How many guys does it take to make a massively delicious cheeseburger? Apparently five. I read that the Five Guys name comes from a father and his four sons. Apparently he home schooled these kids in the art of burgercraft because these burgers are OMGWTFAwesome! After my most recent visit to Five Guys, I am seriously so impressed with their hamburgers that I am vowing to never eat a fast food hamburger again. In celebration of this declaration I'm making a top five list of the reasons why I love Five Guys Burgers and Fries! 1. The toppings. I seriously believe that the toppings is what makes Five Guys so money. The onions are grilled, the Mt. Olive pickles are thick and crisp, the lettuce is fresh and hand shredded, there are always two plump tomato slices on every burger, plus you can add jalapenos, mushrooms, and green peppers if it pleases you. 2. The condiments. Dave Thomas, founder of Wendy's, believed that the key to a good hamburger was an ample amount of sauce on each burger. And me and five other guys are obviously in agreement. You can choose from seven different condiments and rest assured that whether you get one or all seven your burger is going to be a sloppy good time! 3. The burger. Gotta love the burger itself. You get two hand formed fresh ground beef patties grilled to perfection. The burger is always juicy and full of meaty wonderment. 4. The bun. The bun is specially made for Five Guys by a specific bakery and precise recipe that contains egg and sugar which makes the buns doughy and sweet. 5. The french fries. The fries are hand cut daily, fried to order in peanut oil, and sprinkled with salt or cajun seasoning. And when you get an order of fries at Five Guys, you're going to get way more potato action than Mr. Potato Head got before he married Mrs. Potato Head. I'm talking a ridiculously obscene amount of fries. In the end, this is the absolute best burger chain in the country. So this place is supposedly the "In N Out" outside of California. And yes, it was fresh tasting, and one of the cleanest fast food places I've ever been. But I just don't love it. I actually don't love In N Out either (blasphemy!) I do like how you get to customize your burger, the quick service, and the HUGE portion of fries. There are free peanuts if that still isn't enough foods. Some location have the soda syrups, so you can customize your fountain drinks, but this place just has regular sodas. read more

After all of the hype about their french fries, I was disappointed. Maybe it was a fluke but they were not crisp at all. I do not like burgers so I did not try one. Instead I had the kosher all-beef hot dog with cheese. It was alright, but not excellent. Because I am allergic to pork, I always get excited when I can order a hot dog at a restaurant. Ok so this was the first 5 guys I had managed to get to after hearing such amazing things about it. I mean don't get me wrong it's a great burger... but I must be missing the magic. I love that the people are nice enough to explain things to you and answer any questions you have and are very patient with you. I never once felt condescended. They have an ample drink selection and even peanuts to keep you occupied while you wait for your fresh food. It's kinda nice. Don't know how it fits, but it's nice. I also like that they tell you where their potatoes are from for the fries. The Cajun fries do have a little kick to them but their ok. I'm not a spicy type person really. But the food was made to order the way i liked it and it was extremely good! Loud music so I don't recommend it if you actually want to have a conversation. I've made this joke before and I will make it again, Five guys is standard burger food done well but not well done. They have only a few options but the real trick is to realize: 1 burger = 2 burgers. (If you only want one burger patty you need to order the "little burger") Also 1 regular fries = 2 people This particular establishment has never been busy when I've stopped in, but maybe thats just me. They were quick even with only a few guys working which was a nice change from Crestview. The 5 star experience for me is the boardwalk style fries... they are simply the best in the area. They are done right, they are salty, they are hot and when you get a big ole tub of ketchup to go with... best fries in cincy... Not a healthy thing on the menu... not that you should expect healthy when you are walking into a restaurant toting burgers and fries. It would just be nice if one choice was low fat or something. I love Five Guys because they make the burgers that I wish I could grill at home. But I am grill-less living in an apartment, so that's just not going happen. The staff at this location (like most others) is awesome. Everyone is enthusiastic. If you've never visited before, though, you'll feel the pressure at the register to rattle off your order as quickly as possible. All you've got to know is what kind of burger you want and then rattle off the toppings. It usually sounds ridiculous when I order with how many toppings I want, but that's totally normal. Go big or go home. Note: The "Little" burgers are usually plenty for me as they're just one patty. The regular burgers have two patties, so prepare yourself if you're going big. Five Guys is a great option when looking for a quick burger from a chain. The first thing I've noticed about this chain is that it has been clean. When offering free peanuts that people sometimes like to leave on the floor, the keep the place very clean. Also, they offer free peanuts while you wait. The customer service has been friendly and helpful each time. The front man seems excited that he works there and is making sure your experience at Five Guys is the best you've ever had. Maybe if I come enough he'll let me yell "Two Patties!!!" when I order. The food takes about 5-10 minutes to get ready. The burgers are grilled when you order so the food is fresh. If you're really hungry, you can nibble on the peanuts, but don't ruin your appetite. You can get the fries now in three different sizes. The little is about a serving and a half, a regular is good for 2-3 people, and the large is good for a thanksgiving feast. When I get my burger, I add in quite a few toppings since they are all FREE. The only problem with my over indulgence in the toppings is it makes the burger a little messy, so make sure you grab a couple extra napkins. The burgers themselves are great, hot, and fresh. Make sure to stretch a little when you get the regular since it is two patties and a whole lot of toppings. Did I mention the toppings are free? If you are trying to be healthy, they'll do a lettuce wrap instead of a bun, but I doubt that is going to make it any less bad for you. Eat the burger, eat the fries, and ignore how many calories you just tucked in. read more

