We were thrilled to find two seats at the end of the bar when we arrived. As luck would have it, the two gentlemen next to us eventually left, allowing us to slide over and enjoy an even better view of the TV for the rest of the game. I started with a Tito's and club soda, but unfortunately, something seemed off--perhaps the club soda was flat. The drink just wasn't good. To their credit, the bartender took it back without hesitation and was very accommodating. I then ordered a Negroni after the woman sitting next to us highly recommended it. I don't usually drink gin, but this cocktail was absolutely delicious and changed my mind. Since we were there for several hours, we shared an order of zucchini and eggplant chips and happily snacked on them throughout the game. The atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming, with a nice mix of ages and people enjoying the evening. We made sure to leave our bartender a generous tip since we occupied our seats for the entire game. Even though the Knicks didn't pull out a win that night, we certainly didn't leave defeated. I'd happily return for another game, cocktail, and fun evening out. And maybe even get dinner there. Little did I know there was another big room in the ack once you past the restrooms. They were having a thriving business there!

He took the time to listen to our concerns and invited our group back so we could give their group another chance. While I still stand by how our initial experience made us feel, I also think it's important to acknowledge when a business owner responds with professionalism and genuinely works to rebuild trust. Our return visit was a completely different experience. I appreciate the way the owner handled the situation and his willingness to have an open conversation with us. It doesn't change what happened that first night, but it did change my impression of how much he cares about his guests and his business. I wanted my review to reflect that as well.

Two-part, proper settle, tight dome, no rushing it. That's rarer than it should be in Midtown where half the bars treat a stout like a lager. Whoever's behind the bar here has been trained or grew up around it. Food's better than a second-floor pub between 5th and 6th has any right to be. The JRB burger comes on a house-ground patty (they grind in-house, and you can tell, loose texture, actual seasoning), caramelized onions cooked down all the way, not just softened, good cheese pull. Fried pickles on the side had a crisp cornmeal shell and stayed crunchy under the burger juices, which never happens. Buttermilk chicken salad was the surprise. Chicken actually brined, crust stayed on, greens weren't an afterthought. Only real knock: music was loud. Not sports-bar loud, more like the bartender's playlist got away from him. Fine at the bar, harder at a table if you want to talk. Room's got real bones. Reclaimed barn wood, old rail track as a foot rest, that big 45-star flag on the wall. Been here almost 20 years and it's aged into itself. For the neighborhood the pricing's fair. Beats P.J. Clarke's on the burger, loses on quiet. Go for a beer and a burger, not a date.

If you have nut allergies, you might actually be killed just by walking into this place and getting a whiff. Pretty much everything here is fried or cooked with peanut oil, and it's absolutely delicious. The burgers are simply incredible, albeit on the greasier side. I usually get a double bacon burger with cheese, and then an order of small fries. I always stick with small fries, because Five Guys restaurants everywhere put in the small fries into the paper bag, and then take another giant scoop of fries and pours it into the bag. Basically, small fries become large, and large fries become heart disease. I have been to this location a few times, and the food always tastes just as good and greasy as it does at other Five Guys locations. The wait here at the 42nd Street location is usually slightly longer than the average 10 min or so wait at other Five Guys locations. Also, due to the proximity to Times Square and the major touristy Midtown areas, this location is ALWAYS packed. The assembly line moves pretty fast, but like I said, the food takes some time to cook because of the sheer amount of people. Also, there are technically a good number of seats available, but it's hard to find a spot because there are just so many people. Also, it isn't great for groups, since they try to maximize seating options by making less tables and more counter style seats. The only major qualm I have about Five Guys restaurants in general, and a lot of these other gourmet burger places (like Shake Shack) is that there aren't any combo meals. You need to buy everything separately, making the total meal pricier than the average burger at your run-of-the-mill American restaurant. Oh, and on a side note, I absolutely love their high tech soda machines: the ones that spit out like a hundred different types of soda. It's one of the greatest things ever to grace the food industry, and I'm a huge fan. read more

The lines during lunch are extremely lengthy. The wait is difficult because the place smells awful. The food is obviously not the best quality and honestly leaving our bags of potatoes for "decor" cannot be healthy because they are the French fries cooked later on. The biggest issue with the place is the smell directly outside at all times. I walk by for work so I know. I'd like shocked if they were violating city codes because it is just unbearable and the amount of dirty water and other liquids is just appalling. read more

We were supposed to find a Shake Shack since it was called the best burgers on east coast. But our lunch time was too early and all the shake shacks were not open yet. So we come back to where we started and found this place. To my surprised, the burger here was very good. We were also supposed to go to west coast for in n out, but right after we go back to our country, five guys surpass in n out for best American burgers. To be honest I have never had their burgers but I stopped in for some fries. The fries are ok, not out of this world but just ok. However, the price is crazy. They overcharge for what it seems a small cup of fries, an overcooked cup of fries! You come out of there carrying with you the strong smell of grease.
