Terrible! I hadn't been there in like 10 years and now I remember why! The cashier didn't explain how the menu worked (it had been so long that I forgot) so there was a lot of awkwardness. We had also told the cashier that the order was for here and she put it go, our fries were just thrown everywhere like we were animals.Then She got my order wrong, whatever it wasn't a big deal, but when I saw the burger it was the worst looking burger I've ever seen! Ugh, third time we ate there this past week and for the third time, confirmed that I shall NEVER step foot back in there again. First time, fries were okay, burger did not have bacon even though we ordered a bacon cheeseburger and apparently had to wait longer for the bacon, which we did NOT get in the end. Complained to manager, he didn't do much. Too many people hired to stand around. Second time, it was meh. In fact, so meh that I don't even remember it. Third time, which was last week, was terrible. I have been craving a burger and glad I stopped here. I was shopping in Riverpark and worked up an appetite. Walked in and was immediately greeted the cashier was super nice and asked if I had been here before. I said no and he explained the menu to me. I really appreciated that. I ordered the cheeseburger (2 patties). You have to wIt a little while because they cook to order. I was very happy with my burger. Taste was good and it was just right to fill me up. The burger was good and tasted fresh, although I would have to agree with what I've read about the buns not standing up to its fillings. If you don't attack it quick and all at once it melts down in your hand. I like natural cut fries so I was good with that, although it would be nice to have a smaller size so you don't waste so much. A small is easily enough for two. The price is really to high for what they are serving, I paid almost $14 for a burger, fries and drink. Nothing to complain about if you want a burger. We didn't know that the regular burgers came with 2 patties and as people who don't eat too much beef, it was a lot and I had to take a patty off and it still seemed like too much. I got a hamburger and a large order of fries for us all to share and no soda and it was about $14. A bit pricey but it filled us up. It's a fast and easy option if you're waiting for a movie, which we were. The large order of fries was huge. They do have a veggie option for sandwiches but I wish they had something for burgers. I am a far cry from a professional food critic. This is why I hope you will take my words for what they're worth--a regular guy talking about burgers. There are several things that I look for in a new eating experience. "Five Guys" scores high marks in certain areas, but lacks in a few key areas. First, the good. The menu is incredibly simple--a trademark for the success of places like In and Out, Chick-Fil-A, and any number of local mom & pop burger joints. The idea of building your own burger similar to how you would expect to build your own pizza, given a selection of toppings and sauces, is also pretty cool. Cajun style fries? Yes, please! I have mixed feelings about the duo-tone white/red look, as well as the huge stock of 50lb bags of french fries and corn oil, used as a partition between the sitting area and cashier line. Over all though, it has a very clean look, and I was most impressed that every empty table was cleaned to spotless perfection. Score. Another positive was being able to listen to Def Leppard, The Eagles, Genesis, and Styx--loudly--while I ate. There are ups and downs as for the food itself. The Cajun-style fries, first off, were pleasantly spicy. I appreciate that the heat built up over time, too. In the end, however, I feel like the seasoning was way over-done. I couldn't finish my regular-sized cup--not because it was too spicy--but because they were too damn seasoned. Think the Doghouse Grill squared. The burger was lean and heavy, but fell short in terms of intrinsic flavor. I ordered mine w/ all of the standard "black" menu items, sans mayo, ketchup, or mustard. I feel that a good burger can and should stand on its own without those added condiments. The canned mushrooms--you know, those brown, spongy, rubbery things that try to pass off as mushrooms--should not be advertised as "grilled mushrooms". Disappointing. I'd also appreciate if my grilled onions were sliced, not diced. The saving grace behind this burger was the generous amount of cheese wedged between the two lean ground beef patties. Ultimately, the problem that will keep me from returning to Five Guys is the value. $10.00 is simply too much to spend on a burger and fries. I don't see how a new, 2010 restaurant could even survive while charging 2006 prices. If I'm sporting 10 bucks for lunch, I should at least get a cold, tasty beverage. That's right kids--10 bucks and I didn't even get you anything to drink. Value is where Five Guys falls short. I'm not disappointed that I went there to give it a shot, but I think there price points are a bit high. read more