Because I'm still finding my way around Yelp, this review is about the 5 Guys in Crestview Hills, KY but I'm guessing they are all the same. Burgers are great, fries are great but I cannot tolerate 5 minutes in that place! Wish they had drive thru option because it is loud and obnoxious in there. The yelling of orders has ZERO charm, the overhead florescent lighting is awful and I'm convinced the whole thing is meant to get you out the door quick! However, again, the food is very good. I've been to the Five Guys in Rookwood a few times, and have not written a review until now to give it a fair rating. Five Guys is in a very convenient location, and is a good option if you are looking for a more inexpensive meal than J. Alexanders or PF Changs. $5 for a burger is a steal, and they are big burgers. You also get a TON (literal measurement) of fries, even in the small order. My fiance and I got 2 cheeseburgers and shared a small fry for around $14. As far as the burgers go, they are decent. Not the best I've ever had. I honestly prefer Johnny Rockets burgers to a Five Guys. They are nothing to write home about. As for the fries, I feel like the cajun fries are overly spiced and the regular fries are tasteless and bland. It also takes a very long time to get your food. There were 2 other couples in the restaurant, and it still took a good 15 minutes to get our food. All in all, Five Guys is a good option for a cheaper (somewhat) quick meal. read more

I have discovered a newfound love for this place. When I used to live in Seattle, WA I dreaded going to five guys because I'd always end up with a less than superior burger. Since moving to Cincinnati I have come to the realization that the trick is to dine like a simpleton. Don't fall victim to all the options on the menu for the free add-ons. The Seattle me would have said yes to mushrooms, onions, jalapeños and the whole shibang....and walked out thinking...well that was a disappointment...The new me goes single patty standard ketchup and mayo with lettuce and WALAA...the burger is delish and I can actually get through most of the fries. This Five Guys is so inconsistent. In the past month, I've come three times but each time is a different, yet terrible experience. This may be my last time coming here. Today's visit I decided to get a lettuce burger, I've gotten it multiple times btw so I knew what to expect. The sandwich did not meet my expectations at all. For a no bun, lettuce burger, they failed. It was sloppy because they did not use enough lettuce. I chose not to complain to the staff on the floor but decided to put my comment here. Yahoo! A five guys in my neck of the woods. The national chain has come to Norwood and Mason. I'd been dying to go here ever since it opened, and i wanted to see if it was worthy of all the praise it has gotten from burger fanatics everywhere... Though Kelly L. mentioned it was loud and obnoxious, it was perfectly peaceful when i went. But, then again, I went on a weekday. Despite me being the only one in the restaurant, it took them forever to make the burger. Three guys behind the counter took fifteen minutes to make a sandwich on an empty day. But I did enjoy the complimentary peanuts. The cook brought over the brown bag stained with grease which contained my critically acclaimed burger and fries. The verdict? Very good, maybe it doesn't live up to ALL the hype, but well cooked with good toppings and great fries (get the cayenne pepper seasoning). Though the burger does collapse in your hands... the toppings and patty are a little too big for the bun. Anyway, cool place. What makes the burger is your ability to load it up with lettuce, tomato, pickles, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms and--this is important--fresh jalapenos at no extra charge. If you're a lettuce-and-ketchup kind of burger eater you'll probably feel ripped off and bitter. And unless you really know what you're doing, you hold the mustard, friendo, because that's a strong flavor to be adding all willy nilly to an already-complicated burger. Theory 2: Your experience at Five Guys depends on your ability to eat a tall, topping laden burger without losing half the toppings out the back side and getting mayonnaise halfway up your nose. I know, it's not easy. I have a small mouth too. But if you resist the urge to unwrap the whole thing at once, and instead gingerly peel back the foil as you work your way down, you can eat the standard double-patty Five Guys burger with only a slight amount of embarrassment. It is with these theories--along with the acknowledgement that some people don't care for malt vinegar with their fries--that help me cope with the fact that some people just don't think Five Guys is all that great. read more

When I heard that Five Guys was coming to Cincinnati I got really excited. Like your typical American, I am a huge burger fan. Anytime a best burger convo comes up someone will bring up Five Guys. So I had to try it out. Their menu is pretty basic. Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers and fries are the main options, but you can also get a hot dog, grilled cheese or veggie sandwich. You can also get free peanuts while you are waiting for your food. That is it. This is fine with me, stick to what you are good at. Some places can go overboard with their menus which can be overwhelming for a customer. The decor is a combination of old school burger joint and fast food restaurant. Red and white everywhere. Like the menu, its also basic, but its not offensive to the eyes. One complaint I do have is every time I go there the place is messy. Part of this is there are often kids there who tend to be messy, another part is its always busy, but I also think 5 Guys not putting your food on trays and just giving your food in a bag contributes to this as well. I am sure there are reasons why they don't use trays, but to control some of the mess I think they should consider it. Alright, now on to the question that you are here for: Does 5 Guys hamburgers live up to the hype? No. Sure they are good, but after everything I heard I expected this cheeseburger to be life changing. I would not go out of my way to get Five Guys, especially since Rookwood Commons has one of the worst parking lots in the city. It is better than a typical fast food or restaurant chain burger. However there are better burger options in Cincinnati. Just off the top of my head Terry's, Zip's and Arthur's are far superior. The fries are decent, hand cut fries that are fried in peanut oil, if you have had Penn Station's fries they are almost identical to theirs. They are a bit too salty in my opinion, and I'm someone that tends to put too much salt on my fries to begin with. Unless you are eating with a large group, I would recommend just getting the regular size, as they tend to give you tons of them, which I approve of. Would I go to Five Guys again? Sure, if I am out somewhere and am in mood for a burger and see a Five Guys I would go there. However if I am at home and think I could go really go for a burger tonight, I would go somewhere else. read more
