Their bacon-wrapped hot dog and signature piñabero sauce were unforgettable. The meat was tender, juicy, and absolutely delicious. Fast forward to a few years later: I was hosting another baby shower at a venue in Huntington Beach. Even though they didn't have a license to operate in the city--and their pricing was higher--I still really wanted them. I even offered to cover the cost of the business license so they could cater my event. But the day of the event was a total letdown. The staff arrived late and started cooking in foil trays, which immediately raised questions from my guests. I kept trying to hype them up, saying "just wait, this is the best I've ever had!"--but when the food came out, it was disappointing. We were getting mixed feed back, but most people said it was "not that good" so that was disappointing. I was a little upset since I really take care of my hardscape, as a matter of fact I just had it cleaned the day before, and as a monthly service. Well here's where the the deal went bad. I contacted the owner and let him know what had happened. He did offer to come out and have his guys apply some degreased to the areas, I actually declined and was going to do it myself. Well I was unable to get it out. So I texted the owner what the situation is now. No call back. Texted again, still no call back. Well I'm not one to chase someone around for something like this. I just never use the business again. In which is where I'm at right now. It's all about how you take care of the customer after he fact, because people make mistakes. Mr. hot buns flaked out and canceled at the last minute no doubt to pick up a better deal someplace else. Mr. hot buns is unreliable and trustworthy and a sham. He made up some story about injuring his foot. However his peers who shall remain nameless confirmed that he got a better deal someplace else. Very unprofessional very untrustworthy. Up until the day of our wedding, my husband & I were impressed with Christian's reviews on Yelp, his prompt communication, and the food we had at our taste test. Our German Feast consisted of 3 types of sausages, beer-buttered onions, hoagie rolls, German potato salad, blaukraut, and appetizers for cocktail hour. He went above & beyond to get us great sausages & his cooking is great! For our large wedding, he informed us he'd have a second grill & an assistant to speed up the process when cooking our food so guests won't be waiting long to get their food with our buffet-style dinner. We were glad Chris was going to make sure that didn't happen & it was one less thing we had to worry about. Unfortunately, we were let down on our special day. We needed Chris to be at our venue at 3:30pm to set up appetizers for cocktail hour at 4pm. He notifies our coordinator less than an hour before he's scheduled to arrive that his car battery died & is trying to get a battery. Mind you, our venue is in Pala & he was STILL in Santa Ana. He promises to arrive by 4-4:30pm. This gave us relief that he'd still be able to supply appetizers for at least half of the cocktail hour & guests wouldn't starve by the time dinner started. We had our grand entrance at 5:00pm, first dance, speeches & toasts, and scheduled to begin dinner at 5:30pm. Until Chris finally arrived at 6:00pm, guests were sitting around waiting to begin eating. How uncomfortable for our guests to sit around without anything going on, but more embarrassing for us trying to smile like everything was ok! Chris arrives with appetizers meant for our cocktail hour & BEGINS to cook dinner by himself with one grill. This slowed down the process of getting the food cooked quickly causing our guests to continue to wait. Weren't we trying to avoid this? Thankfully appetizers were served but were soon devoured from guests waiting so long. My mother asked him where the second grill & assistant were & he said "They are at other events..." He completely disregards the care for us not to worry about making our guests wait for their dinner. We counted on him to make these arrangements & he didn't come through for us. Our coordinator informed us why arrived later than 4:30pm as promised was because he passed our venue & couldn't find it-our coordinator had to redirect him to our venue. Around 6:30pm he had some sausages cooked already so my husband & I were finally able to get our meal. Everything looked great & we were starving, as with all of our guests. We got sausages & beer-buttered onions, asked Chris to save us some food so we can enjoy the great food after the wedding & started walking away...until we noticed he only had hoagie rolls, beer-buttered onions, and sausages. We confronted Chris about the side dishes-no potato salad or blaukraut. Our wonderful German Feast turned into just sausages on buns with onions. So disappointing! He explained to us that they discovered that morning that the blaukraut went "rancid" overnight because they left it out & forgot to put it in the fridge & the potato salad fell out of his trunk while getting jumper cables for his dead battery. We understand that things come up, but if Chris notified us of what happened with the food when it happened, we would've had a few hours to make arrangements to go to a store & buy other side dishes to make up for the food loss. But what bothered us the most is that he didn't bring any of this up until we asked. If we didn't ask, would he have still notified us? I can't say for sure. He was in contact with our coordinator & not once did he express the issues regarding our food or let us know that it would just be him cooking for over 120 people. If you say you are able to do events by yourself for large parties, it should have been executed without any hitches, but it resulted in multiple hitches. Lack in communication makes or breaks who you are & what you represent. As a result, we were refunded a measly $130, which doesn't suffice for: being extremely late (3 hours), causing everyone to wait to begin eating, showing up & not initiating communication regarding the food, stressing out on our wedding day to make sure there will be enough food for our guests, feeling embarrassed that dinner didn't go smoothly, specifically asking to save US food yet giving it to other people and leaving us with none, and not being able to get that moment back from our wedding. It's very unfortunate to have this happen at our wedding, but unfortunate to happen at any event. As I conclude this review, here's what I'd recommend: Make sure you have reliable transportation, know exactly where you are going for your event-if you don't, give yourself enough time JUST IN CASE-it's better to be early than late, and just communicate! Just had Mr. Hot Bunz' catering at our work place. One word: BOMBASTIC It's not your average burger and hot-dog catering. He actually had bomb brioche bread and the quality of the meats was amazing.