I come here way too often. Maybe because my work place is walking distance to this location. Anyways, they have delicious, simple burgers. Oh, and their Cajun fries are so good! I can see why everyone compares this place to in n out that is located across the street. Obviously they are both burger joints but five guys has an actual menu from things to choose from. Like toppings, burger sizes, etc. Don't get me wrong, in n out is also delicious. But there's something about five guys that just keeps me coming back. I could not enjoy myself in the restaurant at all - it was way too loud. The patrons and waitresses moving the steel chairs around bang and clank so loudly that it's like a screeching chalkboard to my ears. The air conditioner was very loud and it was very cold (make sure to take a sweater, even in the summer). When we got our food, me and my wife agreed it was too loud, so we went and found peace and quiet at the red benches outside. The fries were a bit on the cold side. My wife got the hamburger and I got the veggie sandwich. Her burger patty fell apart before she could even enjoy it and the veggies in my sandwich were not sauteed - the veggies were uncooked. I love that they allow their employees to show tattoos. I will give a solid three star rating to any business on that alone. The food is simply...meh. I came here once before when they first opened and now I'm reminded why i never came back....why are they using the dining area as a stock room? I don't get the appeal here...maybe I'm just missing something. Also the sound of those uncomfortable metal chairs scraping damn near gave me a migraine. The burger was so big, I dislocated my jaw. I'm not kidding. I opened my mouth to try to get my teeth around the ginormous thing, and my jaw popped out of place. Hurt like hell. That said, it was a tasty burger. Messy and better than your average fast food burger, but not spectacular. Flavor-wise, I'm Team In-n-Out. The natural cut fries are definitely delicious. I am a huge fry freak, and I was pretty pleased. The prices are a little steep for the whole burger and fries type of experience... especially for the atmosphere, with their crowded, fast food style decor and uncomfortable chairs. OK, Five Guys is good but here are my reasons for a 3 star. First of all, I am native Californian so naturally overall, I love In-n-Out better hands down. The overall taste is better to me at In-n-Out. Also, I only tried 2 things on the menu (little cheeseburger with BBQ sauce, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, jalapenos, tomatoes, and pickles, and fries). I want to try the cajun style fries and the hot dogs before I up the rating. What I did really like about this place was unlike In-n-Out, you can add what you want to your burger and there are a few more options on the menu. I love the free peanuts and the cute (and in-n-out-like, i admit) decor. but MAINLY, i love the burger. i got the little cheeseburger (which basically comes with 1 patty instead of the regular 2) with everything except mayo and mustard and added BBQ sauce instead. Ok..first, I have to admit it...I am a big in-n-out burger fan. Now, that being said, I really like 5 Guys. The burgers are really really good with more of a selection of toppings like bacon, jalapeños and BBQ sauce to name a few. As for the fries, I hate to say it but 5 guys has better fries. You can also get them cajun style which I really liked. I recommend a large order ONLY if you plan on sharing. If you make a habit of eating a large fries by yourself, you will undoubtedly be wearing XXXXL sweatshirts and underwear before long. 5 guys also offers hot dogs if you are in that mood. Good customer service. The 4 guys and.one girl was very friendly. Me and my 3 bros went to try them out just for the heck of it. All of us loved it. Loved the fries, the free peanuts, and especially the burger. We find it comparable to in n out burgers but with a extra explosion in the mouth. The decor is similar to in n out burger too...kinda odd seeing all bags of potato(?) Everywhere. Overall, loved it. Overall it is a good experience. The burger is juicy and tasty and everything is made to order. One order of fries is enough for 3-4 people. One problem is the menu is not straight forward, they should tell you that a "regular burger" is a double burger. It is a tad expensive, but the place has a homemade taste and feel to it. Peanuts are everywhere and are no charge. The AC system is usually on full power and the music is loud but not offensive. This joint makes me laugh, good burgers and fries, high powered AC system and music, what more do you want ?? lol If a "3.5" rating was available I would choose that. This was a wise choice for me to eat before boarding a plane! I first had Five Guys in Washington D.C., and when I heard that one opened up in Fresno I knew I would eventually check it out (I live in Visalia). So, on my way to the airport I took my mom out to lunch. It was my first time in this shopping center, so we took a lot of wrong turns before we found the place. You have to drive to the back where the parking structure is (by the movie theater) to see it. There was no line when we go there so we were able to make our order quickly. I was at first bummed because I thought they didn't have any free peanuts for guests, but they were by the windows and not by the cashier lines like in D.C. I tried the cajun fries, but don't think I'll be getting them again. I enjoy spice, but this one had a flavor that isn't quite my taste. Truth is, yes the burgers are juicy but I could hardly taste the bacon and frankly, I can make a better burger at home with ground chuck and a frying pan. Even though this place is a little pricey. It's still better than any other fast food option out there. The difference you pay compared to other places is well worth it. The only place even close is In & Out and it still doesn't really compare. If you compare value for money spent it's actually about the same between the two. You pay more at Five Guys and get a bigger and much better burger. You pay a few dollars less at In & Out And get a thin dry burger w/ mediocre fries. 2 things I don't love: First, their french fries. Thick, uncrispy french fries are just not my thing. I appreciate that's how some people like them, but... not my thing. Secondly. I really love mushrooms. I have never met a mushroom I didn't like... Well, until I had them at Five Guys. I have no idea what they do to make them so foul but... yuck. Just... yuck. In fact, I'm deducting a star just because of the terribleness of those mushrooms. *shudders* I agree wholeheartedly that the burger tastes very similar to a Wendy's burger.
