are all kinds of awards for this burger on the wall and of course you always wonder if it's deserved so I had to try one and it is deserved. Probably the best burger I've had in a veryg long time. It's thick,'juicy with a little char on the outside, slow cooked and delicious. In days past we referred to a spot like this as a Dive Bar. The general overview of a Dive Bar is typically a small, unglamorous, eclectic, old-style bar with reasonably priced drinks, a small menu with really good food, if food is served. Usually it is kinda dark with low lighting, old and well used furnishings, neon beer signs, pool table(s), Juke Box and maybe a shuffleboard table along with a local clientele. We sought them out because such an establishment has personality and I found the Keg overflowing with personality. If you want a cold beer and great burger some night (food service runs until 2am) you won't do better than The Keg. read more

We decided to get one of those "Best Burgers on the Beach" but were faced with the rudest bartender/server immediately upon entering. Ponytail was demanding our membership card and when we stated we didnt have one and had been there before just a few month ago she immediately cut us off throwing her fellow bartenders under the bus by stating she doesnt know why they do their job and require it. Telling us if ABC were to walk in it would be a $750 fine. So we fill out our membership card. Same story happening at the next table as a group of diners come in. Same story - rude as can be. We probably should have just left then but gave her the benefit of the doubt and ordered our drinks. We had been there just a few months ago in March and had great service and fantastic burgers. We liked the little local dive experience off the beaten path of vacationers. It was full of locals who all seemed to know one another. When we were ready for a second round we were asked if we were ready to order. We told her no we would chill for a bit ....Wellll....its shift change and if you want your food you better get your order in ...its only 7pm. As we sit there looking over the menu at the appetizers we hear the same conversations to to the other patrons. SHIFT CHANGE --- MEMBERSHIP . There are only about 12 people in there and none seem like locals. I guess they know better than to visit on Ponytails shift which I guess is Tuesday nights according to other reviews. When our drinks arrive I try to make conversation and ask about the best between the cheese sticks and mac and cheese balls - immediately cut off with "I serve them all" . So Mac & Cheese balls it was and they were quite tasty. BUT we were served the wrong beer and for some reason the Margarita tasted like it was full of pickle juice. Not salty - straight up pickle juice . The first one was great. When I mentioned it to her she again immediately cut me off and said she had been no where near pickle juice and took it away. She brought another drink and the correct beer and we ordered our burgers- SHIFT CHANGE . Unfortunately the drink was still like a dill pickle so something was obviously wrong . We started to eat our dinner and just not drink the pickle margarita. My husband decided to approach the bar to see if someone could figure out what was going on with the margaritas and it went all down hill from there. Ponytail got very defensive and a lone local at the pool table threatened us with a pool stick. Needless to say we took our burgers to go and won't be back. I will be contacting the Baldwin County survey that gives those awards and suggest they take service into consideration and let the public know a membership is required - otherwise you are not welcome. I would think a place like that can't survive on the locals alone. The next night of our vacation we chose one of the Best Burger runner ups and they were absolutely delicious and had fantastic drinks and service. Dark smoky ambiance with the usual ensemble of bar activities and a clear dynamic between the regulars and bar staff that makes you instantly feel like a local.
